hello everyone I welcome back zoom here and this must be easily the most requested video by you guys today I'm going to do a studio tour I'm going to give you a tour of my studio the gear that I've used and I'm going to explain why each piece of gear has a place in my studio now I know it took a while but to be honest with you over the past few months quite a few things has changed in my studio so I've worn in the situation to crystalize so I can give you a nice snapshot of what I'm using and why and I'm saying snapshot because quite a few of the things that I have in my studio change over time and the situation morphs so you might know by now that I'm a gear geek so I like trying out pieces of gear but if a piece of gear doesn't work with my workflow or I find that our I have this piece of gear and it's not used so often or it just sits there and it's doing nothing for one month or two months then this piece of gear has to go everything that I use serves a purpose I don't tend to keep gear just because of pure gear last okay so today I'm going to show you as much gear as I can in you know a reasonable amount of time but I have another room that I use a storage that I have even more stop there and I bring the main depending on what project I'm working on so let the studio tour begin and I hope you guys enjoy this [Music] [Applause] [Music] so to begin with let's start with my desk and my desk is this one so this is the art to desk actually I would make some really cool plugins it makes some really nice libraries for contact really cinematic stuff and it's quite a big desk so it means that there's space for pretty much everything my controllers that you know that I'm a big controller geek more controllers analog gear coffee really important mm-hmm and pretty much everything else so let's start with what's on the desk I had quite a few people telling me what monitor you use for Cubase what is this big monitor that you have this is the bank you bl3 2 0 1 PT it's a 32 inch monitor I love it I've been using it for like maybe 2 years now maybe 3 years now it's a 4k monitor Cubase looks fantastic on it and the other big thing for me for this monitor was that it's an sRGB monitor which means that the colors are really accurate and when I'm doing video work because I do quite a lot of video editing and photo editing this will give me accurate colors let me turn off the light for a second now another cool gadget that I got that I really love is this one this is the screen bar plus from BenQ as well and what this does let me show you it has this guy right here that you don't see clearly right now but when I press it you will see it this guy is a desk lamp but you know what the cool thing is this doesn't introduce glare to your screen so when I'm recording when I have like a nice synth right here and I want to see what I'm doing it works great I can change the temperature of the light like this and I can change the intensity of the light quick example let's say I want to work with my op1 this comes later on you know with this off I can barely see what I'm doing sometimes I turn it on and I have a nice cozy lamp then Allah to see what I'm doing and it doesn't compromise my screen my screen looks great there is no glare it's designed to do this I love it it's USB powered so you don't need to worry about it love it little little thing but it's cool for studio now controllers you guys know about these I've talked about them extensively on the video that I did for Cubase and the controls that I use if you haven't watched it I'm going to link it right here this is the SIS you want to on love this guy soft cube console one loop deck CT I know that you guys are waiting for a review for this one I'm gonna do it trust me there's a good reason why it's not done yet but I'm gonna do it and I have a new addition this is the stream deck this is one of those devices that many streamers use it's great for OBS I got it to control other things I mainly control to bits with it as you can see you can create your own icons so I have record play play loop I can have the pre-roll I can have dimmed mixer click create all your channel and all these things I can even control the lights on my studio like this I love it because I'm using the lifts or live X lights and when I'm not using Cubase I can control different apps right here I can also see my CPU usage it's really useful I love controllers this is my new addition now let's move on to some really cool stuff here we have the TC electronic - 290 delay and the DVR 250 reverb I love these guys again link right here I've talked about this extensively and let's move on to some really cool stuff now this is the black box from analog design this is the HG - this thing is make a zinc I love it let me show it to you this is an analog tube saturator it as harmonica sound I use it for mastering and I use it to process vocals bass drums it's the thing that makes everything that you run through it sound better in piรฑon let me know if you want me to make a video about this I already have it all my plants this thing also exists as a plugin you guys if you haven't checked it out you should this is my secret weapon let's go here this is the clarity and from TC electronic again I've talked about it in the past really great analyzer you can see your frequencies you can see your stereo field and you can also see your loudness distribution in your track moving on here I have my mastering converter this is the Lynx high-low this is a mastering grade converter and that's why I use it this is also another interface you can connect it via USB to your computer I don't use it as an interface I use it exclusively for my mastering chain as an ad d/a-converter and I use it for monitoring so my order interface does all the hard work and this guy is responsible for my mastering chain and for converting the digital audio to analog to go to my speakers right so beautiful pristine mastering great converter I love it fantastic and the analyzer on this thing is just impeccable now Caleb you guys have been asking me about this keyboard this is a keeper from a company called Accio and it's the retro classic keyboard it has this kind of fake leather kind of finish and it also sounds very retro so it has this kind of top writer sound but I like I'm not sure if sometimes it works when I'm doing recordings because it's a very loud keyboard but nevertheless I love it it has a very nice touch I'm going to try and add links down below for as much as I can that I show you on this video so next up we have the slim blade trackball Mouse I have a video dedicated about this I'm gonna link it right here I cannot add it without this thing I love it you know it this is the best Mouse for anything in my opinion ok and let's talk about the speakers the speakers are the Adams s two V's these are the mastering grade monitors that oughta make I also have in the other room the HS sevens from Yamaha that I always used to double-check my mixes because they have this kind of an s10 character they are really revealing in the mid-range this have amazing low-end there of course near few monitors because I don't have a massive room the bass sounds great I also have the Prima COO stick stands right here that are really I think essential if you want to get the best performance but the SUV's they're pricey but they're really worth it really really nice monitors especially if you're doing critical things like mixing and mastering now speaking about critical things I'm using the gik acoustic panels and I'm using the panels and I'm also using the bass traps now as you can see on one of the bass crops they also have my my headphone collection right there of course room acoustics are really important the reason why I got this gik acoustic panels is because they're freestanding which means because I'm in a room that I modify all the time for videos for recording for mastering for production I might need to take down the room completely these guys I can move them across and I can have them over here as well see so I have a window behind this so I can always go and let's say I want to change this so I can have more light I can remove them I can put them back and they give me a great sound and don't forget I live in London so space is really important and in quite a few places they don't allow you to hang things on the wall so these guys are really really useful and I'm pretty sure that quite a few guys can relate to this maybe you're not allowed to have your room treated because you don't want to ruin the walls this could be a good solution I'm going to show you this guy now this is the rme fireface ufx this is an old guy I bought this maybe 10 years ago a very very solid order interface nowadays I use it mostly for its mixer capabilities because it's it has a lot of inputs it's solid you know but in turn of sound for recording I'm not using this one anymore and I'll tell you what I use I use this one instead I'm using the ax are for you and the reason why is because the preamps in my opinion and the converters and everything are way superior to the UFX you know this one on every three and we have the Rupert Neve silk blue and red that a lot to the sound and I'm gonna give you a hint uh-huh I'll let you know about this just hold on a second of course it's not fair to compare a brand-new interface to a ten year old interface this still sounds great for weight was released but of course it's ten years old what did you expect I mean technology has improved this to my ears sounds like way better but yeah this is modern this is new right let's talk about this guy right here now this is the reason why I am also recording with this one this is the Rupert Neve portico two channel strip and look what it has it also has the silk I mean this is of course in analog form this is what is emulated here on the Steinberg axr for you now let me talk about this for a second I've used quite a few channel strips I don't know if you guys know but I used to work at ASAE where I had access to lots and lots of gear analog gear and I've also been working for dr. mix for more than six or seven years now as a music producer mixing and mastering engineer and I've seen a lot of gear so I've tried many channel strips so this guy I'm telling you this guy is incredible the compressor is phenomenal the EQ is amazing it's great for bass vocals guitars the silk is to die for so again if you want me to do a video about this I can show you something this this thing is brilliant it's expensive it's really expensive but I've seen pieces of gear that are more expensive than this and I wasn't so impressed so yeah let me know if you want me to do a video about this in the comments down below next we have the TC electronic finalizer 96k by the way this is my rack this is the thing that changes the most by the way this is what brought mass ring to the masses back in the day it's a great converter and to be honest with you it sounds great and can give you sound very very quickly I use this to print test masters if I want to have a very quick master for a client or for a film I just run it through this and it gives me great sound throughout of the box it has a specific sound so that means that some sounds this can only give them to me this has a very specific sound I'm not a fan of every module that this thing has and for some material I feel that it doesn't work so well but there are other material that this is the remedy this is the solution next we have this one here this is the Steinberg 816 C order interface now this one I use it as an audio interface especially when I'm going and playing live because this also works as a stand alone mixer you can hook it up into an iPad and you can have effects you can adjust your levels you can go and play live side with this and it has quite a few inputs this has eight mic inputs two headphone outputs in this very specific case right now I'm using it as an 8 channel mic 3 ADA expander for my a XR for you it has all Yamaha Dupree premiums that are really clean very very transparent and this is basically clocked to the links that I showed you before and everything is clocked so that they have the same of course sample rate and no jitter and so on and so forth now before I forget before I forget the tray here I have the machinae mark 3 why do I use this this is of course who doesn't know this this is a brilliant piece of kit the reason why I use this is because it pushes me to create music in different ways as you probably know I know theory I know harmony so I know what I can play on the keys but sometimes I want to create music that's not based on you know the classical theory and harmony this gives me a different workflow this makes me work in a different way with a different mindset so I can create like electronic music hip hop R&B you know experimental interesting rhythmic stuff this is really really cool for this and it's a great controller for groove agent five actually integrates really really nicely with groove agent the pads of course are really good and we also have the encoders here so I can assign those to my filters and groove agent so machinae along with groove agent is my go-to for drums you know for drum machines next to this we have the complete control this is a really really nice Vida keyboard I love it I have it for very quickly controlling my sims my soft synths my library is all these things the reason why I chose this is number one it integrates very well with complete so I have complete from Native Instruments and this can control the sounds very easily but the key bed is really good for a MIDI keyboard it has this kind of sitar style key bed I'm not entirely sure if it's Fattah but it feels nice it doesn't feel cheap it doesn't feel springy it doesn't feel like it's going to break or it doesn't make any noise you know it's really nice it works well it gets the job done now let's move on to the sims let's go to my first safe corner which is this one right here now this one is my polyphonic synth corner like I like to say it so here I have my beloved one and only montage six now the montage six is my go-to synthesizer for pretty much everything this is where I do my sound design this has the best key bet on the market in my opinion I'm very picky with my keys my key beds.this has the best action that's my personal preference but to be honest with you there were seams that I really liked and I wanted to buy and the reason why I didn't get them was because the key better they had was putting me off I'm not gonna say which keyboard I mean but maybe if you meet me at some point I'm gonna tell you in person now why do I use the montage I use it to do sound design I use it to create sounds I use it for my bread-and-butter sounds for you know my pianos my EPS my strings guitars all these things it's my workhorse synth if I have a customer that they want me to recreate a sound that they heard on a record like oh you know I heard this track from this artist can you recreate the sound that's where I'm coming I'm coming to the montage because the synthesis is so deep and so powerful that I can create any sound that people asking for and the fact that I can create pretty much any sound that people throw at me makes it really really invaluable it's a great asset it's a high-end synthesizer but for a dynamic and professional stuff like this you need something like that in my opinion now let me show you something else so let me talk a little bit about this now this emphasize ER it's one of those things that I created for a long before I got it I was thinking do I actually need this I can actually create most of these sounds on the montage and I resisted for a while until I had a friend Keith thanks for this man who basically talked me into this he said yeah man you have to get it now of course I can come extremely close to the sound that these can produce with a montage but these are some really special things like the filter the filter is so creamy it's beautiful its fluffy the oscillator sound amazing and to be honest with you this i use it as a pad machine this is my pad synthesizer i can create beautiful pads with it i don't use it for bases so much I use it for pads I use it for me sometimes for our page waiters for effects it's beautiful the effects on it our decent really nice I like the chorus I like the delays I'm not a huge fan of the river but would probably run it through the montage for something like this but it's beautiful and I love it I'm in love with it and this is gonna stay I'm not gonna sell it so let's move on to the next one no this corner I have the montage eight and you might think why the montage six and the montage eight and the answer is simple I want the same feature set but I want the key bit the key bed is really important to me the montage eight key bed feels like a piano to me as close as it can get I've tried many other hammer great keyboards I wasn't satisfied this is what gives me that feel and of course it has all the sounds like the montage six that can be completely compatible they can have exactly the same sounds that I designed and with this one I play piano sounds I play orchestral sounds I compose on this one because when I compose and I do like film music and I record acoustic instruments I record pianos are it called strings I want a key bed that feels this way I don't like since key beds when I'm recording pianos and stuff like this the monter six goes on the road sometimes the montage eight stays in the studio this doesn't go on the road now on top of this we have the sub 37 this is my bass machine this I use almost exclusively for analog bases like 90% of the time sometimes I use it to lead sometimes I use it for effects but most of the times this is going to produce bass sounds and it's incredible it sounds fat it has this kind of mode character and as you can see I choose my it seems very very selectively I don't have like a million cents although I get since and then I sell them but that's a different story but this one my basin and the way I use it is that most of the times I hook it up straight to my montage so I can process it with the DSP effects that the montage has make it stereo as well because I like my Sims sounds to be stereo sometimes I keep it mono because for bass sounds mono is fine and other times I use this guy let me show you so this guy is the HX stomp from line 6 and this one actually I also use it for processing the sub 37 so the cable goes out of the sub 37 it goes into my HX stomp and I process it right here I cannot delays reverbs most people use this for guitars but it's great for Sims so imagine I process it here this goes into the 80 inputs of my montage turn it on here and then I can add the effects on the montage so I can create some really complex huge sounds combining this effects here and the montage with the sub 37 and sometimes I use it with your basics as well like I said the reverbs on the ob6 I'm not a big fan of this has amazing readers now let's move on to this side and here I have quite a few things some guitars over there some bases but this is the Kemper profiling amplifier I don't think we need to many introductions about this one this is a hugely popular unit when I'm producing music for my albums or when I'm producing music for my clients this gives me an amp sound straight away I use it for this it's great it sounds amazing and I only hope that they had a little bit more DW integration they have a new editor now but nevertheless I treat this as a guitar amp and in combination with the HX Tom I can have a big pallet of sounds let's move on to this guy I am NOT talking about this too much but I know it's hugely popular this is the electron digitech drum machine and sampler I mean again no introductions needed this is a beautiful unit again this one I use when I want to go into a different workflow when I want to create music that's more pattern based and sometimes I like to sample start from the montage and the ob6 and my sims into this and create some really really cool sounds this I use it when I want to create really complex rhythmic patterns and I just recorded straight into Cubase and start mangling them now next to this we have the Opie one I don't think that you guys knew that I had this I mean this is again do I need to say too many things about the Opie one it's a brilliant device again very different workflow I love it to create glitchy sounds create effects I don't use it to create full songs on it yeah I mean you can do it but it's not my style I always record things into Cubase or sometimes I record stuff into the digitech and vice versa so yeah maybe this is the alternative thinking side of things have my more experimental stuff and I also have this little guy right here this pocket operator yeah I used to use this a lot not so much lately maybe I have to start using it again Yeah right there is my reface DX beautiful FM synthesizer if you want to go into FM synthesis the reface DX see I have it right here because I always record stuff with it I can't use it to create like a pizza it bit sounds and stuff like this and before I forget this is my PC where I do the heavy lifting of my work this is a scan PC I live in the UK so Scott creates da W workstation PCs and this thing is a monster it has a 99 processor if you're interested let me know I'm gonna make a video about the specs and what I have and it's nearly silent I have no complaints it's dead silent so yeah if you don't want to spend a fortune for a Mac Pro this might be a very very good choice so yeah there you go guys I hope I didn't forget anything but I'm pretty sure I did so there you go guys that was the tour of my studio I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you found the gear interesting now in the comments down below do me a favor let me know which one of these pieces of gear you'd like me to go into more depth maybe do a review I already have a few ideas but if you want me to do a review on any of those things that you see right here that you saw today let me know and I'm gonna do my best to do a video about it as always don't forget to like this video if you enjoyed it subscribe to my channel if you haven't done so already and if you have a geek in your life a gear geek please share it because they might find something that they will enjoy until next time have fun guys and I'll see you the next one
