Sunday Catholic Mass for November 12 2023 with Father Dave

in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit the Lord be with you hello everybody thank you for saying yes I'm going to keep Sunday holy and does keeping Sunday holy help you get ready for when Jesus comes back at the end of time yes yes it does and to hear more about that you're going to have to hang in there for the gospel for the times that we haven't prepared for Christ for the times that we haven't done the good that he calls us to for the times that we've chosen to sin the times that we haven't fostered a relationship with God let's ask him for his Mercy I confess to almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what I have done and what I have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most Grievous fault therefore I ask blessed Mary ever virgin all the angels and Saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord Our God May almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us everlasting life Lord have mercy Christ have mercy Lord have mercy glory to God in the highest and on Earth peace to people of Good Will We Praise You we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory Lord God Heavenly King oh God Almighty father Lord Jesus Christ only begotten son Lord God Lamb of God Son of the father you take away Away The Sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the Holy One you alone are the Lord you alone are the most high Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father amen let us pray Almighty and merciful god graciously keep from us all adversity so that unhindered in mind and body alike we we may pursue in Freedom of heart the things that are yours through our Lord Jesus Christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God forever and ever a reading from the book of wisdom resplendant and unfading is wisdom and she is readily perceived by those who love her and found by those who seek her she hastens to make herself known in anticipation of their desire whoever watches for her at dawn shall not be disappointed for he shall find her sitting by his gate for taking thought of wisdom is the Perfection of prudence and whoever for her sake keeps vigil shall quickly be free from care because she makes her own rounds seeking those worthy of her and graciously appears to them in the ways and meets them with all solicitude the word of the Lord thanks be to God my soul is thirsting for you oh Lord my God my soul is is thirsting for you oh Lord my God oh God you are my God whom I seek for you my flesh Pines and my soul thirsts like the Earth parched lifeless and without water my soul is thirsting for you oh Lord my God thus have i gaze toward you in the sanctuary to see your power and your glory for your kindness is a greater good than life my lips shall glorify you my soul is thirsting for you oh Lord my my God thus will I bless you while I live lifting up my hands I will call upon your name as with the riches of a banquet shall my soul be satisfied and with exalted lips my mouth shall praise you my soul is thirsting for you oh Lord my God I will remember you upon my couch and through the night watches I will meditate on you you are my help and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy my soul is thirsting for you oh Lord my God a reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians we do not want you to be unaware brothers and sisters about those who have fallen asleep so that you may not grieve like the rest who have no hope for if we believe that Jesus died and Rose so too will God through Jesus bring with him those who have fallen asleep indeed we tell you this on the word of the Lord that we who are alive who are left until the coming of the Lord will surely not proed those who have fallen asleep for the Lord himself with a word of command with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God will come down from heaven and the dead in Christ will rise first then we who are alive who are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air thus we shall always be with the Lord therefore consult Soul one another with these words the word of the Lord thanks be to God in what day your Lord will come Allelujah Allelujah the Lord be with you a reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew glory to you oh Lord Jesus told his disciples this Parable the kingdom of heaven will be like 10 virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom five of them were foolish and five were wise the foolish ones when taking their lamps brought no oil with them but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps since the bridegroom was long delayed they all became drowsy and fell asleep at midnight there was a cry behold the bridegroom come out to meet him then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps the foolish ones said to the wise give us some of your oil for our lamps are going out the wise ones replied no for there may not be enough for us and for you go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves while they went off to buy it the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding Feast with him then the door was locked afterwards the other virgins came and said Lord Lord open the door for us but he said in reply amen I say to you I do not know you therefore stay awake for you do not know neither the day nor the hour the gospel of the Lord praise to you Lord Jesus Christ okay so today we have Jesus's Parables telling us we don't know when God is going to come back at the end of time with these wise and prudent virgins and then the foolish ones and we're hearing about the three things necessary to get to heaven that you need to do within your life the three things that need to be accomplished in your life for you to get to heaven right what are they and Diana is back everybody we're happy to are you happy to have Dian back everybody like Gina did a great job last week but everyone's happy to have are you glad to be back say it like you mean it Jess is back too thank you Jess so what do you need to accomplish in your life to get to heaven right you know maybe some answers from religious ed or your CCD or or you know times you in Catholics will come to mind on being in the state of grace and things you need a peanut butter jelly sliced banana sandwich that's it peanut butter jelly sliced banana you ever have peanut butter jelly sliced banana sandwich and sliced banana no Jess has only had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich not sliced banana I've never had the banana Diane never had the banana today Jesus wants you to see it's important to have the banana like if you just have peanut butter and jelly what do you have you got bread peanut butter and jelly and of course you're missing the banana and if you think of the bread is the beginning of your life and the end of your life you need to have these other three ingredients in there and it's not enough if you just have the peanut butter it's not enough if you just have the jelly and someone's out there is like but father Dave I'm allergic to peanut butter Go With It peanut butter jelly like maybe cream cheese for you for people who are allergic to peanut butter cream cheese jelly sliced banana I don't know if that would be as good I think I'd get heartburn on that but Jess would like it but I wouldn't like it cream cheese and jelly is good but we're going with peanut butter jelly sliced banana So within your life and the bread symbolizes if you think of like a piece of bread like your Tombstone right the beginning to the end of your life you need to have these three things to get to heaven based on today's Gospel peanut butter jelly sliced banana all right so what is the peanut butter so the peanut butter is well you need to not be in mortal sin right the peanut butter is not sinning right so the in the Bible today the story is told of these virgins right so you know you have a wedding and like in Jesus time you have the bride and who accompanies the bride you have the groom and the Grooms men who accompanies the bride the brides the bride's Maids the words the word maid comes from maid and which means virgin so for Jews and for Christians Catholics even today we're supposed to be we're supposed to maintain virginity until you get married is there do you have sex before marriage no supposed to no you're not supposed to everybody does sadly today it's wrong right you shouldn't be living together having sex before marriage you need to be a virgin unless you're married that's what Jews teach that's what Catholics teach that's what Christians teach that's what Jesus teaches that is still the case today right I was never married I've sinned a lot in my life never had sex was vir when I became a priest right certainly dated some women who wanted to do some things didn't do those things I certainly want to do some things nope because I knew this is what Jesus teaches he it's it's virginity until marriage the Bible says young man marries a virgin so that's these that's what's talking about here with these 10 virgins who want to go out to meet the bridegroom are they're friends of the bridegroom and the bride they're the Bridesmaids when you see when you go to church and you have a wedding and you see the bride and she's got all of her friends supposed to be virgins and so that's the peanut butter is that these women they did not sin like and they didn't do mortal sin let's say that right because sex before marriage could be mortal sin probably is that's how the church would teach about it there's some other conditions but all right so that so they didn't do that is that enough to get to heaven just having peanut butter Diane's is wise to it she knows I'm GNA ask her because it's easier to hear her you it's probably easier for you guys to hear than it is yes it is not enough not to have done wrong and yet this is what so many people say in the culture where they say I'm good person I don't hurt anybody uh not hurting someone does not actually make you a good person right just not hurting someone and you know people who sin sexually before marriage you're stealing someone else's husband or wife that's not yours your souls aren't joined that's part of why that's sinful you're saying with your body that you're all that you belong to this person and yet you don't because they belong to God and so do you if you're baptized otherwise why are you watching this if you're not baptized why are you watching this Mass right like maybe God's calling you to be baptized right but that's how we think about things all right so there's that so you don't get to heaven simply because you didn't hurt anybody what else do you need to do well you need the jelly what is the jelly just like I ain't gon to answer when someone does something kind for you is that a sweet thing yes Jesus says you know like you have to have action in your life you need to have good works right you don't earn your way to heaven with good works but Jesus will talk about it he says let your light shine that people may praise your he like let your good deeds shine before others Jesus will say that they may see your good deeds and praise your heavenly father right who they can't see right like you need to have charity Jesus says love God we talked about last week or a couple weeks ago with the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups you need to love God and love your neighbor you need to actually like do good things not because you're trying to earn your way into heaven because if you just have jelly is that enough yes or no say no no you can't just have the jelly right like heaven is not just hey everybody who's done good things get to come to Heaven because you could do good things and be doing bad things too right it's not simply the jelly you need to not do sin that's why Jesus's first words ever in the scripture are repent turn away from sin his first words repent right and so all right so these women these the wise virgins well all the virgins here they didn't sin but then five of them have oil and the oil the way this gospel has been preached since Matthew since Matthew wrote it down is that the oil represents good works and people will say well shouldn't they have shared like why you know if we're following Jesus shouldn't we share sharing is a good thing and the oil represents something that you cannot give to someone else right so when Diane Volunteers in the church and she's a a critical volunteer here and makes so many things happen she can't give her volunteering to her husband right when you you know like spend a half an hour when you say like you're going to sign up to teach CCD let's say in your Parish wherever you are out there right so you spend a half hour reading the lesson and then the 15 minutes that drive to church the hour that you're teaching the kids and the 15 minutes home right is that a lot of time that's not a lot of time you may be pretty darn busy but what Jesus is saying is when you and I are put your faith into action and you do kindness for others that's like the jelly that's going to give you oil that's not a lot of oil but that's oil and that is what your faith needs right like if you think of your faith as that fire that needs oil to keep burning and you got to put it into action and some people may like we have a pizza program here at the parish where twice a month we get pizzas from the local pizza parlor and we give them out to the people who are hungry the people in need and they get real Pizza they don't get Pathmark pizza or food store Pizza they get real pizza from a pizza parlor and some people all they do they volunteer they show up and they just sit at the table and they hand people the pizza and that that's not a that's not a hard thing to do here's a pizza every K's favorite day of the month twice a month right and they give pizzas out if we have extra we give it to the Y group here that meets at the parish right and it's other people they don't have the time for that but what do they do they write a check to help pay for the pizzas that were giv out to people for free and they just have to call and say I want a pizza right that's not a lot of oil but that's an oil and Jesus's words are here is hey some have oil and some don't do you have acts of Charity Jesus says you can't love a God you don't see if you fail to love the person you do see so not sinning turning away from sin that's the peanut butter that's the stickiness you got to stick to like living the right way and then the jelly is you got to do loving actions for other people right where's that and what's the banana that these ladies don't have what's the banana well as the parable goes on the door is locked and what do the the the other virgins come and they what do they say they say Lord Lord open the door for us and what does Jesus say to them amen I say to you I do not know you now he'll say this earlier also he'll say not everybody who says to ml Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven right and you could have a situation where people they don't kill anybody and they do a lot of good things but they don't have a relationship with Jesus sorry he's going to say I don't know you there are three things at play and Jesus gives us this Parable and those three things are right the banana is a relationship a banana has to grow it's a living thing you must have a relationship ship with Jesus this is what propels missionaries to go out into the world it's not like Jesus says everybody who goes to heaven simply because you have jelly because you've done good things sorry you could be doing bad things too all right so you don't do bad things and you do good things is that enough no Jesus says you got to have faith you have a relationship with him and what he calls these versions out is he says I do not know you these are the three things we have to have to have that sandwich and that's why I use that sandwich analogy so that you would remember it between the tombstone stones of your life in a sense between birth and death you need to well not do harmful things you need to do good things and you need to grow in that relationship with Jesus you can grow certainly you hopefully you're growing by coming to mass you grow in the sacraments you grow when you talk to him and say hey Jesus give me patience my wife is being unreasonable Jesus give me patience my husband's being stubborn Jesus give me patience father Dave's preaching longer than we thought he would on the weeked mass right but it's these three things because there's Jesus is the only way to heaven right anybody who gets to Heaven they're only getting there through him through him with him and in him so if you've neglected that banana Now's the Time to make an appeal I don't know like to grow in that relationship with Jesus and like as Catholics sometimes we hear Protestants at times our Brothers and Sisters in Christ and they they make a big deal about the banana oh it's all about having relationship with Jesus but they think that if you have a relationship with Jesus that you can sin or you don't have to do good things no no no no it's not just the banana you need more than just a relationship with Jesus and you don't and and they'll say Catholics you believe you can earn your way to heaven no no no it's not just a jelly and no no no it's not just you have a relationship with Jesus and you're doing good for others but you can do whatever the heck you want even Grievous sins and kill people and kill your children and and all that no sorry can't do it you got to have these three things you got to turn away from sin you got to turn towards God and turn towards other people peanut butter jelly sliced banana sandwich I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from true God begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord The Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic church I confess one baptism for the Forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen a reading from the book book of the Prophet Amos thus says the Lord the god of hosts woe to the complacent in Zion lying upon beds of ivory stretch comfortably on their couches they eat lambs taken from the flock and calves from the stall improvising to the music of the harp like David they devise their own accompaniment they drink wine from bowls and anoint themselves with the with the best oils yet they are not made ill by the collapse of Joseph therefore now they shall be the first to go into Exile and their want on rry shall be done away with the word of the Lord thanks be to God let's raise our prayers to almighty God for the church May the Holy Spirit call forth holy and wise pastoral leaders for all Catholic communities let us pray to the Lord Lord Lord here our pray for National and Civic leaders may they receive the grace and blessing of our almighty God in performing their duties let us pray to the Lord Lord Lord our pray for the chronically ill May the healing strength of the Lord carry them through whatever obstacles and difficulties they encounter let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for all within our Community of Faith who are married or about to be married let us pray to the Lord Lord Lord here our prayer for all who have died May our merciful Lord soon welcome them into the Eternal banquet let us pray to the Lord Lord Lord here our prayer for peace in the world let us pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer for the end to Corona virus let us pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer for vocations to the Catholic Church let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray and now for those petitions we hold in the Silence of our hearts let when the peanut got to Heaven follow me follow me no thanks for getting me out of my shell thank you everybody for keeping your faith and and making that relationship with Jesus grow and putting into practice uh and for praying with us here uh thanks for praying for everybody whose intentions you see especially thanks uh personally for praying for my brother Tim he needs it he's really suffering right now as you guys know everyone who's going through these kind of things are uh prayers for you guys and if you did have to watch a commercial on the way in thanks for helping YouTube spread the
