hey how's it going guys it's Nate here and one of the many ways Skyrim tries to keep players engaged in its enormous world is by occasionally offering the Dragonborn a say and what exactly happens to it throughout our many quests and interactions in the Elder Scrolls 5 we'd the player will be given the opportunity to make some big decisions that can carry quite a bit of weight whether it's determining the fate of the entire realm and Skyrim civil war or condemning the continent to an eternal darkness in the Dawnguard DLCs quest line there are certainly more than a couple of chances for us dovakin x' to throw our weight around however not every decision we get to make will be quite as easy as deciding to save Paarthurnax and there's a few rulings you'll have to decide that require a bit more thought and nuance than what might be prepared for so in today's video we'll be assessing some of the best sit back throw some more wood on the fire and pop open your favorite brand of mead as we gear up to take a look at five of the toughest choices in the Elder Scrolls v skyrim starting off the forsworn are a violent tribal faction of barbarians exclusively living in the reach while they behave quite the same they're a lot different than your average run-of-the-mill bandits however the forsworn you see are ultimately hoping to one day take over the entirety of the reach and effectively transform it into its own tiny little kingdom ruled by them of course think Stormcloaks but a lot more evil during the four sworn conspiracy questline we cooperate with a concerned citizen named el trous to uncover that the organization has in fact infiltrated the holds capital Markarth and is working with a number of sympathizers to realize that ultimate goal of theirs long story short our investigation of the force warns influence in Markarth eventually ends up irritating the wrong people if you catch my meaning el Tris gets assassinated and will be arrested by a handful of corrupt city guards eventually finding ourselves in Sydenham mine the Reach's notorious prison and labor camp best known for housing anyway at all connected to the forsworn uprising and it's here the player will have a big decision to make because also in this prison with us is a man named Madden AK Madden AK is the leader of the entire forsworn revolt evidently he's been smuggling letters and orders from his prison cell and organizing the entire faction he's often appropriately referred to as the king and rags thanks to his prison clothes the forsworn leader will inform the player that by proving your loyalty to him he can help you and the rest of the prisoners escape allegedly having access to a secret network of dwarven tunnels beneath the camp that can be used to access the free world you'll have one of two options in deciding how you proceed you can a straight-up kill Madden AK steal his keys and make a run for that tunnel yourself if successful you'll eventually find yourself back in the outside world right in the middle of Markarth in fact where a shady businessman by the name of phone or silver blood will already be waiting for the Dragonborn to tell you that he somehow already heard you killed Madden AK and is so glad that dude's dead he's gotten you a pardon from the yarol Congrats the quests over the forsworn leaders dead and you're a free man alternatively you can decide to follow Madden AK complete a few tasks for him within the prison to prove yourself loyal and he'll eventually decide it's time to escape the king and rags will gather your fellow prisoners deliver a rousing speech and lead about eight of you through the tunnels to escape soon emerging from the prison in the same place you otherwise would alone we're thrown our silver blood and a few guards will be waiting once again but this time they're not here with a pardon instead throw in the guards will attack you when your force weren't allies and you and the group will be forced to fight your way out of the city eventually assuming you're successful and get out Madden AK will thank the player for your help promise to continue the rebellion and the quest will be completed additionally the four sworn friends you made will then run on over to Drew daiquiri Dow will remain friendly for the rest of the game honestly I think most of you will probably agree with me on this one actually siding with the forsworn in this mess is by far and away the more entertaining option battling your way through the streets of more cars with a legion of allies at your back is infinitely more enjoyable of a conclusion than simply being congratulated by some rich guy however it's the morality here that can get to be pretty complex the forsworn aren't objectively violent faction known for attacking innocence and even worshipping Daedric gods they are not the good guys however the silver bloods in the reaches current rulers aren't any Saints either assassinating innocent people and getting you arrested without a trial heck they're even accused of committing war crimes in the past so I guess at the end of the day it's a matter of which side is the lesser of the two evils or I guess which side has the more fun quest line which is again objectively the forsworn but you get the idea our next dilemma is a fairly simple one to kill or spare cicero indeed throughout the dark brotherhood storyline no fellow assassin is perhaps quite as unnerving than this devious Imperial gesture he's constantly depicted as being absolutely mad speaking in the third person often talking in riddles and basically worshiping some lady's corpse at the climax of the Brotherhood's main quest just prior to the destruction of the full crete sanctuary by the penances oculus cicero finally snaps allegedly but we were off on some quest the mad man went on a rampage attacking and wounding various sanctuary members before simply running away Astrid at this point has had enough she offers the player the quest the cure for madness her orders are simple tracked down and once and for all kill Cicero will soon find him barricaded away at the Brotherhood's abandoned Dawnstar sanctuary lying wounded on the cold stone well he knows what we're here to do with in a last-ditch effort to preserve his own life the gesture will beg that you spare him asking that you simply go back and lie to everyone just pretend to have killed him he begs any exchange the clown promises to disappear and not bother anyone again leaving the faction alone if you decide that you're just not feeling that generous and attack Cicero he'll quickly spring from the ground and turn hostile saying he's got one final stand to make and once you've won that final battle which again you are the Dragonborn so you should quite easily and report back to Astrid with news of Cicero's death the quest will come to a conclusion and that's that likewise pairing Cicero is even easier simply walk out of the room and go back to the sanctuary lie to astrid pretending to have killed him and that's the end of that chapter - so which of these moves is right well if you're like me during my first playthrough you probably thought Cicero was pretty annoying throughout the entire game and we're all too happy to put him out of his misery however a closer inspection of the brotherhood story arc reveals it may be a bit more nuanced than that throughout the entirety of the game Cicero is the only character who pays any respect for the guilds old traditions he's the only one that cares about the night mother and even though he really dislikes the player he still respects you as the listener and refuses to lay a finger on you unless you attack first even when we get to the dawn star sanctuary if we have the ghost of Lucien LaChance as a follower an old member of the guild from oblivion that spirit will tell us that Citiz doesn't want cicero to die meanwhile Astrid on the other hand sells us out the second she gets the chance and the rest of the faction doesn't even pay lip service to the tenants anymore they're clearly more interested in finances than respecting the guild furthermore at the conclusion of the Brotherhood storyline assuming you spared him once asteroids out of the picture Cicero returns to offer himself as a loyal follower well he may not like you again you're the listener and he respects that which is pretty much the exact opposite of how Astrid feels about everything so what will it be will you find it in your heart to forgive sky arms most notorious clown for his betrayal at the sanctuary or will you once and for all decide to cure his madness the easiest way you know how coming in at number three who to slay with the ebony blade so upon completing the Fallas daedric quest the whispering door which is one of the games a shortest quests might I add you literally just need to steal a single key but I digress after that quest ends you'll be rewarded with a unique great sword known as the ebony blade now the thing about the ebony blade is that when you acquire it initially it's actually pretty weak well at least by Daedric item standards dealing a measly eleven points of base damage and absorbing just ten units of health what gives well here's the kicker you can make the ebony blade considerably more powerful there is a way to turn it into a truly spectacular item but the methods to do so are probably less than favorable you see the blades owner mephala is the Daedric goddess of murder and betrayal using the weapon to kill those who trust you ie betraying them will satisfy the God and charge the blade for you if you will basically for every character you have a positive not neutral positive relationship with and kill using the ebony blade it's absorb health stat will increase just a little bit by two points after 10 friends have been murdered to death the absorb health and chant meant finally caps at 30 remember we started at 10 so this is quite a substantial increase 20 points the big decision or I guess decisions here are obvious which 10 innocent people do we kill if any at all what makes this so hard is the fact that only characters we have a positive view with ie people we've either completed quests for or are followers of the Dragonborn are viable candidates we can't just walk up to a random merchant we don't care about they don't count it's exclusively characters that like and trust you now I will admit there is a little bit of a workaround to this you can just kill a single friendly character and repeatedly use a spell to resurrect and kill them again with each rotation counting towards a progression of the blade but that's kind of cheating so for did I mentioned it my personal strategy has always just been to hire mercenaries and then kill them with the sword because I guess I feel like that's a little bit less betray II but even then I'm not really fooling anybody animals also count towards this but let's be honest we're not gonna attack any of them so it's really just people and it's a really tough decision I think you get the idea there's no reason to go through and list all of the possible combinations sure maybe you can go after some friendly characters that are technically evil like mad anak for instance after we finished that quest line but even then I'm not sure if there's ten people like that so yeah you get the idea here pretty tricky position to be in for fourth spot what do we tell Krister okay so this in all seriousness is probably the least meaningful decision of this list as at the end of the day it has virtually zero impact on the game or even our quest rewards nonetheless there's an interesting moral dilemma to be examined here so upon our first visit to missed watch a large bandit occupied fortress that lies right on the border of East March and the rift after clean-out the bandits on the outskirts and entering the interior itself we can bump into an unarmed man who totally isn't a bandit named Krister who will call the dragon ward over to a closet he's hiding in and asked for help evidently this guy's a farmer not too long ago his wife a woman named Fiola mysteriously disappeared he tracked her here to this bandit stronghold where Krister is convinced she must be being held captive now the thing is Krister is no Dragonborn he's an aged man and isn't prepared to fight his way through an army of barbarians to save his wife so who asked you to do just that this begins the quest forgetting about Feola and it's mostly just a normal dungeon crawl as you progress through the castle in search of Chris's wife ultimately though with a little bit of elbow grease you will get to the final chamber of the dungeon and will be greeted with a bit of a twist yes you will find Fiola but she won't be tied up nor held in a cell no she's in fact the leader of this bandit clan wait what when asked what's going on the noir woman explains that she willingly left her husband to pursue a life of excitement and adventure eventually she found this bandit tribe and decided to make it her new family now how she managed to become the full-on leader of this tribe seemingly only days after joining isn't quite as apparent but I don't know we became the listeners of the Dark Brotherhood like 10 minutes after joining so who are we to judge when told her husband's here looking for her Feola will get visibly annoyed speaking ill of him referring to the man as a hag and overall appearing quite dismissive of someone she said vows to viola will simply ask that you make him go away lie and say that she's dead be honest and say she doesn't want to see him just pretend you didn't find her she doesn't care though the warrior does request you don't kill him from here you have to decide what to do is it best to be honest and just tell the poor man who literally risked his life trying to find his wife that sheep just doesn't want to see him or should we spare his feelings and say that the poor woman died alternatively there is a really I guess you can say odd third option if we just decide to attack and kill Feola which I don't know why he would do that you can come back and tell the old man that you well murdered his wife and he will turn hostile but you should win the ensuing battle considering he's unarmed and pretty old at the end of the day this quest isn't one with the right answer and there are no happy endings well I mean there can be a happy ending for you if you decide to loot both these individuals but you get the point pretty sad affair and finally last on our list the Dragonborn DLC and the island of a soul Stein introduced a new type of resource to the Elder Scrolls 5 stolen a mysterious yet insanely powerful type of enchanted ice that can make some of the best weapons and armor in the entire game the only people who have fully mastered its secrets are the Skull Nords native to Olsson the quest a new source of stall rim centers around a recent kidnapping of one of those skull Nords by none other than the Thalmor the Aldmeri Dominion wants to uncover the secrets of stall rim for themselves the quest itself has a fairly simple structure we simply track down where that Nord is being held free him and then go take care of the small company of Dominion agents at a nearby port and that's that however players with a speech skill of above 75 have a special unique option available to them players with a high speech craft skill can convince and karien the leader of the Thalmor on the island to buy stole rim from you essentially saying hey listen you guys are never gonna figure out how this stuff works but you can't just buy it from me in exchange for some coin and and garyun as it turns out is a pretty sensible business partner he pays reason to believe and if you have the merchant speech perk and carrion will buy and sell items that aren't stolen - also if you play your cards especially right the elves will give you a stall rim source map which updates the world map to provide the locations of various stolen deposits for you to mine so these Dalmore while they might be twisted bad guys can indeed be pretty good friends the only trouble of course being that you are backing what is quite literally the most evil faction in all of Tamriel with aspirations of world domination and trampling on various freedoms but on the other hand hey money and with those final words of wisdom we are going to wrap up five of the toughest choices you'll have to make in the Elder Scrolls v skyrim thanks for stopping by everybody which of the conundrums did you find to be the most intriguing or difficult ones to resolve leave a comment down below as always like ratings are very much appreciated again thanks for watching and I hope to catch you all in my next video peace out everyone [Music]
