how's that everyone this asana jay with surf trick tonics and in this episode we will go over how many starships are in Starfleet during the enterprise era of the year 21 65 after the founding of the Federation and the earth Romulan war now this has always been an elusive question for any Trek time period but we finally have a baseline number from Star Trek discovery season 2 it is stated that the Federation consists of 7,000 starships in the year 2255 and although I seldom agree the Star Trek Discovery Canon or lack thereof I think this figure actually makes sense first let's consider how big the Federation is spanning almost 8,000 light-years containing over 130 member worlds and hundreds of more star system and that's one big chunk of the galaxy about 50% the size of the Alpha and Beta quadrants so out of these seven thousand ships 25% or 1750 our frontline ships like the Constitution Maranda class frigates destroyers long range heavily armed exploration vessels or the unspoken military branch of the Federation another 18% around 1260 ships would be member world Home Guard fleets leaving 3990 support vessels transport transport cargo freighters mining vessels medical survey colonial ships Federation security patrols tugs tenders every ship variant needed for Federation logistics and lines of communication to support a galactic infrastructure network so with this figure says 7,000 ships in the year 2255 we can use a mathematical formula and count backwards to 2165 for an accurate fleet count 90 years in the past during the Star Trek discovery era there were 131 Federation member worlds during the enterprise era there were only seven earth Vulcan and Daurio teller prime de nobley Alpha Centauri oh that gives us a total of 1.3 7 Federation worlds added per year with an average ship build of 67 per year that would be from 2165 to 2255 that 90 year period but first let's take a look at look at starship construction from a 23rd century point of view now we have to think about starship construction with technology thousands of times more advanced than that of current date the shipyards and dry docks are basically giant 3d printers each dock arm is a matter stream conversion array emitter where geranium and tritanium ores are beamed through the arrays and the same fashion transporters reassemble human cells except on a drastically larger scale to modernize older ship designs another 180 space vessels would be at was allocated for home defense fleets for the United Earth Space Agency the Vulcan space fleet Andorian Imperial Guard teller prime Navy and the the no bloom expeditionary force making the total number of ships and stars Starfleet in the Federation one thousand five vessels during the Enterprise era year of 2165 so out of the one thousand and five Federation starships of the Year 2165 and using the twenty five percent rule that would give us about two hundred and ten primary front-of-the-line Starfleet vessels considering the 185 Home Guard Federation vessels wouldn't really be counted and Starfleet at the time since it was newly formed so we'll just give it a good round number of the 820 Federation ships to give us the 210 Starfleet ships now let's take a look at these 210 Starfleet Federation primary front-of-the-line vessels now these are third-generation designed ships with the advanced warp 3 engines the first generation would be built in the 21 60s that came from the flags of the Phoenix and the next one would be the second generation with warp two which are the pre Arab Federation pre era United Earth ships so let's jump into these different class of Starfleet ships so by the year 2165 Starfleet had around two hundred seven primary starship vessels these were recently newer built over the last twenty to thirty years utilizing advanced warp drives and upgraded components and systems more powerful weapons and defenses do most important from technological exchange between the coalition of planets fighting the Romulans that would form the Federation the first an S Class naval security vessels were repurposed and retrofitted NX wor prototype test ships like the NX alpha and X beta and annex Delta the superstructure of these ships were designed to be very durable so they were made perfect for for the hall and frame expansions 65 NS class security ships were built from the years 21 15 to 21 60 the NX alpha was retrofitted into the NS alpha patrol boat 20 were produced from 21 15 to 21 35 with a max warp factor to this ship conducted security control patrols around planet star systems proximity borders and provided security for warp commerce routes now the NX beta was refitted as the NS data defense escort ship 20 were produced from 21 22 21 45 with a warp were constructed from 21 25 through 2135 the NL neptune class destroyer was Starfleet's first purpose-built warship in response to increased tensions with Romulans Klingons and Sula bonds combined with intelligence report of a possible threat from a specie called the Xindi 14 were produced from 21 32 21:55 with a warp 3.6 drive with advanced effete defensive systems and upgraded stealth long-range sensors that could also detect invisibility screens through tachyon admissions track and hunt these elusive vessels the NL Ganga's class tactical light frigate was a long-range at the expeditionary ship for survey research and surveillance missions she was equipped with heavy weapons systems along with new defense fields protecting critical ship areas like the bridge engineering and warp core combined with polarized advanced polarized haul planing with a warp 4.5 drive 12 were produced from 21 35 to 21 61st the NL Ganga's light frigate mark 4 was the most advanced Starfleet ship of its time by the 21 50s and 21 60s all the NL class light frigates had been upgraded to have a warp 4 on five dried system the naval variant Daedalus class destroyer and tactical Cruiser was the start to design in anticipation of possible future conflicts high level Vulcan diplomats have been briefing United Earth leaders of various aggressive and expansionist type species that were nearby in the Alpha Quadrant United Earth Starfleet mandated a program to rapidly construct a force of combat ships from preexisting vessels combining unused and upgraded components initially this was a stopgap method until more advanced starships could be built thus the Daedalus was born most of the day lift ship were already in the fleet extra pylons are available and the cells were refitted and upgraded with more advanced warp cores the first Daedalus ships out of the dry docks were basically plug-and-play vessels 48 were quickly assembled and modified from the years 21 32 21 65 with shipyards pumping out three date alessa's for every NX class cruiser built in 2150 for a larger tactical cruiser variant began construction and was later fitted with the newest warp 7 engines they performed primary defense roles heavy escort high speed transports tactical fleet deployments and became the primary tactical exploration of Starfleet vessels in the year to come the naval expeditionary freedom class frigate was Starfleet's first warp for vessel she was a fast frigate designed to support and defend outer United Earth star systems cutting the travel time in half this starship had good defensive systems and advocate cargo space to quickly deliver essential high-value components small but very eccentric our goal ten freedom class frigates were produced from the years 21:42 2165 with an upgraded mark - constructed in 21:52 with refitted the cells for higher warp factor six the thicker in the cells of the USS Franklin was seen in the movie Star Trek beyond the rescue sensitive convoy a cargo escort and reserve fleet reinforcements the type 2 had offset in the cells giving her a faster warp factor 5 and was utilized as the NX cruiser heavy escort or emergency response from vessel it also performs missions of tactical survey patrol of nearby United Earth territory of proximity star systems and surveillance in the late 21 50s and 60s the type ones were upgraded to a warp factor 4.5 and the type twos were upgraded to a warp factor six point five they were also equipped with advanced sensors that could detect stealth or screamed Romulan ships vessel and platform for the new warp 5 engine and had the most advanced systems on state-of-the-art engineering of the time production began in 2150 and by 2160 115 NX class cruisers had been built with three variants each ship built increased the warp velocity until the type 3 warp seven engines the tactical exploration Cruiser fleet was cooked quickly upgraded with heavier defensive stirring the Romulan war she served as fleet command ships and was involved with the heaviest combat engagements of The Rime of the moor in 2163 the NX program was cancelled and the Daedalus Cruiser took over the exploration role but then as fast ships would still be used and refitted for another 90 or so years before their retirement the NX experimental heavy cruiser was a retrofitted NX class primary haul with an upgraded secondary haul this was Starfleet's testing and platform for the warp 7 program and from 2159 to 2162 3 were constructed for trial runs with the increased warp and addition airy secondary haul the deadline itself was a success but the complex engineering and systems led to the program's cancellation as well as the NX class cruiser valuable breakthroughs and refinements during the testing phase were incorporated into the Daedalus class and the Bonaventure class during the Romulan war during the Romulan war the heavy cruiser was converted to Starfleet flagships one was destroyed and another was so heavily damaged he had to be scrapped and the NX Enterprise refit was the lone survivor being Fleet Admiral archers command ship the NX 0:01 the NC Bonaventure combat cruiser class was Starfleet's first large-scale ship of the line purpose-built worship from 2159 to 2165 eight were produced the first Starfleet ship to use energy defense shields along with advanced in combat the Bonaventure became the capital ship of Starfleet in subsequent years with 45 more produced from 2165 221 73 this starship was the first to utilize the advanced systems reverse-engineered from the temporal wreckage of the Borg sphere and the Xindi weapon probe recovered on Earth in the year 2150 to 21:52 was also the trek multiverse divergent point that created this discovery timeline
