let's go to chapter 7 and we'll begin with verse 1 and this talks about the Torah of the married woman and this is an example that she'll uses to show us that we have died to the system of Torah observance for justification and we've been married to Yeshua and our justification is through belief in him Romans chapter 7 verse 1 or do you not know brothers for I speak to those knowing the Torah so he's going to talk to those who know the Torah the Jewish believers know the Torah that the Torah rules over a man as long as he lives for the married woman has been bound by Torah to the living husband that's what the Torah says about a married woman she's bound to her living husband but if the husband dies she is released from the Torah concerning her husband so then while her husband lives she shall be called an adulteress if she becomes another man's all right so as long as her husband lives she's bound her living husband if she marries another man while her husband is still living she becomes an adulteress all right but if her husband dies she is free from that part of the Torah so that she is not an adulteress having become another man's all right so if her husband dies then she's free to remarry and if she remarries she's not called an adulteress verse 4 so my brother's you also were put to death to the Torah through the body of Messiah you're put to death to this system of justification through Torah observance alone you were put to death to the Torah through the body of Messiah for you to become another's the one who was raised from the dead so that we should bear fruit to Elohim alright so speaking in particularly to the Jewish people who were married to the Torah when they believed upon Yeshua they died with Yeshua and so there was a death in the marriage all right so they died to the Torah because they believed upon Yahshua and then they were buried and raised as a new person and the new person then that's been released from the original husband can be married again and the one that they're marrying after being released from the Torah is Yeshua 2nd Corinthians 5:14 says for the love of Messiah compels us having judged this that if one died for all then all died so there was a death in the marriage and he if you had died for all that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised so there was a death in the marriage the marriage to Torah and the person who believes in Yeshua dies with Yeshua is buried and raised raised as a new person and so even that Jewish person who was married to Torah when when he or she believes upon Yeshua dies to Torah and can be married then to Yeshua alright back to Romans chapter 7 verse 5 for when we were in the flesh all right this is talking about the system of Torah observance for justification when we were in the flesh the passions of sins through the Torah we're working in our members to bear fruit to death all right so these evil inclinations that were in our members these passions of sin were working through tor in other words when when the Torah came it revived sin the the passions of sin want to break the Torah and they were working in our members to bear fruit to death but now we've been released from the Torah having died to what we were held by so that we should serve in newness of spirit and not in old nosov letter all right so we know there were a lot of death penalties in the letter and Yeshua paid the death penalty and so we now serve in newness of spirit and not an oldest of letter first seven what then shall we say is the tourists in let it not be however I did not know sin except through the Torah because Torah defines sin for also the covetousness I knew not if the Torah had not said you shall not covet that's Exodus chapter 20 verse 17 in Deuteronomy chapter 5 verse 21 but sin all right the evil inclinations of the flesh having taken the occasion through the command did work in me all sorts of covetousness for a part from Torah sin is dead all right so because of the evil inclinations of the flesh and you see the Torah the Torah says don't covet what does the flesh want to do it wants to covet verse 9 and I was alive apart from the Torah once but when the command came the sin of the evil inclinations in my flesh revived and I died because sin leads to death and the command which was to result in life if obeyed this I found to result in death because I disobeyed force in the evil inclinations of my flesh having taken the occasion through the command deceived me deceived me to what to disobey and through it killed me all right this is an allusion to Adam and Eve in the garden you know she saw the fruit that it was good for food you know pleasing to the eyes the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes the pride of life she was deceived she took and gave to her husband they ate and died as the scripture says so that's an allusion to that hallelujah verse 12 so that the Torah truly is set apart so your Bible may say holy the Torah is holy it's set apart and the command set apart and righteous and good you've heard me say before if we go around abolishing everything that set apart righteous and good what do we have left verse 13 therefore has that which is good become death to me let it not be but the sin the evil inclinations of my flesh that sin might be manifest or clearly revealed was working death in me through what is good the Torah so that sin through the command might become an exceedingly great sinner in other words that that sin might be clearly made known alright verse 14 for we know that the Torah spiritual so we've seen that the Torah is set apart it's righteous it's good it's also spiritual but I am fleshly sold under sin shall rule is saying the problems not with the tour of the problems with me it's with the evil inclinations that are in my flesh for what I work or what I do I know not for what I wish he wishes to obey the Torah that i do not practice but what I hate what he hates is to disobey the Torah that I do so we see that warfare going on on the inside of him there's this law this this dynamic of the evil inclinations that are within the flesh that stirred up by the Torah he wants to obey the Torah but because of these evil inclinations in his flesh his flesh is all stirred up and he gets deceived because he doesn't have any power over sin so he gets to see me he ends up doing what he doesn't want to do he disobeys 4:16 but if I do what I do not wish that's to disobey the Torah I agree with the Torah that it's good and now it is no longer I that work it but the sin the evil inclinations dwelling in me for I know that in me that is in my flesh dwells no good for to wish is present with me he has the desire he has the desire to obey the Torah but to work the good or how to obey the Torah I do not find for the good that I wish to do and what is the good he wishes to do to obeyed obey the Torah I do not do but the evil I do not wish to do he doesn't want to disobey the Torah this I practice and if I do that which I do not wish if I unwillingly disobey the Torah he doesn't want to but he does it anyway it is no longer I who work it or who do it but thus in the evil inclinations dwelling in me I find therefore a law or principle that when I wish to do the good when I want to obey the Torah that the evil is present with me for I delight the tour of Elohim according to the inward man what I thought shall abolish the Torah how can he delight in it but he writes himself right here in verse 22 for I delight I delight in the Torah of Elohim according to the inward man according to my spirit he's quoting psalm 119 verse 16 but I see another Torah or another law dynamic in my members there's something going on in my members my flesh battling against the tour of my mind which is my will and bringing me into captivity to the tour of sin this dynamic of sin which is in my members okay he wants to do right but he has these evil inclinations stirred up by the Torah he wants to obey the Torah but he finds that even though he wants to obey the Torah there's this evil thing this war that's going on within his members that's keeping him from doing the very thing he wants to do but I see another Torah in my members my flesh battling against the tour of my mind and bringing me into captivity to the Torah of sin the law of sin which is in my members notice what he says verse 24 wretched man that I am Who Shall deliver me from this body of death notice he didn't say what he said who this force of deliverance is not a what it's a who okay wretched man that I am see for anybody to receive this wonderful gift of yours favor through belief we have to come to the place where we realize that we are wretched that we are wretched people that that your best attempt at doing righteousness is like filthy rags to the Almighty because you have an evil inclination within your flesh that drives you to sin and that sin leads to death and because you want to do right but you're unable to do right and you continue to transgress and it leads to death when you come to realization of all of that there's only one thing that you can say the very thing that Sheol said o wretched man am i Who Shall deliver me from this body of death this body still talking about his physical body that has these evil inclinations that's driving him and deceiving him and making him do what he doesn't want to do that makes you a slave to sin that's why sin has dominion over a person who doesn't believe that's why they're their very best in their own natural strength is just filthy rags that's why trying to be justified by Torah observance alone won't cut it because he's speaking from the perspective of someone who wants to obey the Torah and he says as one who wants to obey the Torah who loves the Torah who says the Torah is set apart and righteous and good and spiritual he says the problem is not with the Torah the problems with me from that perspective of one who loves the Torah wants to obey the Torah when he realizes what's going on that the human race has fallen deeply into depravity and wickedness and twisted 'no stand sin and evil inclinations dwell within our our flesh and even though our will is that we obey the Torah we have this law of sin operating within our members that deceives us and drives us to do the very thing we don't want to do that is slavery and so he says knowing these things who shall deliver me from this body of death because what I'm doing is leading me to death and I need a deliverer well that that takes us to Romans 8 starting with verse 1 now you're going to now you're going to see the proper context of Romans 8:1 okay there is then now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah Yahshua he's talking about both believing Jew and believing non Jew but let's don't stop there let's continue on beyond the comma who do not walk according to the flesh or who do not walk after the evil inclinations of the flesh but according to the spirit for the taurah or the law of the spirit of the life in Messiah Yeshua has set me free from the taurah or the law of sin and of death that's the only way you're going to get set free from the law of sin and death that's why you must believe in Yeshua because only through belief in Yeshua do you receive the set-apart spirit who delivers you from this dynamic of sin that's in your members and liberates you then to obey and to walk in the rain of righteousness in your life there is then now no condemnation to those who are in Messiah schewe who do not walk according to the flesh you walk in the flesh if you want to but he says there's no condemnation for those who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the spirit for the taurah or the law of the spirit of life in Messiah Yahshua has set me free that's how I get free from the Torah the law of sin and death in other words living in the set of part spirit has set me free from the evil inclinations in my flesh that drive me to disobedience and death verse 3 for the tour of being powerless powerless to produce justification in that it was weak through the flesh or because of the evil inclinations of the flesh driving people to disobey elohim having sent his own son in the likeness of flesh of sin or in the likeness of our sinful flesh and concerning sin or because of the evil inclinations resident in our flesh condemned sin yeshua condemned sin or he rendered sin powerless in the flesh first for so that the righteousness of the torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the spirit what i thought shall rule abolish the torah he's not talking about the torah being abolished here he's talking about the torah being obeyed and the righteous requirement of the torah being completed and those of us who have believed in yeshua who are not giving ourselves over to the evil inclinations of our flesh but walking in the set of our spirit that he's provided who gives us the war to obey but not just the want to because Schaal had to want to he wanted to but couldn't but the power to obey and that's the difference some people just don't want to some people need to want it a lot of religious people just don't want to they think Yeshua has given them the license to lawlessness right but that's not what he's given us he's given us the set apart Spirit who gives us the desire to love y'all the way wants to be loved through obedience and the power to do it and the power to be obedient is the power over the evil inclinations of the flesh if you want to be obedient it's not about how great you are that your obedience it's not about some wonderful characteristic that you have the way that you can be obedient is that Yeshua provides for you the power over the evil inclinations of the flesh when he gives you power over the evil inclinations of the flesh then you are free to obey hallelujah tell somebody I'm free to obey notice it says in verse 4 so that this is almost the conclusion so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed your Bible may say the righteous requirement of the law the Torah has a righteous requirement and it's not saying that the Torah is being abolished or that lawlessness is being endorsed it's saying by believing in Yeshua you received a set apart spirit so that the righteousness of the Torah should be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the spirit sin was rendered powerless and the set-apart spirit provided so that obedience to the Torah could be completed in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the spirit so in Yeshua the goal is not to abolish the Torah but to obey the Torah to complete the righteousness of the Torah in that interesting that is such the opposite understanding then much of religion today verse 5 for those who live according to the flesh those who give in to the evil inclinations of the flesh set their minds or their wills on the matters of the flesh so if you're if you're submitting yourself to the evil inclinations of the flesh then your mind and your will are on the matters of the flesh you're hopelessly about the flesh but those who live according to the spirit the matters of the Spirit for the mind of the will of the flesh is death and lead to death but the mind of the will of the Spirit is life and peace because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim stick with me now we're getting close to the in here but this is so important because the mind of the flesh somebody that gives in to the evil inclinations of the flesh and your mind is on satisfying the desires of the flesh because the mind of the flesh is enmity towards Elohim it's an enemy of Elohim now why is it an enemy for it does not subject itself to the taurah of elohim the wicked evil mind it's all about the flesh does not subject itself to the taurah of elohim does that sound like the tour has been kicked out the fleshly mind does not subject itself to the tour of Elohim neither indeed is it able all right it's impossible for the fleshly mind to subject itself to the tour of Elohim and those who are in the flesh are unable to please Allah lean what does that tell us if you're in the flesh and your fleshly mind cannot subject itself will not subject itself to the tour of Elohim and your fleshly mind is not able to subject itself to the tour of Elohim and those who are in the flesh are unable to please Allah lean what does that tell us that obeying the Torah pleases Allah he verse nine but you're not in the flesh but in the spirit if indeed the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you have you really been born again have you believed upon your schewe have you allowed his spirit the Spirit of Elohim to come and live in you to set you free from sin or do you have a bit of religion there's a lot of folks that sit in congregations every weekend and they're filled with religion not the spirit amen that's not just Sunday church people that that can also be Sabbath attending people come on say man it's easier when you say men but you're not in the flesh but in the spirit if indeed the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you and if anyone does not have a spirit of Messiah this one is not here look at verse 10 and if Messiah is in you the body is truly dead on account of sin in other words the body will die because of sin the scripture says that death is the last enemy to be put under foot but the Spirit is life on account of righteousness so the Spirit gives life because of the righteousness provided by Yahshua and if the spirit of him who raised issuer from the dead dwells in you in other words if the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you he who raised Messiah from the dead shall also give life to your mortal bodies through his spirit dwelling in you and I see two possible applications here one by the spirit our physical bodies can be presented as servants of righteousness Romans twelve and one says I call upon you therefore brothers through the compassion of elohim to present your bodies a living offering or a living sacrifice set apart well pleasing to elohim your reasonable worship all right so before he's talking about o wretched man am i before before belief in yeshua he's saying this body is so filled with with evil there's nothing good that dwells within me and then after belief in yeshua and being filled with the set-apart spirit no longer is the body that the temple of sin but it becomes the temple of the set-apart spirit it still will die because of what a Dom did in the garden introducing sin into the world and then because of sin death if Yahshua Terri's we will all die but it doesn't mean that our bodies cannot be presented as members unto righteousness again Romans 12:1 says present your bodies a living what sacrifice our offering set apart well pleasing to Elohim which is your reasonable worship and so there's there's a bit of of a special dynamic that takes place that your body is not just one that is just wretched filled with evil but it can be through the Ministry of the Spirit it can be presented as a living sacrifice set apart and acceptable can you say Amen and then secondly the second application is that because we are messiahs and the Spirit of Elohim lives in us then our physical bodies will be raised from the dead that Yeshua's return amen he'll give life to our mortal bodies and this mortality will put on immortality amen this corruption will put on incorruption hallelujah verse 12 we're getting down to the last few verses so then brothers we are not debtors to the flesh don't live don't live according to the flesh it says to live according to the flesh in other words don't submit to the evil inclinations of the flesh for if you live according to the flesh you're going to die but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you shall live amen put them to death for as many as are led by the Spirit of Elohim those who have put to death the deeds of the body these are sons of Elohim for you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear that's talking about the fear of death according to Hebrews chapter 2 verses 14 and 15 but you received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry out Abba Father the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of Elohim and if children also heirs truly heirs of Elohim and co-heirs with Messiah if indeed we suffer with him in order that we also be exalted together hallelujah so this is good news is it not we do not have to be slaves to sin we do not have to allow sin to have dominion over us we do not have to live in a wretched state of being manipulated by the evil inclinations that are in our flesh that we can't believe upon your schewe because that's the only way we can receive the indwelling set-apart spirit we must believe upon your shoe and when we believe upon your shoe then he sends the indwelling set-apart spirit and I call the indwelling set-apart spirit the game-changer everything changes when the spirits on the scene amen all things pass away all things become new we are able to die to sin praise y'all we are buried with Messiah through the watery grave of baptism our hearts are circumcised we receive the want to in the power - and then we're raised to walk in newness of life as a new example as an example of Yeshua on the earth amen this is good news hallelujah praise Jah a man
