I'm Garvin Thomas. We're on early because of the US open golf tournament. We got a lot to tell you about this busy Friday. A security guard was shot and killed and another man was stabbed inside a Bay Area drug store. It happened at the CVS at the Hub Shopping Center in Fremont late last night. Now police are trying to sort out exactly what happened. NBC Bay Area's Damian Trujillo is at the scene with more Damian. Well, Garvin, a lot of rattled nerves here at what's known as a Fremont hub, a strip mall on Maori Avenue in Fremont. This afternoon, police are still trying to piece together what exactly happened in the overnight hours. Customers who showed up today at the CVS looking to pick up their prescriptions or other medicine, or perhaps do some other shopping instead found the store closed signs at the front door only said it was a temporary closure. We did see employees inside the store this afternoon. The closure comes after a security guard was shot and killed around 11:00 last night. It happened during what police say was a confrontation with another man. They're not saying much about exactly what happened, except that the security guard was shot and killed, and the man he was confronting had been stabbed. That man was taken to a local hospital. No word on his condition tonight. Today we spoke with a woman who stopped by the store to drop off flowers at the front door. She says she knows two guards who work at the CVS, and isn't sure which of the two has been shot because police are not releasing any names yet. They really helped us out and he's always welcome us when we're here. So I just wanted to bring the flowers here so they know that we appreciate their work. Dana Thomas says she works at a nearby store and is worried because she says they get shoplifters all the time and notes their rule is to avoid confrontation and let the suspects go. Again, it's unclear tonight if the shooter at the CVS was a customer or was shoplifting. All police will say tonight is that this was a deadly confrontation and that the investigation continues. Now, in a statement this afternoon, CVS said that the guard worked for a company called Metro One. CVS says it is providing counselors to the employees here today and they are cooperating with the investigation.
