communion of the holy spirit be with you all and with your spirit brothers and sisters i'm so glad more people are here to celebrate the solemnity of mary the holy mother of god this year than last welcome to all those who are watching us on youtube and facebook for better or worse we will certainly not forget the year 2021 that is passing now by the hours when the pandemic sop was first imposed on us in march last year 2020 we took it seriously we were fresh hopeful thinking that by the end of 2020 it would be all over then the pandemic god was dragged on into this year this year when we are told that the vaccine will end the pandemic we took our first dose the second dose then the third don't know how many more doses to come the pandemic is here and another spike of imperfections is building up right now we are weary fatigued tired with little optimism of getting out of the woods soon but every year at this time when we look back at the year and look ahead to another we are told to turn to mary the mother of jesus the holy mother of god and our own mother every child will find comfort and security in the caring arms of its loving mother who is not just any mother but the mother of god and the mother of all the living that's what we are going to do tonight we turn to mary seek intercession seek the intercession of the mother of our god and our own mother and we dare to begin this eucharist by acknowledging and confessing our real sins i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i've done and in what i failed to do through my fault through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen [Music] me [Music] glory to god in the [Music] we highers you we glorify you letter of sin paul to the galatians when the appointed time came god sent his son born of a woman born a subject of the law to redeem the subjects of the law and to enable us to be adopted as sons the proof that you are sons is that god has sent the spirit of his son into our hearts the spirit that cries abba father and it is this that makes you a son [Music] you are not a slave anymore and if god has made you son then he has made you air the word of the lord thanks be to god please stand here at various times in the past and in various different ways god spoke to our ancestors through the prophets but in our own time the last days he has spoken to us through his son [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord the shepherds hurried away to bethlehem and found mary and joseph and the baby lying in the manger when they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds had to say as for mary she treasured all of these things and pondered them in her heart and the shepherds went back glorifying and praising god for all they had heard and sinned it was exactly as they had been told when the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised they gave him the name jesus the name the angel had given him before his conception the gospel of the lord press to you lord jesus christ brothers and sisters who share the same time the space with me may the lord bless you and keep you may the lord at his face shine on you and be gracious to you [Music] may the lord uncover his face to you and bring you peace the third line and climax in the blessing of aaron is that god may uncover his face to us and bring us peace in other words if only we can see the true face of god we will have peace on this fist of mary the holy mother of god we are to learn from mary to see and recognize the face of god and see his hand at work in all the events of our life no matter how dark they may seem and find peace the image given to us for our reflection today is in the animal shed at bethlehem just hours after jesus's birth the shepherds have arrived and in at the scene excited repeating how amazed they are to find mary and joseph and the baby lying in the manger exactly as the angel told them on how to find and recognize the new born savior mary sees and meets the shepherds she hears the astounding story it is exactly what god through the angel had told them just as the angel gabriel had told her to mary does not utter a single word but she treasures all these things and ponders them in her heart she sees the face of god and recognizes hen on all these events and treasures them all in her heart concerning her child her motherly role the salvation of the world she gains peace and she continues to love many more bewildering and troubling things will still come the visit of the three wise men the presentation at the temple the flight to egypt to escape harold's murderous intent to return to nazareth the finding of the child jesus in the temple the public ministry of jesus and finally his suffering and murder but may remains the true mother of god by faithfully treasuring and pondering and all these things in her heart to ponder and treasure the events of the past is important for our peace in the present and the future for it is in prayerful reflection that we recognize the hand of god at work even when things look dark and we can't see his face and so find peace with mary the mother of god and our mother we want to end the year 2021 and begin the new year 2022 so that with her we too may see the face of god and have peace especially in this stressful time of the pandemic and so as we look at this passing year and transit to 2022 with mary what is the angel of god and mary saying to us if we too would ponder and treasure all these things as the pandemic gets worse and verism have we also begun to lose the marvelous treasure of god's faithful love by not spending time in quiet and prayer to ponder on these things have we lost the wonder the power the magic of pure love pure goodness care for others optimism and hope especially when we ourselves are bewildered and are suffering a friend sent me a video clip this afternoon when you see people singing a version of o langsaii for the panemic and sung impure smiling faces saying that you are not alone we are with you and together we will see this through it's amazing how uplifting and powerful such little pure act of goodness and care is have we lost that wonder will we ponder and treasure all these things in the coming new year or have we started falling and descending to self-centeredness thinking more and more only of our own deprivations and inconveniences and blaming people a friend of mine wrote me a few days ago and spoke about people in the rich and developed countries that have already grabbed more than enough of the vaccines but are only engaged in fighting about taking or not taking the jab while in the poor countries one like bolivia where my friend used to work for many years there is no money to buy vaccine only to worry about food on the table what has been our attitude in keeping the sop imposed for the common health and good of all have we been looking for shortcuts and bypasses have you taken the confinement to the house social distancing as an excuse to isolate ourselves deliberately rather than see it as a precious opportunity to recognize the critical importance of personal relationship and intimacy grow that in our heart now and put it into practice as soon as the pandemic is over have we put on the mask to deliberately hide our anger and disdain rather than as an act of love and care to prevent infecting others maybe ponder and treasure all these things in our heart with mother mary may the lord bless you and keep you may the lord let his face shine on you and be gracious to you may the lord uncover his space to you and bring you peace a blessed and peaceful new year 2020 let us stand and we profess the apostles creed i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen we may be as our example on this festival of hers mother of god we pray to god for our needs and the needs of the world our response is lord fill us with your love lord fill us with your love mary is the instrument of god's blessing on all the people of the earth may we learn from her example discerning what god wants for us by lives of gentleness prayer and service we pray to the lord lord fill us with your love may we be aware of god's blessings in our lives and with mary as our mother thank god for the gift of the son born at the appointed time to be our savior and our brother we pray to the lord lord fill us with your love the shepherds rejoiced at the birth of the savior and praised god for what happened at bethlehem may we too be filled with joy that god chooses those whom society rejects to be the bearers of good news we pray to the lord lord fill us with your love mary said yes to god when the angel asked her to be the mother of the messiah may we be open to god's promptings in life treasuring them in our hearts and discerning their purpose for our lives we pray to the lord lord fill us with your love that the new year will bring genuine peace and goodwill among people of every creed class and color we pray to the lord lord fill us with your love especially in this time of the pandemic let's turn to the mother of god and our own mother that she will bring all her children in the whole world together whether they are christians or not and that she will reach the world of all the conflicts all the suppression all those greed and that there may be peace even in this pandemic we now turn to our mother ask her to teach us through this new year to always treasure and ponder on all these things shall mary full of grace the lord is with thee blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb jesus holy mary mother of god pray for us sinners now and that we are found dead amen this species going on pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good and the good of all his holy church o god who in your kindness your resurrection and until you come again therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray the partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and john our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles saint simon the zealot and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be cohased to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and saved from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in
