hello everyone and welcome to another video in this channel my name is Abraham leel and today we're going to be working with a very cool tool that's relatively recent here inside of substance painter but before we jump into the tool that I'm about to teach you there is one very important announcement we will have our portfolio reviewed this Friday live on Twitch so if you want me to check your portfolio give you some feedback YouTube some tips and like pretty much tell you what you could do to improve it and get better chances of getting that dream job make sure to submit in our Discord channel so let's go as you can see we have this little like pouch right here this is from an old character of mine and um in this pouch What I've Done Right Here is I've added all of the stitching and there's like embroidery right here this like holds on the side like all of those things are added after the fact so you can actually see the low poly version right here it's a very very basic bake that I did a couple of years ago and look at how much stuff we can add on top of the element by using one of the new tools which is called the path tool right here so so all of the things that you see right here all of the embroidery and things like that they live inside of this curves that you can see right here and the cool thing about this method is that instead of doing it the old-fashioned way which was to draw the curve and then pretty much make it non-presidential because we will be like committed to that specific shape we can now create these curves and we can modify the curves we can modify the curves and change how they look at any point which is amazing we can add more points we can even change the shapes for instance right now I have this like Peril Breezer thing but if I go still my God if I go to my Alphas right here and I look for something you know a little bit more interesting like this Leaf right here and I just double click look at that every single stroke along that line has now changed into this sort of like a leaf shape and I'm going to show you real quick how to do this so let's say we want to delete those elements the the gold borders right here all of the things that you see right here I did the exact same way so I'm going to create a new layer here and let's go for this one like gold nice like pale gold color we're gonna make this metallic and we're gonna bring the hide information up a little bit and then I'm gonna black mask it this is so that every single curve that I create inside of this layer shares the same properties the same sort of like color depth everything so over here I'm going to right click and I'm going to create a paint layer and I'm going to go to my path tool right here and it's super super easy to do just click once and then click two times and you're gonna get a curve and you can modify where you want this curve to be so let's say we want to have it right there and if we want to have a curvature we can either click and add a point or from the last one just keep adding more points until we get the shape that we're looking for super super handy too but there's a lot more things that I want to show you so first of all let's say we want this thing to change the spacing between the elements we're going to be controlling how our little like curve path looks by using all of the elements up here so first of course the size the size of the of the alpha in this case that we're projecting you can change the size of the leaf right there we can change the flow which is going to change the opacity not really useful to be honest or at least I'm not using it as much but the spacing this one is very important because as you can see the more spacing the more of this little guys that we can add so we can play around with the size let's say something like that and then play around with the spacing depending on how like Intense or not we want this to be can you imagine trying to do this procedural or not pursue like traditionally with like a model and then baking everything it's just insane so being able to work in this particularly is just amazing and again the cool thing is at any point they can go back and be like hey this is not going to be gold it's going to be like silver or like a dark color or something like you can change and do whatever you want because this is procedural same thing for the height information right now the height information might be a little bit too much so let's bring this down or maybe push it in whatever you want to do all of this again is fully fully procedural now uh if we want to go back to just go back to the pain layer and the curve is going to be active right here and here's a couple of other things that we can do if we go to a point we can actually change the interpolation of the point right now we can only move the point that there's no handles they did mention on the developer like announcement of this tool a couple months ago that they might add them later on so if you're like used to working with splines you might have that too later on but for now uh we need to like work with this but we do have one very cool thing which is a double click so if you double click on something it changes into this thing which is a corner smooth so if you want to have like a really sharp corner let's say right here and let's say right here we can use that even here to make this very linear look at that so now instead of having a curb effect we have this sort of like hook element going up and creating this really interesting curve and again feel free to just modify the curve at any point and change it so that it fits whatever like the sign you're going now one that's very cool and they um they did very briefly mention it's right here in the pressure so if you modify the pressure you can create a very nice gradient going from point to point so if we want to go all the way to one or zero in this case we can go to this one and be like hey this one's going to be let's say 25 and then this one's going to be like 50 and then this one's going to be like 75. and now what was just created here is a very nice gradient where we go from very big leaves all the way to various small leaves again feel free to change this as you wish I don't think I actually don't think we have the option to change the spacing per point so unfortunately the spacing is per curve and you're gonna have to adjust certain things if you feel like they're like missing something now the other cool thing is that once you're finished with one curve you can continue working on other Clips so you can hear for instance the space enter here just to get rid of my curved mouth and I can start drawing a new curve let's say um like right here on the top so I'm gonna have like a little like thingy going here to the top and here it's going to play with the size and I can make it so this thing kind of looks like it's like fading away right from this one right here and again we can play with the pressure and as you can see we can generate this very very interesting effect right here so it's a it's a very very cool tool this New Path tool again very procedurally very organic and it just has a lot of like options to change things around if you're gonna be doing stitches like the ones that I have right here let me create a new layer right here this is why this is fine I'm just going to add a black mask right here and there is a stitch Alpha this one over here Stitch generator and this one's very important because the Stitch generator actually has a couple of parameters over here so if I again add a paint layer here and draw like I don't know like some sort of like curve here with like stitches some sort of like decoration or something let's clean this curve a little bit you know I've seen something like cowboy like things where they get like this sort of effect so something like this let's say we want something like this and at some point you're like hey you know what I don't like this one as much yes we can play with the size and we can play with the with the spacing as well but I don't like using this one you can change the Stitch type from line to cross and it's going to give you a slightly different effect and you can change this one from Cross to six sag as well which is going to give you again a slightly different effect all of these guys have uh elements for instance this opacity for the lines right there and if we go back to our layer and we push the height information a little bit up as you get sorry as you can see right there you're gonna be able to again generate something that looks very very interesting now this does not only apply to um like stitching and like this sort of like embroidery that we have right there go for like a lighter color oh actually that one's fine this one because I want to go a little bit lighter there we go we could also use this for like details instead of having to draw all these details by ourselves we could add just a field layer that has a no color information just hide information push this height down add a black mask again right click add another paint layer and use that paint layer not with this Stitch just with a normal like alpha or not even an alpha right there and we can click like this we're going to bring the spacing all the way down so it's pretty much a line and as you can see we can use this to create some like extra details on our elements that would be a little bit difficult to try to like freehand when we're drawing this sort of things so let's use that one right there hit enter to get out of that effect and then I'm going to add another one and then this one I want to make it a little bit smaller so there we go and see how easy it's going to be for me to add like this sort of detail to the whole thing hit enter again let's add another one let's say we want to go like in opposite directions like right around there and then maybe I don't know create like an interesting sort of like U curve right here there we go it's not perfectly symmetrical as you can see right there maybe my model was not perfectly symmetrical but you can see look at how easy it is to just like start adding this like crazy lines on our elements okay on our other models we doubt the need to or without worrying about whether or not we're doing the the path right because we have control over the curve at any given point let's add another one right here and then just move this point to the center so it like it crosses the same place and there we go so now we've added another layer of uh of like a visual interest to this whole thing we can even go here activate color again make this like a dark color so it looks like it's actually like embedded on the whole thing and look how much more interesting the whole thing looks so that's it my friends short video today only 10 minutes so let me know if you like this short formats it's very important for us as the AV Leo 3D team to know what you guys think about all of the content that we're producing so let me know if you like the long format the short format please make sure if you like this tip and it's worth a like or a share I would really appreciate it so that we can keep growing and yeah don't forget to join our Discord make sure to submit your portfolio if you want to be on this Friday's portfolio review and that's it for today I'm gonna see you back on the next one bye
