Scripture Seeds - Luke 6:39-42 - Let's Dive Into God's Word Together!

welcome to scripture seeds a time to get into god's word together to share what it is that he's placing on my heart in hopes that it inspires you to let him speak to yours i am no theologian biblical expert or historian i'm simply here to share what it is that i am hearing from the lord in my own prayer time in hopes that it may move your heart in some way or even inspire you to do the same so let's get started [Music] hi everybody welcome to another episode of to grow good this week we're diving into scripture together as part of our mini series scripture seeds we're going to be diving into luke chapter 6 verses 39 through 42 but before we get started i have a couple updates to announce you all to announce for you all i'm so excited about them um first of all scripture seed sessions blog is that what it was you know but something just didn't it wasn't like sitting quite right on my heart for a while and i i didn't know i was like um i don't know something's not quite right about the blog but i feel like this is what he wants and then it just clicked one day that devotions were just the perfect way to invite these other women that i've journeyed with into to grow good in such a beautiful way that we're already reflecting on scripture here at to grow good on a regular basis so why not invite other women to do that same thing reflect on scripture and have it connect to their everyday lives their own walk with god um so i'm really exciting started starting this sunday october 3rd the first one will be released which i wrote i'm really excited about that and then every three season two is going to be coming to a close um at the end of october so we have a couple more episodes left but for season three i've really begun discerning what it is that i feel like god is going where he's trying to take this what he wants for this and i felt it placed on my heart that more conversion stories more often and is that something you agree with would you want every tuesday to be able to listen to a new conversion story rather than every other tuesday as we've been doing um however i'm at my max i'm at my capacity it's just me doing all this and there's so much that goes into it and there's so many costs associated with it all um so i really cannot do it without your support if something like that sounds like yup i want more conversion stories more often there's no problem getting guests i have a long list of people that already have expressed and wanting to share their story on to grow good and then i also have a whole list of people that i want to ask and invite on to the show to hear their story so there are no um issues getting new guests and new conversion stories the only issue is my capacity to be able to keep up with what god's putting in front of me and that includes both financial costs time costs and technology gaps and things like that so that being said we have a support goal here to reach 50 monthly supporters but in time for season scripture let's do it uh so this week we are going to be diving into luke chapter 6 verses 39 through 42. and he told them a parable can a blind person guide a blind person will not both fall into a pit no disciple is superior to the teacher but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me remove that splinter in your eye when you do not even notice a wooden beam in your own eye you hypocrite remove the wooden beam from your eye first then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye oh my friends this is such a powerful one i mean there's so much here there's so much depth here but as always when i was praying with it and really just offering it up to god and asking him to reveal to me what it was that he wanted me to get from this um when i was when i first encountered it along this journey through luke there were a couple things that that really just stood out to my my heart and my mind one of them was just that first line can a blind person guide a blind person will not both fall into a pit no disciple is superior to the teacher but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher i just think i i think sometimes we i i don't know if you're if you relate to this but i feel like i've heard the second part a lot you know the broth the splinter and the brother's eye remove it from your own eye first but the context is so important because right before that he's talking about how we can not be our own source of knowledge we cannot be our own source of knowing what is right or wrong we cannot guide other people because it has to come from god no disciple is superior to the teacher and and then he goes on to talk about the splinter in your brother's eye you first have to remove your own but how how can we remove our own you know because i think sometimes too i've heard that and it's like oh i got to remove the splinter from my eye how do i do that you know what i mean but it's like god's explaining to us right here that it's by encountering him by loving him that we are able to heal so it's by following the lord by following god by following his word by by encountering him in the sacraments receiving him in the eucharist that is going to heal us so that we're able to remove splinters from our own eyes rather than looking to our brother or or all the other things wrong around us we first we need to be healed by the healer by the source of all love and goodness and truth and beauty he is the source so we go to that source to be changed and i don't know it was like it was like it was all clicking in my head in such a deeper way and i just felt compelled to ask the lord like make me more like you lord help me to become love to help me to grow in love and it reminded me just like how at mass during the offertory so often i feel this invitation to not only lay down all the intentions that i have on my heart but also to lay down my very self everything in me my mind my tongue my thoughts my intentions my desires i lay them down at mass at that part at the operatory um and i just tell them to make me like you make me like your perfect love for me to you and i think so often if we skip this step we we feel lost and frustrated and confused because we're basically being told we have splinters in our eye but we don't know how to remove them but it begins with this relationship with him and that realizing that none of us are superior to the teacher and so it has to come from him it cannot come from anywhere else and in order to know him we have to spend time with him in prayer in the sacraments just immersing ourselves in the presence of god so that he can change us he can begin to get in there to our hearts and make them new and it was when i was praying with this that i just heard him like so often for me i don't know it's like for for all of you but so often for me it's like this one line that i'll just hear so clearly on my heart and i know it's him because it'll be a one line just really short succinct but it will just answer so many things all at once somehow i just know it's god when i hear it um and i just heard him say loving me will change you i just think that's what this these verses are all about that it starts with loving him it starts with encountering him that's when we can begin to make sense of the world that's when we can begin to make sense of what's going on around us and that's how by being changed by him we can be lights in this world and then go out to these relationships that he talks about with your brother we have to begin with him because no disciple is superior to the teacher okay my friends that is what's on my heart this week that is what i have for you i hope something you heard just moved you or helped you and maybe it encourages you to want to encounter god to go to him and offer yourself up offer everything that you have put it into his hands and trust that in doing that that's what's changing you that's what's making it possible for you to be able to even
