okay and and you can see all the terrain around you you've got no issue with visibility or anything now everything's peachy peachy keen just did a little circle around Rainier it's beautiful I think I got some jobs to go check out the Olympics and yeah okay and I'm rich you know are able to tell what altitude you're at that's reported inside of his best that's join I was thinking about it and then probably good thing I didn't yeah that's all mumbles I have no idea with all that means I would know how to punch it in I'm I'm a fighter pilot just know I'm not taking it any jets I'm actually keeping you away from aircraft that are trying to land at sea-tac oh okay yeah I don't want screw that I'm kinda grudging odds you know screwing up everyone else's day on account of me I'm down to 21 hunch I started like 30-something she said you're at 2,100 pounds of fuel left yeah I don't know what the furnace burn is spread out is like on takeoff but yeah burn quite a bit faster than I expected okay there is the runway just off your right side in about a mile do you see that that's the that's the that's McChord Field oh man those guys who roughed me up if I tried man in there I think I I think I might mess something up there too I wouldn't want to do that hopefully oh they probably got anti-aircraft now they don't have any of that stuff we're just trying to find a place for you to land safely yeah I'm not quite ready to bring it down just yet but holy smokes I got a I got a stop look at the fuel cause it's going down quick okay rich if you could could you start a left-hand turn and let's take you down to the southeast please this is probably like jail time for life huh I would hope it is for a guy like me or Richard that we're not going to worry or think about that but could you start a left-hand turn please and he's gonna try and help you out here a little bit okay and I think you might have some questions rich I've got to pile it on with us and if you get any questions around and and you know I tell you what let's just do those push you see the HPD HCG but right by that little thumb wheel no you can do that with these things so what was if you were to do it how would you do it well I try to figure out how to use the autopilot first I concentrate so much on flying airplanes hey you think if I play that successfully laughs go give me a job as pilot you know I think they would give you a job of doing anything if you can pull this off yeah right now I'm a white guy talking to that aircraft this time if they need your assistance I will let you know but they're talking that aircraft right now yes events like hey guys John yeah I'm still here rich that was kind of not either [Applause] sir if you want it to land probably the best bet is that runway just ahead into your left again that's the McChord Field if you wanted to try that might be the best way to set up and see if he can land there or just like the pilot suggests another option would be over Puget Sound into the water dang she talked about course yet cuz I don't think I'd be happy with you telling me I could land like that cuz I could put some stuff up or a charity talk to them and just like me what we want to see is you not get hurt or anybody else get hurt and so like I said if you want to try to land that's probably the best place to go hey I want the coordinates of that worker with a you know the momma or go with the baby I want to go see ya guys behind you there's another aircraft would you be willing to talk to them if they're on the frequency and maybe they can help you land back hey what's what's that for my stare behind me I like to my left okay rich first of all we just need to keep flying the aircraft and so if you could just stay there and keep flying the aircraft here the the airport you just passed over on your left that's the Tacoma Narrows Airport I mean that's also an option if you want to try going there but like I said earlier McCord that's that's the bigger runway if you wanted to try to land there what's it pay riches as Captain Bill here we're still listening fire flames feeling just fine how's yours they said it would be a better option I think if you try to land it or even land it on the water yeah hey Don I want to know what this weather's gonna be like you feel that big well if you can see the Olympics the weather's good I can see the Olympics from my window and it looks pretty good over there all right I hit some eyes so McGeorge going around right near but there's no clouds Harvey that's just the the wind blowing over all the puffy surface is there copy that but rich if you could maybe start a left-hand turn start turning back around because if you get too close to the Olympics you won't be able to hear us anymore turn back around here like I said I just want to keep talking to you and if you keep going towards the Olympic Mountains won't be able to hear each other I've got a lot of people that care about me and it's going to disappoint them since the year that I did this I would like to apologize to each and every one of them just a broken guy got a few screws loose I guess never really knew it till now just you know and they'll come in here and start talking to rich as well man have you been to the Olympics these guys are gorgeous holy smokes yeah I have been out there it's it's always a nice Drive yeah yeah I bet you do I haven't done much hiking over there and but if you could if you could start a left turn and turn back towards you so now you're getting a good view there but if you go too much further in that direction I won't be able to hear you anymore hey by the guy can this make you a AB absolutely thing I'm going to land it like safe safe kind of manner think of which I do a barrel roll and if that goes good that's good nose down all the nice well rich before you do that let's think about this I got another pilot coming up pilot role here in just a minute or two I go and we'll be able to give you some advice on what to do now or we call it a bug it's like a little blue rectangle this is somewhere around there compass do you see that just kind of lightheaded dizzy and you know the sights were fight so fast so I was thinking like gonna have this moment of serenity you know I'll be able to take off in all the sights pretty stuff I think they're prettier in different contexts the right hand side above you on our inside air-conditioning panel you'll see it's a big panel there's three switches along the top of it make sure all three of those switches are in the down position facing the nose the early so we're there that is all thoughts okay rich thank you 2500 to be exact okay thank you and do you have an idea of how much feel you have left you by like 760 summarizing [Applause] well no need to do that if you could just start a turn to the right and then I'll tell you when to stop turning and then you can keep it level from there I feel like I need to be what do you think like 5000 feet at least the other folders fair enough do you get hurt either if you could see you're still turning to the right you want to maybe start making a turn back to the left a little bit you'd be a hero if you could pull off the landing all right richest Captain Bill congratulations you did that no it's uh let's try to blame that airplane safely and not hurt anybody on the ground all right damn it I don't know me I don't I don't want it I was kind of hoping I was going to be is you know comes along I feel like one of my interests is going out or something okay rich if you could you just want to keep that plane right over the water maybe keep the aircraft nice and low

If you listen to the full audio, he sounded very calm, and he was respectful to the air traffic controllers. He was very intentional about what he set out to do, and it translated in his aloof attitude about it all. Sounded like a really grounded, normal person. Took care to not hurt anyone in the process. I felt a lot of compassion and regret for him. Like he could have been any one of us just going through a really rough patch in life.

It was a major headline last summer!!!! I couldn’t believe it actually happened!! The guy had F-15’s intercept him. Crazy he pulled off a barrel roll. Mental health is a serious issue man...
