[Music] you let's go back to the very beginning of the self-loading pistol history today by the last decades of the 19th century everything was ready to design a pistol that is firing faster than the revolvers Hiram Maxim invented the blowback operated feeding system the smokeless powders were replacing the black powder and the self-contained metallic cartridges were spreading all over the world from the 1870s one of the very first successful self-loading design was who go boar hearts toggling system pistol the fire the bottle necked 7.65 by 21 centerfire cartridge this cartridge and the new business possibility inspires three brothers working for the Mauser company Fidel Friedrich and user Fidel worked in the experimental workshop of the factory and they designed a self-loading pistol in their free time our Mauser did not support any kind of pistol designs by those times in fact he did not know anything about the hobby of the Fidel Brothers it was 1895 when their prototype based on the modified and stronger and poor heart cartridge was almost ready the proto name of the pistol was p7 point 63 or simply the fader pistol however Paul Mauser accidentally recognized what was going on in the lab but instead of freezing the development he jumped into the project and had the brothers with ideas he also understood the excellent business possibility of the self-loading pistol and patented it under his own name the first firing prototype was test shot on the 15th March 1895 this pistol was already named the mauser c96 in the following few years Mauser patented his pistol in Germany France in the UK and in the USA as well the production lasted until 1939 and nearly 1 million pieces were produced plus all the quantities produced in Spain or in China without licensing the broom-handle pistol is fed from a 6 or 10 round clip we are the clip charger guides on the upper receiver the magazine box was fixed and machined into the receiver frame in front of the trigger the pistol features a short recoil blowback operated semi-auto feeding system up and firing the barrel assembly and the both recoil together before they unlock and separate the batter stops quickly and the Board continues reward compressing the recoil spring extracting the spent case cocking the hammer and then feeding the new round into the chamber and locking the bridge the c96 pistol was not a service arm of the Imperial Army however is still so intensive action as the Army ordered one hundred and fifty thousand pieces of the 1912 model as a standard-issue p08 pistols were not available in sufficient numbers to accept the army orders the factory modified the pistols to fire the 9-millimeter Luger round this variant of the c96 was named the Red nine after large number nine burned and painted into the grip panels the 7.62 3 by 25 miles around was loaded with an 86 crane Full Metal Jacket bullet leaving the bore at 460 meters per second 'm this is 600 joules of muzzle energy 100 Jews more than the energy of a standard 9-millimeter Luger round by those times regardless of the differences they were post suitable for military news [Music] all together 137 thousand thread nine pieces were delivered to the troops until the end of the war the c96 is a piece of art and this is true also for the standard accessories supplied with the pistol the wooden case with the leather belt acts as a holster and also shoulder stock for firing pistol for longer ranges the small pocket on the leather cover holds an extra charging clip full of ammo and it also holds the screwdriver necessary for disassembling the pistol the rear sight of the red nine is graduated to 500 meters that is very very optimistic but it is the half the distance at the sight of the 7.62 3 Mauser caliber versions were graduated altogether the sight picture of the pistol is excellent it is often heard that you can fire the Russian 7.62 caliber Tokarev rounds from these pistols and this is partially true because it will chamber and you can fire it but it is much stronger so it will put unnecessary stress on the ball so avoid it stay with the original Mouse around [Applause] the 25-meter group shot from arrest was just excellent the disassembly of the Mauser pistol was a piece of cake it took only five minutes but to put everything back to its place it took one hour see how I did it first check if the gun is unloaded use the small button on the bottom of the magazine to remove the floor plate now you can remove the magazine spring and the follower now with the hammer cocked leave the small ledge just above the grip now you can slide the barrel assembly off the receiver the lock work can be separated from the barrel assembly now it's time to disassemble the ball push the firing pin forward the screwdriver and give it a quarter turn this we release the recoil spring and you can remove the firing pin to remove the bolt itself remove the small catch on the right side of the barrel assembly and remove the bolt with the recoil spring start with the barrel assembly with the recoil spring back to its place and reinstall the bolt into the barrel assembly the correct way compress the recoil spring with a screwdriver and reinstall the small catch put the firing pin back to its place push it forward and turn it back with a screwdriver replace the locking block on the lag on the barrel assembly it fits only in one position now reattach the lock work with a little practice you will find the position when it locks on to the locking board slide the upper part on the receiver hold the lock work and the barrel assembly together until the retaining latch snaps into place if it is needed pull the locking latch down slide the follower back to its positions and replace the floor plate unfortunately I did not have proper clips for the pistol so I had to load it the hard way I had to hold the bolt in the rear position with one hand as when you load the first cartridge it automatically moves forward and chambers the first round the redline is equipped with a certain type new safety that can be engaged in the cocked hammer and the lower hammer as well in this position it holds the hammer away from the firing pin by the time of the first world war this pistol was perfect for close combat fighting in the trenches and it is a delight to shoot this pistol still today I really hope you enjoyed this little time travel with the c96 mauser pistol stay tuned for more historical guns you've been watching balázs naylet and the Cataldo youtube channel
