so so we welcome you to the national shrine of divine mercy we are in the second day of the divine mercy novena and after we pray that and have a reflection talk we will pray the chaplet of divine mercy and afterwards the first saturday devotions will begin saint faustina's prayer for sinners o jesus eternal truth our life i call upon you and i beg your mercy for poor sinners o sweetest heart of my lord full of pity and infallible mercy i plead with you for poor sinners o most sacred heart found of mercy from which gushed forth rays of inconceivable graces upon the entire human race i beg of you lied for poor sinners o jesus be mindful of your own bitter passion and do not permit the loss of souls redeemed as so dear a price of your most precious blood o jesus when i consider the great price of your blood i rejoice at its immensity for one drop alone would have been enough for the salvation of all sinners although sin is an abyss of wickedness sin and gratitude the price paid for us can never be equal therefore let every soul trust in the passion of the lord and place its hope in his mercy god will not deny his mercy to anyone heaven and earth may change but god's mercy will never be exhausted oh what a man's joy burns in my heart when i condemn blade your incomprehensible goodness o jesus i desire to bring all sinners to your feet that they may glorify your mercy throughout endless ages amen the divine mercy novena the second day today bring to me the souls of priests and religious and immerse them in my infallible mercy it was they who gave me strength to endure my bitter passion through them as through channels my mercy flows out upon mankind most merciful jesus from whom comes all that is good increase your grace in men and women consecrated to your service that they may perform worthy works of mercy and that all who see them may glorify the father of mercy who is in heaven eternal father turn your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in your vineyard upon the souls of priests and religious and endow them with the strength of your blessing for the love of the heart of your son in which they are unfolded in part to them your power and light that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing of grace to your boundless mercy for in this endeavor in amen this is the second day of the divine mercy novena and in the second day of the divine mercy novena we bring in prayer the souls of priests and religious to the infinite mercy of god i think saint faustina has a key passage in her diary for why we need to bring the souls of priests and religious to god in prayer in her diary saint faustina writes about experiencing mystically the prayer of a priest and this priest is most likely father michael chapucho the saintly priest who was the spiritual director of saint faustina in her diary paragraph number 1534 she writes i saw a certain priest's efforts in prayer his prayer is similar to that of the lord jesus in the garden of olives oh if that priest only knew how pleasing to god that prayer was so saint faustina sees by the grace of god mystically sees father michael cepacho she sees him in prayer sees him surrendering to the will of god just like our lord jesus christ in the garden of olives of gethsemane when our lord says not my will but your will be done us priests and religious each one of us and really all persons of all states of life each and all are called by god to surrender our wills to god's will to conform our wills to god's will to ultimately unite our wills to god's will in this surrendering to god's will is the honor and glory of god in this surrendering to god's will is the good of souls and the good of the church we prayed just moments ago in the divine mercy novena prayer which is the prayer that our lord gave to saint faustina to pray and it is in his voice he says found in the diary paragraph 12 12. today bring me the souls of priests and religious and immerse them in my infallible mercy it was they who gave me strength to endure my bitter passion through them as through channels my mercy flows out upon mankind it was they they referring to priests and religious religious meaning persons consecrated to god by living vows of or promises of poverty chastity and obedience religious sisters and brothers our lord says it was they priests and religious who gave me strength to endure my bitter passion faithful priests faithful religious gave strength and consolation to our lord during his passion however we cannot please the lord or give him consolation in his bitter passion unless with the help of god's grace we lovingly surrender to god and his most holy will we need to pray for priests and religious to intercede for priests and religious so that they have the graces of strength and wisdom so that they they can lovingly surrender more and more to god in his most holy will our lord also says in this novena prayer the following words he says through them as through channels my mercy flows out upon mankind through them them again referring to priests and religious priests and religious cannot be truly fruitful and effective channels through which god's mercy flows out upon mankind unless the priest and religious have hearts minds and souls surrendering to god and his most holy will in all things and completely more and more united to god in his most holy will that is why we need to pray for priests and religious in this novena prayer reference is also made to priests and religious also performing worthy works of mercy and also guiding others in the way of salvation again priests and religious cannot perform worthy works of mercy and also guide others in the way of salvation unless and to the degree that the priest and religious with the help of god's grace are conformed to and surrender to god in his most holy will saint faustina in her diary in addition also writes a prayer for priests paragraph number 1052 she writes o my jesus i beg you on behalf of the whole church granted love in the light of your spirit and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts may be brought to repentance and returned to you o lord lord give us holy priests you yourself maintain them in holiness o divine and great high priest may the power of your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests may the power of your mercy o lord shatter and bring to naught all that might turn us the sanctity of priests for you can do all things saint faustina prays that our lord give us holy priests and we might add holy religious divine mercy flows and streams from jesus's heart but it flows through the words in the hands of his priests as well as consecrated religious through the words and hands of priests we receive life-giving sacraments and through the words of priests and religious they offer up our prayers in a special way through the words and bodies and souls of priests and religious they are called to give of themselves for the honor and glory of god and for the good of souls and the good of his holy church we priests and religious need prayers just as much if not more so than married and single lay faithful so that we can give to you and for you and for the whole church and you can give to us and for us and the whole church all of us in the mystical body of christ the church called to holiness of life holiness which is an essence holiness which is an essence surrendering to and conforming our life to god in his most holy will his will which is love and mercy itself the chaplet of divine mercy in the name of the father the son and of the holy spirit amen you inspire jesus but the source of life gushed forth for souls and the ocean of mercy open up for the whole world o fount of life unfathomable divine mercy envelope the whole world and empty yourself out upon us o blood and water which gush forth from the heart of jesus as a fountain of mercy for us i trust in you o blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of jesus as a found of mercy for us i trust in you o blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of jesus as a found mercy for us i trust in you our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be god in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent but with great confidence submit ourselves to your holy will which is love and mercy itself amen a prayer for divine mercy o greatly merciful god infinite goodness today all mankind calls out from the abyss of its misery to your mercy to your compassion o god and it is with this mighty voice of misery that it cries out gracious god do not reject the prayer of this earth's exiles o lord goodness beyond our understanding who are acquainted with our misery through and through and know that by our own power we cannot ascend you we implore you anticipate us with your grace and keep on increasing your mercy in us that we may faithfully do your holy will all through our life and at death's hour let the omnipotence of your mercy shield us from the darts of our salvation's enemies that we may with confidence as your children await your final coming that day known to you alone and we expect to obtain everything promised us by jesus in spite of all our wretchedness for jesus is our hope through his merciful heart as through an open gate we pass through to heaven amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit at this time we give thanks to god and for jesus christ in giving us this novena said between good friday and east divine mercy sunday as we today and day two bring these intentions before our lord we ask for the intercession of our blessed mother mary this being the first saturday we implore the grace given to us through the gift of your mother our most blessed mother mary and we come to fulfill the con the requirements of the five first saturdays we during this time heed the words of what was said at fatima to the children and what sister lucia gave to us that as our lord's heart has been wounded by the sins and ingratitude of mankind and last night on the first friday we made a reparation to the most sacred heart of jesus let us continue this day of prayer before the celebration tonight of the easter vigil that we can make reparation to the immaculate heart of mary for the wounds caused to her heart for the blasphemies caused to it her heart is sorrowful and wounded these blasphemies against her immaculate conception her perpetual virginity her divine maternity confusing children by turning children against the beauty of their mother and against sacrileges through statues of our blessed mother let us make reparation for these blasphemies against the immaculate heart and these wounds that have caused such pain in our lord the purpose of today is to make reparation to mary for these blasphemies against your immaculate heart what are we to do we ask you join with us as we lead you through the requirements which consist of going to confession if you have been able to go to confession if not we ask you to make an act of of contrition the catechism in 1452 tells us that if you are not able to go to confession so that you may be quarantined you may have coronavirus or your church may be closed you can make an act of spiritual contrition and we will lead you through that then we are to receive holy communion which we will lead you through an act of spiritual communion we will then recite the rosary and i will then lead you through a meditation for the fourth requirement of 15 minutes or briefly a little bit more on the meditation of the mysteries of the rosary mary's promise quote tell them that i promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for the salvation of those who in order to make reparation to me do the above conditions on the first saturday of five consecutive months at this time as we engage into an opportunity to ask our lady to join us and our lord to forgive us our sins we begin with making an act of contrition if you have not been to confession asking our lord to forgive us of our sins oh my god i am heartily sorry for having offended thee and i detest all my sins because of your just punishments but most of all because they offend you my lord who are all good and deserving of all my love i firmly resolve with the help of your grace to sin no more to do my penance and to avoid the near occasion of sin amen at this time if you are not able to remember that act of contrition the right of the catholic church tells us that we can make this simple prayer called the jesus prayer lord jesus christ son of the living god have mercy on me a poor sinner at this time we will also make an act of spiritual communion this act of spiritual communion is done in lieu if you are unable to make it to sacramental communion and in an act of spiritual communion we ask our lord to please come into our hearts as if we did receive him in the sacrament act of spiritual communion and thanksgiving again if you do not know this prayer you can join us by just opening your hearts and letting these words sink into your soul my jesus i believe that you are present in the most blessed sacrament i love you above all things and i desire to receive you into my soul since i cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally come at least spiritually into my heart i embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself holy to you never permit me to be separated from you so now having completed an act of contrition just telling the lord that you are sorry please do not fret you can make this prayer from your heart in your own words just saying lord jesus christ have mercy on me a poor sinner having completed the spiritual act of communion again please do not fret but just ask the lord to come into your heart as if you did receive him in holy communion we now complete the last two requirements which are reciting the most holy rosary and meditating on the mysteries one or more of the mysteries at this time we ask you to join us as we pray the most holy rosary [Applause] in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen we offer this rosary for the protection of human life from the moment of conception until natural death we offer this rosary for all the members of the association of marian helpers both living and deceased and for all the intentions of those who have asked us to pray for them and for all of our own personal intentions we offer this intention in this mass for the end of the coronavirus for the overturning of roe v wade and the protection of the dignity of all human life we offer this rosary for the the upholding of the sanctity of marriage between man and a woman and an end of the redefinition of the falsehoods of what is not marriage we offer this rosary for the preservation of religious liberty that our nation will be protected against atheistic atheistic ideologies that are determined to destroy the freedoms of religion upon which she was founded we ask that you join your own intentions in this most holy rosary i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who is conceived by the power of the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered under pontius pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended to the dead on the third day he rose again he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of god the father almighty from whence he shall come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of promise through the same christ our lord amen saint michael the archangel defend us in battle be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil may god rebuke him we humbly pray and do thou o prince of the heavenly host by the power of god cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the rune of souls amen may the divine assistance remain always with us may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of god rest in peace amen in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen having fulfilled already our requirements of the most [Music] blessed and immaculate heart of mary for the first saturdays we started with an act of contrition just telling god that we are sorry continuing with an act of spiritual communion asking our lord to join us in our hearts as if we did receive him in the sacrament and finally we prayed the rosary now our lord asks us to meditate for 15 minutes on one or more of the mysteries so it was given to me meditation written in the 1800s so while the language might be a little non-modern the beauty and the sentiment is so we ask that you join us in this last part to fulfill our lady's request of first saturdays we will begin with two meditations or we will do two meditations today the fourth and fifth mysteries of the sorrowful mysteries jesus carries his cross and the crucifixion jesus carries his cross while jesus is conducted to the place of crucifixion he falls on his face several times under the cross he is forced to carry a few compassionate voices are heard saying alas he dies but no he saves the little strength that remains until it shall have been entirely spent on that bitter cross when he rises from his fall he is all covered with mire and blood on the right and on the left the crowd enjoy the spectacle and barbarous and cynical reflections are cast upon him all at once there is silence then a pale and tottering woman supported by pious and friendly females is pointed out she braves the fury of the executioners and the soldiers and with faltering steps approaches the condemned in a low voice some murmur is this his mother a poor woman and others say blessed are those who have never been mothers if their children should come to this pitied insulted rebuffed mary is now with her son oh what a heart-trending scene bathed in tears the virgin mother cast herself kneeling at the feet of the holy victim and embracing him cries out o my son my dear son and jesus in a trembling human voice answers o mother my dear mother the sad meeting lasts but an instant for mary crushed with grief falls fainting into the arms of the other holy women o mother of sorrows have you come must you not have foreseen that this meeting would grievously aggravate the pain of your dearly beloved without doubt our divine master is afflicted at seeing the grief of his mother but he is also profoundly consoled at the public testimony she gives of her love she braves contempt and anger to come to him and when nearly the whole world condemns and curses him she strives to cover him in her devoted heart uttering these words i adore thee and i love thee cruel executioners now you may insult and strike him jesus has found in meeting his mother compensation for all your injuries for all your barbarities jesus looks for the same consolation from you o christian soul in the dolores way which impious men still mark out for him just now you resolve to protest against the injuries heaped upon your savior by the secret homage of faith and love this is something but it is not enough show yourself openly to be on his side trample underfoot all human fears and make manifest your religious beliefs before the world in all circumstances it is cheap and easy love that feasts itself on greatness that has no enemies but it is noble and glorious to take part publicly with the persecuted the friends of the unfortunate are the only true friends are you then of that easy going class who believe and adore jesus in the depths of the heart yet who for his sake will not defend him these people are mute before blasphemers as if god were no more than a stranger to them as if their faith was a weakness to be condemned from all eyes but once i say christians let us openly manifest ourselves let us console by our eternal homage and our religious sentiments the offended heart of our savior that is why we are here that is why we do the first fridays and the first saturday's devotion this is why we have done a clarion call to all of you around the world please spread this message because right here in this incredible meditation this author whoever he or she is is saying that our lord has been wounded to console we are to console by our homage our religious sentiments to the offended heart of our savior and whose heart is standing right next to him wounded the immaculate heart of mary this is why we are here if the insured if the church invites us to some manifestation of faith and love let us obey her let us listen to her let us respond to her the enemies of god will be less bold if they see us on the side of him standing with one another if all of us christians stood together in defense of our faith yes but most of all in love of one another then the world would know we are christians that's what converted the world in the time of roman persecution was the roman people the pagans could not believe how the christians loved one another in many ways we have lost that let us listen to these meditative words and ask for us to bring back that love the enemies of god desire to establish god's festivals and to despise his friends who has to weaken them it was so in the days of long ago but god is prepared and asked that we stand with him to console him in his heart for these are the prayers that got our lord through his most bitter passion jesus told saint faustina that it was the prayers of priests and religious and what did we hear father matt just talk about today bring to me the souls of priests and religious we need holy priests we need devoted religious this is what our lord is asking you to pray for you today this all ties together all of this message is one this message of the novena that father anthony has brought to you today to bring to you from the shrine of divine mercy the second day of the naveena asking for you to pray to priests and religious per our lord's request this is what we are to do because it is the prayers of those priests and religious that jesus felt in the garden that allowed him to endure his passion this shows god is outside of time you might think well that was 2 000 years ago father i can't do anything now for our lord and his passion yes we can our sins way down the cross on his shoulders our virtues lifted up joined with priests and religious to console the heart of jesus and standing by his side the wounded immaculate heart of mary this is the message and then our lord's dolores way to calvary will be in truth and become triumphant that's the last line of that meditation let us finish our time of meditation with the station excuse me the fifth mystery which is the crucifixion o ye who pass by the way and attend at golgotha seeing jesus hanging between heaven and earth begets in his dilords a new race and elect people a holy family for the family to be complete it must have a mother behold her a woman in tears takes her place at the foot of the cross as we read in the stations of the cross see the mother stands deploring by the cross her tears outpouring where her son expiring hangs she is there to express more strongly the power of the will which united with her united her in the sacrifice of her savior she is there to receive more keenly in her sad and desolate soul the rebound of the sufferings of her well beloved the inexorable stroke of that award with which she was threatened on the day of the press presentation in the temple for her gentle spirits groaning anguish smitten and bemoaning rowed the sword's most cruel pain held by two loves the love of her son and the love of christian humanity she decides in our favor can you imagine mary's faced with the love of her son and the love of humanity and she doesn't forget us her love for her child the fruit of her womb urges her to ask for him the favor of heaven remember it is her only son in whom there is question she has only him her only son he owes his life to her alone but however tender profound and unutterable the love of the virgin mother may be her love for us forces from her holy soul a fiat by which she conceives us and makes us spiritually born of her to the blood which flows from the wounds of her savior to the death which presses on to the final scene the awful drama of the crucifixion to the torments which she herself endures she still answers fiat fiat let it be done let it be done but jesus does not wait for the final issue of his sufferings he presents to mary the entire human race in the person of saint john saying to her woman behold thy son and to the human race he presents mary saying behold thy mother o virgin most amiable virgin most pure to give a new life to a sinful world you were obliged to participate in the pains of the tragic child bearing indeed without pain you brought forth your child jesus but like any but like another eve you could not bring forth children of regeneration without feeling the effects of the male diction pronounced against the first eve thou shalt bring forth children in pain genesis chapter 3 how would you have been able to exercise your rights of mother over the human race if you had not acquired them in the same manner as jesus acquired the rights of a father let us meditate on this sweet and consoling thought mary is our mother she is our mother and we are the children of her dolores compassion is not this sufficient to tell us how much we ought to love her sorrow is the mysterious cause of the love so tender and so profound that unites the heart of the sun to the heart of the mother and when he finds out the history of all the tears all the anguish all the pains that his birth into the world cost her his love is enhanced all the more this is our message for good friday all the pain all the sacrifice that we endure in this valley of tears as we just prayed in the rosary will be wiped away we'll be gone when we reach our destination of heaven but the way to that is to jesus he's the only mediator there is only one way to the father that's jesus and many people say to me father why do you catholics pray to saints there's only one way to the father it's jesus yes he is the only way to the father but there are many ways to jesus we can get to jesus especially through our loved ones through our family through each other through your neighbor through your brother your sister but most of all through mary and the church which she is the mother of the church mary is our mother for us her children according to the law of grace she sacrificed her child according to nature is not this enough to explain to us how much confidence we ought to have in her the great mercy with which her heart was filled on calvary pursues us still it encompasses us on all sides and covers us with maternal protection in our anguish she consoles us did you hear that she consoles us so we can console our savior the sacred heart of jesus and the immaculate heart of mary she consoles us let us console her she assists us in temptation she comes to our rescue in the death of sin she watches over us night and day mary watches by the soul dead in sin to prevent the infernal beasts and birds of prey from devouring what remains of our wretchedness jesus pointed out to saint faustina that we are wretched he didn't mean that to make us look and disdain ourselves or self-loathe no not at all he did it to tell her that without him we have nothing everything we have is because of god and everything that we are on our own is nothing it's misery but the medicine to misery is mercy jesus wants us to see our misery so that he can have mercy on us and mary plays a role in that she lovingly awaits and strongly excites the motives of grace by which we are pressed forward to seek refuge in her arms finally last few sentences mary is our mother she opens her wounded heart to us this is the same as to say that every indulgence and every indifference that may offend her can be wiped away in her mental through the grace and forgiveness of her savior and our savior to accept with resignation the trials of god even if we have not the courage to seek help we must and the greatest act of trust is accepting the help that god gives us and the promise of a savior and the gift of a mother are the help god gave us after the fall mother of holy love make me feel the full force of your sorrow that i might weep with you unite my tears with yours my compassion with yours that i may be able to please you as we finish this time of meditation let us spend but a second as we finish now with a few brief prayers asking our lady to walk with us on this way this delores way that we may find at the end of that path as saint faustina tells us ultimate joy [Music] as we finish this first saturday's devotion we will finish with a couple fatima
