when you come down and you come to the Keys you go on the flats and a lot of times you go on the flats and you're trying to do the most difficult thing to do and that's a grand slam you just say it a bit yeah people around the world that travel go to Key West for The Nightlife but the way I think about going to Key West first hand is to go fishing and then go do all the bar crawling and all that at the end of the fish there we go baby you think we can do it again hell yeah we can okay again I love it I love it keep going slow here he comes keep going going slow keep going got him pull let me guy that you know is not a sight fisherman you go offshore you can go to the reefs you can go in the golf you can do all this but the high-end Anglers the guys that want the hard you know hunt and all that you go on the flats and a lot of times you go on the flats and you're trying to do the most difficult thing to do and that's a grand slam and a grand slam is the three silver species it's a permit it's a Bonefish and it's a Target the thing that I love about Key West and its Fisheries that it's challenging it is not easy and when you think that you've got something figured out and saw water fishing you can come down here and put your skills to the test I consider this to be the Olympics of flat fishing foreign to go out fishing with somebody or you're going out to do you know a day on the water there's something obviously that goes through your brain who and why and it's Brandon's here you know Brandon is just a very established fishing guide grew up there his whole life but him and I are very alike dude I'm pretty sure there's one sitting down there I mean just down yeah he's on he's on top see him moving to the right there there he is going to the right yep right there get down there crap get down he's right on it stick with him for a second there he is come right back yeah he's still sitting right there I can see his tail oh he got he just ate it just ate a bit yes just man grip him man oh oh oh oh it's magic I've got into and caught a lot of permit in my life this particular permit is it is fighting like I've never seen before I mean he's not having it all right I saw some glow there guys I'm seeing these coming up a little bit coming up it is a good fish good fish brother oh yeah it's a good one it's a real one it's a real one oh dude that's I love I think my favorite fish to catch are tarpon I love the honesty of Bonefish but something about the mental satisfaction of tricking a permit yeah man I'm with you on that especially as hard as those guides like yourself become so knowledgeable and have you know just know the tides and the banks and the the edges in the back country and the ocean and because I mean you basically came down to the Keys and you said I'm become a fishing guide I've always been had an insatiable appetite for knowledge whatever I'm interested in and when I moved down there I literally felt like I'd gone to heaven it's an island when you think of the Florida Keys you think about fish boating you know being on the water and there's one place that sticks out so much further than all the rest that's Key West people around the world that travel to the Keys go to Key West for The Nightlife they're going for the dinners they're going to go ride jet skis and go parasailing and ride mopeds around with their buddies but the way I think about going to Key West is firsthand is to go fishing and then go do all the bar crawling and all that at the end of the fishing oh boys it's about to go down we got a permit and then now we're bonefishing and it's just a complete different layout landscape of where we're fishing from one species to the next and I'm out here trying to catch these singles or pairs of Bonefish in six inch water I mean I have to get out for them get out a walk they're so spooky and so aware of us I tried to be I tried to be like a hair man trying to creep up on this thing just to get just to be able to flip a cast in there to to get the next species done I'm like a stork it's like a stork try to put it close to him as soon as he came out there I slid it then he said no we were able to pull off a permit we spent most of the day looking for a Bonefish we jumped a tarp and we finally found a good amount of Bonefish over some white shallow bottom and they're not happy when they're over that you know they're super sketched out we couldn't get within 100 feet of them we tried walking to them we tried leading them by 10 feet we tried putting their face everything just wasn't working oh got him there we go baby got a bag come on slice it slice it that's awesome man it's great how would you compare these bones in relation to Islamorada bones the ones in Alvarado like you guys fish them different you know you guys are real shallow water up here and they're tailing and stuff man I'm usually looking for bowls deeper water you know there's just Mudders they're easier that way cool man thank you thank you thank you all I can do is find them you got to put the cast on them oh man go to sleep go to sleep sleep oh man what a gorgeous wow beautiful look at that camouflage how perfectly that matches that grass just let it go ready come on there we go love it man look at that you know you forget what you're doing look at this so I literally proposed to my wife like in this sand spot really right here yeah this is where you propose it right here [Music] she made it look easier than what I just did if there was a giant School of like 25 of them it was perfect especially for fishing including Bonefish Tarpon and permit the bay is home to a state aquatic preserve a national park and a national Marine sanctuary but Biscayne Bay is in trouble poor water quality seagrass loss algal blooms and fish kills have all been documented in the bay and are due in large part to its close proximity to urban areas that deliver excess nutrients to the system the Bay's Health depends on taking action to fix and upgrade Wastewater infrastructure eliminating Wastewater outfalls converting septic systems to sewer minimizing other nutrient sources and ultimately restoring lost habitat that supports our iconic Fisheries for the first time in response to these challenges Miami-Dade County is developing a formal plan to do just that it's called a reasonable Assurance plan and it will lay out a path forward for the northern portion of the bay where the impacts are most severe once the wrap as it's called is completed it will be sent to the state for approval making the county eligible for grant funding to address these issues in another positive move the county recently adopted a strong ordinance that restricts the use of fertilizers containing nitrogen and phosphorus during the wetter months of the year to reduce runoff into the bay these are really important steps towards improving the condition of Biscayne Bay and BTT will continue to about to just give up hope we're done as I'm stripping I look back to see how you know and kind of a deflated look at Brandon that thing just rips out of my head it was just gold man it was gone oh oh yeah baby I got him he got old he got he went oh my God keep your eye out there he's gonna jump again I got him he's on oh my God it's a big fish buddy in the Fortress man oh my God I'm gonna drive towards her oh my God Greyhound oh I saw that law I saw a little bit of color I know that I want black shadow like you know what I'm gonna Chuck it out there what I mean we're about to call it right we're about to right what are we doing out here right now literally what are we doing and all of a sudden part of that hard gas goes look back and then it would just get out of my hand man dude we get that leader you know what that means right yep slam baby come on now kid come on now kid there she is we do it for the children [Music] oh what the big girl oh it is keep going keep going get a leader got it yeah baby oh my God incredible man thank you buddy we've talked about it we won the fish together we looked at the weather and said it wasn't ideal but you know what we're just gonna it's it's tough but that's what fishing that is the first Blue Sky I've seen all day well anytime you get a slam and you can get a couple of real fish in there man oh yeah big permit big permit nice nice Bonefish oh oh come on up baby oh oh God oh come on baby come on baby show me that down there we go drop me that dance oh see those Greyhound jumps are incredible yeah the fact that a fish that's that
