[Music] [Applause] strong like a tree [Music] hope they won't shoot me down [Music] [Music] is there folks hope you're all doing well luke here with the outdoor grip review today for this adventure i am out for a stealth camp susie just dropped me off and i am hitting the trail now at the moment i have very loose plans they are very much fluid i'm not really sure where i'm going to camp at i do have a good idea of the direction that i'm going but i have no idea if it's going to work out or not we shall see now the name of this game is to not get caught while blending in with everybody else that is why i have a very light loadout 14 pounds food water gear clothing and all of that fits into my 24 liter day pack now at the moment i'm following this road here in a bit i will get off of this take a different trail hike just a little bit get off of that and go off trail for a bit and hopefully find a good place to camp tonight there's a beautiful lake over here it's gorgeous but it is way too busy it's way too popular to stay at if it was later i might be able to get away with it but as is it's about 4 30. it's time for people to come out here and hike and walk you might be able to hear it all the traffic that's because there is a very busy road right next to me tonight we should be able to get away from it tomorrow we will be next to it for many many miles i love stealth camp adventures it really gets my heart going it's all about the game it's all about not getting caught while being out around other people it takes work but it can be done you have to do it smartly and in previous stealth camp adventures i talked about the rules the rules are so important you want to go out not get caught not get in trouble follow the rules and speaking of the rules i will share all of this with you later on but for now let's walk and let's walk fast let's get away from people and cars all the things that are stressing me out right now now with this trip there's a lot of things that i can't plan for such as the conditions off trail i'm hoping that the fields aren't overgrown so i can hike them if they are well my plans change substantially that means we would have to go to plan b and at the moment i don't have a plan b and sometimes that's how it goes if i was going to encounter someone today it would be up here more than likely there's chances for it to happen anywhere but especially up here so i'm going to slow my pace instead of walking with a purpose i'm going to walk like i'm out for a stroll growing up my grandfather who is not a very pleasant man he taught me to walk with a purpose that time was very important and that's one reason why i walk fast i hike fast and i don't like to waste time this is an awesome fishing spot and in truth i could probably camp here my shelter without a doubt would fit right over here perfectly i could probably get away with it but not going to as i mentioned before this is a busy place but check this out this is definitely a stealth campsite [Music] moving away from the lake now on a road next to another road encountering people on this is unlikely but still possible so i'm picking up my pace just a little bit just to give some distance between me and lake you can see all the traffic there when i'm out for a trip a stealth camping trip it's all about minimal amount of encounters with other people in other words out of sight out of mind so far i've done a pretty good job of this over here is where i need to go and the question is how do i get over this easily hmm this fence is way too flimsy to climb over so i'm going to walk around find another solution i'm not even going to take a chance on that old fence i can go this way all right step one done [Applause] right now i am the most exposed that i will be for this trip and now i'm good no one is going to see us here tell you what since i've made it this far i'm gonna stop and take a break here i need to take a break cool off and dry off a little bit this spot is incredibly beautiful now when it comes to water this one liter is what i have and that's it i need to make this last until tomorrow tomorrow i can refill i have a filter bottle with the maps that i've looked at i've seen no water sources in this area so it is what it is i could have filled up at the lake but i shouldn't need much more than this i need to come up with a game plan here about where i'm going to camp at i'm glad that i walked up here because i do have a good view of the entire area because as i was coming up i was thinking maybe i could go in this corner and back but i could see that you can't go back there's a fence there i could always hop over it and i might but what i'm curious about is this hill right here i could see some big rocks up there and i wonder if i can't go behind that if i can go behind it i will have a good vantage point from all the way around me and also i should be shielded from prying eyes just in case someone is out here going up up and up and i'm going up quickly too i don't want to be seen by that ridge over there there is a trail up there on that ridge it's very popular i just saw somebody walking it somebody in a red jacket i could make out the color and that's about it i could see that it was moving that is why when you go stealth camping you have to wear dark neutral colors that blend in black blends in brown blends in red does not and that is one of the rules wow this is awesome i don't know why i just whispered but it is the thing is right now there's quite a bit of traffic noise and there's not much i could do about that it will die down later on tonight but for the next couple of hours it will be loud so folks this is what i'm thinking as far as my campsite in fact this will work perfectly now i can actually see two people hiking over there on the trail now the good thing is is that they cannot see me and that's because of this this gigantic briar thicket this will work perfectly i can set up my tent here they will never see it because it's so low to the ground it's a very low profile tent which i happen to like quite a bit it's not perfect but yeah it's pretty sweet in a few ways right over there is that trail and it goes behind this mountain way way way up there and around all right folks i have to tell you something this is pretty funny the second i turn the camera off a guy walks out of the woods hops over the fence and walks down here into the valley and has disappeared you can't make that up it's so weird i waved at him asked him how he's doing said he's good and he says that he hopes it doesn't rain and i'm hoping for the same thing i don't want it to rain either speaking of which it is supposed to rain tomorrow this is the one dry day to come out to do this trip and uh the thing is i could do this in the rain but i simply don't want any more wet stuff at the house at least for a week or two i don't know if susan could take any more wet tents strong everywhere there's wet tents wet tarps there's stuff all over that house i tell ya her patience is amazing susie i love you thank you so i have this one dry day dry night tomorrow dry but it's gonna start raining at some point in time so hopefully later rather than sooner [Music] that is one reason why you don't set up your tent as soon as you get to a place that you're going to camp at when you're stealth camping you set up your tent right before dark don't waste your time and set it up before then if that guy walked out of the woods saw the tent he would automatically have known what i was doing it looks like i'm out taking some pictures small backpack day pack that's it you have to be smart when it comes to stealth camping fall has arrived here at the mountains right now it is about 57 degrees tonight it'll be in the 40s and the winds are supposed to be around 5 to 15. so folks i pulled up gaia gps here to look for some water sources in this area and i believe i have found one across the way here i don't know if i can actually get to it or not but it looks like the head of the spring is right over here let's go see if we can actually get to it you can see it there as i'm hiking down from that hill i would be exposed if i was out in the open but luckily i have this big tree here which will pretty much shadow me from all other eyes there's a family or something in the woods i can hear their voices i can hear talking they are really close there's right over there in the woods somewhere so the water's right down there but there's people right up there so it's good to know that i have water if and when i need it gaia gps it's an awesome program now this is funny folks i just climbed to the top of this mountain right back to where i will set up camp this is the place to be because as soon as i got to the top a young couple crested the hill and walked down below that's so funny they had no idea that i was up here and that almost makes it creepy to wait on it might as well get dinner going before it gets dark because once the sun goes down i'm turning in now for dinner i have a meal here from a company i've never heard of but it sounds very interesting wild boar bacon bean stew and it's from a company called stowaway gourmet who knows folks i mean it sounds good we'll see if it is good while i wait on the water to warm up let's try some of this spread a uh viewer sent this to me and the only thing that i can read on it is that it has water pork pork fatty tissue sodium salt blah blah blah blah so let's see what this stuff is like hmm smells good smells really good in fact let's see how this is everyone it looks bizarre it looks really bizarre it smells good that is really really interesting this is going to sound really weird but this tastes like something it tastes like kentucky fried chicken like the skin that's a good thing because the skin's the best part but absolutely strange but it's good and this comes from croatia should this taste like kfc i don't know let's don't think about it too much shall we let's just eat it it's funny folks the weather for today was supposed to be sunny and clear and as of right now it's not clear and in fact the fog is rolling in it's possible that by morning we will be engulfed in fog the meal is almost reconstituted it says this is from tillamook oregon that's where the company's from stowaway gourmet are any of you familiar with tillamook oregon i'm probably saying that wrong but they have all sorts of interesting meals and i ordered a handful to see if they're any good i want to say that i have a bison bean stew as well from them but yeah we'll see here in a minute how good it is this stuff freaking awesome it's delicious it really is i did add just a little bit extra water to this that way i could just drink it right from the bag that is really good i mean it is really really good it's not what i expected i'm going to let this sit for a few minutes longer wait 10 minutes at sea level so we're about 5 000 feet so i need to wait just a little bit longer but that is awesome so check out the ingredients here great northern beans bore bacon wild boar meat from feral swine cured with salt water dextrose blah blah blah blah spices celery mushroom onions brandy extra virgin olive oil tomato paste garlic smoked water sea salt and spices i'm impressed i want to say it was expensive but this is at least two levels higher than say mountain house or something like that tomorrow i am going to get up around five o'clock in the morning get up when it's still dark break down camp and start heading out of here i have numerous ridges that i need to cross to get out of this area and back onto a trail most of the hiking is going to be very pleasant out in the woods but there is one section where i have to walk alongside of a road that i'm not looking forward to my plans for this trip really is short and sweet this is an in and out stealth camp adventure and that is something that you need to keep in mind when it comes to stealth camping you need to move and when you move you do so at dawn or at dusk that's why i came out here so late in the afternoon that is one of the rules when it comes to stealth camping you don't come out in the middle of the day and sit in one spot for hours and hours and hours as people go by wondering what are you doing also you don't set yourself up in a place where you can be easily seen you need to think about vantage points you need to think about where people may be at and the angles that they can see maybe there's a trail below you can they see up maybe if they're on a ridge over here can they see you you need to think about things like that also when it comes to your shelter system it needs to be earth tones it needs to blend in with the environment and with my shelter it certainly does one of my most important rules is that you never have a fire you never have a fire when you're stealth camping now of course you could do it you want to but i don't recommend it if you want to be found start yourself a fire smoke travels and fires can be seen it's a light source i don't know if you all can see them but those two deer have come over to see what i'm doing there's one right over here and one over here [Music] so this as you all can see i have camp basically set up now and that's because it's getting dark it's taken me about 10 minutes to set this up i didn't bring any stakes or no guy lines but i did have some cordage with me which i always have with me and i will explain what i have going on here because it does look crazy but there is a method to my madness i'm taking my quilt here cinching up the foot box basically doing all the adjustments now because when you're inside of this you're not going to adjust anything because it is so small and tight that's the inside of the shelter this is a very rare military product from carthenia eberle stock has a licensed version of it a re-label called the i think it's the micro bivvy think of a gore-tex jacket which cost 400 bucks now imagine enough gore-tex to make an entire tent you can see why it's so expensive so now i want to explain the green cordage this is my emergency cordage i always keep this with me so i've made my own stakes and my own guidelines now i should say guy line because it's just one long string with my emergency cordage i never cut it unless i absolutely have to since it's an emergency piece of kit so i started here at the top tied it pulled it back to get some tension on the roof tied it off ran the line all the way over here to this stake to this top back to the stake to this corner over here to this corner this sounds complicated and in truth it's very simple it looks awful but that doesn't matter not at all it is definitely time for bed it is now 8 o'clock one more look around here i can see a few lights way off in the distance miles and miles and miles away the road is quieting down and i think i'm in store for a good night that's about as much light as i feel comfortable using well as you all could see this is very tight quarters in here it's like sleeping in a coffin which isn't bad you know what i mean i'm sure you know as far as my plan goes get up at 5 00 a.m have coffee have breakfast and start hiking out of here i have about 10 miles to hike before i meet susie on the side of the road i say good night for now i'll bring you all back if anything interesting happens otherwise i will see you all at 5 30 in the morning good night everybody it is almost 12 o'clock and i have an update for you all it is now raining outside the one thing that i was trying to avoid it's doing that's incredibly funny i'm just up here in the clouds it's just kind of misting raining right now it will be interesting to see how much rain falls tonight there's absolutely nothing on the radar but it is raining also it's getting rather windy outside at times the gusts have been rather strong i went ahead got up and i took out one of the vestibule posts down by my feet and i left this side open hopefully i can stay dry enjoy the airflow and i don't have to seal this thing up i can't believe it's raining god that's funny goodnight [Music] [Applause] [Music] no man good morning everybody it is 5 a.m and as you can hear it is raining my plan was to get up at five o'clock have coffee have breakfast start hiking but since it's raining am i going to do that let's take a look outside so what it is is that i'm just up in the clouds right now yeah it's just a heavy heavy fog i think i'm going to wait just a little bit maybe in a few hours this will lighten up i doubt things are going to change in an hour but i'll set an alarm for six i'll bring you all back in an hour still raining still heavy clouds and fog i checked the weather around 5am the same weather that said there was no chance of rain but um it says that this will move out by 8 a.m hiking in the dark is one thing hiking in the dark and in the clouds is something else so yeah the plan is to wait and just make up the miles go faster when the time comes good morning everybody it's about 7 30 and it's now light enough to get up and get out without a doubt it is a wet morning it doesn't seem as heavy as it was around five o'clock so that's good i'll tell you what folks i'm not going to talk much i am so cramped inside of this thing it's fine to sleep in but not much else there's just not much space and that's the biggest con to it even putting your jacket on inside of this requires you to become creative you have to roll around do weird things this is a european military product and obviously europeans are smaller because this is a very small shelter very small i'm not a big guy by any means but this is too small for me it's now time for the most important part of any day every day coffee temperature wise it's not that bad about 50 degrees maybe maybe in the upper 40s now i'm using some solid fuel some hexamine smells like shrimp and i'm using that in conjunction with the swiss military stove the stand i don't think i've discussed with you all the rain system that's coming in that is hurricane sally or the remnants of hurricane sally the timing of this storm has really been up in the air nobody knows exactly when it's coming in sooner or later whatever all that i know it's on its way and getting out of here before it gets real wet is important i already have wet tents all over the house and it looks like i will have one more it is time to pack up and get out of here all right everyone it is time to get going the pack is lighter smaller let's do this i tell you this is such a cool place it really is i love it line of sight navigation is impossible so i'm having to rely on gaia gps to get me across these ridges and off of this bald visibility is very limited i can make out tree tops and that's about it okay so it looks like it goes off this way and also this way i'm not sure where that goes let's take a look i can get where i need to go by going over there or i can go this way and it looks like there's a road that i can hop on i think that's what i'll do unless you're someone who is good with navigation reading maps and whatnot i don't recommend hiking around in the fog in unfamiliar places you can easily find yourself in trouble in no time this will be by far the hardest part of the day once i get up onto the road i'll hit a trail eventually then it's all downhill from there looks like there's somewhat of a road right here this used to be an old farm road now it's just a cattle trail i think i'll follow it let's see where it goes hi sweet girl hello over one ridge down another keep on going just hanging out with the cows here hi sweet girl permission to pass i don't want to bug you have yourself a good day cows are very sweet creatures it's okay little one you are beautiful i love the big black nose and the circles under the eyes are you coming to say hi come here she didn't want to be petted but she came running that's funny over here is the road all i have to do is figure out how to get to it and hop this fence no can't do it there but i can do it right here [Applause] i'm in roughly three miles out of the tennis that i need to do as soon as i got off the fields onto the road that is a popular hiking spot let me tell you it's busy a bunch of people with the exact same idea as me kind of out for a hike in the fog honestly i'm glad to be away from all of that all by myself lone wolf style that's how i like it as soon as i can i will stop get some water i'm definitely thirsty there should be a minor spring or little creek up here maybe a mile or two away according to the map as i'm hiking along here i figured i would tell you all a little bit about myself some things that maybe some of you may not know people ask all the time what i do for a living i used to do web development quite a bit but i've moved over more to the admin side which gives me a lot more time to do what i need to do with the outdoor group review and to supplement that income i do freelance graphic artwork and photography and stuff like that i've been selling photos and whatnot for years here on the channel i really don't talk too much about photography and that's because there simply isn't room for it on this channel i can sit here all day long and tell you what would make a good picture but that's not what this channel is about i could also talk about cameras all day long completely geek out on it but i'm not going to i will spare you here's a few examples of my work over the years [Music] so you can see there with my work that i like to take a very dark sort of surreal approach to it this is nasty and for me personally that's what i look for in a good picture anybody can take a picture of this right but you can see this with your naked eye i want to see something that's different i want to see something that takes me to a different place i know that sounds weird but maybe you understand what i mean it sounds like i'm killing some sort of animal with every sip as far as the fog goes it is beginning to lift the weather said lifting at eight it's ten o'clock the weather also says there will be about an hour of sun before the rain starts before i wrap up this trip let's talk gear for a second the micro bivvy very interesting product made for a good shelter there's not much space i'm a side sleeper and my shoulders were touching the roof made from gore-tex very breathable no condensation issues even in the rain i keep that shelter because it's so unique it's so different but it's not a good shelter for most people it's pretty awful i was using a quilt from a chinese company called one wind it's a summer quilt this morning it dipped into the 40s and i stayed warm i'm impressed with it especially for 60 70 bucks the m71 little stand did great that's the stove the backpack is from gregory 24 liters holds all of my gear and there's space left over my sleeping pad is yeah what is that called it's a nemo something i can't remember i'll flash that on the screen for you it's not a full pad it's about a half pad and i brought that with me so i could go as lightweight as possible [Applause] i was just thinking there folks another rule when it comes to stealth camping is that you have to be prepared to alter your plans at a moment's notice my plan was to get up this morning at five o'clock that did not work out it was way too foggy to go hiking around in some strange place and because there's such a high level of unknown when it comes to stealth camping that's why that is one of the most important rules you never know how the weather conditions are going to change or if there's weird people in the woods that's so funny update time roughly seven and a half miles in rocking and rolling doing over three miles an hour still cloudy not really foggy you can hear the blue jays they are ticked that i'm down here for the most part i'm just hiking the green tunnel i have another four miles to go something like that and then we'll meet susie i tell you everyone this really has been a fun trip i love stealth camping hiding in plain sight sort of thing if you were to ask me what my favorite part of the trip was the location insanely beautiful having the fog and the rain come in that's pretty cool too that little cow who is interested in me is probably my favorite part i talked sweet to it turned around walked off i hear stomp stop stomp look back it's right behind me that's funny [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] all right everyone i've made it made it to the meeting point susie is on the way and should be here any minute this was an awesome trip well everyone the adventure has come to an end that was awesome make sure to comment down below share your thoughts about this trip what was your favorite part i know what mine was hi susie hi bye susie bye goodbye everybody strength and honor see ya [Music] now [Music] you
