player progression in Skyrim is vitally important to the gameplay Loop and at its core allows you the player to build the character you want in a fun and rewarding Manner and while the original system wasn't perfect and occasionally suffered from a few exploits I found it worked very well and was a big reason I would return to play the game over and over again but now 13 years later we have a vast collection of mods that can build upon and provide a distinctive gameplay experience never seen in Skyrim before and today I want to showcase A small collection of mods that will overhaul how the Skyrim progression system works now this won't be for everyone but in my opinion it provides a very unique and immersive way to enjoy Skyrim at the core to implementing this new system is the mod simply called experience I've made it no secret that this is my favorite mod of all time simply because it encourages player exploration and rewards you for actually playing the game how it works your overall character level is decoupled from your skills meaning no longer will you level up by increasing each skill such as sneak or one-handed instead you will gain experience and level up your character through a series of in-game actions the main ways include completing a quest or clearing a dungeon but simply getting a kill discovering a new location or even just reading a book will also net you a small amount of XP simply put just playing the game this has the benefit with focusing on skills such as smithing sneak or enchanting won't cause your character to become very high level early on instead allowing you to level with the world as you progress through different quest lines I also recommend picking up the MCM add-on that will give you full control on what actions give you experience and by how much for example Le clearing a Nordic or dmer ruin will grant you 100 XP but clearing a small cave will only Grant you 40 XP this can be adjusted to whatever you like overall this mod really promotes exploration and completing quest lines instead of just leveling a certain skill and the other mod to be used in conjunction with experience is called leveling Freedom which will let you configure your own experience curve through a simple MCM we can see the default Skyrim leveling system begins with a base of 75 experience needed and an additional 25 required for each subsequent level meaning at the start you will gain levels very quickly but toward the late game leveling your character becomes a massive grind instead we change this to the recommended experience curve that starts with a base of 300 XP and increases by 10 for each level gained this means you will level much slower to begin with but the XP Curve will remain much smoother creating a more linear leveling system compared to its counterpart for example by level 15 both the vanilla and recommended curves will require 450 XP to gain one level but at level 40 the vanilla Curve will require over 1,000 with the new Curve will only require 700 this makes playing the game a lot more enjoyable and lessens the grind in the late game allowing you to progress your character even further while also reducing the initial burst of levels gained early on now if you want the leveling curve to be a little bit steeper then I recommend adjusting the experience required for each level from 10 to about 15 but otherwise just use the recommended curve for a more rewarding leveling experience next we're going to take a look at how you gain your main stats of Health Magicka and stamina first we have a combination of two amazing mods called exhaustion and exercise together these two mods provide a unique way to balance and grow each of your main resources exhaustion will Implement a fatigue system which will slowly add a growing penalty to each resource the more you use them for example if I Sprint around everywhere over time my stamina bar won't fully refill or if I'm a Mage and spam a lot of spells soon my total Magicka will begin to drop drop this is designed to imitate your character becoming exhausted to reset your stats back to 100% all you have to do is sleep which provides an endgame immersive reason for you to rest each night and be ready for the next day now this might seem a little counterintuitive and that's why on the flip side we have the exercise mod that works in tandem with exhaustion and will naturally increase your main stats by the amount you exhausted throughout the day again if you are a mage you will quickly gain a large pool of Magicka because you are continually exhausting your Magicka stat to trigger this effect again all you have to do is sleep this combination of both mods organically Works incredibly well and provides a natural way that increases your character stats depending on your play style so a mage will gain more Magicka over time and a warrior will gain more stamina these mods also come with an MCM to edit each value so for example if you didn't want exhaustion to affect your health you could simply make that setting zero or you can increase the amount the exercise affects each stat the default settings work very well in my opinion and didn't require any changing the other mod related to your main stats is called geometric stat growth which will change the amount of main stat you gain each level from a flat level to a percentage of the total normally you would gain gain 10 extra points to a stat of your choice every level which provides a nice little bump in the early game but becomes a bit insignificant going into the late game using a percentage on the other hand the initial increase may be lower at the start but stays relevant throughout your entire playthrough and provides larger increases in the late late game the mod does come with an MCM that is mainly used to display your stats but you can see I've increased my stamina three times but instead of being 130 I'm only at 108 you can edit the stat growth rate and I recommend using a number between 4 and 5% now this does make your stack growth slower especially at the start but pered with exhaustion and exercise you will find your main stats grow more naturally and progress with your character play style now let's take a look at a couple of skill related mods and the first is called Skyrim skill uncapper this mod has several features related to how your skills work in Skyrim and comes with an inii file where you can adjust all the settings first and foremost you must change the used PC level skill XP maltt line from True to false everyone must do this or it won't work with the experience mod then scroll down and you will find the skill cap section which will let you increase the limit of each skill of course by default they are all 100 but if I wanted I could make each skill go all the way up to 150 for example for me I have left them at 100 but feel free to adjust these numbers if you want further down is the main reason we want to use this mod for the skill XP gain multiplier section in here you can adjust how skills gain experience in game and for the setup we want to change all the 1.0 to zeros meaning you will not be able to increase your skills through in-game actions for example the enchanting table will no longer increase your enchanting skill or using a one-handed weapon won't increase your one-handed skill now you might be a little confused as to why we are doing this but the next mod called Static skill leveling Rewritten is the reason basically this mod adds a prompt that will pop up in the skills menu whenever you gain a character level you can then choose what skill you want to increase removing the need to micromanage your actions in game as well as providing full control over your player progression it also removes certain mechanics that essentially break the vanilla system if we use an example when leveling illusion you could just walk around and cast the muffle spell over and over again eventually getting your illusion to level 100 this process requires very little thought and is what you could describe as an exploit or rather just cheesing the game taking away from the overall progression system but with the combination of these two mods you can now use or do anything you want to level up your character and then spend your skill points accordingly to increase the skills you want in the MCM you can adjust several settings and by default each level you will gain 15 skill points plus two times your character level meaning at level 10 you will gain 35 skill points to spend skill have a different cost depending on the level so a skill between 0 and 25 will cost three skill points whereas a skill between 25 and 50 will cost five skill points for me personally I've adjusted these settings as on the video right now reducing the amount of skill points gained each level to five and then adding just one times your character level meaning at level 10 you would gain only 15 skill points I've also reduced the cost to increase the skill on all levels to either 1 2 or three creating a much more simplified system you can of course edit these values to whatever you want this is just what worked best for me overall these two mods allow you to play the game however you want without having to worry about which skill you might level you can also save skill points for later or increase a skill you've never used before a great way to give you more control over your own player progression as well as providing more flexibility and lastly are some perk Edition Mods I'm sure most of you use a moded perk overhaul such as ordinator or the master of one and more often than not these overhauls add several new perks or even entirely new perk trees meaning you probably want a way to get more perk points in game while these two mods might help with that firstly is the mod called Sky shards which has been taken directly from the Elder Scrolls online and will place over 100 skyshards for you to find throughout the world of Skyrim both providing a reason to explore the map and for every three you find you will be rewarded with a perk Point introducing an immersive and great way to gain some perk points in game some will be very easy to find While others will be much more secluded and will ask you to explore off the beaten path and the other mod is called dragon souls to perk point points which very simply adds a spell where you can convert dragon souls into perk points again providing an interesting way to gain more per points you can edit a few settings such as the number of souls required and a multiplier each time you use it but really it's just a simple and clean ingame method to gain more perks and that's all for the Skyrim progression overhaul as I said earlier this may not be for everyone but for me it is made sky so enjoyable to play again creating an immersive and engaging world that gives you full control over how you want to progress your character and I highly recommend at least giving it a go otherwise thank you for watching I hope you enjoyed and I will catch you again next time happy modding
