[Music] breathe underwater with total freedom back sound awesome [Music] [Applause] [Music] no problem wow that's even better I've always wanted the total freedom to just swim anywhere but without all that tiresome training with scuba gear I just want it simple and easy I can do it in my thong it raised over a million Aussie dollars on Kickstarter and not to be outdone almost two million dollars on IndieGoGo this sounds amazing so where's my scam essence Tigran well let's take a quick look at some numbers on the beautiful model here is simply going to pump all of the air that she needs into this little bottle which I'll give her ten minutes or so underwater sounds so easy and fun well a human breathing takes about eight or so liters per minute without exercise of course that's just a rest so for ten or so minutes that's gonna be about 80 liters she's gonna have to pump 80 liters into that bottle using what looks like a really quite tiny pump now let's be generous and say the piston air is about one centimeter by 1 centimeter and they drawer of the pump is about half a meter long we'll come back to why it's so small in cross-section in a moment and she's happily pumping there at the rate of about one stroke per second so let's see that's gonna be about 50 milliliters per stroke 50 milliliters per second meaning she's gonna be pumping away like that for about the next half hour oh but that's just the start you see when the bottles empty the air in the cylinder is at atmospheric pressure so it takes almost no effort to put the first 50 milliliters in however whence the pressure in the bottle has doubled to 2 atmospheres to bar she's gonna have to pump down about halfway before the gas starts going into the cylinder however the pressure in that cylinders could have get up to about 200 bar 200 atmosphere which means that by the time she's finishing she has to compress it over 99% to get that last little bit of air into the cylinder which is insanely hard work in fact I'm not even so sure if she was sitting on that piston she could provide enough force to get the air into the cylinder whatever let's do a little calculation air pressure is the force per unit area so we know the area it's about one centimeter by 1 centimeter but we need that in meters squared so it's about one ten thousandth of a meter squared so what force would I apply if I sat on it well the force that I would apply is my mass which is about a hundred or so kilos times by the acceleration due to gravity which is about ten meters per second squared so the force I would apply by sitting on this is about a thousand Newtons on one ten-thousandth a meter squared now one atmosphere of pressure is equal to about ten tons on a meter squared that's ten thousand kilograms per meter squared or a pressure of 100 thousand Newtons per meter squared or as I've referred to it in shorthand in this video one atmosphere of pressure which is about one bar and takis you'll get about two square meters of skin that means the pressure on your skin due to the atmosphere is about 20 tons so long story short if I would put my entire weight on this one square centimeter I can only compress air down to about 100 atmospheres in pressure flyweight girl here we'll be lucky if she can get half of that 50 or so atmospheres into that canister meaning that she's not gonna get 10 minutes of air but just over 2 minutes of air don't believe me well it turns out these pumps have been around for a while mostly for filling things like paintball canisters can guess what they're bloody hard work as this review suggests going from 0 to 3,000 psi so that's about 200 atmospheres and about what you would have to fill the score was a workout and not for the faint of heart although suffering from a bad back [Music] my wife tried pumping from two-and-a-half to three thousand psi but couldn't get there it takes a lot of strength and all weight to get up to 3000 psi which is actually pretty close to my calculations where I reckoned then you hit up to about half of that just by sitting on it now obviously you can apply more force to it than that but it takes a lot of work and this is why you have the small cross section to the piston the smaller the piston is the easier it is to get a higher pressure out of it but of course the less volume you pump with each stroke of the piston you can get an estimate from it from another review here they say that they're gonna fill up a 68 cubic inch storage bottle that's about a one liter bottle to 1,000 psi that's about 80 bar total volume that it's holding is about 80 liters that's comparable to the skorca and that they say takes about 250 pumps which at one per second is about four minutes but that's only going up to about half the pressure thats corkle says that it's going to if you want to double the pressure in something it takes about twice as much energy so optimistically for someone who's fit you would be looking at about 10 minutes exercise to actually fill one of these bottles but even worse than that these pumps have oil the thing about using air for paintball canisters is you don't really care if there is oil in the air you do care about that sort of thing if you're breathing it which brings us around to the next obvious thing swing underwater without scuba gear [Music] the hell do you think this thing is anyway it's a baby scuba tank I mean that's all scuba gear is a self-contained underwater breathing apparatus which basically consists of a compressed air tank and a pressure balancing regulator this Kickstarter thing here is basically a ripoff of an idea that's been around for at least a decade a baby scuba tank solders spare yeah one of the most common options that I hear people ask about is spare if very very well-made very dependable very reliable easy to use relatively inexpensive three or four hundred dollars would get you a good spare air system the problem is that only three cubic feet so home what's wrong with that three cubic feet square there nothing you're right it is better enough but not much Oh some knows them in the diving community three breaths till death the problem is it from a hundred feet it's going to take about two minutes to get to the circus three cubic feet will only land with less than a minute at 100 feet so the devil called you with this particular system is its size no there's a reason why you shouldn't go anywhere near scuba gear without proper training because you can die really quickly underwater nitrogen narcosis oxygen toxicity improper bottle fills pressure injuries regulator failures if you get into trouble underwater things can go south quickly now this thing is billed for using shallow water which gets around a lot of the gas narcosis problems but not the gas expansion problem I mean remember when we were compressing the gas into the bottle well that's pretty much what the water does so if you go down ten meters in the water all of the weight of the water there is acting like a piston on you and it compresses the gas in your lungs by a factor of two but this is where it gets tricky you see the main reason that you breathe out is to get rid of carbon dioxide and that just matters on the volume that you breathe out and seeing as you're now breathing out gas at twice the rate if you get out ten meters your gas consumption goes up by a factor of two and if you go down to 20 meters it gives you a power factor of three and so on in fact let's just take this to its logical conclusion just just for an example if I go down to a hundred meters that means that the pressure in my lungs is gonna be about ten bar just to give you a feel of what 10 bar looks like if I get a regular polyethylene terephthalate pop bottle and fill it up to about 10 bar this is what it looks like that's the pressure in your lungs at a hundred meters but if I would stick that that pop bottle with 10 atmospheres of pressure in it down to 100 meters in depth it would feel like a regular pop bottle if I bring into the surface different story this is why it's reckoned that the minimum safe depth for coming to the surface without equalizing the pressure in your lungs without breathing out is about 3 meters I'll just read the wiki summary breathing gas a depth from underwater breathing apparatus results in lungs containing gas at a higher pressure than atmospheric pressure so a free diver can dive to 10 meters and safely ascend without exhaling right so the reason that safe is because they have 1 atmosphere pressure in their lungs they go down and the gas in their lungs compresses by a factor of 2 so their lungs shrink down then they'd swim back up the gas expands again whereas a diver who inhales at 10 meters and the sins without exhaling has lungs containing about twice as much gas at atmospheric pressure and is very likely to suffer life-threatening lung damage if you service rapidly during real danger of pressure damaging your lungs now go down to 20 meters 60 odd feet and your schuylkill won't last 10 minutes because you're using gas three times as quickly it'll barely last three minutes or remember our political girl here in her bikini who with her schuylkill with 50 atmospheres in it she's only gonna get about 30 seconds at this day now go down to a decent scuba territory and you can start to understand what many divers call this sort of thing three breaths till death now let's give schuylkill a little credit here they've to kinda have a warning you know underneath that freedom to swim anywhere headline yeah then quite add that all her claws there but if you don't know what you're doing you can very easily end up killing yourself in fact this was the concern of many who know the dangers of scuba diving is a device like this can lure people into a false sense of security I mean look bottom line at 10 meters this thing is almost pointless anyway because you're only gonna get about five minutes air out of it with no pressure gauge to tell you when it's your last breath actually I kind of take that back because they do claim that they're gonna put a pressure gate on this thing but it's gonna be terribly much use because you're gonna have to take it out of your mouth with no safety straps or anything to check the pressure gauge and it's basically gonna be useless for telling when your air is going to run out you know when you try to breathe in and there was just no air left in this cylinder it's got all the dangers of scuba diving on the cheap without any of the benefits look regular scuba gear you get a regulator a spare regulator a lot of air if you get a few minutes of air through a single unmaintained regulator which is just held in your mouth that's the only thing that secures it you drop this your air supply is gone no harnesses no nothing he'll ever divers tell me that you can get draw fatigue even with proper diving gear let alone one where you've got to hold the entire cylinder with your mouth plus there's a reason why divers have things like dive computers depth gauges tank pressure gauges and they're mandatory when diving this experience was won by many tragic deaths now if you know what you're doing the diving isn't actually that dangerous it's comparable dangerous to driving however if you don't know what you're doing you can get into trouble and dive really quickly underwater which is why most countries around the world require you to get a diving license now when I first saw this thing we just get what two ago now it had raised about a million dollars on their glitzy Kickstarter and another two million on IndieGoGo I mean let's take the IndieGoGo campaign which was completed almost two years ago with the promise that they would start shipping within about four months of the campaign completing and here they are over a year later still making excuses as to why they've not done anything I mean just take a look at some of the comments from three months ago lawsuit time for this idiot scammer these has been delayed two years too long I demand a refund or a lawsuit is coming your way Merry Christmas I ordered this with what was supposed to be plenty of time wanted this for vacation four months ago all the delays will Bacchus be getting a discount or a credit towards items accessories in your online store no reply Merry Christmas David please issue me a full refund thanks hello please refund my money now you might recall me saying that this is almost exactly the same thing as spare air which has been on the market for over a decade which makes some of the IndieGoGo campaign comments the IndieGoGo campaign that raised almost two million dollars even funnier now the timeline on IndieGoGo was comparable to that on Kickstarter it was fully funded about two years ago except rather than shipping them within four months they were gonna be shipping them within three months and boy other comments some doozies so this was 17 days ago now can't find schuylkill on amazon see lots of spare air devices which is something completely different you can't feel lose with a hand pump what is ironically right next to a hand pump which you can buy on Amazon although not for about $200 but for about $50 and here's just a flavor of their most recent comments hello how can I get a refund what about the February update whether the goods will come IndieGoGo really is the worst crowdfunding most campaigns I never receive anything and no one is answering IndieGoGo does not care and as soon as I try and organize the people here that I've been conned my message gets deleted thief I was ripped off now seeing what looks likes corkle sold on eBay and Amazon for delivery now for less than what I paid on the IndieGoGo campaign what gives we've been waiting a long time and still nothing you claim there are delays because of certification and testing to be done this products been on the market for 30 years stop reselling other company's products I want my money back I want a refund it seems like you're just looking to get money and no product for us so just refund my order but let's just come back for a second to our guy who was so proud that score chol was completely different than spare air because it could be filled with a hand pump well yes if you're willing to go through the ten minutes of hard exercise it can in principle be done buts corkle also advertise that you can fill it from a scuba tank at which point you could have asked yourself well what the hell's the point of that then wasn't the whole sales pitch that you didn't have to take all the scuba gear with you now you need a scuba tank man if you got a scuba tank why not just put the regulator on that and just use it like say for instance a regular scuba setup first of all notice it's a small tank this is nowhere near the size of an 80 this in fact this tank is 19 cubic feet spare air was three cubic feet right so in they raised three million dollars three million dollars to develop a product that's been on the market for decades a product which has been widely rejected by the experienced scuba diving community as almost useless and their sung it to recreational users who have no idea of the hazards of scuba diving so that it can be exposed to the hazards of scuba diving Oh Plus don't mention that it's currently being sold online for about one third of the cost of the Kickstarter under the name smacko for about one hundred and sixty dollars that sort of thing while the people who paid some six hundred dollars for one of these things through the crowdfunding are still waiting to get theirs meanwhile my genies idea of infinite free power using Hyperloop tubes still hasn't passed its funding threshold over me hundred thousand dollars one thirtieth of the money that people through but the skorca if a large enough heat engine was built and operated merely a ten percent efficiency and see what this does for us boom absolutely ballistic almost instantly it would supply a hundred times more clean free power than the entire power consumption of mankind and virtually real numbers oh you Falls you Falls for merely one thirtieth of the price of this corkle I could have solved the world's energy crisis if only you weren't too cynical so I hope you enjoyed that and if you did be sure to give this video a thumbs up and make sure that you don't miss out on new content by subscribing and hitting the notification valve and as ever if you really enjoyed this and one sport is channel I don't think that's how pressurized air tanks work.

where do these stupid backers keep coming from!??!

It's been covered before from a safety standpoint. Namely, it's been shown that the product can be unsafe if it performs exactly as claimed in untrained hands.

Years of human evolution, and we've come to throwing money at this.

There's like a million reason why this wouldn't work. For example, compressing 35 litres of air into that tiny thing with a manual compressor to breathe for just 1 minute.

Why has Kickstarter made it so hard to report scam projects -_- Ok, kids, I reported it for prototype misrepresentation, because it's a visual aid, not a working prototype.
