Sony Aibo a $3000 Robot Dog. Comprehensive Review.

this cute robotic dog by Sony has 22 joints giving him realistic doggie like movements he can sense his environment using an array of microphones sensors and two cameras one hidden in his nose and the other is on his well you see where it is he can express his emotions through adorable eyes that are tiny screens he has a secret compartment on his belly for a SIM card to connect to Sony's secret digital doggie cloud server but this is not your average robotic dog that obeys your every command he has feelings instincts he makes his own decisions and as long as he follows the Three Laws of Robotics you should have a cute little companion for years now Sonia's only let me doggy sit for a week so let's get started say hello to Ivo well here it is this is Sony's AIBO it is the world's most advanced robotic dog companion thing it's also probably the most expensive this thing comes in at about $2,900 that is pretty steep so this thing is really for tech enthusiasts for people that got some money maybe they're super fans this thing actually came out back in the late 90s and it's got kind of a cult following it's a super super fun thing I know me when I first saw him in the 90s I knew I had to have one but I think I was waiting tables at the time and there was no way I was gonna afford one of those and then back in 2006 they actually stopped production for a few years on the AIBO and I was super devastated because I knew I was never gonna get one so when I saw that Sony was releasing a new batch of I bows to the United States I was super excited I reached out to him and they were nice enough to let me doggy sit for a couple weeks and here we are we're gonna open this thing together AIBO comes in this big pill shaped container and let's see what we got oh there is look at that it's like a little doggie coffin he looks I mean he looks like he's sleeping in there but now if you do get your hands on one of these I would suggest keeping this cuz this looks like a really good way to transport this guy he's super cool I can't even begin to tell you guys like this is like a childhood dream come true well he's little he's limp that's kind of unsettling bad it's like oh it's like he's dead now to turn him on they said you lay him with all his feet facing forward like that and you push this button [Music] oh my [Music] he stretched stretch it out buddy stretch it out you've been in that box a long time he's up okay this is freaky this is honestly he's so realistic it's like he's alive you're opening your little mouth buddy you hear that look at this rubber tail well he's got like a rubber flexible tail he's super smooth he's looking at me quit looking at me that's creepy hey buddy what's up high five high five do you do that do you not do that high five [Music] how is he gonna do it Oh high five what's up did you see that I don't even know he could do that good job buddy I think you're supposed to praise him when he does something good oh he loves it oh look at his little eye he's actually even his head moves like a real dog when you pet him he has touch sensitive areas on his back on his head under his chin so he has four sit sit I'm trying to a review sit can you sit please this sit sit thank you all right so he has four microphones under his ears here so he can locate where the sounds coming from and he can look at you he knows where you're calling him from he has a camera on his nose that's really wide-angle I'll show you some of the picked I'm sorry I'll show you some of the pictures that this guy takes on his own as he wanders around the house pretty amazing he also has a slam camera on his backside here which you can't see out of that camera but it helps him position and map out your house so he knows where he's at in his environment pretty neat he's got range detectors and proximity sensors in the front here so he can tell if he's coming up onto a wall or coming to an edge so he doesn't walk off of stairs but for three grand I don't think I'd have him on a place where he could potentially walk off the stairs what are you doing buddy what are you doing you liked it huh you like that oh he likes it look at that you like it under here what about back here do a show him a trick this is actually the sixth generation of ipoed they've been making these for like 20 years isn't that insane that's why they're able to get such lifelike movement now they say that it takes three years for this to actually mature he can learn up to a hundred faces using a cloud server he connects to your Wi-Fi in your home but he also does have a place for a SIM card so we can connect free of charge to the LTE network where you going sit lay down lay down lay down i Bo lay down thank you what's up hey oh are you mad at me good boy good boy I like that trick when they do something you like you give them praise then they will remember your face and know that you like that trick so next time they see you they'll start doing feel bad when I turn off my robot vacuum but when I turn this guy off I feel super sad so enough in the studio let's get this guy in the house and let him run around have some fun let him explore see bone oh okay thank you thank you for bringing me the bone oh good job buddy that was really good you're such a smart robot dog so it's really cool there's also an app here and it tells me that he was born on June 6 and he's very shy right now that's why he doesn't listen all the time he's just a little shy it takes him a while to get used to you to learn their environment but you can go in here into characteristics and you can change the color of their eyes come back here you can change his voice and you can force him to do tricks with the app right here so we'll try that we'll try a couple tricks here from the app sit good boy good boy so let's do if you're happy and you know it you can say if you're happy and you know it or you can push this button and have him do it well we did a little handstand so that's pretty cool you can just make him do these tricks right in here snoot challenge it says make a circle with your hands and show it to I bow and he'll walk towards the circle let's see here's my circle okay I guess that's yeah you did it yay here's strike a pose let's see what he does cute hallelujah this thing is so much fun he is just really lifelike and realistic I could do this for hours watch this little guy do you want to play catch okay here you go yeah you got it throw it back yeah you see it can you kick it back to me yeah good job good job good boy you too big sit shake good boy Newtons a little bit smarter than I bow I'm gonna show you guys something real cool he can learn a trick so if you say learn this yeah you heard me I saw those ears perk up learn this so he's gonna put his paws up and want me to teach him a trick so you just grab his paws and then you can do these movements like this up down up down and then he'll learn that trick then you say show it to me there he goes he's doing what I had just taught him see that and then up down up down right oh that's so cool remember that trick don't forget and then if you tell him to not forget it'll learn that trick and save it in the app and you can give it a name and then you can tell him to do the trick it's so cool this guy's super advanced take a picture all right so you just took a picture you can also turn it on to where he takes pictures by himself so he'll run around the house and take pictures all day and you can turn them on Patrol mode which I'll have him go scan your house and look for people that he recognizes it really does a whole lot of stuff right now he is just a puppy so he doesn't do a lot of stuff but he will learn he'll get better with age he'll understand what you like what you don't like he's just a dog shake shake oh they're doing at the same time shake good boy robot dog and real dog shaking simultaneously it's never been done before good job shake good job buddy both of y'all did so good you both did so good now this is his charging pad and notice it has that same paint color on it because I Bo loves pink go to your mat [Music] what's going on can't get in your bed oh he's got it now boom good job buddy Oh stretch it out get comfortable you're gonna be there a while so he's able to get onto his own charging station so you're really supposed to leave I bow on all the time he'll learn where his charging stations at he'll take off he'll act like a regular dog he'll come back here and he'll take a nap charge himself up and then go run around your house again all right so it's late we've played with AIBO in the house we've done some tricks we've had some fun with him kind of see how he works he got on his charging station he's ray taking nap tomorrow we're gonna wake up and we're gonna take this guy over to Vanity Fair's in Jacksonville Florida he is our dog groomer he grooms Newton he does an amazing job he has an amazing business and we're gonna take him over there and see what he thinks about someone who deals with dogs every single day and see if he likes the AIBO all right good night oh yeah there you go get up buddy you want to go with a dog groomer yeah chip you want to go the dog groomer you want to go meet Jonathan look I got your little carrying bag ready you want to get in there and that is the best way to carry your robot dog good thing about having a robot dog is you can put them in the trunk and no one can say anything so Jonathan owns a dog grooming place here in Jacksonville Florida called vanity furs and honestly he does the best job I mean you saw Newton he keeps Newton looking so pretty I love Jonathan hopefully he loves this robot dog it's a rope robot dog can you handle that what can we do for him can we give him a little spit shine polish [Music] in Brenda she's like a real job [Music] you like in broome little spit and polish yeah clear up this camera in that crazy what do you think you deal with a lot of dogs here so I mean I think that what's the benefit of a robot dog is less for me less less poopoo no peepee he has a large initial cost but after that there's no cost dogs you got to keep paying for right forever I think they say like a dog cost like $30,000 by the end of the life of a dog I'm not sure so I BOS a bargain all right guys I'm gonna take him home I think he looks good and shiny alright just realized this video is over 20 minutes long I'm sorry it's so long but this guy just does so much he's so advanced I couldn't even squeeze everything into a
