[Applause] well it's time for an X Games staple an event notorious for his fur making it's the fruit of the Loom skateboard ver file what's up and welcome everybody Brandon Graham alongside the legend Chris Miller with Corbin Harris reporting live from the course Chris this bird stage has propelled countless Gators into superstardom oh boy here at X Games we've had some of our biggest moments throughout history go you know yes operas run from Philadelphia and it is unbelievable and it even holds up today so no doubt about it this is a huge platform and a big event we're excited to see it's a no shortage of big-name out here today including our gold medalist from 2014 Geena Wilkins who has arguably the best style of anyone in this group no question about it Jimmy combined the classic style of what it means to be a skateboarder on any journey with the modern progression of versus gating and it just kind of does it like no one else can but you got to get past this guy Bucky elastic heavy veteran Bucky that qualifies a hard way to get here and he won that qualifier in San Diego Bucky is our oldest scare in the field but he's also our most successful with over 20 X Games metal there's a look at our finals format tens meters out here three runs top score wins of course judging criteria just boiled down to overall impression overall impression but they're looking at tricks and obviously you can't fall and I think beyond that all of these guys that are really capable of winning I mean we pick our favorites and we talk about them but every one of these guys could win this event well we've talked about Jimmy Wilkins and of course Bucky lassic but no shortage of superstars out here today and I know you're really excited about our silver medalist from last year total Shibata notice about a relatively new face on the mana seat and he's got a great style similar in ways to Jimmy Wilkins and kind of a fresh approach and he's excited to exciting to watch so and what we're looking for big things about from him and we'll talk more about it when he skates a lot of fresh blood out here today excited to see what goes down here's a look at that monstrosity of a vert ramp our stage out here today 30 inches and I know we say that and it just feels even being out there even watching on your screen just how big this thing truly is it is absolutely and for all the people that skate skate parks or watch their kids skate skate parks the same idea it's just bigger they got more time in the air and they can do you know more difficult to lips and spins because of that well this is an event that harks back to the very first year back in 1995 and here we are 22 years later and at start time for the fruit of the Loom skateboard for final ticket things off Elliott Sloan Elliott just coming in the ramp look and casual starting off with a couple of big big airs this guy has just turned into such a powerhouse maybe known more for his performances on the big area going down losing it there yeah Lee and also competing they care that you get a challenge of 180 because you got a three-room especially when I wanted big Iroquois around it and that will need an amount of time to both the vectors well and not only the practice time but just adapting to the smaller ramp actually even talking to all the guys they all say it's easier to go from a small ramp to a pea Graham versus the other way around because it just feels so tight and compressed and the time you so much quicker Elliott flown 8 X Games medals two of them gold yet to get the top spot in his career next to drop in our lone British rider in the field Paul Duke Ronchetti such a talent looking for big things out of him strong strong guy talk to his trainer known who treats a lot of our guys in college is one of the strongest guys which works with we don't have an individual today because recovering from injury but sometimes PLG pierre-luc on yon who is a legend in this event sometimes they get confused for one another the names being so similar absolutely PLR is the new PLG release until p oh geez back and recovered for missing often as we take one more look at his first run another look nose grab 540 it's a really cool style and approach we're doing at five and nice-looking kickflip Indy on the corner not sure where that went wrong but you know sometimes this is a mental game as much as it's a game of sport I mean it's just so tough when you to come out there under pressure and perform in that exact moment so Ronchetti with a seventy five solid first run score get each of these leaders getting three attempts we only count the best score so he'll get another couple chances of that Mitchie Brusco a young man that we're waiting to see some really big things from on this stage we've seen it in bigger we've seen a numbered we have yet to see him get that top spot here's a guy who's no stranger to top spot in his 25th X Games appearance owner of 23 at games metal 2-1 the old man no question his track record speaks for itself this guy has one most consistent skaters out there an incredible run skater also a great big air and farm skater such an illustrious career comes up medals of all time getting around with 720 body [Music] [Applause] grain rod and that he's a veteran writing is what you expect from Andy McDonald absolutely again three runs we count the best score but no one knows this competition this format as well as any McDonald and it shows on run number one cool and consistent yeah absolutely and that was a great run but and he's got more for us because he's that type of strategic skater he's definitely going to be out in four runs two and three up in the empty boy house all those medals but it should be noted his last bird medal was in 2013 back in Los Angeles we got a bronze so it's been a minute gray team a question has the top spot right now so many more runs to come here from the inaugural X Games Minneapolis [Applause] we welcome you back to the fruit of the Loom eight board shorts final we are three meters into our ten man feel that Andy McDonald currently holding it down where it is operatic or 17 Catholics putting that in some countries able to go a lot of meat left me down here personally absolutely alright next the drop in the last three got to melt put over and a block such a good skater and I mean when we talk about that record he tends to be a guy that that you know he together an incredible run or he falls over 20 31 is bad here today he earned both of his medals that year nice start to the run really high inertia force several five forty variations looked at back to back to back I mean Marcelo had he can do all three tricks you know he's Oh unbelievable in such a talent and looks like he's putting it together here absolutely on single board around for a better first run in the logo so somebody just put down right there what you like about this one Chris just an incredible run started off very high energy a lot of being airs great on every variation of five forty practically and then this nollie heel into three that's a serious trick I mean I'm it's amazing that he took that much risk on his first run but there he is and that's going to be the first place for shred eighty three point landing me Bastos has just taken on his first attempt in this wheel here at XT Minneapolis officially put on notice there we see Bob burn away the man has accomplished everything there is to do a taxi and he is only to commencement oh shoot time which reference for your packet thousand wanted Philadelphia yeah and you're digging through the funnel of Bob Burnquist content watch his run from Philadelphia hacker game thousand one go it is one of the best runs Cavor on Bert making about that right and it would hold up today so it is last Bert metal just getting on the podium Syrian was back in two thousand six so it's been abandoned for Bob but he had no trouble getting the top spot later on this weekend here's a young man who's we've got rolled up into one of our eyes [Applause] and Mitchie Denver sort of the new wave of birth again just so talented do it all to the record book the ripple of time through the first the land first glance a penny and a clever stranger wind down a super good round row really solid [Applause] years ago recovering from injury here this thing is wide open Brusco is primed to win his very first gold medal if he can put down runs like this absolutely a 720 right there unbelievable combinations and tricks in that run where Mickey you know from child prodigy to mainstay of the vert seen incredible Street skating unbelievable trick selection and that was a solid run if there's any critique he could go a little higher but wow I'm nitpicking with that you can see the nerves on michey well tell you what happened but it mediate points Nick you have a new leader now I know we still got some names left to come but that felt like a podium run that felt like potentially a first place absolutely absolutely I mean I was impressed with bounces around but you use the difference in the technical difficulty with what makes you put down and that's why the judges made another on that score well we'll see if these first-place scores are infection after bath dos get at them Brusco now here's clay Kriner a young man were very excited about it made its debut here but Eckstein Minneapolis has the potential be very special for blade there's a triple crown of court it plays the gulf of competing in park and big air and you can see the difference in his style powerhouse 540 combinations may be hit with body varial new twist I don't know if you can do both but losing it there but again it's that height that amplitude the power that clay has that's what makes him such a such an exception and such a star just going huge on that run we're going to see more from him clay Kriner perhaps giving us a preview of what to come I mean eat chocolate suited loan impressing the fans out here in Minneapolis I can imagine they're doing the same thing for the judges so it's Mickey Brusco leading the way with that eighty eight point six six were seven skaters in for run number one of our fruit of the Loom skateboard bird final but our podium coming up next hopping rolling here is Buckeye lap 24 next time is what she ended up our conference qualifier [Music] [Applause] well he got along I've been watching the clips of Bucky Gang vert and he's been putting in the time and he's got some great new tricks and progression but she's not sleeping he's on him this guy is one of the greatest skateboarders of all time nollie homeless to be held Ariel combines the old with the news real innovation were inventing new tricks of old tricks just over 40's half years old but might be adding to his collection with a run like that Wow nollie flip lean just so unique I mean Bucky one of the only people doing that switch front table really technically difficult that was not a simple run curious to see where the judges stack him up remember Bruce go with that top spot the midst of wrong one each of these Gators will get three attempts 81 so enough to put them into podium position early in his final not bad Bucky's got more in the tank next to drop in a guy we've really been talking up super style much like Jimmy Wilkins in 2040 go to Shibata crashed the burglary absolutely and you're about to see he's refreshing the wash she goes big similar to clay Kriner in that power some style spot 40 right there amazing but that's kind of a setup trick for him apparently what a run I'm he just so amazing twenty-year-old Mitchie Brusco our current leader going to get bummed by 21 year old photos your bata here in rut number one this is the big moment of anticipation there is very interesting to me because that run was on fire different trader on 90 on the dot moto Shibata taking over firstly Wow what a run no no strategic build-up there he's not he's not on the ante McDonald program of start starting and Bell heavy moto takes many look at that a 90 on the dot bumpy Brusco we've got ourselves a contest here so here's Jimmy will drop dailus dieter and be gold at X Games on me back to Washington we've got a bronze last year Jimmy is just grateful that that's maybe the only way to describe it's not technicality to because it looks subtle but it's so extremely difficult that fall at the end will hurt him the helices awesome round just so smooth and just everything the way he flips his board the Brandon yes we have Austin's 2016 gold medalist right here Sam Beckett Sam unfortunately inches this year while what happened I was just gang and I slipped and twisted my knee and my ankle partially tore my MCL my hamstring and pre my ankle no it's about months ago so a few more weeks before I'm back on board and then how long do you think to your back hips are this level again I don't know a few more weeks I'm going to start rolling around and then we'll see in a couple months maybe I'll be strong again I blinked yeah wolf standing here right next to ramp those first runs everyone was throwing down who you thinking who you think is going to come through with the goal design it's pretty hard to say I always thought it's going to be a battle between Jimmy and moto and I wasn't expecting the most to make that first run like straightaway so Jimmy noses don't step up I think it's going to be pretty close between those three we can't wait to see you back guys named you Corbin yes Sam Beckett too bad that we're not seeing him out here after the performance he put down in 2016 but the rest of that podium moto Shibata Jimmy Wilkins absolutely making their presence known here today absolutely living up to the hype so we kickoff run number two here at the fruit of the Loom skateboard vert final Eliot lone did not have the run he's doing it so far just gotta stay on board it's like I said all of these it's also good that was a very weird fall but colored again going from Big Ear like those huge transitions you're talking about a 30-foot just order product on a challenge even though this is a big ramp it's a lot tighter it's a lot quicker I think that's tough time and bouncing back and forth it's really neat to see this podium right now of course it's early three attempts were one run in except for Elliott we just got a second attempt at moto and first Jimmy and second go in third if it were to finish this way it would be our youngest podium connect history of that game's skateboard for but again don't want to get ahead of ourselves especially when you got a guy like Paul Luke Ronchetti about to drop in for his second attempt no again Paul Luke a lot of power being me years me on that we talking a very serious competitor to the head I'm training he's disciplined and he's got the tricks just have to hang on and overcome the nerves I'll call it putting some pressure on himself deliver on a burden seven weeks is where for today again that 75 on run number one was a solid sword and held on to the top spot anyway on the outside looking in in seventh place right ahead of them our next competitor to drop in for his second attempt a team economy and I'm looking for Andy to step up this run again he's he's so seasoned and so strategic and you know we're talking about Paul Luke trying to overcome the nurse well this guy's mastered that piece of it and typically you see any he puts down his first run and then he built and out a little bit more and then he'll add a little bit more so looking for the degree what the variation is in this run blown away I start tickle interest so perfect so casual I mean maybe going looks real act like you don't 25 different possibly happen 20 is around a little bit better little higher that time than his first runner I feel sherry on top of that run any McDonald and again and again no one has more career exhange competition starts than 80 McDonald and that's the reason why is that enough to bump him up crystal well I think he I think he did improve on his first run absolutely I I can't say that he's going to get on the podium with that run but it was a good run coming in for how's it going for but not in six places where he played a with that 79 Marcelo bastos skated so well on that first attempt with sitting on the top spot before it gets bumped by a handful of guys he's right now directly on the outside of that podium it aches Gordon [Music] well you know just the good news that was another great run and she knows where he's at so he knows what you ought to do and all he can all he can really do is try to up the ante he's got the tricks oh there you go and fall tougher for giant because none to the doctors what he did you know and and so in his position of course he wants the potions but you know he knows that first run he knows what that is and and he can continue to try harder and harder tricks and the thing is Marcel has the tricks to do it it's not like he did the best run he can ever do Bob Burnquist 30 X Games matters of them gold right now he is tied with James that's where we're second on the all-time went live with hon Shaun White with 50 well there's no question over the last 10 years Bob's focus has been being here no doubt dominated that a smaller transition for him has secondary discipline Jews are but never have to say that he doesn't have what it takes to win today because he can it's just incredibly difficult to go back and forth for a bigger to avert or bigger to park it's amazing that they do Bob Burnquist again unable to pray on it to be dirty on a test you're just joining our in the midst of run to hear the fruit of the Loom skateboard Bert's final blow to Nevada went absolutely bananas version Ron a behind me on the dot that we think is not true sober slices he got three Ron he's never before battled in his crew [Applause] anybody wasn't paying attention to that could be unique that those knows what he's got to do I mean again if you're Bruce go if you're Bastogne or that stage you made a really great run so there's nothing else to do but kind of go for broke and just try your hardest stuff you know so far skaters not having the theme faked it runs ooh that they had it run one where we caught the monster swirl with a grinder get the first that friend three is trying to replace fitting Mickey the birds are wonders at five forty wait you can't getting the high breeze off level oh my gosh they're doing Wilkins busy juice coaster podium positions with Bastos right behind them in that worked late his spot moto and she's yet to drop in for their second on I think this guy would like to reverse that trend he said what young guys taking over I'm about to show you what it means to be boss of the vert ramp our oldest competitor in the field 44 year old monkey laughs that you've got ten magazines gold metal eight of them in this very event dropping straight into it air fakie I mean there's buggy has original comedy they're so difficult amazing actually had to go and qualify cookie didn't make the podium last year something like that I'll make real a veteran like him even hungrier he's a fierce competitor I mean he's a he's a champion this guy is motivated and he's still motivated and as a matter of fact I think all these young guys makes you want to try even harder our current leader 21 years old moto sobota a silver medal in his next game thank you last year and you saw a preview of what this guy's all about and run number one no one's been able to what can you stop that somebody do not know that we're gonna have to sit around a seed like tire on this run i feel your body here 500 no surprise what is your in the world from no harm in trying I love watching Bob eyes up there moto's about an awesome run he was looking for but first place is where he will stay our final skater to drop it for his second attempt Jimmy Wilkins let's hear how X Games has been an inspiration in his skate career in this game days now as soon as I got a skateboard the only thing I could watch those skateboarding was the X Games so like that's how I got into skating and that's how I got into skating vert ramps just from watching those contests and watching guys like Bob and Tony and Bucky like you know have these amazing contests we will just watching the legend trying to go what improv that did you hear he's coming in on a big big eater Creek Elgato classic they look at the bird attack and sweet just a couple of months ago so he's got the pedigree he's got the compras old can he put it all together get back on the top spot he absolutely can massive frontside alley-oop ollie alley-oop tail grab five-o whoa I'm a mate whoa what got away from him backside ollie five I'm dizzy this is the run it happening so just nice and it oh I think everyone collectively here in Minneapolis wanted to read that finish he's got such a unique style everyone I talked about I mean you know all kinds of vert veterans and Industry people it's if Jimmy makes his run absolutely will win the event he's the guy to beat right now and you can see why but he's got to make a home run if he finishes that is it enough to Trump Shibata take over the top spot it definitely could be we are Bank Stadium here at MC Minneapolis who runs in an hour three-run final minute Motum Shibata they'll lead the way Jimmy will get on his yield at a point behind Oh put it together on that second attempt wrists yeah I mean I felt like he was on his way he was on his way one more trick and he might have had it going to have to wait for run number three Elliott Sloan is sitting in 10th this is not been the birth final and he was looking for again ultra focused on big air and he generally is you're in you're out let's see if he's a fizz best for last here on third final attempt time well Elliott Sloan with a heater of a bird part video parts he doesn't like he doesn't have the tricks but again tomorrow blame it on the bigger but doing these two he gained his potential but that be okay together on a temp number two he's sitting in seventh place if you watch the crash podium position right now you have to start to these run I love how big he skates these days a lot of our very smooth skater none he's got the technical ability as well speed watch our final 10 seconds [Applause] for his witness board our Joe 540 details the one foot in front you know what that didn't keep it good run still going past the buzzer now was a good run I don't think that was going to put him on the podium but that was excellent it's definitely going to pump his score a full pool for Paul Luke Ronchetti as we take another look at his best score was a 75 on run number one massive amplitude from PL are just going huge on that run big body jar and an our jar thrown in that run so some impressive text along with the big air a 70 point six six not able to best his score so seventh place is where he will stay Andy McDonald he's had to clean attempts he's going to have to shake things up if he wants to back that 79 without on attempt number zone dick quick as I've said Andy McDonald easily was dealt it up building blocks from one run number one to run number throw helping me empty and losing it and buff himself up very uncharacteristic of Andy back losses word of that early in Toronto sixth place is where it will stay could be noted from 2002 to 2013 the 15 X Games skate vert gold medals were won by just four guys Jer Luka Ellen John Wayne Sandra Diez and Bucky Blackman but the last four have been won by four different skaters will we make it five four five with Moto Shibata currently in first place I think we could and I think I wouldn't be surprised if this man looks down a scorcher he's got it in him or solo he can hang on sitting in that fourth place spot [Applause] and I am that one but 501 Chris absolutely so technical so much going on what an effort and it actually a great showing for Marcella Vassos not on the podium though today the cell Paulo data was looking for his first podium since X Games Barcelona back in 2013 but he will be unable to get there as fourth place is where he will stay good show from Marcelo sorry to see him not make that run but that was still awesome skating so for solo day done we move on the Bob Byrne was be sitting in ninth place we're still looking for the best from him today you're in Bert [Music] again the heavy favorite an XP big air he would love nothing more than to get back on top in an event he hasn't won in 16 years getting a little sketchy isn't hanging on though known for having a sketchy stuff and making something you shouldn't really like that already the best run of the day for him and with Bob you got to watch him and Rose switch trick like like this nothing whoa what happened there he lit out or something you bring up a good point about Bob burg but he so speak good technically that sometimes his switch skating you forget what his orientation is and I think sometimes that's almost too nuanced for fans watching sure and you know you know like I said bob has the scratchy style where who make stuff that he shouldn't you know he pull stuff in I mean right there he landed just a fraction of an inch below the coping he just his front foot he kind of fishtail Barry just lost traction I mean it was amazing that he recovered and didn't step off but so we'll find out Bob Burnquist third run-scorer right after them the crowds have officially invaded day one Minneapolis in front of our new home of US Bank Stadium its third and final run time here at The Frugal loom skateboard vert final moto Shibata Jimmy Wilkins Mitchie Brusco those three are in your podium position they could play some leapfrogging with each other with moto shoe bata Mitchie and Jamie still to go for their third and final attempt will moto hold on to the top spot we find out a young man who's trying to jump up and earn his very first X Games gold signet bronze medal position Mitchie Brusco here's not dropping it for his third and final attempt it is the fruit of loom skateboard bird fun 720 starting off strong great combo a lot of comedy does tino 720's like their company nope not one can ask could you have the nice luxury to this run will never and again you're sitting on the podium all you can do is try to up the ante and that's what she did again so good so talented so young he's got three pawns battles in event chris miller three runs in sitting in third place yeah are already a veteran doing some amazing skating trying to up his score and losing it now he's just got to wait till right now to that bronze medal early two guys who could potentially bump him off the podium and one of them is our next to drop d and lake liner has not had the day he's looking for thus far went down hard so what could he do here to crash the post party well he can go it's huge him and stay on his board i think it was even definitely got the skills don't want to go big hire out here today this South Carolina native Lake rider mala'u Melancon can flip nd I'm able to do it light sigh of relief from Mitchie Brusco put it together for that lady knew he had to push it on his final attempt he did just that but was unable to stick the run where does it go wrong Chris yeah you know he flipped his board it just didn't get around you could see its wheel side up and there's no chance on that one he took so he took a pretty hard slam to you on that run before so that's got to be tough it rattles you a bit a fifty two point six six was crying her run to score of 51 for his third attempt ninth place is where he will stay there is one skater left Bucky lassic that can jump into podium position and potentially knockout Mitchie Brusco here's his chance he put down a very strong run number one with that 81 he hit 30 man at 88 157 that take over a podium spot starting off strong [Applause] [Applause] to finish the wrong tough break for Bucky I mean he's going for it that run was chock-full of tech there look at that not able to get a grip water so with that Brusco if your exceed another bronze medal and we can officially say with still two skaters left to drop in there will be our youngest podium ever but this is our current leader moto Shibata he knows Jimmy will get this pumping for him you've gotta push it up the ante right now if he wants to give himself some breathing room Wow moto just coming [Applause] [Music] [Applause] possible lien 585 frontside cab Madonna Wow some of these tricksters tongue-twisters doesn't isn't able to up the ante oh is that the door is still left open if just ever so cracked or gifs will get more unbelievable skating from moto Shibata again Tabata and the rookie merge the silver medal last year now we hit gold medal position by the fabric we will stay here I don't have that night or any movement how's it 89 and he is our last walk gainer to drop in here for the fun [Applause] this is what F scheme is all about Jimmy Wilkins he's one on this stage or for my golden medal is fine but he came here for the put it down right now back flip into imperative 540 that's so hard to do a lid trick into an air that pilot alone 540 with that photo Shibata his very first X Games gold medal here he went what a moment top rate for Jimmy but he's been here before we couldn't be more thrilled for Moto a sensational battle all day long between those two so much respected there Yugi Briscoe as well this is our youngest podium in the history of Ed Gein skateboard vert Wow amazing absolutely the new English invert being congratulated by veterans buck and Annie McDonald so here it is our final standings moto Shibata Jimmy Wilkins and Mitchie Brusco round out our podium here at day one of X Games Minneapolis and this is the first gold medal for
