what's up guys welcome back to the channel we're  taking a look at Boulder's Gate 3 here running   on the Rog Ally and we're gonna mainly focus on  1080p some low maybe some medium and we'll take   a look at FSR and that type of thing here as well  hopefully the video at least give you an idea of   some initial impressions of performance and the  kind of settings I'm messing around with and see   if it's something you want to dive into but the  game itself is fantastic and launching it here on   the Allies pretty easy as well they have their own  launcher but even in Gamepad mode you just hit a   and it actually works for the play button sorry  not to switch back and forth or use the touch   screen which was handy here for screen capping  so I thought I'd mention that jumping into the   game itself we'll take a quick look at the main  settings I'm using which are pretty much what I   was using on Steam deck except for 1080p 16 9 full  screen no vsync on this does cause some issues in   game with vsync right now I'm just gonna forego  it and leave it off the game for now frame rate   cap I'm Gonna Leave off for this testing as well  however I do think this game can benefit from a   30 FPS cap on any of these handhelds we're going  to use the low setting with medium texture and   uh A2 for texture filtering and we'll have TAA on  and FSR on Ultra quality kind of where we'll wind   up for most of the way I'm playing this game and  I do tend to use 20 watts as a custom setting for   this as well which works pretty good for 1080p  15 is a little weak as you'll see in the video   25 the Ally definitely likes for the 1080p but the  20 is working pretty well too now in Camp things   are really well optimized so this isn't really  indicative of other areas of the game you're going   to run into that are harder to run that you'll tip  down into the 20s but I did want to show this off   now I do want to use this one area just to show  our GPU bottlenecking here not in a bad way we're   using all the resources here and at 15 watts and  what it looks like here from FSR off to Quality a   little bit of a boost there for our FPS of course  and then we'll go over to FSR on regular quality   instead of ultra quality another little bit of  a boost there however of course image quality   will get blurrier FSR ones not the best and fsr2  is coming for this game will test when it comes   out and we'll compare and that's going to be much  better but we do have fsr1 it does help to run in   1080P because straight native 1080p just not going  to be great now on medium settings FSR off 35 FPS   sitting here in a way really easy to run area it's  not viable that you'll be able to run that way out   in the game world and even with FSR Ultra quality  medium can be tough as well we'll take a look at   some gameplay when we get that far and then back  over to just some balance here on the medium but   I just want to show those just kind of so you can  see the differences in performance but let's go   ahead and stick with our normal settings I'm going  to be using throughout a lot of the video here so   15 watts 1080p FSR Ultra quality low custom with  the medium textures and all that now the 15 watts   does suffer in a lot of areas of the game and I'm  only 12 hours in there so this game is massive I   haven't even gotten to test the great Boulder's  Gate City yet where I know performance is going to   be different so we're just taking a look at things  as we can as we get throughout the game here and   15 does stuff for a bit there now 20 watts like  I said does do a pretty good job here on the Ally   for the same area it doesn't have quite the same  dips down recovers a bit faster and works pretty   well which you would expect the Ally loves the  Power that's just the way that it is and then at   25 watts we then move up again even better frame  rate and for 1080p even with these settings 25   watts of course is going to give you the best  performance in handheld mode 30 when you're   plugged in but if you want to save some battery  I'm finding it at 20 there's a decent Middle   Ground between that 15 and 25. but definitely the  Ally loves to eat that juice now when it comes to   uh like some battling outside some gameplay and  stuff performance will again vary all over the   game depending on where you're at but just to show  some here because we have a lot of NPCs on screen   a lot of players and that type of thing it does at  least show this running and we're at 20 watts here   1080pf is our Ultra quality and it holds up pretty  well if we go over to 20 watts FSR off and that's   when things will kind of start to dip on it's  not as bad as 15 watts but we will go down uh   to 30 and in other areas of the game definitely  under 30. that's where 30 FPS cap could be more   useful but the 20 watts is more versatile of  course than the 15 when we get into things now   here with still medium FSR off uh the performance  obviously is very bad and then if we're at medium   with FSR on quality it's kind of doable but  again in other areas of the game it's going to   get pretty rough for you when you're just running  medium you'll see we even go under 30 just here   and then going back to our normal settings at 20  watts low everything's fine now going to 15 watts   that's where things will suffer more we want to  stay down in these lower settings FSR on Ultra   quality and you'll see in and out of menus and in  combat we do get below 30. again 15 watts at 1080p   is going to suffer a good bit even 18 is a little  better 20 Works uh even better than that not 25   watts of course again the Ally loves the power so  we're able to stay much higher in our frame rates   a little bit better frame times and things are a  bit smoother we recover faster zooming in and out   and moving through menu so of course 25 watts  being the best performer in most areas of the   game on the Ally here now of course depending  on where you're at like I said you're going to   bounce anywhere from 30 fps to 60 FPS depending  on what wattage you're using your settings and   where you're at in the game and again I'm like  12 hours in so this is a lot of initial stuff   but it's really interesting to see how well this  is running on a handheld though and the cutscenes   and that type of thing they transition in and out  pretty well at the 20 watts and even on the lower   settings character models and everything look  pretty good you could bump those up to medium   if you want to look a little bit better and still  do fine but uh they the presentation of these on   the Ally screen looks fantastic now quick look at  720p we'll just leave it on 20 watts because I'm   not going to get deep into this but even native  720 on medium settings when you're really looking   at it it does look pretty blurry and I know FSR  does as well but for me personally the 720p is not   really worth it though it does have its uses just  going to the 1080p lower settings is crisper even   with FSR Ultra quality and it's just a way that I  personally prefer to play it but I do realize 720P   we'll have some advantages for some people out  there but I want to stick with 1080p myself but   I am looking forward to testing this game more  in the future when fsr2 comes out more patches   fixing some of the Oddities and textures and  performance and vsync and stuff in the game   but I thought this was a good look at how  things are performing at launch here for   Boulder Skate 3 on the Rog Ally alright  guys thanks a lot for coming to check out   the video as always I really appreciate  it and I'll see you guys in the next one
