we need to break up the compressed peat moss bail so it spreads easier so we just get mean with it doula body-slamming and that fluff sit up and it will spread easier we take our nicely fluffed bale of peat moss and we've abused into softness and a utility knife and we'll just open the Bale cut up one side across the top and a leather side and that leaves a flap and it just starts rolling out and then you grab that the end that has the two flaps and you just start to walk backwards and swing it back and forth get it spread it up in three of these large bales the 3.8 cubic foot bales are enough to do a thousand square feet of grass and you can do more but I wouldn't do less and the goal is to get about a quarter of an inch thick over the entire lawn in that step one now we'll spread it out with a rake all right well now we've got the peat moss on the bag and on the grass but it you know it's in bigger piles and we need to disperse it and spread it around go this way is with the big leaf rake this moving around this is a big pile so we've got to really move it but it gets sifts right into the the grass it fills in the low spots more and again the goal is get about a quarter of an inch so areas like here there's too much let's move it around that's it you've just chopped the rest your lawn with peat moss and the reason I'm using peat moss is in this area we have heavy compacted clay soil and we've had really good results with the peat moss and the microbes in our compost team dealing with the soil compaction that's causing the dandelions so it's its way of building soil and creating habitat for the microbes and then correcting the soil problems that are causing these leads and it's labor-intensive but it's not hard there you go okay so we put down our grass seed we spread the peat moss and raked it in and now we're good to go Bob with with the loitering you want to keep the seat moist so water once a day for like ten minutes if it gets hot like 85 or higher you might want to do that a couple times a day and then once a week water it deeply so that you're getting the equivalent of an inch of water and just put on a rain gauge and time your sprinkler system until it fills up to that and that will tell you how long you have to run your system to get an inch and yeah then you can mow you can walk on it you can mow it as you normally would mowing height good height is three inches and your lawn will thicken up and be beautiful once again
