And Neil Young developed a sound system to accompany the trains so the sounds you hear are exactly true to life as they are recorded from the real trains.

His home railway was on the cover of Model railroader magazine a few years ago (Dec 2007 I believe).

I have a relative that used to shop at the same model train store in NYC as Rod, and would BS with him about trains pretty regularly.

I'm second together over there the pair of you we go back a long way yeah I think I met you at the Biennale yeah person you'll notice we've got the drinks in yeah the drinks now these are rum and coke because rod we know your half and we also know that you're both quite generous when it comes to getting a drink in getting around in what what oh really well we apparently sir really that's not the reputation you have sir no I certainly haven't how did yours happen what I turned up with the last time I got a big round in was I was late for a gig that's right I was in Blackburn and the train got delayed it just stopped so it was two and a half hours late for a show and 1300 people waited because there is nothing else to do in Blackburn presumably and so I bought more to drink which was kind of an elevator yes well only two fans turned up for me no job see I was in Las Vegas and it was the last show and there were so many Celtic supporters in the audience for their green and white shirt okay guys meet you over the road at Ramsey's cuz he apparently played four Rangers so I think there was about like 60 70 Oh cost me about $5,000 well worth it well Percy we got you a little drawn because we thought you were someone landed on the edge well there you are never play with that soil fits into that same category does it this doesn't blame we have trains and what-have-you because when they go on tour is it right that you actually tick your train set with now again hold on hold on I don't tightly train sit right I'll get a scale model railroad oh sorry it's very very posh but when I go on tour if I'm in a hotel room they'll give me a spare hotel room and what happens is I've toolkits paints you know everything I need to build a project I want to stop laughs now that's how most people travel brother fingers now most people in this day life will bring a spare room for the model train set you're such a rockstar what else could I be look at this nice well listen sorry that let's change the subject this plane is you on that that's your stupid interview recently helping out right talk about my train set how big is it oh I a size of a tennis girls yeah is it Wow I don't get it up just a little bit man you get out you're not up shut up underneath yourself your own age right and I don't laugh onstage oh I didn't off at all early on in my career is cuz my laugh is so ridiculous a lot I laugh on it not now so instead of going haha like a normal human I left on an insert haha that's a weird honking goose noise honey if I try and sort of suppress it and go mm-hmm it sounds like someone smuggled an owl into the room it's just an awesome one selection we lost something you know you say you were nervous when he first started and obviously you've honed your skills and stuff now but your mom was always a really big believer wasn't she she was the one that kind of said you are really good at me funny oh she was incredible incredibly funny woman and that's kind of why I wanted to get into it because it was so she was so charismatic she was not a really really funny woman and everyone that met kind of gravitated towards that and you went do that what do I have to do write jokes here we go mmm it's a nice thing to kind of you know yeah cause I'm sure everybody does ask you what was your favorite job but actually when you've been looking back through all of the archives and everything that you have been which job were you kind of most surprised by that you thought was was funny that you didn't realize at the time I don't know I'm just writing my favorite all-time joke that might work on this show without swell I asked I've got a Welsh friend of mine asked him how many partners he'd had and he's in his life yeah and he started to count when he fell asleep that's just about horizon it right the one about you know the stag and the meat the stag medicine venison deer isn't it I tried to write the shortest job so I wrote a two-word joke which was dwarf shortage it's just so I could pack more jokes into the show it will be you're offended by that drop half tropic i won oh you to salute i know it so you shouldn't give us this family television i guess it's a family yeah anyway i'm speaking of which you are now singing and your own words age-appropriate songs well that one please is yes it's a one of a better word wife is watching it's a it's a you know a pulling a song but it's not tonight's a night it's not hot legs it's not stay with me it's not do you think I'm sexy how many pulling songs did you write what a moment write what you know that's why they say but you stopped right in for a little while Danny because you say that you saw it as homework but now you've taken up the mantle again you've done a whole album this time yeah so what was the difference then when did you know it did you have that memory thought I can do it again well when I I put the book together autobiography rod unusual title and I thought I had so many things to write about you know it suddenly dawned on me you know I tons of stuff to write about and that was the catalyst that was the opening the floodgates and and I just continued and the song that you have written for will your son basically that's just the most wonderful batman/superman he's watching let me just tell him I'm bringing this home for you my all night I mean talk about setting the scene and creating an image it just hits it absolutely perfectly how was that process right in that song and putting that feeling down well every night on probably the last one to you know going say goodnight to him you is his dad read me a story and I go what about so we'll make it up but what about Batman silver Superman or spider-man so song was written and he he plays it when I'm away from home and I'm you know on tour or something directly I come home he never plays it sweet ha lesson I didn't see I never get to put my son to bed that makes me feel I was driving I'm listening to it last night I've got all sad on the way home did you really listen again like you like have you got any kids I know no plenty of time now the main difference because you obviously both go through the writing process you've got to write loads of jokes only because they one-liners what is it say a thousand you're going to write a thousand to get two hundred and fifty good ones yeah yeah that was well the audience always decides there's a great quote by American comedian called Lenny Bruce said the audience is a genius because they decide what isn't what isn't funny you can sort be doing comedy for as many years as you want you tell an audience and they'll tell you what they like instantly about what gets the same songs you play one you got this is gonna be the single and then you play it live and the audience will show you what's the one they like and what's the one they're not so keen on but the key obviously is having that kind of contact with that audience and as far as your venues the size of them is concerned I mean they're differ greatly because you like to do quite intimate and you I mean they're all stadiums aren't they yeah yeah next tune they are yeah all my boys will be there yeah but that feelings for you do you prefer that is it just about getting loads of people in one place at one time or do you prefer that feeling it you know if if it's an outdoor show and we just spoke about this and if the weather's great it has a carnival atmosphere everybody has a few tipples and they enjoy the show and they sing along sometimes even when it's raining their British are great they W here because they're used to it but it is I died I prefer both I love the outdoor shows but I like the intimacy of you know that venue you plan very slow your incredible menu but is that thing where people spend their lives in front of screens now computers and TVs and things and they love going out to stuff and to feel part of a crowd and to sing along and it's just a lovely experience and you love your audience eligium you feeling part of a crowd because you like to hear the ad-libs and that's kind of what drives you so you don't like the big Jay did you because what I've a slightly different thing with comedy where I want people at the back of a fear to be able to be able to shout out and be part of the show because the audience are a big part of it not all right jokes and I'll be like 70 80 percent of the show and the rest of it on a good night is the audience joining in and heckling and being rude to me great how do you go about writing a joke Oh backwards a Djimon you tend to write the punchline first and then go and then go you think of a punchline and in you so I'm going to write a joke about this yeah about my socks stratis I don't get it absolutely useless and do not go with anything else I'm wearing I'm just notice so no I'm not a sock sock joke I'll work on it how can I will get
