I was at the show they did that night. And they got the audience of ~1800 to do 3 against 4 well. It's was an incredible thing to behold

Not sure if it's just me, but I haven't been getting the same feeling from Snarky Puppy since We Like It Here. With Culcha Vulcha and Immigrance, especially, I wound up just feeling bored. That's not a judgment on the band, I'm just responding differently to their newer albums. I don't feel the same sense of energy.

[Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] hey everybody how you doing tiny deaths which sake puppy were so happy to be here for the first time as a band I think like everyone else who plays here we've seen a million of the episodes of this wonderful series and we're very proud or honored to be here one thing I would like to do first I thought was a song called tor OVA that was Chris Bolek on the saxophone J Jennings on the trumpet Nate Werth unprofessional Bobby sparks on keyboards Shawn Martin on keyboards all those people so look that's the right thing to do right with jazz you're supposed to say who's soloed in case anyone is confused that there were solos going on so one thing I want to do because I played tiny just last year with somebody else and and for those of you who are watching probably the majority of the people who will see this for people watching you don't know what's going on over there and to my knowledge every person here either works at NPR works in this officer is an intern here is that right and today mostly and friends and rank and today I believe that there's an abundance of interns is that correct so right that's right right so what I want to do is I want to turn the cameras around for a minute and and force you into into a musical experiment a rhythmic experiment okay is that Alright no pressure yeah because every week you get to look at us you know no not today not today so from this side of the pillar over here you're gonna be the three side this side of the pillar you're gonna be the four side we're going to do a polyrhythm because snarky puppy things have to get nerdy and unenjoyable that's the that's our method so three side you're going to do this one two three one two three the four side you're gonna put four beats inside of that three the first beat will be with them the other three one nine so I'll sing it for you so that you can hear it's easy so one two three one you're gonna go one two three four one two three four [Applause] [Applause] okay so the key I guess with with most things in music the key is not just to focus on your part because if you do that you're hopeless it's to listen to the the sound of the two things together the composite sound right which is but got that gut to go but that's it dig it good so that's you and that's you for set yes I knew NPR was funky alright so I'm gonna ask you to do this twice in the tune the first time that I ask you it's gonna be simple it's gonna sound just like that there will be a melody it'll be relatively simple and if you have any concerns do what most musicians do when they don't know what to do which is don't do anything and just look at somebody clapping on stage it looks like your rhythm and then the second time we do it it's gonna be a little more challenging you're gonna do the same thing we'll be doing something a little bit different the most important thing is I will cue you in and I will cue you out that's the hardest thing for musicians to do is shut up right so we'll so I'll do like a bass cue for you to start and then I'll do a bass cue for you to stop after the first one okay and after the second one it'll be obvious cool NPR yeah now you know what it's like to be up here stress here we go alright this song is called cha V it's dedicated to our friends in Morocco [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] beautifully done NPI thank you so much thanks for having us one more time Shawn Martin over here on keyboards Nate Werth on percussion Jason JT Thomas our Johnson the back Chris McQueen on the guitar body sparks on keyboards Justin Santo keyboards and trumpet Zach rock on violin Jennings on trumpet and flugelhorn Chris Bullock on Pete and sax I might believe this night because we think we are the best [Applause]
