Ryan Gosling Describes His Audition for the Mickey Mouse Club | Letterman

uh i found this remarkable tell us who's in this picture ryan okay uh um that's uh tj fantini and that's tate i forget tate's last name nikki deloach that's the justin timberlake he's the young upstart in the business i think he's gonna got a real future christine aguilera britney spears wow and that's ryan reynolds that's very impressive how is it you got in in that group don't tell me about that when did that happen how did it happen i have no idea how that happened i mean they regretted it pretty quickly after they hired me how do you even get in that i auditioned i was uh uh wanting to be a dancer so i uh all the girls in my class were all dance were auditioning so i did two and somehow i got on wow and then when they hired me they realized that i couldn't really dance or sing i wasn't talented so they stopped using me on the show but did did you uh this was a television show it's the disney it's the mickey mouse club theater right yes and you where did they do it in florida they shot in orlando florida did you did you you're not from florida are you no i'm from canada whereabouts where are you from where what town paul shaffer yes you're you're a legend aren't you where are you from in canada i'm from cornwall ontario cornwall of course southern ontario isis you know canadians have a like a bit of an ocd oh yeah right if a famous canadian is mentioned they have to name all the famous canadians they can think of and uh paul's always the first one after everybody whoever is mentioned and then lauren greene right after me lauren green and uh james naismith invented basketball oh canadian i had no idea that he was canadian how about that yeah uh so now you move how from canada ontario do you get down to orlando um well i went with my mom and we moved into a trailer park called yogi bear park why is it called yogi bear park because it was outside of disney and it needed a theme i see everything in central florida has a theme then i guess right yeah yeah have you ever lived in a you know you have not lived in a trailer park how was that well there's a class system in a trailer park and i don't like your tone um if i don't know i don't know okay if you have uh wheels on your trailer that you are looked down upon and if you uh have no wheels on your trailer it's stationary you are considered you're really living it up you're living the dream and a lot of people have they cover their wheels with siding but it's just the size of the wheel so you can tell that there are wheels there they're posing yeah and that's what that's what we lived in what uh uh when did you move to new york i just moved here like a month ago oh congratulations how's that going you like it here it's the best city in the world i love it i like a lot of things about it i like um well there's some some of the prettiest women i've ever seen in my life here absolutely and uh also because it's so hot it they kind of appear to you like a mirage [Music] and uh and then they're all screaming into their cell phones i passed by a girl the other day and she said i know i know i should have just given him a cigarette for a banana i could be in dubai right now [Laughter] you were uh nominated for an academy award as as a young actor or even any aged actor that what a thrill that must have been huh yeah it's like still yeah what what do you remember about the uh the uh situation the occasion the occurrence uh uh peter o'toole hit on my sister really pretty pretty hard actually no kidding yeah and and how did that go he just went like this he went come to me my beauty yeah and it was kind of like dracula summoning a lady she just she's not that he's dracula but the way that the women sort of just like she was under his spell myself and uh and then he did it for what i felt was too long and then i uh i said hey you had to step in i said you know peter a big fan you know you're you're a legend but you gotta get your hand off my sister your hand off my sister and then and then and then he uh he leaned down because it was it was outside and there was all this oscar confettis it was like tiny little oscars and he leaned down because we both lost and but but i thought there's nothing cooler than losing with peter o'toole sure i felt like i won yeah and then he he gave me a piece of oscar confetti and then he said i'd like to present you with your oscar oh that's very sweet and then he said i have one too uh-huh and then he said cheers and we cheers our little oscars what a story your hands off my sister [Music] you
