the back gave me a big thumbs up so let's all give each other a big thumbs up we're doing well in the lord church we like to uh sometimes just start straight with the word of god because it's so powerful and so profound and it re-centers and kind of guides our thinking in our hearts and our emotions and so we wanted to read a little bit of colossians one with you this morning it's going to be on the screens i'm going to read it to you but you can kind of reflect on it as you see it on the screens it says he that's jesus is the image of the invisible god the firstborn of all creation for by him all things were created in heaven and on earth visible and invisible whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities all things were created through him and for him and he is before all things and in him all things hold together and he is the head of the body the church he is the beginning the firstborn from the dead that in everything he might be preeminent for in him all the fullness of god was pleased to dwell and through him to reconcile to himself all things whether on heav when whether on earth or in heaven making peace by the blood of his cross let's pray together jesus we are um just astounded by what that passage tells us lord that you not only spoke the entire cosmos into existence but you're holding this moment in time and space together right now by the word of your power and so lord help us to not have a small view of you today as we worship you as we bring our sacrifice of praise to you we want to worship you rightly we want to bring a big offering of worship and praise because you are worthy lord and so we just humble ourselves before you we pray lord that you would be exalted in our hearts and in this place we pray in jesus name amen amen to perfect and close to where you want us to be lord and so um we just take this moment and we confess lord our sins to you lord i'm just in the quietness of our heart you hear lord of the ways that we've we've failed you this week and lord uh we don't like that we desire lord to please you in all things and so strengthen us in the areas where we're weak make us more like your son and we just pray lord that you would just continue to transform us into your image and that you do that even through this time together we prayed in jesus name everyone said amen amen amen amen it's so good to remind ourselves that the lord is great amen not us well before you sit down we really want our church to begin getting to know one another and so we're gonna instead of just saying something you're missionaries that you guys support as our church family and they're in colombia and uh we're actually going to be sending a team in two weeks pastor dennis is taking a team down to colombia but we wanted you to see what your finances are doing all around the globe for the gospel so check out this video hello calvary south bay family my name is tim mallory i'm one of the missionaries that serve here at calvary cardena in cartagena colombia our main focus here is to teach the word of god teach the word of god verse by verse teach the word faithfully in its context and help people come to understand who god is over the past few years we've seen our young adults group really take off we've got about 20 of them that come out a couple times a month and we've seen so many just become committed followers of christ which is really encouraging and then as you see behind me is all we've also have calvary cafe which is our restaurant here and we're open for lunch every day and most of the people that come in for lunch don't come to church here they won't come for a bible study on sunday but they'll come and have lunch and it's an opportunity we have on the walls we have scripture and you know we've got our staff that's there to to serve them to show them love to see to make relationships in the community and share christ's love and word with with the locals and so we we love that you guys are involved in the work that god's doing here that you're praying for us that you're supporting us and that we know hey if we need someone to talk to we can we can give some of you a jason duff was here but this morning you have a special treat a friend that i've known for almost 20 years we've pastored all over the world together we've been on the mission field together we've been at patmos reality discipleship school together we have a long history together and so this morning you had a special treat pastor chet lowe from coast hills community church in mission viejo california welcome pastor chet well good morning south bay great to be with you guys this morning it's always such a gift to find my way back home i'm so grateful to be with you guys this morning we are going to be in two areas of scripture today second corinthians chapter three uh i love how you guys just start digging in second corinthians chapter three as well as ephesians chapter four second corinthians chapter three ephesians chapter four while you're turning there most of you guys know i was at calvary chapel fort lauderdale for almost 30 years and in florida there is a food store grocery store called publix they have an ice cream called trinity now any ice cream that's called trinity you know is from jesus and so i would say that my favorite ice cream is that but i just really love all kinds of ice cream um and uh that was a great question um probably not one right before lunch second corinthians chapter three ephesians chapter four that i am going to be teaching today on glory to glory a two-part series and i'll be picking it up again this thursday as well we'll start it on sunday i'll pick it up on thursday and so we will be digging into the word understanding what it means from glory to glory would you pray with me father i am so thankful for your word and so grateful that we can be together i'm so grateful for those on a sunday morning a holiday weekend make the decision we want to hear from god and so lord would you use this moment and change all of our lives in jesus name and all god's people said amen second corinthians chapter 3 second corinthians chapter 3 verse 18 but we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the lord are being transformed what a word to underline into the same image from glory to glory just as by the spirit of the lord this verse is hope for every believer sitting in this room listen carefully to what paul is saying every one of us can change every one of us can change even your mother-in-law now i know my mother-in-law is listening you are perfect in all of your ways but he's writing to the corinthian church and this corinthian church had changed go back with me just a few pages to first corinthians chapter six first corinthians chapter six just about five pages to the left i'm gonna pick it up in verse nine first corinthians chapter six look at the change that the corinthians experienced at salvation do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of god do not be deceived listen carefully neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor homosexuals nor sodomites nor thieves nor covet covetous nor drunkards nor revilers nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of god listen and such were some of you but you were washed you were sanctified but you were justified in the name of the lord jesus and by the spirit of god did you read that with me such were some of you you were changed and when paul is writing this second letter he's confirming the change that happened in their life and if anyone knew about change it's the apostle paul here we have the persecutor of the church that went to the promised giving person of the gospel we have a man that was radically changed when he came into contact with jesus do you remember what jesus would tell simon and in john chapter 1 when simon would be walking up to jesus he would say oh you are simon but you shall be cephas i know what i'm getting but i know how i'm going to change you what about the nickname that was given to john the son of thunder i don't know if you know that wasn't a great nickname that's letting us know john had an anger problem and we know that he did because as they're passing through the samaritan village his idea was to burn them all up but it would be that son of thunder who would become the apostle of love and give us a letter at first john that uses the word love over 50 times you see jesus changes people life and pastor dave wilkinson he believed that and so as a pastor in new york city writing the story across to a switchblade he would go into the gangs and go speak to the gang members and give them the gospel and there was one man by the name of nikki cruz and he would beat him up and he would go back into the gang and you would beat him up and he would go back into the gang until nikki cruz got saved and he went from gang leader to evangelist around the world jesus changes people's lives there's hope for all of us you see elizabeth elliott believed that it would be her husband in the mid-1950s along with four other men that would land on a beach where the hurani tribe were living the head hunters and they would all die on the beach that day murdered by this tribe but elizabeth elliot believed in the change of the gospel and the power of it she would go back to that tribe she would lead them to christ and she would lead minkai to christ and mikaye would become the adopted father of nate's saints son steve saint whom he murdered on the beach and today steve saint's children call minkai who murdered their grandfather he calls them grandpa jesus can change people's lives now i know when i mention the word change there are different reactions when you hear the word change i understand you see we all like the outcome but none of us like the process for example some of you when i say change all of a sudden you resist let me give you an example i want everybody on this side to change your position and move over here and i want all of you to change your position and move over here and you guys you can just move wherever you want just change your seat no one moved why because some of you are sweating is he serious i've sat here for 30 years i mean i practically have my name etched in this pew and i know there's some gum under there from where i put it 25 years ago i mean you're asking me to change some of you are like i'll get up i've always wanted to sit on that side come on honey let's move some of you welcome change like i can't wait to change and some of you hope hey honey i hope you're listening to this message you better change some of you hope others change like your wife will change or your husband will change oh god help my child change they just turned 16 could we just get to 28 and get past all of these years i don't know if you know this about me but born and raised in the bahamas i'm a bahamian in fact what you hear is an american accent that i had to learn when i came over i spoke this dat and diada that's much more comfortable for me it took me years to say th i don't know how you guys created that particular sound and so in the bahamas i need to let you know we still believe in spanking okay so it's like hey we will discipline our children and we will lovingly spank them well i'll never forget when my son needed to change his attitude and we're walking down aisle seven and he started with some attitude and i said to him son we're going to go to the bathroom well he knew that go to the bathroom wasn't really go to the bathroom okay so you know what he said to me seven years old dad if you spank me i'll run to a camera and i will shout he's gonna spank me and he forgot that we had moved back to the bahamas so we're living in the bahamas okay as we go into aisle eight there is a bahamian woman she has literally taken her shoe off and she is spanking her child in isla eight as i'm passing by with my son who has an attitude in the bahamas she looks at me and she says boy leave him with me i'll deal with him i'll cut his hip today right in our late and my son looked at me and said don't leave me with her he immediately changed amen [Applause] you see how the accent just comes right out right however you view change for believers this word defines us but the bible uses a different word it uses the word transformation everybody say that word transformation and all that word means is every day day by day we purpose to look more like jesus the following day than we did the day before we are purposing to look like christ and here in second corinthians chapter 3 verse 18 look with me again but we all with unveiled face beholding as in the mirror the glory of the lord look at this are being transformed it's a statement of our faith we are being transformed not just a statement it's also a direction in romans chapter 12 verse 2 you know it better than me listen carefully and don't be conformed to this world but be transformed listen to the direction but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is good and acceptable and the perfect will of god listen to the direction be transformed and so if you're a believer all of us are in the process of change i want to prove it to you i'm going to read you a scripture and every time i say the word love think your name just make a checklist as to how many you do okay here we go here we go love put your name in there love suffers long and is kind love does not envy love does not parade itself love is not puffed up love does not behave rudely love does not seek its own love is not provoked love thinks no evil love does not rejoice in iniquity but love rejoices in the truth love bears all things love believes all things love hopes all things love endures all things love never fails how many of you checked every single one of those off you're good you've checked you checked them all off you have done every single one of these your whole life you are just you're good anyone my point we are all in the process of change each and every single one of us have an opportunity to become this definition as we choose to change now you may be looking at that definition going oh my goodness i got a lot of work to do don't worry about it do you know why jesus called the spirit of god the helper because he helps us from the inside out to change us to look more like christ that's paul's point the spirit of god will change us in fact the proof that the spirit of god is in you is our transformation now we learned earlier the corinthians had a major change at salvation some of them you read that list going oh my goodness i can't believe those kinds of people were in the church no that's what they were and thank god they came to jesus but transformation is not complete at salvation you see if we believed that all we had to do was change when we got saved it would like be like a butter a caterpillar going into cocoon and coming out of the cocoon with one wing going i can make it no go back in the cocoon you got a whole nother wing to form inside there you need to come out and fly man if you just come out with one wing you're not going to be able to take off when you emerge you see salvation there's a change that happens but over the course of our life jesus prayed a prayer sanctify them by your truth your word is truth you see salvation is one wing but sanctification is another and over the course of our life he changes us from glory to glory he changes us step by step some of you are wondering why haven't i changed i mean i've been with christ for 10 20 30 40 years there's things about me that needs to change well this verse is hope for you let me tell you why i got a secret to tell you you're not dead you're sitting here at calvary chapel south bay that means that you can be confident that he who began the work is going to complete the work and the very fact that you're not dead is the evidence that god is still working on you and the way that he works on you is from glory to glory step by step pastor timothy keller i don't know if you know he's a pastor of redeemer church in new york city he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and i saw a podcast of him as i watched the interviewer asked him tell us about life with pancreatic cancer and this was his response i asked god why did you give me a death date why do i know that i will go in a few months and he said the lord said to me now let me let you in on something he's a presbyterian so for the lord to speak to him is overwhelming okay so he said the lord said to me listen carefully i gave you a death date because there are yet things to be sanctified in your life that you've ignored and you need to get to work wow the lord didn't tell you like enjoy your life the lord no no there's still a work to be done in you you see the corinthians were wondering the same thing i know that we changed but i know there's more things like when i see jesus i'm not like him how do i change and they're wondering the same thing well there were some teachers that came in they came in after paul they seized on paul's ministry and they said oh ho ho we can help you change we know how to help you change let me teach you something but they didn't teach transformation they taught subjugation if you follow the rule of the law you will change don't do this don't do that you better do this and we're going to give this 15 000 list of rules and regulations that you are to follow and if you just follow my way let me tell you they're the beginning of the self-help gospel and any time you put an adjective in front of gospel outside of everlasting know that you've got a problem so they wanted let me tell you what paul called these guys in first corinth second corinthians chapter two you can see it right there in verse 17 he says we're not as so many peddling the word of god he called them peddlers you see they were trying to sell a quick fix to change the original self-help people they were trying to sell quick fix to change if you just buy my book if you just buy my program if you just buy these steps you will change follow this rule read this book i've come up with this great understanding you can change quickly but i need to let you know something there's nothing quick about it james the half-brother of jesus he says this in james chapter 1 verse 4 let patience have its perfect work so that you will be perfect and complete the quickest way to change is step by step the quickest way to change is patiently step by step that's the way the spirit works there's no pill like you can't take a spirit pill at night and wake up the next morning and go wow i feel like i'm empowered by the spirit of god i don't speak like that anymore i don't talk like that anymore i don't do that anymore give me another one of those pills how much they cost 15 bucks i'll take one it doesn't work like that there's no quick fix to change the way the spirit changes your husband the way the spirit changes your wife the way that the spirit changes your child is step by step this is what we call the law of the spirit now that's just a theological term that paul uses to describe this is the way of the spirit the way the spirit works is that he changes us into the image of christ step by step from glory to glory in fact christian without the spirit none of us can change look back with me if you would second corinthians chapter 3 verse 18 look with me if you would but we all with unveiled face be holding as in a mirror the glory of the lord did you read that we all he's speaking to believers he's talking to those that have the spirit of god inside of them and he says you can change there's the hope for change that thing that you're struggling with you can be transformed and you don't need to struggle with it anymore it may take some time but god is going to deliver you and then he says this we all we all are being transformed you will change you will change there's a matter of fact statement of our faith that transformation will happen in your life all of us have the hope to change and he uses an illustration and i'm going to let you for homework read second corinthians chapter three but the illustration they are mentioned if you would look again second corinthians 18 but we all with unveiled face you see in this he's making a reference to israel's history let me tell you the story moses was the only one that could change moses was the only one invited up on the mountain moses would go up the mountain by himself and he would come down glowing like casper the ghost like he would glow reflecting the glory of god and what i was going to do i was going to have a light shine behind me as soon as i said it and you would see like me just be glorified right in front of you but then i thought well that blind everybody wouldn't go so well right but moses was the only one he was the only one that allowed to go and what paul is saying not just moses anymore we can all experience the glory of god but there was a problem when moses would come down the mountain he realized oh my goodness my glory is fading i'm no longer in the presence of god so he's a good leader he didn't want anyone to think he had an issue with god so he covered himself so that no one saw whether he was a glow or a no and can you imagine just imagine okay you guys know me i've been here i've taught for pastor jeff many times imagine if i walked up onto the stage and i did this turn in your bibles to second corinthians chapter three but we all with unveiled face beholding is a mirror of the glory of the lord some of you be like you're a no go back and get the glow [Applause] moses was a good leader he didn't want anyone to see that he was a no he wanted everyone to think whether he had the glow or not that he had the glow and so he would put this veil over his face so that no one knew whether he had the glow or no but what moses was was a symbol he didn't realize it you see the truth the law was glorious there's nothing wrong with the law we're the problem but the law was fading and let me tell you why in galatians chapter 3 verse 24 the bible says that the law was just simply there to lead us to christ to remind us there was no way for us to live perfectly before god so the law was always going to fade because it always would fade in the light of christ and because we all with unveil face now take a look if you would in verse 16 let's see how we can remove this veil in our life look at me second corinthians 3 16 here's where change begins nevertheless when one turns to the lord the veil is taken away see the first step of change is that we invite jesus into our life the first step of change is when we invite jesus in our life the spirit of god comes in us and just like that caterpillar who knows because of his dna to make that cocoon the change comes from inside not outside take a look at verse 17 now the lord is the spirit and where the spirit of the lord is there is liberty liberty from what liberty from bondage of the law no longer do we have to follow external rules the spirit of god is inside of us how many of you have ever felt conviction that you need to go this way anyone ever felt conviction you need to do something anyone anyone okay great has anyone ever felt conviction you better not do this go ahead raise your hand for those of you who didn't raise your hand just go ahead and raise your hand because if you are a believer you should have sensed the spirit inside of you guiding you it's what he does it's how he works the spirit of god is building an internal relationship with you not through external rules but with a relationship and i have found in scripture there are three ways that he works and i want you to write them down i want you to write them down the first is look into the word look into the word let's go back to second corinthians chapter 3 verse 18 looking into the word second corinthians 3 18 but we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the lord what does that mean thankfully the bible explains itself and james once again gives us a cue as to what he's speaking of listen carefully it's james chapter one i'll read it for you you don't need to turn there james 1 write it in your notes verses 22 through 25. but be doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving yourselves for if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer he's like a man observing his natural face in a mirror there's our cue for he observes himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like but he who looks speaking of the mirror into the perfect law of liberty speaking of the bible and continues in it is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work this one will be blessed in what he does so what paul is telling us is we've got to dig and look into the word and the spirit's going to help us find jesus jesus did this do you remember after the resurrection jesus is hanging out with the disciples he's walked into the room thomas didn't believe then thomas sees him and now he's teaching them okay it's after the resurrection in luke chapter 24 listen to what jesus does jesus says to him these are the words which i spoke to you while i was still with you that all the things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of moses the prophets and the psalms concerning me and he opened their understanding that they might comprehend the scriptures so let me tell you what jesus did hey see the story in genesis that's me hey see this in exodus oh that's me see this in the psalms oh that's me that's me that's me that's that's me that's me that's me that's me in fact one year i went through all the psalms purposing to just find jesus so let me tell you about the word of god the word of god is the surviving and the only surviving portrait of jesus the word of god is the only surviving portrait of jesus now i know that's hard for us to understand because it's a book but let me explain it like this i'm at calvary south bay right so i want my wife to know i'm at calvary south bay so here's what i'm gonna do i'm gonna take a picture everybody smile here we go okay here i am oh there you are and now guess what i'm gonna do i'm gonna text it to her and as soon as she sees this she's gonna know he's at south bay and the picture perfectly describes some of you do this all day long my daughters with lips it amazes me i ask them all the time why do you want to look like a duck i mean you're gonna let everyone know your lips are out like this what are you doing and some people post on instagram all the time right now i i didn't test you guys at the earlier service i said you guys are posting on half the service said facebook and i was like south bay catch up it's insta man but i didn't want to embarrass you guys so i'm like oh i didn't want to do that to you because i know all of you guys are not on facebook you're on instagram right and you'll snap the picture and let everyone see who you are even though it might not really be you it's not the same in the bible it's better than a picture it's more vivid in its description as we look into the word it's like an artist with a pencil and the word of god begins to sketch out through the words of jesus and when you hear the words of jesus out of the abundance of the heart speaks his mouth and when you read his words you begin to see a picture of his heart so much better than that like an artist will take a pallet and put all the colors of the palette on the canvas oh the word of god so much better story after story after story his grace begins to unfold as we see jesus go up to a man who's been crippled for 38 years and says to him do you want to be made well and like a master painter god takes the hand of each writer and they begin to write out the character of our god oh the word of god as we look into it we see the glory of the lord that paul is talking about we get to see by the spirit jesus in every context and truly he is glorious but number two write it down not only do we need to look into his word we need to learn his ways we need to learn his ways because the lord is glorious and we are not did you hear that let me tell you a story i'm a little embarrassed about it but i'm going to go for it here we go 16 years old i had bought a six 1965 convertible mustang i thought it would make me cool okay i painted it fire engine red i rebuilt the engine i redid the entire interior and i thought any girl in the world when i turned 16 will go out with me i asked five one of them finally agreed so i take her out i'm driving my 65 convertible mustang now remember i'm not that old i bought an old car so some of you are like wow you look great for 110 okay no listen i i got this car i refurbished it and i'm out with this girl i take her to dinner then i take her to the movies and after the movies i'm feeling like really good about myself you know i got this girl she's cute i'm walking into my car so i go into the bathroom you know now i'm washing my hands and i'm looking in the mirror and i'm like dude you are so cool i went i was like chi-ching you know when i smiled there it was i had a green dangling piece of salad right here i couldn't believe it and i thought to myself no wonder this girl wouldn't kiss me the entire night i had a green little dangling piece of salad right here the whole night i did everything i could to dig this thing out of my teeth because when i looked into the mirror i saw something i didn't like sometimes it's the same with the word of god you look into the word and you realize wow i'm not like jesus you read a definition like love suffers long and is kind and i just got with a fight with my wife on the way to church and you read something like that and go whoa this is way too difficult jesus understands he even said in matthew chapter 7 14 his way would be difficult he said the road would be narrow and sometimes when you look in the mirror of the word and you see yourself but i'm thankful for that because which one of you would have ever thought of this one when someone forces you to go one mile very happily go the second mile which one of you in here would have thought of this one when someone slaps you on one side on the right side turn your left side as well and let them slap you there which one of you would have come up with that rule you see when i look into the word of god and i see his way is so much different than myself i've always said this i i i've always told uh um my students i i don't know if you know about the three strike rule okay first strike you turn the other cheek you get the second strike okay then you entice them to strike you the third time because jesus doesn't tell you what to do in the third time so you can do whatever you want no that's the way of the law but the way of the spirit is you capture the heart of what jesus is trying to say and not one of us in this room would be able to come up with that we've got to learn it from jesus turn with me to ephesians chapter 4 i want you to see this ephesians chapter 4 paul helps us understand this ephesians chapter 4 i'm going to pick it up in verse 20. ephesians chapter 4 now we're going to go back to second corinthians but look at ephesians 4. but you've not so learned christ so you looked into the mirror and you saw something that you needed to be if indeed you've heard him and have been taught by him as the truth is in jesus in other words he's the image we all want to become like that you put off concerning your former conduct in other words get the green out of your teeth the old man which grows corrupt according to deceitful lust be renewed in the spirit of your mind and that you put on the new man brush your teeth wash your mouth out which was created according to god in true righteousness and holiness what paul is saying to us when you look into the word and you learned his way put off the green guck that's in your teeth and put on a toothbrush and clean your mouth in other words get rid of the things that you know shouldn't be there in your life and purpose to put on the things that you know you should because let me tell you bitterness has really worked for you right and anger just makes you feel powerful right i want you to keep that in your mind for a second because he says get rid of those things now you're going to see a verse on the screen and here's why and here's how we're going to learn it says be diligent in other words dig into the word that's what you're doing here on a holiday weekend you're here be diligent to present yourself approved to god a worker who does not need to have green guck in his teeth okay you don't need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth you don't have to be the believer that smiles and everyone sees the green you can look into the mirror of the word learn his way and purpose to change number three the work of the spirit live the abundant life live the abundant life let's pick it up go back with me to second corinthians chapter three i want you to see this but we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the lord and he is truly glorious are being transformed into the same image in other words we're going to look like jesus from glory to glory it means step by step just as by the spirit of the lord now i know when i read this sometimes i'm overwhelmed because i know how far i have yet to go any of you understand that like you're looking at your life and you're going man i i got a long ways to go sometimes i can get overwhelmed but i want you to hear the way jesus looks at this process it's john chapter 10 verse 10. the bible says the thief does not come except to steal and to kill and destroy so if you want to go the way of the enemy the way of the world not a great outcome okay kill steal destroy that's not not i don't know if you know but that's like international for not a great outcome okay but take a look at jesus i have come that they may have life and then they may have it more look at the word abundantly i know the process may seem overwhelming but jesus sees it so differently he says live the abundant life he doesn't overwhelm us by changing us overnight that would be too much for any single one of us if we had to change everything and be perfect overnight we would be self-righteous people but he changes us over a lifetime so that we can understand and experience the grace of god and let me express how we can live the abundant life i'm a surfer and when i was younger i used to watch tom curran videos and i would watch him surf and as i would look at the video i would learn his way and then i would go out into the water and i would live it i would put it into practice i would look at the video learn his way and then i would go live it it's much like watching a basketball game if you're a basketball player you watch the pros and then as you look at them you learn how they do what they do and then you put it into practice you live it so that you can become an incredible player it's the same way in the spirit in matthew chapter 7 jesus says it like this if any of you hear and do my word not just here but hearing do you're going to be like a wise man who built his house on a rock but if you only hear and don't do if you only look but you don't learn and you don't live ah you're like a foolish person that built their house on sand even james the half brother of jesus in james chapter 2 verse 18 he would say i'm going to show you my faith i'm going to prove to you the spirit is in me i'm going to show you my faith by my works now there's a problem isn't there sometimes change doesn't feel so abundant does it sometimes when we know we need to clean up our mouths or stop watching these things but i asked a question earlier how's anger worked for you how's resentment and bitterness worked for you it's helped your relationships it's made you a stronger person how's unforgiveness been working for you do you know there are science there's scientific data that proves that resentment bitterness and unforgiveness puts stressor on your biological body and you actually die sooner no wonder jesus said forgive i know it might feel like some green in your teeth like oh i'm a little embarrassed i'm not as forgiving as i should be that's why he said be loving not resentful and angry you see he's actually wanting to give you abundant life and i know it might be awkward at first but it's kind of like this you guys know i was a missionary in africa for in liberia west africa for many years well while i was there i had to learn the language and i'm actually going to teach you a word okay here's the word why are you laughing okay i want you to say everyone say more no not morning all right everyone say no you're try a little bit harder okay just kind of let your mouth go now you sound funny okay now listen carefully okay when i was first learning the language the language is tonal so listen the word are four different words to me it was me it was like me and my was morning no no it's not morning it's more somewhere hey oh my goodness you actually sound liberated wow some of you are mocking me and going no that's not the word okay the word is say one more time more you just said more let's see bye when i first started speaking this language i laughed at it too i laughed at me why it's like are you kidding me why but as i continue to practice it you guys sound like you're from liberia it's just flowing out of you it may sound awkward at first it may even feel awkward at first but the more you put it into practice i feel like i'm back in liberia all of a sudden it just starts flowing out of you as you choose to live it do you remember matthew 25 jesus looked at the sheep when i was thirsty you gave me something to drink when i was hungry you gave me something to eat when i was naked you clothed me when i was in prison you came to visit and they go now when did we do that and i'm sure going to the prison ministry was awkward at first i'm sure serving in children's ministry or women's ministry or come to the bible study it's awkward at first but as it becomes who you are you'll be like the people of matthew 25 when when did we do this it was so much a part of them they didn't even know that they were doing it anymore ready perfect as you live it you change take a look at the statement but we all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the lord are being transformed there's hope for all of us to change step by step into the same image right as we see jesus we can become like him from glory to glory step by step just as by the spirit of the lord hey south bay do you know that it was by the spirit that jesus went to the tomb of lazarus and said lazarus come out and a dead man came walking and if a dead man can be changed into a living man by the power of the spirit what do you think you've got on god that you can't change we all have hope to change amen father i am so grateful for your word because it gives all of us hope that we can change and my prayer now lord that you would move by your spirit in this place and i'm going to ask with every eye closed and every head bowed is there anyone in this room that the spirit is convicting you right now that i know there's something in my life that needs to change you raise your hand and say yep pastor that's me and so father i pray for each one that has raised their hand humbly that whatever it is that you're convicting them of they would choose to respond and be empowered by your spirit in jesus name all god's people said amen would you stand with me i want to send you home with
