hello everyone welcome to job skills shared or again this video we are going to set up domain controller and join computers to domain now before I start this video if you're watching this video from anywhere YouTube or any other places this is a course so we sometimes talk about some of the things that we teach but we don't go in details because all the OU courses are hands-on real-world scenarios type courses so this is what you were gonna do the last video we install install windows 2012 server r2 basically it is nothing without all the roles and features when we say domain controller and then we say something like DHCP DNS server these are the features that are there are being offered roles and features are being offered by this computer it's basically that's why they call it a server so that it can manage other computers or other resources or things like that the computers that you use at home Windows 8 and Windows 7 those are specifically made for users they just browse you can do things you can share files but they're not as powerful as servers servers are just specifically made for so everyone else can use these resources from this machine and one of the main part of this is going to be a domain controller so what it does is it's a centralized management type of computer so all computers are connected to your server and you as a server administrator or IT support specialist or anyone you who have basically this job is assigned to them to control other computers you can do it from here you can add the computer you can reset accounts you can delete computers you can disable the accounts you can reset password for people this is what what it means by when you say Windows Server or you can do other things with it so this is what we're going to do to make it fully functional and this is why we will need to install domain controller on the server so a last video we installed today we were going to set up a domain controller so let's go to a lab which is this and this is our server that we installed in last video there's nothing in this server so we are going to turn it on and we are going to go to over console right click in console all right so our server is getting started right now as you guys can see so this is the first screen on the server there's nothing in it we are going to give it a password so that's the password and to do all control delete kind of thing in via memory SSI you can just ctrl alt and hit the insert key and you should be able to do that insert so we are in the server this is the first time we are logging into this server right now it's nothing it's just a computer with no services being offered to other computers you can't manage other computers if it's there's a few things that we haven't done yet so it's basically a normal computer is you can do browsing and things like that but you really can't do anything else so that's what we are doing it we're making a domain controller so now you can think of a small business let's say someone you know have 10 computers they are on a workgroup they just bought it and then they came to you you're an IT version say hey can we centralize this management can I manage all these computer computers from one place and I'm looking for a Microsoft solution so this is what we are doing we are using a Microsoft solution we are using a Microsoft server we are going to create this as a domain controller and then there that 10 computers we are going to manage it from this machine that's what we are trying to achieve from this computer to do that we need to set up this computer first so first what we need to do is let's go ahead and make sure we have full view so then we can mess around with the settings up a little bit so alright so the first thing you need to do is you need to wait for a few abouts they have minutes so then everything is running correctly you just need to make sure so what we need to do is to change this computer name domain controller when you decide what you need to name it you cannot change domain computer and the main control name once you have done everything so you need to make sure what do you want to name this computer a lot of people will call the VC one domain control one or if they have another domain control they'll call it DC 2 so this is what you will get the first time and we're gonna go ahead and click on change setting as you guys can see it's on workgroup we need to change that and we are going to basically name it DC one alright so now we are going to click OK and you need to restart this machine will do that and when we restart I'll pause my video so then we can save some time alright we are back on all control and so let's do it the password and we are back in the system all right so a few things you need to change when you are doing this left now remember we are not basically we are not doing a real infrastructure type of domain so you know you would need IP addresses and things like that we are just trying to play around with make it simple normal domain controller for a lab and then play around with connecting clients to it and things like that we're trying to learn things what's inside the server we're really not doing anything in at a very network level like we're not really deploying a lab that is a kind of a real-world lab we're not doing that right now so that's why I'm not going to touch any IP addresses and things like that I will just show you guys how to work it out so you guys can't make it normal domain control so you guys can learn DHCP DNS and things like that before we jump into real world solutions so first thing you need to know you need to make sure your time is correct so double-click on this right here click on change time and settings and as you guys can see specific Pacific time us-canada I'm going to change that to my time that I use eastern US Canada I'm gonna click OK so I changed my timings now what I need to do is I need to change the IP addresses because I want to give it a static IP address and you can give the same IP addresses what what it's getting it from my router right now so what you need to do is you need to do CMD IP config and just do this a 192 168 1 dot 252 so right click on this little computer sign click on open network and sharing center and then click on Ethernet over here you can just click on properties and go to ipv4 we go and basically uncheck ipv6 we don't want to use ipv6 at this point so go ahead and go to properties and then name it it's 192 dot 1 1 6 th that 1.2 52 so we are going to do that and the rest you can keep it 255 255 0 and a default gateway you can give it the same gate whether we are getting it from here 190 168 1.1 192 168 1.1 now DNS is important because you need to have a DNS for it to work usually a lot of people will give it the same IP address over here and there they will put the IP address but another way is to do this 127 0 dot 0 dot 1 ok now what what are you present is a local host IP address now if for example someone just comes in just in a real world or maybe in this lab someone comes in here and just change this or make it a DHCP or something like that and this changes the IP address and if it's not matching this IP address and something is not real correct the DNS is not correct nothing will work so you need to make sure if you put 1 2007 dot zero dot one then any time this IP address has changes you don't need to worry about this that's pretty good stuff to know so go ahead and click OK and we're going to close it we're going to close this now we already we did our basic you know in changes and stuff like that what we need to do right now is to make it a domain controller if you click on Tools there's nothing in this server right now it's basically useless so what we need to do is we need to create make it a domain controller to do that you need to click on add roles and features click on next click Next the first option and this is correct dc1 this is what we want to name click Next and here you will click on Active Directory domain services as soon as you click on it you will get all these other features you will need this so then we will click add features now everything left yeah you can just leave it on everything default whatever is checked in there just leave it on next next and click on install all right so once everything is done you will click on this little option right here promote the server to a domain controller since this is a brand new domain controller you will click on this option add a new forest and click on root two main control names basically what you want to do is this you want to name this something like headquarter Corp so we're gonna do a headquarter dot chopped Skillshare dot that's our domain controller name we're gonna click Next a lot of people keep this short because if you do PowerShell kind of things it's gonna give you a lot of trouble if you have a really big domain naming or something really hard these passwords are used for recoveries and things like that which we will discuss all this when we do our first planning for real world planning we'll discuss all that what wouldn't what you will need as a DNS server we will do everything in a real environment but right now you just need to follow these to kind of play around and get used to it get kind of kind of get the idea of what domain controller is and then when you start playing around with these servers when you get everything so you're so comfortable with servers and all these options that's where you can just dig deep and try to learn more so keep the HQ in there small it's fine we can leave that we were going to need this HQ when you start join the computers to the domain you will need HQ so that's a lot of people would put HQ jobs go straight out or put something like that at real world but we don't want anything bigger since it's still talking to Internet this might mess up things so then you will get this this is very important you don't want to change this you don't want to mess around with these some of them this is a database and with them work will keep the group policy things and stuff like that so this is very important stuff just keep that over there click Next and then you have another option which is right here we've script this is a PowerShell and this is why why I say that you guys need a good easy names because you know when you do partial scripts you need to type these things and like I said if they're big and really hard ones and it's gonna give you problems when you guys type things but you can copy the script and if you have ten more servers you can just drop that script and bam you have it without even doing these steps so that's how they give you a nice little sweet strip in there so what we need to do is click Next here and we are going to install our first remain control all right so you get all these the yellow thing this don't worry about it click Next all right so everything is done this computer will this server is going to be restarted now and then we will have our first Ming I told her where we can add our clients and stop playing around with it all right so our first domain controller is ready and when you see this HQ backslash that means things are good we are going to log in with the same password username and password so you will see Active Directory DNS in a few seconds right here a DDS DNS so right now everything is ready we need to check if we can go to click on Tools now and see if we can see something different there you go so when you click on now this is where you can start managing other computers you have Active Directory users and computers and we're just gonna go ahead and now open it and right here you guys see HQ Java cachoeira org and then here you can add computers you can add users right now so let's go ahead and add a first domain controller a domain administrator I'm gonna go ahead and click on new user and we're close me this could be right now if you're working this could be one of your network engineer and that's how he was added before he started working in that company so I'm gonna name it decon decon and then after that I'm gonna give it a password so they said this is the only administrator in this small company and he needs to add other accounts now he has ten more computers and we're gonna use one example so let's say ten the first person he is going to add to this domain control and start managing computer is the CEO of this company and he just you just went there you fixed his computer you done everything you installed everything is like a brand new computer and now it needs it's ready to get managed so that's how you are going to be adding it now so let's go ahead and get to the computer first so we're gonna go ahead and go back to our lab and we're gonna click on Windows 7 let's say he's using Windows 7 he is sitting in a nice big office and we are just going to add it to the domain controller so I click Windows Start Windows normally so let's say you're you're setting his computer up for the first time and this is what you will be doing okay so we're going to name this computer Super Man just click Next I should have put a password in there but that's fine we're just gonna ask me later timings important very important you know the main controller back to your directory they're very sensitive on time so make sure it matches what your domain controller so I'm gonna pick work Network all right so we are on that machine this is just random computer and we need to join the domain you could click on start properties right click on computers go to properties you will see this and this is where it tells your workgroup we need to change that to change settings we're gonna change it here and click on domain and here we will type DC sorry HQ and click enter and this is where you got prompted I mean it's good because one thing you want to do is to let's say for example you don't get a prompt you want to make sure that can you even access that domain controller so you go and just ping it 192 dot 168 1 dot 252 252 and then click enter and then tells you that it's basically good because 0 personal loss right here and it's prompting mean that also tells me that it's working so what I want to do here is this I'm gonna use that domain remember we added our network engineer here's the domain administrator he's sitting in the CEO office and he's joining this to the domain now so he's going to use his name in the password that we gave him now when you put a wrong password it's gonna your message that you know something is wrong maybe there's some other issues too we'll find out in a second right now but these are the things these are probably the normal things that you will do kind of like it's a is the same step for each time you get a new computer okay so if you get this message and it didn't say about password being wrong and there's something else that's not right and that's mostly a DNS issue so like I said you guys don't need to worry about things like that but you need to add it to our domain and without DNS getting dns fixed it won't work so what we need to do is open our network sharing center here and go to Local Area Connection and we're gonna go to properties and we'll click on ipv4 properties we'll leave everything the same we'll just use the following DNS we are going to use the same IP address of the server 1.2 52 and then try it one more time like I said we will discuss this because what we want to do in real world example we don't want to put DNS name and we just want everything to be getting it from the server so then you don't have to do this part but for this lab its required right now so we're going to do 182 168 1 252 just click OK close it close this so we're gonna go back click ok and let's try it one more time and see what happens if this fails then there's another trick to it also but if it's working and if I put a wrong password it's going to tell me that the password is wrong so that's it that worked password was okay it like I said it's gonna give you that error so we are on a domain controller right now but this computer also needs to be restarted so then your domain controller will take over now at this point what you basically did you as an administrator created your own account you joined that person but that person will also need an account here so what you need to do is you need to right-click create that account and that computer if you come over here this computer has already added when you did that step this is where everything is getting added you can make your own groups and things like that you can manage through group policy which we are going to discuss in our next classes so that's basically part of it so if you go to a DNS dc1 DNS is right there and as you guys can see every every this is already created and as soon as we did the HQ that JavaScript share comm it would be we got it and we got a DC one this is the server DNS it's static right there and all of this stuff is basically important stuff right here okay so that's why we are going to in our next videos we are going to start learning about DNS how to make it so then you can be in a small business or medium-sized businesses how do you make your own DNS scopes and things like that how do you do DHCP stuff how do you do the DNS how do you remove a DNS how do you reinstall the NS how do you troubleshoot stuff like that this is a daily kind of thing for network engineers at system administrators because they work on this stuff all the time so that's what we are going to do in our next videos that's a little bit further though so let's go ahead and check our computer just restart it and like I said where you will see control-alt-delete that gives you indication that this is on the domain even though it says this is the Superman PC slash Superman is this PC you need to switch the user then it's going to be all logon to HQ which is my domain so if I put D hi and here and I put the same password and right now it's saying that it's preparing your desktop so now I'm logged in from my domain so basically this computer is managed this computer is managed by someone in your company so you log in and you see the icon here you can you will see other resources things like that the other way to check if your what domain because you might have multiple domain controllers so you can just do echo percentage logon server and then do that this tells you right there DC 1 is the domain control that you're authenticating yourself to because you might have a company that might for domain controllers and if you have some issues going on authentication and things like that you can check it with this and see which domain controller is giving you authenticate at that time sometimes you might have two for domain controllers two might be old ones you might turn them down and you might have some issues and things like that just troubleshoot there are other good commands and things like that we're gonna discuss later on when we start doing troubleshooting and make everything the right way this was just to show you guys how to install the magnet roller and add a client to the domain controller so now the question is this in the next video we're not going to jump into DNS and DHCP stuff we are going to show you an alternative to this also what if you don't want to use Windows what if you don't want to use Windows but you also want to have the same ability you want to have a domain controller here free open source or whatever you're gonna call it's like free doesn't cost you licenses and you want the same way clients adding to the domain controller and managed centrally there are solutions that are Linux based but there are very graphical solutions so that's what we're going to show you exactly same alternative if you're not if you're not comfortable with Microsoft then you can also go for the that's what we're going to show you in next video how to do it we're going to do the same example install the domain controller and then add our client to that domain controller thank you for watching this video see you guys hopefully you guys learn something and I'll see you guys in a different section of this course thank you
