Special Visit To The Incredible 16 to 1 Mine: Part 4 - Tramming Into The 800 Level

so this is the back side of the workshop at the main 1601 mine quartel now see I've got a tram are there and coming into workshop here and again those of you that have seen my other video mister after amount of time poking around in here so I won't spend too much time now but for those of you that haven't seen this before this is current workshop this is 800 level you can see there and these are all different levels to have you get a sense of how BIG's mine is this is the badge in badge out board and a real quick look inside here we're heading the grounds you never know when mines gonna shut down or what happened so I want to document everything that's here because somebody may appreciate it in the future lots and lots of stuff in here as you can see now the tremor that thing's seen right here 16 in one thing we're gonna look [Applause] where did this come from this was off the 600 foot level huh and they were working there a while ago and I was fortunate enough to be part of the crew that had to go recover it cool so we used it under its own power really pull itself out Wow and then we brought it down drop it down the stove it's all right better like yeah we drop it down the stove off the 600 level yeah I could show you where it was that and we were actually gonna put it to work elsewhere in a mine but it needs it got new brake shoes for the brakes actually control the opposing drums one's going out no one's coming in aren't you so we've got new shoes that it has an oil leak between the air motor and this one here has one two three four five and it's a 5 cylinder rotary air motor right there like joy and yeah that's a big one yeah that's like common tire that came out and we were say we were starting to rehab it and then we got sidetracked so it's but it's here it's out it's not sitting on 600 thing another room in the workshop some of those bits you definitely seen better days and this is looking out the front those of you that saw the last video certainly recognize the scene and main portal right there the last time I was here I'm going to trudge back into the inner workings on foot but this time this time we're going to the style that's right right on the train all right so this is a awesome map of the underground workings the 16 to 1 and this was produced in 1957 and the current main portal is not in existence then as you were just explaining that's yeah that's what we're doing now here it is it's gonna be so we're going in that way into the old workings hit the old workings where where his finger is gonna go into the 49 8800 station 4900 station it's gonna take you down to the 1700 foot level which has been rehabbed the water level is at the 19th and go over to the tightener and we'll show you the pump nice then we'll come back up to the 13 and we'll go from the 13 through the ballroom everybody hears about and then we can take the thousand foot level across the tightener and we got a train today and we can go all the way out to the north end to the 1076 or we're actively mining ice and rock looking for gold outstanding well but there is the 16 to 1 and we have took you in the shop portal here with the steel door and the iron date here there's the Y and there's the top of that shaft perfect I'm so glad you mention that now yes I don't yeah they're tied together here the workings are caved in about 200 feet down ok in in in elsewhere the whole shaft is caved in to multiple places to that right here you took a peek many years ago you can go look at the shaft right there gotcha ok and so how far in do you think it was caper we had where we stopped 200 feet so right below these workings now I'm saying on the audit that we were following right here ok that's it and we think that's why because anytime you have an inner section you have we cry so the idea was to follow it down into these old Stokes right here gotcha okay there was a lot of gold come out in here then it actually goes into some even older workings on another level back here huh and what was that eighteen or sixteen thousand ounces okay yeah yeah no one nobody's ever metal detective death and there are people that want to get in there I can't imagine we would love to get in there I can imagine though see here some of those I was mentioning and I don't have my glasses but see there's a 700 there's that four thousand or actually is a 4,800 I'm sorry right about the hoist the old waste room in the sixteen one on that main level forty eight hundred ounces say 774 Oh sixty-five 1274 eight you know four thousand as they were going down they were just yeah those numbers he's calling out her thousands and thousands he hides it's not dollars thousands and thousands of ounces yeah I'm he's saying a six sorry my sticks Alex tells yeah well we don't talk in ounces we talk in thousands here they seven fifteen thousand seven hundred ounces twelve thousand seven hundred ounces nineteen thousand twenty four thousand it goes on yeah now everything under all this is under water correct well we've had to pump failures so right now it is I think back at the nineteenth okay right here okay we were still shooting for but we know there's gold down there yeah he said nobody's been down there down here nobody's actually been to the bottom of the mine since 1930 yeah that was it that was it okay okay can only imagine what might be down there the majority of the tightener this was punched in before actually I think it yeah Brown 1930 they had actually finished this they went gangbusters on this on this shaft ah so but they'd actually access it through a crosscut that went up and then the guys would go through the crosscut and over to the hoisting works in hoisting were caught on fire in 1954 and then they used it as a utility shaft because they couldn't hoist men anymore so then they were just using to skip an equipment up and down then it got even worse and then apparently they had a cave-in somewhere and they actually ran the cable through the cave-in mahalo they were still running the Skip but they couldn't come to the surface anymore or not so much the surface you were still underground that couldn't come up to the top so they were limited on where they would be able to hoisting up and down on the mine in Boise teamworks are still there and nobody's ever been there you can't get there mom can't get there from here it's kind of sad everybody's tried and it's just gotten worse and worse worse than old cabins up there Wow it's too bad the caves huh yeah so let's browse in and get him awesome yeah huh appreciate your artwork there it's uh that was uh that was Zach yeah yeah that's pretty cool yeah our video game player you did that with some talent so there we are badged in and we're gonna head in the ground and style they are built one reference yes your visit to the air compressor in the borehole yes is this it right here okay chop it down from or power remember I showed you the borehole of the power yeah see the powered work coming down right here yes right next to it there's a second for hole for the air so you are directly below that air compressor building and the power building that I showed you earlier that's amazin kind of mind-boggling yeah yeah so you're like well we've been relation to where you were out on the mountain now you know where you're at yeah yeah that's amazing okay so directly how to use our transformer station naked hearing buzzing lights the head that's under there was over four thousand volts coming down the hall break-in horse four thousand volts 4:18 not 120 not 244 fellas when they ran that moist valley price dropped it down to 2,000 160 volts and brought it down Wow oh all right [Music] [Music] here 800 station 800 station I have indeed but not like this yeah I guess so when you were here last thanks for coming back again we had the gate down only for safety reasons okay and behind the gate this was our lumber yard still lives are a lumber yard the stage all of our lumber for rehab and the winds were taking anything down to lower levels that was all this was your that's actually a dam and you know I had mentioned the tailings earlier yes it's full of tailings Wow yeah so lumberyard and we ready everything over drop it on this is that's a 10-foot skip ten-foot skip okay and we were home 20 footers down so do the math it can't be being hanging out the end um yeah and then trying to wrestle a 16 2014 with a couple guys that was it was an either say it was a challenge and it was interesting so it's a different medication put um you I don't know if you got to see the skip right I climb that ladder right doing it okay that's not a voiced operator go to work every day right near pillar this way yeah technically correct it went to the 2400 foot level and it was through a series of bells there were old forms on each station then they could bring the skip to the station and we are rehabbed to the 17 right now very interesting so it's all you already you can go up stairs and the good thing is cool thing you can see the skip and the skip I'm gonna come behind you and show you the dumb pocket up there that was that was the not only that was hauling ore but people so there's a safety cage on there when you look at it there's safety cubes you flip down on the top to cover their heads from any thing that we're gonna maybe fall down the hole so there as well just came up and walked right there there's the skip that's cool skip obviously I've seen that before there's looking down on skip and give termites there yeah see the ankle of the rail yes your skip wheels are staggered the front wheels are narrow so the front of the Skip comes into the pocket and if you look at the skip you can see there's a little flange sticking out the back right there you can see it yeah that catches this i-beam and like channel air in the back of the Skip goes up so now you get this action where the car is going up and the hoist operator without seeing it based on his gauge up there dumps the car into that shoes in that chute yeah you can see it in that chute there's a selector so look straight it down in there okay you could go waste or or so based on what he was hauling the operator come down throw the door the other side okay it sees the selector yeah so you'd manually flip the door over and then if he's holding or and it's going on one side the other so there are two pockets down there those chutes that we're gonna see here in a bit or you've seen before there's two more chutes on that level in fact could probably be a good idea just to show everybody yeah the chutes on the other side kind of head down so they need to go or or waste and then they'd hold it out with those two tonne cars right there so in the oyster operator sat up above us and it was all based on his dial gauge and bell signals the dial gauge did give me indication of where the skip was at and the bell signals as to what needed to be done with the Skip right and right here you can see the mess oh boy yeah yeah that was kind of you could walked right up there you're literally not five feet from it right there awhile yeah does it give you looking down where they just came up now check out some more good stuff and that's where the main perlers world came in and now we're jumping off on the left branch here there was a pin board for Tally's sure every pin might represent five or ten loads or load guns at home you're just moving down yes you're looking down get center right there there goes on scenario okay no more that's seven mom you just being after looking at the shooter so they blast it out on one side bless the tripod so the selector yeah yeah okay so this is one is it or yeah and one of these is waste rock and I do believe based on the ports Jess alright there's more here yeah okay and the operators and right here and either open it blows the door and that's when I saw my sign do not interrupt the operator no do not speed operator will operate because he's over on a car and and hang mucking apartment lows back in there so they take the two-ton cars back them up just around the corner just about as far as they go that big locomotive all right and then they pull them out gotcha all right so we're back at the 49 thinks that skip car right there and we're going down to point out that will the department work right there I already October 2017 helloween oh I missed that that's funny so we're dropping down there and then we're gonna drop stairs yep drop down stairs
