And that's what blunt damage is all about. Taking two 12ga 00 Buck rounds to the chest won't punch through something like a PACA but you have at least a broken rib, possibly more than one. Same thing for soft armor taking pistol shots: you're going to get hurt, but it's better than getting holes put in you.
It'd be cool if we had something that used NIJ 3A plates instead of soft armor. I think the UNTAR is supposed to be something like that but I can't find any real world info.
Eveytime armor is bought up I like to tell this little story.
During WWI, helmets just got implemented and the generals were complaining about the hiiiigh ammount of head injury their soldiers sustained, before the helmets, the severe injuries were never this high.
The answer to that was that before the helmet the soldier would just die instead of getting out of combat with an heavy injury.
So what body armor does (from light to heavy)? it saves lives, does it make the soldier able to keep fighthing after he got shoot badly? sometimes, but mainly is to help the soldier to just not die on the impact of the bullet.
Even if it is pretty realistic, this is still a game, if it was 100% realistic, nobody would ever use anything else than shotguns in closed areas (You need a couple of buckshoot pellets to be pratically out of order) , but those have other kinds of problems that in a videogame are minimized (like you saw the hassle the russian has to go through to reload a saiga? )

When they expand the health system to include knockouts, I imagine armor being way better at just leaving you disabled, instead of dead, will be worth it, as your
sinus("sinus"?, wtf phone) friends can finish the fight and either bring you back to your feet, or drag / carry your ass to an extraction, rather than trying to dump your gear in a bush and pray for insurance.Feels like no matter the armor, some pellets will go around. That can't feel too good.
this is why i dont understand why kirasa is 70 durability and has almost the same blunt damage as say an untar?
Kirasa should put through at least 30% of the damage that it takes.

You wouldn't feel anything on a level 4 and above armours.. as they spread the energy of the rounds, check youtube
