today's video is sponsored by the deck of many calm December's rolling in and I'm still a one-man show here on YouTube heck with my horrendous scheduling it's probably not even December anymore but who really cares me now regardless I'm still in the spirit of giving and what better way to bless the world and with some more anime into Deen D so a while back I set up a poll on what anime you weebs wanted to see done next I was secretly hoping for a reason because it's my second favorite do you say Kosh oh but you guys want an shield hero so here we are not complaining or anything shield heroes good and all it's just that I won't be drawing Ram anytime soon don't worry my love we'll be together one day what are you holding nothing you better sell that thing before the end of this video or so help me alright now for those of you who are forgotten the rising of the shield hero is an anime focused around a man by the name of now Fumito itani an otaku shut-in who spends most of his time gaming and reading light novels from the library near his home sounds a lot like me except the main difference is that now who me actually goes outside one day while browsing shelves an interesting book caught his interest I told the tale of a hero who would travel to another world and protected with the help of other adventurers well that hero turned out to be now Fuu me and the book transported him into a new world bearing only the clothes on his back and a newly acquired legendary shield capable of powerful defense magic but a story wouldn't exist without its conflict and the main problem now whom he faces in the anime comes from the fact that shield are suck and everybody now who me was supposed to have to help him along his journey just wants to beat him up so the big question for today is do shield or suck in D&D well let's take a look to keep things simple we'll only need to worry about one thing now for me as level in D&D will be based off of how much HP he has now this is gonna be the most intricate part of the video so let me explain what I mean by that in the anime now who is always seen after battles checking his stats now we wouldn't have any information on now for me if his little Hut was invisible but we're in luck because from levels 1 through 2 the anime decides to be generous and reveals not only now for me starting HP but how much he gains through a level up with a little math we find that amount to be a consistent 25 now gaining 25 hit points for every level up in D&D is a crazy amount if we want to get even close to that number our only option would be to read up on a few dozen manuals of bodily health which give us permanent stat increases but instead of doing that let's take a look at things a different way what if the HP we see in the shield heroes world is over exaggerated and when converted into D&D would be lower now hear me out we get some solid proof of this idea in episode 2 we are now filming me trough Talia the young six slave girl Roth Talia represents the lowest possible base stats that a character in the shield heroes world could possibly have and for the sake of this video I'll be using her as a measurement to judge just how strong the shield hero actually is so Roth Talia starts as a level 1 demi-human her base HP is 117 pretty high considering that now who music was 142 but it gets more interesting the missed comparison from Roth tally in D&D would be the commoner stat block seeing as in the description for commoners slaves are a good model commoners in D&D have 4 hit points on average if we take RAF Talia's 117 and divide it by how much health commoners have we can get the average amount of health a single hitpoint in D&D will cost from the shield heroes roam with the calculation summing up to twenty nine point two five to translate all of that into human speech that means for every twenty nine health a person has an alpha meas world they'll have one health in D&D now this is going to be super important to our bill today because by calculating now Foom use maximum health we can learn what level he'd be in D&D and the skills that would be appropriate to give him the last time we see the shield hero stats in the anime is when he hits level 73 which is the final time his level is ever shown on screen if the shield hero starts with the base health of 142 and gains 25 HP every level that didn't mean that at level 73 he'd be in a whopping 1942 health his sounds impressive but let's convert that to health in D&D since one hit point is equivalent to 29 health and shield hero were left with now for me owning a less than impressive 66 health pool let me explain very rarely do we ever see now when we take legitimate damage in the anime sure the occasional rabid porcupine or spear hero will get a good job at him but aside from that the man is a beast at avoiding injury but health means nothing if we don't have a class so what are we gonna pay well now Fumi has a close connection to animals and plants along with skills and enhanced crops and make it easier to tame giant chickens on the flip side though almost all of now whom his relevancy comes from his shield magic and protection spells since more of our magic comes from the arcane rather than nature and with a health pool as small as ours we can abuse the leveling system of D&D by jumping headfirst into the wizard class with a negative warning Constitution and our hit points capped at sixty six twenty one levels worth of wizard will snag us an HP of sixty five also for any spells that our wizard class wouldn't normally allow us to learn we'll tag them on as abilities that can be cast through now for me shield it's going to have a lot of little details that I won't be going too far into with this video so check it out in the description below if you're curious one immediate concern when wielding this special shield is now Foom ease weapon violation curse from now until forever we're bound to this magical item and using other weapons is strictly forbidden our first level in wizard grabs a snafu meas plant improving skill but wizards don't get first level spells that can enhance crops or do they distort value would say otherwise with a flick of the wrist we can make objects appear a more valuable than they actually are snagging better prices for otherwise mundane items a bit criminal in nature but the first few episodes of shield here are weren't exactly filled with good ethics from levels 1 through 5 now who meas utter disgust with the world had him lose taste in any food or drink he would consume funny enough we can replicate this in D&D by using prestidigitation to give our meals a bland tasteless appeal this multiplies our edge factor 3 times over and is crucial to our existence as the shield hero probably our magical abilities will stem straight from the arcane tradition war magic allowing us to use reactions against attacks to gain armor and even more armor when we're concentrating on spells which for the sake of this build will be all the time off to character traits now whom we can understand every language spoken him so by wearing the helm of comprehend languages we can cast endless at-will spells to always understand conversations the Hat itself looks hideous though so ask your DM if it can be flavored kill click some spiky anime hair and he'll be all set in a fight scene with a giant tree now for me was able to magically break free from vines that wrapped around him in this example we would have had access to the spell of freedom of movement to easily escape non-magical restraints and traverse over difficult terrain in another scene now when he flexes his ability to disarm magical objects dispel magic would work well here so let's grab an and move on now for our background now when we was known to be a hermit he spends all of his time secluded from society reading light novels and playing video games so the Hermit choice suits both him and every other main shut-in protagonist pretty well even better Hermits get proficiency with herbalism kits which will be important in the types of ways will abuse plants in the parts to come what do all hermas have green thumbs I'm seeing plants in this room now for me explain yourself our herbalism kit will allow us to do a lot of things like make medicine for sick and ventured slaves craft potions or in our case enhance potions and modify plants in one case now for me changes the structure of a seedling to grow a bunch of ripe fruit although it would probably take a bit of time experimenting in D&D as opposed to mere seconds in the show enhancing plant could definitely be possible alright passive skills down now to our shield magic the most iconic shield enough when we uses is called airstrike shield airstrike is a type of floating shield that acts like a barrier against enemy attacks and is used less often Lee to block advances from clingy raccoon girls there's a spell in D&D that we can flavour to mimic this called wall of stone we can create 10 by 10 foot panels of rock that a clique defensive barriers against sacks the next shield type that comes to mind is B steel rebuke it's like hellish rebuke which were also getting for this build except when an enemy fails hit you with an attack a beast spawns from now from your shield and goes ham against the attacker a simple way to make this work could be by casting the spell conjure animals as a reaction to being attacked if an enemy tries to back away now they'll be bitten by whatever creature you summoned and if they don't back off when your animals take their turns they'll bite your enemies as well it's a win-win regardless now who me second most reliable shield in the anime is called shield prison a spell which creates a large dome of metal and chains surrounding a creature nearby it's pretty simple in nature and the spell or deluxe resilient sphere resembles it nicely then it shield on our list is the Chimera viper shield unless you were paying some really close attention to the anime like I had to this shield is pretty forgettable the only plus of having equipped would be for casting the spell protection from poison if you're poisoned you're now not poisoned in future poisons have a harder time poisoning you did I mention it helps with poison voice Gengar shields is another type of skill that rarely appears in the anime in is to situational to ever see again in D&D however now for me shield will turn into a megaphone that can destroy the eardrums of any creature sorry enough to stand in front of it a good spell pairing for this skill would be thunder wave as it blasts out in front of the caster it emits an audio baboom up to 300 feet away now the let's go on our list is the Soul Eater shield normally this shield is capable of sapping SP or skill points out of whoever it bites letting now fool me recover a zone in the process so the big concern obviously is that there aren't any spells in D&D that allow us to steal energy vampire ik touch lets you steal health but that's not the same thing so homebrewing this up will give Nathalie an attack can't rip that can steal one of his opponents first little spell slots if it hits sounds powerful right well not really considering that most battles start off with using higher-level magic and if you're stealing first level spell slots then you must be pretty desperate meteor shield is the last shield type in Naomi's basic arsenal holding his shield skyward to block incoming attacks a sphere of protection covers both himself and a sizable space around him we can flavor this skill around the spell wall of force with objects creatures and magic being incapable of penetrating through with all the main shields covered now we can finally head into now whom use magic skills in shield hero magic is different from shield spells but for D&D I'll just be lumping the bolt together the first magic now whom he knows is fast heal it doesn't take very long to cast and is often used to bring targets back on their feet healing word fits the bill nicely and with a bonus action the cast can keep your options open during a fight the second and only other spell we see now when we cast in the show is called fast guard which is able to raise an allies defense a few levels major armor is a simple spell that can do exactly that the spell only works in armorless targets though making novel Me's chicken companion to phyllo the perfect target so with me all right good now we can get to the strongest abilities in our shield arsenal the heats three these abilities were unlocked by a phony shield after he went through a few episodes of intense psychological torment we can consider that unless now whom he goes through something similar in D&D that this tree would normally be unlocked so go out there and get yourself some emotional trauma kiddos what makes the hatred tree so powerful are the offensive base spells at now when we can finally use no it's not fireball your little wizard casuals beer olace style here as the shield with our first skill being the classy Iron Maiden in order for us to pull off an IR made in in Sedin d we'll start by casting shield prison around our target after they're good and stuck we'll use our new creation spell to make an iron maiden around the dome afterwards true to the anime will break the concentration on shield prison and cast levitate to pick the maiden up where will then proceed to yeah that's pretty gruesome anyway next haste kill on the list is now foamies agro based hate reaction in the anime this ability is mainly used to draw anime acro funny enough there's a spell in D&D that works exactly like this called sympathy a spell forces all creatures of a particular type to gang up against you not really smart considering your negative one Constitution wizard but that's the spell regardless now for the final and probably most gruesome skill we have ourselves the ominous blood sacrifice as the name entails now for me sacrifices a large chunk of his health to someone a giant mechanical bear trap under his target all right maybe that last part wasn't very obvious this big ol trap would spring out and bite whoever it summoned under forcing them to make a save against your magic or be caught in between the teeth just like the Iron Maiden and we can use our creation spell in a similar way to forge a large based metal contraption under our target I used a bear trap as reference and set up different amounts of damage it could do based on how heavy the trap is interestingly enough you could pull this entire charade off while going completely by the pH beam but since the skill has a lot of downsides that effect now for me personally it would only be fair to implement the blood sacrifice part of the spell firstly 3/4 of your maximum health is sacrificed from material components along with all of your remaining spell slots and after everything is all said and done you'll fall unconscious at the end of your round with four levels of exhaustion sound cruel enough yes anyway that's the shield here Oh Andy Andy for you so hope you all enjoyed the wait I have to be forgetting something right yep here it is now full Me's ultimate ability the skill that sets him apart from all the other heroes what has helped him in countless battles and has never let him down the truly powerful ultimate ability rope shield yeah it Sookie was right when he said that shield are suck well on a better note you should be glad to
