Stranger Danger Films from the 90's are Insane

hey there hey buddy how's it going you want to come back to my place I got some I got a Playstation I got a Nintendo you want to play some PlayStation games do you want to go play over the hedge the video game on ps2 do you want to play the Madagascar movie game huh you do stop you were just tricked by an adult you were lured in by the temptation of over the hedge and Madagascar the movie games for PlayStation - sounds like you need a lesson in stranger danger stranger [Music] danger and street-smart programs are programs that were made mostly in the 80s and 90s to teach kids to stay away from strangers and to be smart on the streets so you can't really directly tie what started these programs but mainly people think it's because the 24-hour news cycle started I believe in the 1980s correct me me and editing if I'm wrong and for the first time parents in the United States were like oh [ __ ] kids can get kidnapped you said what now I was sending them out there for like three days straight to just run around you tell me there's adults that want to take them then there was the push you know for the milk carton missing children which is very serious stuff and parents were very scared about their kids being abducted which is very serious and not funny at all so you're probably thinking how could this possibly be a comedy video Eddie you're talking about something super serious stranger danger and street smarts programs and films were made with very good intentions but they're the most bizarre [ __ ] I've ever seen in my entire life and luckily in my elementary school we saw street smarts and stranger danger programs because the tapes hadn't worn out yet so let's dive into the bizarre world of street smart and stranger danger informational videos [Music] the video is called how to be bully smart and it's from the website everything is terrible where I believe they collect a bunch of old VHS tapes and put it up on the website so this first one is not about abduction it is about bullying before you learn how to battle adults let's learn how to fight off bullies you nerd yeah what are you looking at nothing we should call you Dumbo I mean look at your ear yeah elephant ears have you ever been bullied humiliated and scared by someone bigger stronger or older than you no no not me look check this out me bullied come on I haven't though I really have it I have not let's just keep watching being buoyed isn't fun that's why it's important for you all of us to become street smart [Music] that's one way to avoid a bully but not a very good one what do you mean it's not a very good one run run away from the bully get as far from the bully as you can be also help him what are you doing dude Wow he's running to get the absolute [ __ ] beaten out of them let me tell you about bullying and not help him at all avoid clothing that might make you look like you're part of the game avoid areas where bullies are known to hang out if you're trying to avoid a bully wouldn't wouldn't wearing gang colors be like a good thing because then the bully would be like oh [ __ ] he's in a gang we probably shouldn't bully this kid this kid he's wearing red so he's definitely in a gang but also yeah avoid areas where bullies are known to hang out good tip what happens though if a bully approaches me what do I do if and this is hypothetical is what do I do if somebody like is close to you all the time and maybe is bullying you what do you do to that guy Tony's gonna be our bully today it's so silent they didn't put any music there so it's just if I stand this way towards Tony then he has all these areas so he can hit me you got someone your shirt you got someone your shirt that's right imagine that you're a 90s bully and you're like I'm gonna kick this kids ass but first I need to distract him because he has his hand in front of him like this and there's no option for me if he does that so how the [ __ ] am I gonna break this impenetrable force you got something on your shirt hug him you just bullied this kid give that [ __ ] a hug see what he tries to do oh don't stop don't come any closer what do you want I just what we didn't matter why would they include that as one of the bully's lines I was just wondering what we were doing at math get a quieter car or don't drive one of the two so you know that was just a fun anti-bullying thing but the real meat of this video is stranger danger now that you know how to fight off other kids you need to step up and learn how to fight against adults so this video is just called stranger danger it appears that it's a part of like a different VHS program and it's just one of the lessons but this is teaching and naming the different types of traps that adults can use to get you abducted you've already been told about strangers dressing up in uniforms but there are other traps you need to know about hi I'm just playing with my daughter's video game but the battery seems to be dead I've some in my car why don't you come over and help me put them in stay away from people in cars or vans that is a horrible plan I don't want to give tips to these people but what dumbass kid would be like oh you're playing your daughter's video game so I should go to your car to help you get batteries to put them back in are you gonna let me play it all weekend how you doing um no no I don't like that I don't like his look I don't like that there are feet right there stranger danger stranger danger you know we're making a movie over there you want to go see it only professional agencies hire kids for TV work hi I don't know maybe this video can also serve as a stranger danger lesson if you talk to an adult ever that looks like this guy he's a stranger even if he's like your own father if he looks like this don't trust him but also you're shooting a movie can i is there may be room for like an extra or maybe the star of the film dropped out hey kid I'll teach you how to hit this ball right over the fence come on it'll be fun trust your own feelings this is one issue with stranger danger stuff as they always stress to the kid trust your guts trust your feelings if something feels off don't go there when these started back in like the late 70s early 80s the tone of a lot of them that I could find were very dark and creepy and I don't know if that didn't work but by the time they were showing them to me the ones made in the 90s they didn't really want to tell kids that adults wanted to abduct them so I would see these videos as like a nine year old and they wouldn't say that the adult wanted to abduct you they would just say you know if a stranger comes up to you and offers you PlayStation games say no and as a kid I was like why they sounds super [ __ ] cool if they just have a bunch of PlayStation games why wouldn't I take that deal your mom's been hurt she's in the hospital she sent me to come and get you what's the secret code away I don't know the code word you don't need to get near the car to talk to someone inside that's one actually very important tip if you're a parent get a code word for emergencies that's actually a good one I mean all these are kinda good they're helpful they're just funny but the next video we're gonna cover is way more weird than helpful but really quick before we skip on to the next video I need you guys to see one of these examples hi you sure cute kid Oh God you know I'm a professional photographer but come on hop in the car I'll take your picture if someone wants to take your picture say no and tell her parents I have a thousand questions the first is why is this one called the hero trap is him offering to take photos of me a hero thing come into the car and he'll take my picture are we taking driving photos I don't know if it would look cool or not but maybe some some racing gloves some leather gloves and maybe like a leather jacket from Drive you think that would work should I get those first or should you just hop in the car now all right so that guy's terrifying but the real big one that I wanted to get to in this video is the next stranger danger one and I know I've said this in a lot of videos before but really prepare yourself because it's gonna get really really [ __ ] weird so this video is called get street smart a kid's guide to stranger danger [Music] great news Capricorn America's favorite alien exchange student is starring in some other new fun educational films oh hold on what did what the [ __ ] did you just say to me America's favorite alien foreign exchange student and we're just acting like this is totally normal and this is something that everybody knows about fine all right those are the rules of this world let's just keep watching episode 1 a safe new world Capricorn known to his friends as corny is an alien exchange student from the planet zorkon okay all right sure chosen to boldly go where no Zarko nyan has gone before corny and his family travelled across the galaxies to a planet called Earth pursued by strangers and evil kidnappers corney's mission is to learn what it means to be street-smart and teach all the kids in the universe how to make their planet a safer place his time has come may the cosmos be with him so corney's one job is to come here with the knowledge of street smarts and teach it to the children of Earth pretty noble thing let's see how he does [Applause] the buddy-buddy rise and shine post no fear that's a lot today it's gonna be a hot one on key cruise when you're making a stranger danger video and you want this star to be a relatable kid the first thing that you shouldn't do is make him an alien you're trying to teach kids how to be street smart in their real life situations and the first thing you do is make them unalienable East film aliens I've ever seen [Music] ready to blast into orbit Sun God bad that is not the voice that I expected out of that alien I don't know what I expected but it wasn't that one of these that's a good boy Capricorn goldfish make your ski a nice daily so Capricorn the alien goes through his morning routine and it's very important that you pay attention to the details but then he heads to school to get a lesson from his teacher in stranger danger want some candy kid oh no dang it rats my ear that compliantly Buster put up the radar carny oh boy unidentified be corny you came to this planet specifically to teach kids about stranger danger and you fell for that you want some candy trick that's number one that's number one in the stranger danger rule book they never have candy and if they do then it's cool no that's not true at all oh sorry good thing it's safe to eat at school ah who needs it a smile goes a mile you know all right hey where you going on your rid of school think he likes me hello interesting boy how where do you come from that yellow house over there nice you never give our personal information to a stranger do you know that guy no but he has a friendly smile corny you idiots what are you thinking dude this is like the one job you were supposed to have and you're trusting every adults also what neighborhood is this because there have been two predators in less than 30 seconds you can't dropkick a 200-pound man I've got insurance my failsafe device it says that's me away awesome then I guess we don't have to worry about you anymore the only problem is that I'm never exactly quite sure where I'm gonna end up so I hate that this is important to the video but just to reiterate corny has a sapper on his wrist that zaps him out of situations but he doesn't know where it will take him it matters I'm sorry as I was saying the world is a beautiful place when your street smarts and if you were listening you would know the three rules that can save your life so there are only a couple of things that matter in this scene the teacher really just gives three lessons to the kids one always stay with your body two don't trust strangers three trust your gut feeling wherever you walk and take the safest direct route stay out of alleys vacant lots parking lots and construction sites right a shortcut so corny has now learned the three pillars of stranger danger and as he's walking he's thinking about the teacher saying stay out of alleyways stay out of vacant lots and what does he do he walks directly into a vacant lot alleyway and that's where of course there are some strangers lurking you help me find him I just know I'm never gonna see him again the poor lady that gut feeling all right guys answer at home what would you do obviously you run so what is corny do as an ambassador to the darkonians for street smarts corny what did you do well actually he didn't do much because there was a grown man behind him so even if he said no he would have grabbed him still so really his decision wouldn't matter at all in that situation other than trying to run before this even happened [Music] the music is way too wacky for what is happening right now he is being abducted and they're even shooting it slamming the pickup truck locking the door there it's way too wacky there needs to be some dark music here so corny uses the zapper and he ends up on some guy's horse isn't that fun and wacky I guess but you know he escaped the abduction so good on corny he didn't even need to use street smarts because he's got that wristband is that the same radio from the day before [Music] ready to blast into orbits they're not doing a [ __ ] Groundhog Day thing are they you're not about to Bill Murray this [ __ ] are you corny so corny goes to his friends to you know ask if the day is repeating and they say this what day is it Monday Monday I thought that was yesterday how many mondays are there one duh um that's not true there's like so many mondays there are so many mondays that we have an entire cat dead Akay today hating them so he goes to another day at school they give him more street smarts tips that he's still not gonna follow I don't know how he can't retain any of this information but they're walking back from school and we see our stranger friend yet again now that you have all this knowledge and have literally been abducted before what are you gonna do corny hey morning are you doing now yeah you might be my friend how could you not learn from literally the day before getting thrown in the back of a truck that maybe you should just walk straight home with your friends you might have been hurt in an accident she sent me to come get you get in the car oh my mom I better help her so you know with wacky music again corny gets abducted and they lock the car doors in on him so what does he do he uses his trusty zapper to zap out of the situation and I guess end up in a hot tub with old people he just got [ __ ] abducted isn't that so fun and wacky so after that he wakes up in the same day again goes back to school for some reason there's a different stranger danger lesson every day which doesn't really make sense he walks home he gets lost from his friends after being abducted twice he still falls for this [ __ ] let me fear obviously you say yes you're not old enough to drive what other chance are you gonna get to steer a car go for it corny you had two days before this and each day you got abducted but yeah let's get in this strangers car running down the road keep going back hey what are you doing the next morning he convinces his friends that he had been kidnapped the two days before and he's on a time loop so you'd think you know he's told his friends now about being abducted they're gonna help him and just walk with him on his way home from school right wrong it's an entire montage of corny getting abducted on different day loops [Music] [Music] listen to your heart don't be scared this is so dark why is there a friendly fun song with a fun alien mascot this is like really dark kids should not tie this with a fun alien I know it still teaches them the lesson but like that adult just chased him into the woods another do-over day wait so corny wakes up again and he's tired of the loop but oh no he left the zapper and he's been abducted so many times I cannot trust him without this zapper to save himself [Music] you would think that in this video they could teach that you could ask a teacher you know can I stay here until my family gets home I'm worried that I'm gonna get abducted on my way home you know cuz it's happened like a thousand times so far but no he doesn't ask anybody and he decides to walk home super paranoid no no no you talked to me for a while maybe yeah maybe we get some ice cream uh I don't know well here right maybe Hank no no okay we'll see you later corney's using street smarts to tell this guy no but also his friends are all in the background so he could just go and link up with them but this is supposed to be the time he gets it right so when you're teaching kids street smarts you're teaching it poorly so corny gets home he makes the right move of calling his mom then we have a guy showing up trying to get him to open the door for a delivery and he almost falls for it to prove more that this is like the worst neighborhood in America the original stranger guy comes back so that's in like two minutes two different predators came to his door where do you live dude and like an idiot corny opens the door and the guy tries to kidnap him but luckily he uses his street smarts to flail around and yell so another adult comes and then a cop comes in and the guy gets arrested so corny really didn't use street smarts this entire time but finally he realized that as long as you get to the point where you're being kidnapped and you can flail around you'll be safe and that's it for our story today so all in all today we learned you know be street-smart don't trust strangers on your walk home but if they do have if they have PlayStation games if they show you the game if they have the game
