all sorts of things today but uh the church celebrates the Feast of the Ascension kind of the almost the culmination of the Easter season we have three great feasts Easter Ascension and next Sunday Pentecost as we come together we remember that joy that permeates US during this season Christ rose from the dead and offers that same resurrection and New Life to us that's why we work to follow in his footsteps we ask forgiveness for our faults Lord Jesus you sent us into the world to proclaim the gospel message Lord have mercy Lord have Merc Christ Jesus you call us to live our baptism Christ have mercy Christ have mercy Lord Jesus we follow you into eternal life Lord have mercy Lord have Merc May almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring all of us to everlasting life dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen he presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God while meeting with them he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait for the promise promise of the father about which you have heard me speak for John baptized with water but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit when they had gathered together they asked him Lord are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel he answered them it is not for you to know the times or Seasons that the father has established by his own authority but you will receive disciples go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to Every Creature whoever believes and is baptized will be saved whoever does not believe will be condemned these signs will accompany those who believe in my name they will drive out demons they will speak new languages they will pick up serpents with their hands and if they drink anything deadly it will not harm them they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover so then the Lord Jesus after he spoke to them was taken up into heaven he took his seat at the right hand of God but there but they went forth and preached everywhere while the Lord worked on them and worked with them and confirmed the word with with accompanying signs the gospel of the Lord praise to you Lord Jesus Christ I would imagine that most of us are at one particular point in their life or bicycle Riders uh you know sometimes you remember when you learned how to ride a bike you know a lot of us can't remember that far back but it's one of those things that uh I remember uh working with my nieces on bicycle riding and uh so you know if you remember that that Vision in your head there you got this little kid on the bike and you know the adults is kind of running back and forth making sure they don't fall over and you you get kind of tired I remember that back and forth and back and forth uh and all of a sudden they're off on their own but they don't necessarily know that you're not with them anymore and so they are you know they're of and running and they're they're feeling pretty proud of themselves it's it's a great feeling actually well I'd like to compare the Feast of the Ascension with that first experience of bicycle riding and I want to say the disciples we kind of know how the story ends at this particular point in our life but it's like bicycle riding Jesus over these last three years of walking with his disciples was keep teaching them how to ride was teaching them how to be effective in their Ministry teaching them how to live the gospel and how to pray and how to spread the good news and all of a sudden they realize that you know he's not with them anymore he is ascended into heaven what do we do now and basically we all kind of know they really learned the lessons and they learned the lessons well 2,000 plus years later we are still feeling the effects of the work of the early disciples the work of the early church that kind of says we have work to do he sent them forth over the last number of months we've talked about in the gospels you know you have to deny yourself you pick up your cross and you follow me and so those things still work out today as we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension we know as we look ahead towards next Sunday where where the Feast of Pentecost comes in we know that the holy spirit is still with us to guide us Jesus is not here physically like we are with one another but he is still very much present with us as we live the gospel message so our job is to Proclaim it and each of us has a different different role you might say if you listen to the first reading or the second reading today there are prophets and Priests and there are all sorts of people but each and every one of us in our own way using our own gifts and talents has the responsibility and the privilege of sharing that gospel message of making sure that people follow closely into the footsteps of Christ we spend 40 days of Lent working on some of those things and kind of getting focused we spend 50 days of Easter season kind of celebrating and rejoicing but we don't forget what we've learned during Lent and how we Rejoice during the Easter season because it's all part of who we are and what we do so Jesus is in a very real way still running with us and as Jesus runs with us through the presence of the Holy Spirit we realize that we're not alone we have so many interesting gifts and talents that we knew we we use to share the gospel message one of my strange um visions of the Ascension if you got from the the first reading there is um there are disciples they kind of look at they were up in the High Hill and you picture all these guys kind of staring up now that's kind of weird you know all these guys people are staring up the early church and the the men in the white robes are there um what are you guys looking at you have work to do and I think that's the challenge of the Ascension we learned how to ride the bike and now hopefully we still enjoy it no matter what age we're are but as Disciples of Jesus we've learned about it and our job is not to sit around and gawk and look around not to be distracted distractions are so easily taken into our hearts that we forget what we're about we're not riding bicycles but we're in the mission of Jesus Christ sharing the good news asking people to be baptized to live the message and once we do that you know we're on the right way we celebrate Mother's Day today and I think mothers have a great responsibility and a great privilege of being a conduit or of spirituality to their to their families so we celebrate the fact that you know moms do a fairly good job of making sure that we know the message of Jesus and we walk in his footsteps so that message is still alive in a well the bike yeah you may skin your knee a couple times there might be some you know wobbling still even as you get older um but you know the point is we're not alone the holy spirit is with us so our job over the next uh seven days Come Holy Spirit Come Holy Spirit help us to take the handlebars of our faith and help us to ride and ride with confidence knowing that we are not alone I believe in God the Father Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord who has conceived by the Holy Spirit born of the Virgin Mary suffered under Pon pil was crucified died and he descended into on the third day he rose again from the he ascended into and seated at the right of god father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the I believe in the Holy Spirit the Holy Catholic Church the communion of saints the forgiv of s the resurrection of body and life Everlasting amen confident that God still guides us that the spirit is with us we present our prayers and petition knowing that God is there to help us and assist us when things get rough for the church that we may proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ around the world imparting the faith hope and love we have found in the Lord to neighbor and stranger alike we pray to the Lord Lord our pray for missionaries in the work they do to express and extend the gospel to every corner of the world we pray to the Lord Lord our pray for the mothers grandmothers godmothers and other moms remembered with love in spiritual bouquet sent to Heart of the nation in celebration of Mother's Day we pray to the Lord Lord our pray for those who suffer from pain or loneliness especially among our heart of the nation Parish family we pray to the Lord Lord our pray for those who have died May they rejoice in the reward of everlasting life we pray to the Lord Lord our pray for the needs and prayers of all of our heart of the nation Parish members including those joining us from the states of Georgia and M Massachusetts we pray to the Lord Lord our pray Lord God Of Heaven and Earth we ask you to hear the prayers of your family that gathers gathers in their homes that gathers here that gathers to celebrate the joy of Easter help us Lord God to be truly present to one another and to be present as the holy spirit continues to guide welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of God with blessed Joseph her spouse with the Blessed Apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages grant that we may Merit to be coair to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son our Lord Jesus Christ through him and with him and in him balance when we're living the gospel message we of course need to be people of prayer people who Focus so at the savior's command and formed by Divine teaching we now dare to pray Our Father who in be th name th Kingdom th will be on Earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and for us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and us not into temptation but Deliver Us from Evil Deliver Us Lord we pray from every evil graciously Grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may always be free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the Blessed hope and the coming of Our Savior Jesus Christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours and forever Pray for Peace Lord Jesus you said to your Apostles I leave you peace my peace I give you look not in our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously Grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and Reign forever and ever amen May the peace of the Lord be with each of you always and with your spirit as we wish one another the sign of Peace we extend that peace to all those that are watching may the Lord peace permeate your H heart and uh give you the joy of and sometimes we kind of forget you know ants and great ants and things like that and also godmothers you know there are a lot of people that do some good job of making sure that the gospel message that them that Jesus's life is understood by their their fam so we remember all those people who nourish us with that motherly love loving God as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children so you watch over your church bless these women that they may be strengthened as christian mothers and grandmothers let the example of their faith and Love Shine forth and Grant that we their sons and daughters May honor them always with a spirit of profound respect we ask this through Christ Our Lord amen may the Lord bless all of you the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit amen now sometimes you know your bike end up with a flat tire or whatever you happen to have but you know I mean we don't do this alone we do this together that's why the body of Christ is so big to encourage one another as
