the only way to stick to a daily habit such as cooking and eating healthy food is to make it so simple that you barely have to think about it this no chop lentil soup is amazing I feel so naked without my cutting board let's get to it hey everybody this is Dylan you know I'm the guy helping you to simplify your Healthy whole plant food diet so you can get in and out of the kitchen as quickly as possible because it is all about fast if you're going to do this every day we've taken a recipe we have on our YouTube channel and we've made it even simpler this is the no chop version sure it's fun to make recipes with fresh ingredients chop them up and throw them in the papa sometimes you just need to cut Corners So today we're going to use some frozen ingredients we'll get to all that some dry lentils spices boom you got a soup in a hurry anything that tiny part this part might be too small because we are making a pretty big version of this soup that'll last you all day maybe a couple of days so I'm gonna get a bigger pot okay now we're ready you can get the recipe for this one down below in the blog post it's got all the amounts and everything but this recipe also comes from our before but I forgot to turn my mic on so we're doing it again as we go here think of the ways that you could modify this recipe like such as the flavorings the different spices that we're going to be using you could use our spice Blends that we sell on the website we are making a big pot of soup today because I love to make big batches of things and then eat them all day and even if I did have leftovers it really would only last me one extra day so yeah you could like freeze this but we're using some already Frozen ingredients so the texture might not be great or you could just half the recipe but then you wouldn't be using one entire can of tomato paste really this recipe is as big as it is so that I found finish this whole can let's get started this is after all a lentil soup I'm using green or brown lentils in the recipe I put green this is I guess technically these are brown lentils whatever it doesn't matter they're really the only difference between lentils that I care about is red lentils are in a category and all the other ones are in a category for me because red lentils when you cook them they kind of turn to Mush and they can really thicken things up and make a nice creamy soup you know this soup takes 20 minutes or more to cook you could use canned lentils and this would become instantly a 10 minute meal you can find no salt canned lentils too this is the West Bray brand you can find them at Whole Foods at Sprouts I will admit it's kind of expensive you could also buy a whole 12 pack case on Amazon for even cheaper then you can find these in the grocery store the prep for this recipe is still like five minutes I have two bags of Frozen butternut squash essentially two pounds these are actually a little bit smaller bags but it doesn't matter you could use fresh but preparing fresh butternut squash is a little bit more of a hassle so if we're trying to go with Simplicity I love the Frozen butternut squash plus it Cooks into almost like a mush I really like what it does to soup kind of makes it a little creamy oh these are just these are cut up real small this is a little bit smaller cut than some of the other Frozen butternut squash that I've got whatever it's all good in case you're wondering if you need to let anything thaw you don't need to it will thaw as it heats up on the stove too no big deal couple bags of cut spinach this is the Frozen cut spinach you could use those hard little blocks of spinach too it doesn't matter you could use fresh spinach too you could take the clam shell and you could throw in some handfuls of fresh spinach whatever works what about kale do kale would be great you could use bag tail or the frozen kale there's Frozen chopped kale just like there is spinach any of your favorite greens will do great in this stew now we're going to throw in some chopped onion I'm going to use the dehydrated dry stuff you could easily have used a bag of frozen onion like 10 12 ounce bag of the chopped onion I just wanted to get this on your radar because it's a great product too throwing it in boom next up we have that tomato paste I'm putting in the whole six ounce can you know it what other recipes you use it an entire six ounce can of tomato paste you know right here on well your world folks the last thing to add would be the flavor we've got to add some seasoning blend to this to give it its own unique taste you could use your favorite no salt seasonings we've got three that would be awesome for this the voodoo zesty is like General no salt tons of Veggie flavor same with the Galaxy dust would be really good in this whatever you like change it up from time to time you could do an Italian version we're kind of using a homemade Burberry spice blend okay so let me tell you what's going in of course garlic powder that goes in regardless garlic powder get in the pot then I've got some paprika and some chili powder it doesn't matter whether it's the smoked or the sweet paprika whichever of the two you like the flavor of the most do that then we have some ground ginger and some ground fenugreek seed then we have a little bit of cardamom notice there's a lot less cardamom than this cumin over here because cardamom has a pretty strong flavor so just a little bit of that and a couple teaspoons worth of cumin and then we have some coriander here and some ground cloves just a little bit again close real strong so you want so that like I said all the amounts are down below in the blog post or in our YouTube cookbook okay that's it we are ready to go to the stove shall we Reeves now you just got to add your liquid to cook everything up you could do veggie stock you could do water we're doing water I've got a whole Kettle here and I'm just gonna wing it you're cooking the lentils so you can always add more water as it Cooks if it looks like you don't have enough but it's probably going to be like 10 cups of water the nice thing about the kettle is you can add it already boiling that'll save you a little bit on heat up time because this is a big monster pot of stew I'm going high let's give it a nice big stir and get it cooking obviously if you were adding those canned lentils you would need much less water than what I just added notice I didn't add any salt to this dish and when I was talking about those canned lentils I also said to try to find them without the salt and that's because there is so much salt in prepared foods it is a big problem in my opinion it causes your blood pressure to go up and it can also cause you to eat more than you otherwise would have so be careful with adding tons of salt to things from products that you don't really understand the salt content of it's okay to add a little bit of salt to your food the salt shaker is a lot better actually than relying on other people via canned foods to Salt your food so be conscious of the salt it is crazy out there same with the oil we didn't add any oil to this soup oil would add some fatty flavor but there are lots of other ways that you could add fat to things I'm not going to do it today but with whole food ingredients like nuts and seeds avocado tofu things like that that can add some fat to things instead of the oil which clogs your arteries we've brought this back up to a boil so now it's time to just turn the heat to medium and let this thing simmer until your lentils are nice and tender it smells super delish [Music] get it this is looking really good let's have a taste what do you think reads it's already tasting I am ready to eat this stew now that is beautiful that is a stew nice is it a stoop no this is definitely full stew it's looking hot hmm oh the flavor is so good oh my God it's good we got to make this more often I kind of forgot about this recipe and so I'm really glad that you brought it back to the the front of mine I love getting my greens cooked I know less of a salad person it's not like an anti-salid but if you're going to cook those greens I'm for sure gonna get on top of that you've got to come taste this okay cool it up for me a little is that a little too hot yeah it's too hot to even hold you said that it has cooled off and I wonder hot oh those lentils and that squash and spinach that's like the perfect trifecta of delicious I love lentils perfect recipe I know you guys have the ingredients to
