Sunday Catholic Mass May 9th 2021 with Fr. Dave

[Music] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you hello everybody thank you so much for saying i'm going to be someone who keeps the lord's day holy and if you're a mom out there happy mother's day to you if your country doesn't celebrate mother's day well happy blessings to you and your mom especially if you are a mom now jesus is a hundred percent god and a hundred percent human and so he knows what it is to love a mom he knows what it is to be loved by a mom in fact he's so generous he gives us as he's dying one of the last things that he does his own mom right when he says to saint john behold your mother woman behold your son and i often think that's what a great passage to know so many people dismiss that there's a lot of wisdom in that we're not going to hear about today in that gospel but you know as you were leaving on a trip you would make sure that the people who were left in your house to care for your kids or your dog or your cat would have the right instructions and so jesus is real important to him before he dies to give us his mom and to give his and to give his mom to us right and so he knows what it is to love a mom to be loved by a mom we ask our lady to pray for us as we come to worship her son at this mass let's do so rightly by calling to mind our sins i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and what i have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life lord have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king oh god almighty father lord jesus christ only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone of the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray grant almighty god that we may celebrate with heartfelt devotion these days of joy which we keep in honor of the risen lord and that what we relive in remembrance we may always hold to in what we do through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever and ever a reading from the acts of the apostles when peter entered cornelius met him and falling at his feet paid him homage peter however raised him up saying get up i myself am also a human being then peter proceeded to speak and said in truth i see that god shows no partiality rather in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him while peter was still speaking these things the holy spirit fell upon all who were listening to the word the circumcised believers who had accompanied peter were astounded that the gift of the holy spirit should have been poured out on the gentiles also for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying god then peter responded can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the holy spirit even as we have he ordered them to be baptized in the name of jesus christ the word of the lord thanks be to god the lord has revealed to the nations his saving power lord has received his saving power sing to the lord a new song for he has done wondrous deeds his right hand has won victory for him his holy arm the lord has revealed to the nations his saving power the lord has made his salvation known in the sight of the nations he has revealed his justice he has remembered his kindness and his faithfulness toward the house of israel the lord has revealed to the nations his saving power all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation by our god sing joyfully to the lord all you lands break into song sing praise the lord has revealed to the nations his saving power a reading from the first letter of saint john beloved let us love one another because love is of god everyone who loves is begotten by god and knows god whoever is without love does not know god for god is love in this way the love of god was revealed to us god sent his only son into the world so that we might have life through him in this is love not that we have loved god but that he loved us and sent his son as expiation for our sins the word of the lord thanks be to god alleluia whoever loves me will keep my word says the lord and my father will love him and we will come to him alleluia alleluia the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to john jesus said this said to his disciples as the father loves me so i also love you remain in my love if you keep my commandments you will remain in my love just as i have kept my father's commandments and remain in his love i have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete this is my commandment love one another as i love you no one has greater love than this to lay down one's life for one's friends you are my friends if you do what i command you i no longer call you slaves because a slave does not know what his master is doing i have called you friends because i have told you everything i heard have heard from my father it was not you who chose me but i who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain so that whatever you ask the father in my name he may give you this i command you love one another the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ okay we're gonna do a little of um kind of a name that refrain it's a game that we like to play for those who haven't done in a while it's gonna happen i'm gonna point to you and you're gonna say the refrain of a song but in this case unfortunately the refrain starts the song so i have to tell it to you and then when i point to you you're going to say it's one of those songs where every verse ends with the refrain sometimes they write songs that way so we're gonna do that alright so try your best maybe you know this maybe you don't shouldn't be too hard because i have to give you the answer okay so what is the refrain you've got a friend in me so when i point to you you are going to say that you could sing it if you want you've got a friend of me or you could just kind of mumble it maybe think it in your head all right let's try it you've got a friend in me when the road looks rough ahead and you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed you just remember what your old pal said boy you got troubles i got them too there isn't anything i wouldn't do for you we stick together we see it through cuz some other folks might be a little bit smarter than i am bigger and stronger too maybe but none of them will ever love you the way i do it's me and you boy and as the years go by a friendship will never die you're gonna see it's our destiny cause you got a friend in me you got a friend in me there's one more good job out there if you did it if you didn't boo you got a friend to me from what randy newman i think saying that from the movie of course toy story you got a friend in me and is that true of jesus i know this is mother's day right in the in america right here we're celebrating mother's day i'm not here to preach about mothers i'm here to talk about jesus of course but certainly moms love us and moms want us to have good friends right and want us to be good friends do we have a friend in jesus well yeah all right well what does that song say i want to say i have a friend in jesus well what does it say um is jesus with us if we're miles from home yeah he's with us wherever we go if you got troubles i got him too is are our troubles and concerns jesus's concerns yeah right i mean we sinned and he comes to forgive us right he comes to save humanity right you got troubles i got him too jesus does say that to us we stick together does he ever abandon us no right he says i will never abandon you ever right wherever you are whatever you're going through he's always going to be with you why well you got a friend in him our other folks may not look like he does but none of them will ever love you the way he does right if i could turn that camera right now and show you the crucifix right as he told us in the gospel right no one has greater love than this to give one's life for one's friends right he does that he literally pours out he washes he gave that teaching at the last supper right after he washed his friend's feet the apostles feed he washes their feet he gives them his body and blood they don't understand what he's doing and then he's going to pour it out on the cross right friends are people who show up and are willing to well willing to put it all on the line for us that's what jesus does right now he says as the years go by our friendship will never die you're going to see it's our destiny does jesus's love for you ever stop no right are you his destiny yeah he loves you to infinity and beyond we could say right you've got a friend in jesus does he have a friend in you that's a different question right you've got a friend in him but does he have a friend in you but we look at moms briefly and they'll be a blessing again for moms after matt at the end of the mass a bunch of thank yous and we were blessing uh for the mom so hang in there or click down below and jump to it but moms want us to have good friends right one of the biggest concerns for a mom when her kid goes to a new school is what are they going to make friends are they you know and will their friends be the smelly kid the weird kid or their friend would be the bad kid will they will their kid be the bad kid the smelly kid the weird kid your moms want their kids to have a good peer group and that's needed for our psychological development all that stuff moms want their children to be good friends and to ha and to have good friends they want good friends for their kids what is mary's last spoken words in the bible some of you know that answer right mary says do whatever he tells you talking about jesus do whatever he tells you does mary want good friends for her son yeah she wants good friends for jesus she wants you to be his friend and her last words are do whatever he tells you which is interesting because jesus in the gospel today he says what he says you are my friends if you do what i command you now first they're saying the same thing jesus says you know you're my friend if you do what i command you and mary says do whatever he tells you right they're saying the same thing now that seems kind of crazy because like um you know as humans when we make friends it's like you know it's like well i'll be your friend if you do everything i you know everything i tell you it's like what uh no thanks i'm not looking for an abusive relationship or slavery or anything like that right we don't work like that with each other right friends respect each other's freedoms and give suggestions and advice and sometimes they have to give commands to their friends or you know get up get out of bed do this thing or whatever stop drinking right but like jesus says you're my friends if you do everything i command you and of course the devil wants to be like yeah see see until we start to think about the relationship between jesus to us is one of a superior to an inferior right to a huge inferior right the distance between right uh you and an ant or plankton is is so much closer than the distance between god and us outside of the incarnation when he becomes human and so if you think of a relationship that is one of a greater to a lesser maybe we can start to understand what he means a little bit more right so of course i'm going to go with the relationship of a dog to us right and all the cat people are like right oh my god people gov let you cat people hang in there right you have an escape escape clause somewhere else all right so does your dog love you i would call the dog man's best friend right because when he's in somebody said so my deacon told me this he says you know father dave if you put your wife and your dog in in the trunk of your car and drive around for an hour and open it up which one is going to be happy to see you i don't know i'm not married i've never put my dog in my trunk right she sits in the pad she sits in the back seat but uh i imagine it's the dog right or you know when you come home from work who's always happy to see you right it's not always your spouse it's always generally hopefully it is but always your dog a dog is man's best friend well how does a dog become your best friend it has to do what you command it right see because a dog left to itself like when you just get a puppy does that puppy when you meet a puppy does that puppy even want to meet you maybe it's curious and you smell like a strange thing that puppy does not want to go home with you at all right that puppy wants to be star part of its pack part of the other puppies in whatever puppy world they're doing puppy stuff right it doesn't want to leave its mom it doesn't want to leave its siblings it's a pack animal more you know more than cats cats a little more i mean cats are semi pack animals and semi-independent but you know i know there'll be some cat people but my cat people are clicking they're logging off but that little puppy does not want to come home with you any one of us who've ever adopted a dog when you bring it home it's crying it's crying it's crying and what will and what does that little dog do like that dog is full of of it wants the teeth it wants like it wants to chew and bite and pee and and you know crap where wants to and run around and and it has no understanding or respect for the stuff in your house wants to chew your table and rip up the carpet and tear down the toilet paper and and go crazy right and if if you don't teach that dog how to live in your world well then no one's going to visit you right with grandma comes over right your little like 90 pound grandma god bless your grandma's out there happy mother's day to all the grandmas out there right if your 90 pound grandma comes over and you haven't trained your dog that dog's gonna jump on grandma and knock her down maybe she'll break her hip right and grandma's gonna say oh she's okay she's gonna talk about you when she leaves and be like i'm not going over there because they have a crazy dog right that dog is full of all kinds of stuff and appetites and it's a mess and a dog that's not trained and doesn't listen to any commands that dog can't go anywhere and very few people are going to want to come see you but if you start to teach your dog through commands and rewards and punishments and you start to put a discipline on your dog what will happen well suddenly that dog is going to know that all of its desires for food and drink and play and rest and going to the bathroom and running around and chasing squirrels and getting belly rubs like all of those needs will be met and it also gets to sleep on your bed for those of you who have their dog on their bed i do because it's just me just being directory so craggly sleeps in my bed unless we went hunting uh and she's full of ticks or she's like really she went in the slop and you know she'd love to go in the water so then she sleeps on her bed next to my bed because that's nasty but a dog that listens to human commands and learns how to be in our world can be in our world and that dog can go anywhere right that dog mike cragley is in you know what you guys maybe some of you know of course our prisoners know my dog's in my office right she comes with me wherever i go right she's in the office with me she's great when sometimes when we go and visit the ccd kids when we could have ccd here and all that she would come and visit them she would go to the nursing home some of you guys remember this who are watching i just started being able to go back to one of the nursing homes i'd bring cragly there right she comes on communion calls with me sometimes families even want her to come to funerals because they're dog people and so cragley has done a bunch of funerals when she comes and people pet her and love her and she's there with us right sometimes you see her wandering in the background my dog comes almost everywhere not everywhere but almost everywhere with me how can she do that well she's incredibly well behaved and she learned her commands if you think of a seeing eye dog right that seeing eye dog is they're so amazing or dogs at the marine tablet think of a seeing eye dog when they get them i have friends here at the parish who raise seeing eye puppies and they're just like regular puppies and they're sniffing barking chewing biting peeing pooping crazy zooming like wild little dogs although they've kind of bred out their chase instinct for most of them but but what happens those poor people and great people who take them into their homes for a year train them and then a seeing eye dog can walk on the floor of congress i've never walked on the floor of congress have you but a dog can be trained through listening to the commands of its superior of its master and then be invited into our whole life and we'll love them so much i mean you know we would do anything for our dogs and then your dog of course will do anything for you right i remember when um cragley would perceive like i was camping one time up in the adirondacks with my brother uh and this guy was approaching our fire and we were having we were playing some guitar enjoying some wine together singing some songs that we wrote and um this guy was uh downwind of us and he was walking towards us and the fire he was from australia and cragley couldn't smell him because the wind was blowing the other way and she just sees this silhouette and this little puppy she was just a puppy i think it was might be our first year or second year this little puppy got between my brother myself and this guy coming to us and she was like this like little cute puppy she put herself between us and this guy to protect us we were walking around here and we saw a fox the other night and like craggy sees this fox and she's her mohawk is up in there her and she got this big rumble in her belly now or her chest and she was gonna tear that fox up she's willing to put herself on the line to protect me and we would do that for our dogs too why do i bring this up again is because if we don't discipline a dog and reward it and love it and care for it well then that dog can't mesh with our life and this is what of course jesus is doing with us he's trying to form us to be the kind of people that can come and live into his live in his house in heaven to come into heaven saint augustine writes if we don't train for the next life now we will not be able to enter it jesus talks about that everybody thinks it's so easy to get to heaven oh everybody goes to heaven that's not what jesus says everybody doesn't go to heaven the blessed mother in her different apparitions is saying the same thing jesus what does he say narrow is the road that leads to life and few find it wide is the road that leads to perdition it leads to hell and it's gentle it's easy and everybody's taking that road that highway everyone's walking that right that should make us pause be like whoa am i on the right path the narrow path the hard path that leads to life well what is that path jesus tells us that's the path of his commandments of walking as his disciple of becoming a friend to jesus he's never going to leave us he's going to be our friend he wants us to be his which means keeping his commandments doing what he tells us because in the keeping of the commandments he's forming us again to be the kind of people that can live with him in heaven and start to spread his life here now right just briefly if we go down the commandments real quick right and you think of friendships do friends honor their friends names yeah you don't say your friend's name in vain especially not gods you love when you hear someone telling a story a good story about your friend and if someone's talking bad about your friend well they're gonna have to mess with you now because you defend your friend right french friends don't put don't let things get in the way of their friendship right we don't have idols and things like that in our relationship with god we put god first our friends actively think about their friends are your friends birthdays important to you and special days of their life their anniversaries well yeah and so with god there are certain days that are special to him so they're special to us you think about your friends do you love your friends family do you care and respect and honor your friend's family your friends you'll say your best friend's mom and dad well yeah you care for them because your friend cares for them right the people that your friend loves you honor too because your friend loves them you want to see them do okay you ask about them you care about them you honor them we honor of course our father and mothers and we honor our mothers hopefully all the time but especially on certainly on mother's day um right do you lie to your friends never you know what the book of revelation says the book of revelation says no liar will enter heaven and the devil's the prince of lies right that means even little white lies you don't lie to your friends ever right friend's like you know do these jeans make me look fat what do you say no it's all the cake it's your butt no right friends tell each other the truth if you can't say the truth then you don't say anything oh come on father david yes did jesus ever lie to anybody did jesus have hard conversations with people all right jesus right he did not approve of herod's relationship where herod was living with someone that he shouldn't have been living with or jesus tells the woman caught in adultery go and sin no more right jesus says ye of little faith and then he also praises people right he says to the centaurian you know to the woman whose uh daughter is the serial phoenician woman whose daughter is sick he says a woman great is your faith he praises the faith of centaurian right who says i'm not worthy to have you enter under my roof or say those words at this mass right jesus speaks truth to people he's not worried about offending them he knows as a friend they need to hear the truth so friends don't lie do friends steal from each other no we don't steal from god he doesn't steal from us he gives to us right he tells us the truth which is just back on that a little bit which of course the culture doesn't do that jesus says the devil's the prince of the world right uh friends don't commit adultery friends don't let their friends come in adultery friends call their friends to purity jesus says pray you'd be pure of heart if you're not pure of heart you can't even see god that's crazy different than the world that's out there that will use sex and impurity to sell all kinds of things and say oh it's okay if people live together before marriage that's not what jesus says are you his friend there do you think in heaven anyone's looking at your butt no right they're saying oh that butt makes you look fat no they're walking in purity they see god that starts now do you think um in heaven anyone wants anyone is jealous of the stuff that you have your place in the father's house or the relationships that you have no friends aren't jealous of their friends right even in this world like if your friend gets a promotion at work your friend gets an award your friend gets an achievement they do something great you are so happy for your friend you want to see them honored you want to see them honored even more like when they shine that doesn't take any light from you you share in that light do you seek to see jesus praised so many people say oh i go to i don't get a lot out of church you know what the purpose of coming to church is to glorify god we don't come here for us we come here for him and if you are jesus's friend are you seeking that he gets more glory that he gets more praise than other that he's lifted up in your conversation do you take his name in vain right in your car do you tell other people about him and what he's done for you do you hold them up do you like when other people hold them up you roll your eyes and rather click on something else and switch to something else right jesus is forming us with our appetites and impulses to have self-mastery so we can be in the house of our master and part of that is being able to put down our life for him right to recognize the things that we would want to do well hold on lord what do you want me to do no love is greater than this to lay one's life down for one's friends moms teach us that in different ways jesus is teaching us that but your life this week and mine be one of a friend to jesus by what you say and what you do i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen let's raise our prayers to almighty god nope i gotta do that again because i look down too fast let's raise our prayers to almighty god for the church may she through the grace of the holy spirit continue to grow in holiness and fortitude let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for public servants may christ's commandment of love be their daily guide and source of strength let us pray to the lord hear our prayer for all who feel lost or alone may the lord provide a community of faith to come alongside them as witnesses of his love let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all who recently joined the church may the new life they experience in christ continue to bring them joy throughout this easter season let us pray to the lord hear our prayer for our beloved dead may their joy be complete as they behold god's face in heaven and sing praise with the angels and saints forever let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the end to coronavirus let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer and now for those petitions we hold in the silence of our hearts let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we pray especially for those suffering from the coronavirus in india uh and up in canada for them and for the nations around them that they may help them we may help them we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we pray also for especially a special way for moms on this sunday for our mothers who have given us life and love that we may show them reverence and love we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for mothers who have lost a child through death or miscarriage that their faith may give them hope and their family and friends support and console them we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for mothers who have died that god may bring them into the joy of his kingdom we pray to the lord lord hear our prayer almighty father turn toward us and hear the prayers we ask as your people on your day for we ask them in faith through christ our lord amen [Music] so [Music] okay [Music] humanity [Music] [Music] equity [Music] [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours and be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church may our prayers rise up to you o lord together with the sacrificial offerings so that purified by your graciousness we may be conformed to the mysteries of your mighty love through christ our lord amen the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation at all times to acclaim you o lord but in this time above all to lodge you yet more gloriously when christ our passover has been sacrificed for the old order destroyed a universe cast down is renewed and integrity of life is restored to us in christ therefore overcome with paschal joy every land every people exults in your praise and even the heavenly powers with the angelic host sing together the unending hymn of your glory as they acclaim [Music] holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are holy indeed you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith we proclaim your death o lord and profess your resurrection until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and ministered to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and david our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse the blessed apostles saint martha saint elizabeth and seton and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever amen [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope in the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not in our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always let's offer each other the sign of peace lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed [Music] foreign [Music] uh [Music] uh [Music] uh [Music] my mhm let us pray almighty ever living god who restore us to eternal life and the resurrection of christ increase in us we pray the fruits of this pastoral sacrament and pour into our hearts the strength of this saving food through christ our lord so this is my body given for you is of course what jesus says it's what husbands and wives say to each other in their act of love and the sacrament of marriage is my body given for you is of course what soldiers say for their country at times and it's what every mom says right in giving birth and loving and all the different ways that moms sacrifice right grandmas will say this is this is my body of recipes and cookies and you know mysterious 20 bills coming out of a purse you know and loving their grandkids right this is the body of what i have for you and godmothers say this is my body of faith given to you when they help you know their parents raise their kids in their faith right and of course moms do that so a blessing upon all moms out there if you're a new mom an expectant mom um if you're a godmother or a grandmother this blessing is for you the lord be with you ladies bow your heads and pray for god's blessing loving god as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children so you watch over your church bless these women that they may be strengthened as christian mothers let the example of their faith and love shine forth grant that we their sons and daughters may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect grant us through christ our lord amen happy mother's day so moms also uh teach us lots of stuff and you know they teach you about the animals when you're growing up and you know we have different kinds of bears in the world certainly up in alaska you have well you have the black bear you have the grizzly bear you have the polar bear and you also have the koala now maybe pan and zita and some of our regular viewers down in australia can tell us why the koala doesn't it doesn't count as in the same category as all those other bears do you know it doesn't have the right and headed back east john's originally from jersey it was their 34th wedding anniversary last sunday and they've been watching us for a year and so they came out here uh to pray with us and say martha so it was really great to see you guys god bless you guys uh in your 34th year going forward now hope you enjoyed that pork leg of cheese and and i know a lot of people write us letters and they say they hope to come and visit we hope you come to visit too they got to get their picture taken with diane and jess and we're like wow they're really short they are pretty short but they're tall in stature and great folks um and some folks were asking uh so the wrap that i was hoping to get out didn't come out last week because unfortunately uh cragley heard her back uh on monday she had to go to the vet the emergency vet she's gonna be okay she's on some pain medicine and has to have like rest for a couple weeks she hurt her back running in the backyard and so we only get one day off as a priest and i was hoping to get that out on a monday but i spent time with my girl at the animal hospital praying for all those all those poor animals and the people who love them i mean that's a it's a good it's a hopeful place and it's a sad place when you're at an animal hospital you see how you know although we're not physically mothers and and fathers to our pets we love them we love them you know that shares in the love that a mom has for her kids we consider them part of our family so i prayed for all those people and craig is doing she's doing great she's getting fed a lot because that's how i love her because i learned that from my mom who loves me through food and jesus of course loves us through food too we'll see you guys next week thanks so much for keeping sunday holy the some folks uh in wildwood and in philadelphia wildwood new jersey dear father dave i wanted to reach out to you and thank you for your youtube masses i am from philadelphia my parents anna and mike mcnamara excuse me are 83 and 85 years old hello and particularly anna happy mother's day to you may god bless you they live in wildwood new jersey throughout the pandemic i've been emailing them a link to the mass each week your masses provide so much joy for my mom and dad seeing and hearing your mass each week really lifted them up i want to say thank you thank you thank you please keep my parents in prayer god bless you guys and thank you marilyn or mary ellen i'm sorry mary ellen for writing us god bless your parents out there in philadelphia hopefully they're having some good cheese steaks and i think you can get a new jersey pork or leg and cheese i think you can pork roll out in philadelphia but it has to be from jersey uh and then also a special thank you i have to i do want to share this this has given me so much joy so this is from um folks in canada etobicoke if i'm saying that right in canada so every summer i go to well i didn't go last year i'm hoping i get to go this year so for the month of august uh what i do is i volunteer up in alaska as a priest in the diocese of juneau they just combine it it's now juno anchorage i remember early on i mean i've always thought about being a priest in alaska i'll tell you the whole story another time but um i always thought like you know those guys they they probably never get any time off and they only had in the diocese of juneau nine priests that cover a territory the size of florida or france if you think about size wise i was like you know i bet they need a day off and so what if i took my vacation and you get four weeks of vacation as a priest i said what if i volunteered it to go up there and give a guy some time off or help out at a place where they needed some help so i go up every august i didn't go last year because of covid i'm hoping i can go this year um i haven't heard from the well i started the conversation with the diocese right now that diocese is not saying to the guys from the lower 48 to come up because right we could be bringing the coronavirus so we got to figure out how all that goes uh but i love it i work as a priest in uh the same little town that i love skagway there's like 17 catholics and if they're watching i love you guys and we have a great time i pray and i hike i miss my dog i don't bring craggy it's like takes me like 17 hours total traveling with like layovers and travel to the airport and all that to get up there so that'd be way too hard on her way too hard on me so i don't bring her friend's watcher but i love it so so i got this card in the mail it says dear father dave i sent you this picture twice by email i'm not sure you got it i didn't get it i'm getting it now um so here here it is renee and i were the readers that day at mass i pointed him out to you when you asked for a reader so what this is is really cool this is a picture of what i'm gonna i call it my little church but it's not my church really uh i mean it's christ church so this is saint teresa's church in skagway alaska and there's crazy father david in the middle and then we have uh i think it's loretta and her husband renee and so she's writing me this and sending me this picture uh and so what happens is on mass well we're in the missions right so we don't have regular readers that we know we don't have like if you come on a cruise ship and you decide to go to church which is awesome you get like you're showing yourself to be a friend of jesus if you do that right because you value his day and you're on a cruise ship and you're like well we're still going to take jesus with us on vacation and like you will grow more in your spiritual life if you bring god with you on vacation than if you try to take a vacation from god hands down right so people come off the cruise ship or they're on a tour through alaska and then they come to church man your relationship jesus is just going to grow so they show up at mass and you just sit there and you and it's kind of funny as a pastor because like well who's going to do the readings who's going to take up the collection who's going to serve right well you are right so if you see me in skagway and i see you i'll be like hey you're doing the first reading so that's so i i definitely i must have done that that week and i said hey i need a reader and so this woman god bless you loretta she points to her husband like take him so i did and i chose her as well so uh she writes um unbeknownst to him i and she indicated him and i picked him and i picked her for the second reading however i was happy i was able to do it we watched their mass every week and are grateful uh you rock you guys rock and so happy that we could share mass again even by way of this who knew that back in august uh 11th of 2019 i must have just arrived because i usually go up around the 6th um we'd be praying like this but thank you thank you for your prayers god bless you guys and your family and keep you safe up there in canada i see the candidate numbers are starting to come down a little bit and that's a good thing but it's still pretty bad up there in india so we're praying for you guys um and
