Sunday Catholic Mass for May 12 2024 with Father Dave + Mother's Day blessing

in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit the Lord be with you hello everybody thank you for saying yes I'm going to keep Sunday holy and a special blessing uh at the end of mass for all the moms out there if you're a mom or Grandmom a godmother a great grandmother God bless you and happy Mother's Day here in the United States but that extends to all of you around the world uh if you're a mom or to your mom and if your mom has passed away pray for her and ask her to pray for you and that's what we do at the beginning of mass let's ask the Saints to pray for us we come back to God and tell them we're sorry for our sins for not listening maybe to the inspiration of the Blessed Mother and the help of the Holy Spirit I confess to almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what I have done and what I have failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most Grievous fault therefore I ask blessed Mary ever virgin all the angels and Saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the Lord Our God May almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting will accompany those who believe in my name they will drive out demons they will speak new languages they will pick up serpents with their hands and if they drink any dead any deadly thing it will not harm them they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover so then the Lord Jesus after he spoke to them was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God but they went forth and preed preached everywhere while the Lord worked with them and confirmed their word through accompanying signs the god confirmed their confirmed the word through accompaning signs the gospel of the Lord praise to you Lord Jesus Christ so Jesus ascends into heaven right the Ascension of our Lord and is this a day uh Just for Jesus this day for us too it has to be for us too otherwise I we would still celebrate it but uh there's a message in here for us and all of these things that Jesus predicts right they'll they'll drive out demons the apostles are driving out demons they'll speak new languages next week on Pentecost we'll hear that is there anywhere in the Bible where we hear they will pick up serpents with their hands and they won't harm them say yes yes yes right like in America we think of some religions down south where they do that but yes so St Paul when he uh he crashed I think he crashes on Malta uh he picks up some sticks to start a fire and a Viper grabs him and bites him on the hand and the the locals there that would know the poisonous snakes they think that Paul must be guilty of some of something and he's now bitten he's going to die and he shakes it loose and he's fine and they know the poisonous snakes from the unpoisoned ones right so they do these Miracles these Miracles confirm that God is living in the apostles all right so Jesus ascends into heaven so let's ask whether or not someone is living the ascended life right Jesus goes up to heaven and he's helping from Heaven his people here below so let's ask if someone is living the ascended life if you find yourself at the 10 or less item checkout counter at the food store counting the items of the person in front of you and they have 12 and you're getting angry are you living the ascended life you are not if someone cut you off in traffic and you find yourself speeding up to show them one of your fingers are you living the ascended life you are not living the ascended life okay if you find yourself walking amid mountains of laundry in your house are you living the ascended life I say no Dian says no you are not living the ascended life uh let's keep going uh if you find yourself uh spending vast amount of time scrolling through social media or just scroll scrolling on your phone looking for something while you scratch your armpits and sniff your fingertips are you living the ascended life no you are not living the ascended life right uh if the most popular treatment in your house is the silent treatment are you living the ascended life you are not living the ascended life Jesus right gives us his holy spirit he gives us his life and you heard in the second reading the Diane we're smiling over right like are you're hearing the bloopers right like you're to be patient and kind and generous is God generous yes or no this is why St Nicholas can be generous and just give money to strangers and help you know these kids out like God is generous and loving and super forgiving and that Spirit he pours into us which is why some of you have found that little prayer bless them change me really helps or when let me back it up like this very simple is is God Petty no he is never Petty God's name is not Tom Petty like those who are Petty are free falling into hell God is generous and he wants you and me to be generous too with kindness with forgiveness with love with him with time so if you find and your mom from like Mother's Day do moms want to raise kids that are and I know there's bad moms and there'll be people in the I'm sure in the comments their moms are alcoholic and their moms are addicted and their moms are absent or their moms beat them and like yes there's bad moms but the reason we have Mother's Day is most people's experience of moms our moms are great and are moms Petty or moms stingy some of them are but most moms are generous and loving and they do they want to raise kids that are Petty they want to raise kids that are generous right kids that call their moms on Mother's Day right kids that spend time with their family and value family and faith and friends over well finances and work and pettiness so if you find that you're getting impatient and you're becoming Petty then you're not living the ascended life so then say Jesus from your generosity make me generous like you I believe in one God the Father Almighty maker of heaven and Earth of all things visible and invisible I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God born of the father before all ages God from God light from light true God from true God begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our Salvation he came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end I believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord The Giver of Life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets I believe in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic church I confess one baptism for the Forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen let's raise our prayers to almighty God for all leaders in the church May the holy spirit enkindle in them a holy fire to proclaim the gospel of the Lord let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for leaders in our communities may God give them strength to protect the most vulnerable in our midst especially the elderly and The Unborn let us pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer for all who are burdened with physical or financial difficulties May Christ's love and promise provide provide them Solutions and hope let us pray to the Lord Lord our pray for all who are gathered here may we be strengthened by the Eucharist to follow Christ's call in our lives let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for the faithful departed may they rest in the loving presence of Christ forever let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray for the end to Corona virus let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray for peace in the world especially the Holy Land let us pray to the Lord Lord here our pray pray and now for those petitions we hold in the Silence of our hearts let us pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer we pray that we may be generous as God is generous that we may be giving as he is and forgiving as he is we pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer that he may give us an increase of patience we pray to the Lord Lord hear our prayer for our mothers our grandmothers our godmothers our great grandmothers who have given us life and love that we may show them reverence and love we pray to the Lord Lord he our prayer for mothers who have lost a child through death that their faith may give them hope and their family and friends support and console them we pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer for moms who have lost a child through miscarriage may they be reunited with those babies at the Gate of Heaven we pray to the Lord Lord here our prayer and for mothers who have have died May God bring them to the joy of his kingdom we pray to the Lord Lord hear our prayer Mighty father turn toward us and hear the prayers you inspire us to ask we ask them on your day through Christ Our Lord amen [Music] pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours would be acceptable to God the almighty father may the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and the glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church we offer sacrifice now in supplication oh Lord to honor the one wondrous Ascension of your son Grant we pray that a spirit of profound respect Grant this through Christ Our Lord amen and it's tough you know for Mom putting up with his kids I know when I told my mom I wanted to be a priest you guys I think remember remember what she said you know what she said she didn't think it would be it yeah she said I never thought you'd be the priest and she didn't put her head in it she didn't do that well my brother one of my brothers he would have been an awesome priest he'll be a great Deacon one day God willing um are moms happy when their kids want to become priests or nuns yes or no they should be yes they should be yes but it's not always what about if your son what if like pick on justess with her little kids if your kids wanted to be a veterinarian a dentist or a doctor would you be happy yes you know why she'd be happy one cuz they would do what they're wanting to do but second they would finally get patience [Laughter] oh we'll see you guys next week live that ascended life don't be
