nintendo officials themselves which is wild um i think the the prize on offer for a charity of our choice i think it's 25 grand that's on offer and it's to do with placement as to how much you raise uh i'm on a team of six uh i have dahi i have brian aka terrorizer i've got cake jumper i've got sam strippin and i've got candy evie and we are gonna be taking on the competition it's like i think it's eight teams or six and i get to be team captain of one of them um so the drift monarchs are going to try and clean up it's wild i think it's 150 cc it's the tournament format i think it's single single robin elimination or something like but there's like two brackets i i don't know i can't remember [Music] but it's mario kart and as like a little extra thing um and this will be a bit weird on the stream side of things which is why i'm asking if it's coming out okay uh they want to pull me in for an interview before the the tournament starts so at five o'clock i gotta hop on um to join the host of the actual event uh just to say hey which is wild um i don't think they know i'm going to be in my suit or whatnot they're probably going to be a bit weirded out and it probably won't under that guy's rearing to go for the [ __ ] tournament they probably won't know what the drift game even means for back in college i'm they're gonna be very confused but i'm excited to move it up in the world like ah look like we've got formula one backing us we got our name in forza horizon nintendo is backing us for an official mario kart tournament like i don't know what's left at this point we we've made it as far as like our racing career is concerned we've got all the support we just need like the actual mercedes sponsorship at this point the drive of gla honestly that's what we're there's a few different teams morbius that's not what i said hagrid no guys please they're not from my neck of the woods uh but it's an eu based tournament rubius the spanish i believe so what charity you given to if you win i believe the charity the lads picked was movember so that's who we're gonna support uh they do fantastic work for men's mental health you'll probably know them from their campaign drive every november in regards to growing a full head of facial hair uh but they do work all year round because mental ohio is important the uk isn't in the eu well europe-based you know what i mean we're mostly irish i believe because i everyone on the team is irish i think by our candy evie who is just pure uk um but that's okay that's okay pizza in our time is team brexit oh no [Music] i got to be careful doing them on the interview to not start mentioning stuff like that as well i don't think i got to be mindful uh papa nintendo is here i believe uh because they're heck of a lot of money for charities so not just for our entertainment there's actually some money that's been made for some amazing causes so uh my name is tom deacon if you didn't know that already and i have to say that basically myself is very excited about this because i've never hosted as a twitch rival host before so will it be my last event we shall soon find out oh no tom and also nervous but two people they're going to help me all the way through the next four hours are the incredible casters we'll start with geo i watched her work at twitchcon she was incredible and now she is mario kart as well that was such a pinnacle of so many of our childhoods so to get uh at the right time thanks aaron is awesome and i'm very excited and i'm sure it'll be just as good as twitchcon tom oh perfect i can't help it when i get excited i get excited i want to get i sort of um amped up for this and a guy that will help me do that is an absolute delight working with her before it's the one and only mark with a c mark mario carter the casters are being introduced yeah mate tom joe it's an absolute pleasure to be casting this uh with you guys i just can't wait to go and see i want to say the carnage unfold mario kart is a very hectic game and honestly this is going to be an absolutely amazing twitch rivals event and i can't wait for you guys to go and watch it with us yeah we were chatting in a little bit of what we call in the business a rehearsal uh earlier on and geo mark is the avid mario fan but i'm going to ask you a a big mario fan yeah i mean uh we did talk a little bit about this uh before but i am definitely a child of the mario kart ds era i mean i am old enough to have played it before then but that was really the game that kind of defined it for me and i was always very jealous because i played it a lot on school trips but never actually over the cartridge myself so i relied on having friends so uh yeah that's my that's my main experience but honestly one of my favorite games in my childhood oh i know that feeling yeah because my mates all had it on the n64 and i'd be like can i come around can we can i just come round they're like no you came around yesterday mark for you tell me what's your love and where does it start for mario well uh i think i'd like to go and say i was practically born with a game boy advance in my hand so play the look at a lot of mario kart trips just like josh and uh honestly that's uh it's just it's too late to go back through all the releases and uh making friendships breaking friendships uh yeah practically that that's what mario kart's been for me uh sounds like a roller coaster up and down for you mark friendships uh scorns friendships come into your life but beautiful whether we'll see that today we'll find out for everybody watching right now this is how the format is gonna break down today at 48 competitors stepping up um and being in a team 18 which will be very exciting we'll break those teams down for you in just a moment and the event format will work like this this is what's gonna happen we've got two teams uh taking it to the track 150 cc uh items are on courses selected by creators and the twitch chat this is something that you need to get involved in there's gonna be a poll up later on where you can choose two of the tracks that our competitors will be racing on three laps is what we are racing on and in terms of what will happen after that we will have uh our basically our casters looking after everything and obviously it would be awesome so far happy with this does this does this compare to the nintendo ds days yeah well i i don't know i haven't seen it yet tom but i think one of the cool things that we didn't have in the nintendo ds days which we do have with this is that twitch chat involvement i think having other people be able to choose what tracks that you're going to be able to race on uh is one of the most exciting things because i want to see how much of the power factor is going to come into that you know like we have the tracks in the game that are like from the n64 days tracks from like the wee days 3ds days like i guess it depends zoomer versus boomer in the chat and how much that's going to uh influence things but i think that's one of the coolest things about it god damn yeah and uh later on uh mark is gonna be breaking down wave two uh which will soon be coming out with more tracks which we'll talk about but let's uh have a look at the teams then um we have got four to begin with in front of you now uh sardonia kiara daly card uh maluna and move mind so they are the team captains and uh i have it on good authority that they have chosen the charity that's the rest of their team will be competing to make as much money as they possibly can for uh geo any of the names stand out for you from twitchcon i mean i'm definitely looking uh on team cydonia kiara sobakuno uh suprema he is an italian streamer and i very specifically remember his duo playing on stage i was doing one of the irl challenges at twitchcon on twitch rival's ultimate challenge and just remembering this guy like running around the stage getting all worn out and trying to throw random little beanbags into pots and stuff i feel like just because of that i have to keep an eye on this guy yeah bring in the hype and they're going to introduce my team for him as well and for you this guy don't think he's going to do well for you today yeah so i've been keeping the keen eye out on ponce and what did urban describe him is is a bit of a menace with waluigi he absolutely knows how to go utilize those shortcuts and really strike fear into the hearts of all of his enemies so looking to go and see ponce today i'm pretty sure he's going to go and showcase quite a great showing and yeah a heck of a lot of fun from him so fingers crossed we're going to see that in action today yeah we're seeing some of the the action uh behind uh but uh one of the team captains is rt game uh the man get ready ireland and canadia combined uh is he one to look at your mic mark absolutely i think uh i've got a few questions that i might want to go and ask him as well so we'll see you'll see you know what mark we can do that right now because rtgame is joining us now known in the college days as the drift king sorry got excited how's it going it's lovely to underway but in terms of a competition like this uh hoping to win as much money for your charity as possible right yeah i'm mad excited for it we're supporting november for it uh just advocating for some good old mental health it's important i'm just i'm very excited to just be racing in general honestly like i think the whole premise of this is just really fun it's been a while since i played mario kart 2. um college was a long time ago yeah getting excuses in early are you noticing that mark there's a couple of excuses going in there already well look look we just need to cover our bases here okay all right like they used to call me the drift king back in college but college was a long time ago okay might have been a long time ago but why exactly were you called the drift king huh uh there was an official tournament called the drift king championships that i may have organized but i also won you know fair and square this doesn't sound good for me yeah the the more context i give the worse this sounds were you the only person competing as well uh no i was not i have been asked that before at least one other person i have a witness and the witness is one of my teammates she's racing with me today and she can confirm this is a real historical event that happened oh it's nice that you guys are still you're still like you know playing together all of this time later you got to bring back the driftking glory days thank you no i mean i'm honestly glad she's still playing with me after all this time that is good so we've got a drift king and a drift queen well no drift monarchs the entire team is drift monarchs in this one in this regard okay promoting them you know it's important okay good to know people love a little bit of royalty every now and again uh so what is going to be your secret for today uh to win the top prize my strategic plan is i hope everyone else in the entire tournament has forgotten to play the game i know that's an ambitious strategy but have like a shell or something to protect your backside with and the person in front of you who's on your team does tell them to let them let you go in front of them so they can protect from behind
