hey everybody my name is Stephen and welcome back to the story time Channel without a wasting any time let's get into our stories of the day my neighbor gets what she deserves so this happened last week and I am proud of myself for it I'm English so I'll spell Mama's mom during this pandemic I have found peace by sitting in my garden watching YouTube videos and scrolling reddit I always sit in my swing chair a swing chair is a chair mixed with a swing so you sit and swing without annoying chains or having to go out my swing chair has been through a lot so much so to the point where if you sit on it it squeaks a bit I like the squeaks though so I keep using it my neighbor hates my family ever since my mom my brother and I moved into my now stepdads house she especially hates me for some reason one day my parents got the say off from work so we were all home I was out on the swing chair listening to music using headphones all of a sudden a bucket gets thrown over the fence and almost hit me I jumped and took off my headphones I asked who did that my neighbor responded with stop swinging on your chair you're distracting my children and making them jealous either stop or give it to me I asked how am i distracting them she replied with the sound makes them look through the hole they made in the fence I said that I'll stop here is the malicious compliance I stopped going on my swing chair and instead picked up an old hobby of mine drumming I played it so much that my family would sometimes have to speak louder to talk to me this is where it gets weird though she then phoned my personal phone that I have never given the number to anyone except my close friends apparently she had gone to my mom's Facebook searched for a pic of me and my friends found my best friend's number by some means and posed as my aunt asking for my number so she could check up on me she called me yelling at me to stop drumming I said why and she said because of the noise I said that she said that I had to stop swinging so I took up a hobby she hung up I now go on my swing chair play drums and play drums with my brother on his guitar revenge is best served cold what other annoying things would you want to do to upset this neighbor a little bit more for this let me know what your preferred choice of annoying item or action would be in the comments below did what they wanted custom 6k they weren't prepared for I work in IT for years ago as the last line of escalation for a third-party IT support company I worked for at the time I got a ticket for a business management program not working on a server we managed IRA mode into the problem server and check the logs to see what's up and there isn't anything that sticks out after updating the ticket I give the requester a call and asked to remote into his workstation to see the problem I get the go-ahead to remote control his computer and see the error and what he is doing to get it it's a database error that's easily fixed by an update I have a script for no biggie he tells the person in charge of this business management program in their office about what's going on and that person gets on the phone and starts to yelling at me to leave it all alone and to call the vendor to have them look at it and fix it I once again try to explain that I can knock this out in a few minutes and the vendor will charge because of the company not having the support plan person doesn't care so I say I'll send person an email stating that any problems caused by the vendor while they're attempting to fix the issue will be billable if we need to get involved person authorizes it and I connect the vendor and original ticket requester so they can hash it out and just stay on standby if they need anything because of the troubleshooting steps vendor is apparently required to do they end up being charged $900 to fix the issue but end up bringing down some of the network due to an IP address change wasn't authorized by us being done by the vendor tech we bill at $150 and had to get the vendor back on to reinstall their business management program since it apparently couldn't handle the constant Network changes total bill ended up being like six grand for this my boss and the user company owner had a chat with me and I showed them the email chain and had the original requester backed me up all purchase requests over one thousand dollars had to go through the office manager for the client from then on just remember if you're ever doing this kind of thing that Opie did here make sure you get it in any kind of writing you can one of the most vital things you can do that can save your butt okay on call it is this isn't my story it was told to me by the brother of the main character he's a poker buddy and I was mentioning this sub and he told me his brother's tale I have taken some liberties with the dialog and such to make it more readable let's call him Bob he worked in a law office as one of two IT techs the company had several branches so there were a few dozen admin people in head office handling everything from billing to payroll to supplies you get the idea all the branches could access the central server our database Bob's boss was the IT manager and he resigned to move to greener pastures there was one other IT tech but he was on and off the job due to health reasons so when the IT manager quit bob was 90% certain he would get the promotion guess again they rolled his position under the office manager to save the budget for the IT manager salary speaking of budgets each time bob performed the task he would have to record it so that it could be internally billed to the correct department the office manager had very little in the way of a clue on how to resolve even the simplest IT issues for those of you who don't know you need IT people like you need firemen not for a fire but in case there's a fire Bob had a vacation scheduled and the office manager was in a bind if an issue popped up he wouldn't be able to fix it Bob said no problem boss I can handle things on an on-call basis just be sure to add roaming to my cellphone as I will be in Mexico he put it into an email incited the relevant on-call section of his contract since the office didn't cover more than one timezone and most staff from Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the on-call issues were few and far between averaging one or two a month if that any issue at all required a service ticket for tracking but after hours on call tickets were compensated at a minimum of three hours pay per issue most issues were pretty simple usually problem is between computer and chair related the emails from ex-client keep landing in my junk folder we have a new customer Y client and we need to whitelist their domain how do I set up a filter in Outlook so Bob set up his phone to say I am on vacation but still on call if you have an urgent problem please submit a service ticket he did something similar with his away message for his email then Bob headed for the beach office dingbats can't tell the difference from an urgent issue and a routine one and he was getting five or six tickets a day he hot spotted his phone and remoted into their desktops and in most cases was able to resolve the issue in minutes when he got back he submitted his timesheets and HR went nuts he was billing 12 15 18 hours a day and managers of various departments were questioning why they were being hit for these tickets when mundane issues like these were usually handled by Bob when he was on his regular salary Bob simply showed them the email with his office managers approval to run on an on call basis and show them the relevant section of the contract then they got the phone bill the office manager never added roaming so all voice calls were at international rates and so was data when asked why he didn't just use Hotel Wi-Fi he replied its corporate policy not to transfer sensitive information over an unsecure connection and I have no idea if the hotel's connection was safe all in all Bob made enough on his vacation to cover the entire cost and then some by the end of each of the two weeks he was fixing a ticket in ten minutes and collecting three hours at double-time for it so is the dream being able to enjoy your time on beaches fixing small ten-minute problems and getting paid hand-over-fist for it here is your extra extra extra extra extra extra extra hot chai this story is from about eight years ago when I worked at green apron coffee the store where I worked at was a drive-through store so this day I was working the drive-through bar making drinks anyone who was working on the drive-through side will wear a headset even if we aren't greeting the customers a minivan pulled up to the box and before we even got to greet her I need an extra extra extra extra extra extra extra extra hot chai latte anytime i order it extra hot you never make it hot enough and that's all and she pulled away from the box immediately I distinctly remember her saying extra seven times pro tip the standard when I worked there was that extra hot means one hundred and fifty-five degrees Fahrenheit the standard temperature there is 140 degrees Fahrenheit although a chai latte also has water added which is 200 degrees Fahrenheit so it is already slightly hotter than standard when you order it without any modifications if you want to drink hotter just see the temperature but keep in mind that milk burns around 190 degrees Fahrenheit when it is being steamed the McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit was over a 200 degree Fahrenheit cup of coffee which caused severe burns to the woman's inner thighs and genitals be very careful when handling drinks in this temperature range since I got to make her drink I didn't have to deal with her directly but me being the vengeful young adult I was at the time and wanting to teach her a lesson about being polite to those in food service i steamed her milk to 195 degrees fahrenheit how hot is seven extras exactly adding that much team de milk makes it quite watery with some coagulated proteins on top the steamer also gets quite loud allowing it to run at that hot of a temperature I scooped off the burned portion of her milk assembled her cup with the chai concentrate then hot water and then poured the milk to the top of her cup I warned my co-worker which cup was the hot hot hot one when the customer pulled up to the window I watched silently in glee as she pulled the stopper out of her cup and immediately tried to chug her seven times extra hot drink her eyes widened as she realized how hot it was and then she spat out the remainder that was in her mouth she put the stopper back in her drink and still with chai on her face turned to us and said thank you so much then drove off I can remember almost in slow motion how her face went from surprise to annoyance to acceptance to satisfaction I could tell she wanted to complain but she also got exactly what she ordered edit I should clarify I made her drink at that temperature knowing full well I was violating corporate policy and I had seen that hot coffee documentary so I knew that temperature was dangerous if I had done that and the customer complained I would have gotten a write-up but what would she have said excuse me this drink that I berated your employees to make extra hot was actually extra hot this time with how rude to the point and like skipping over stuff she was I think it's pretty fair that she got what she ordered only paying me for one hours work well alrighty then a few years ago I was teaching at a university in the UK as a grad student and they switched up their payment system for the teaching seminars the preview system had been that we prepped the seminar taught the seminar and were paid for the time it took to do both we were expected to not be fraudulent in our timesheets and received the decent level of pay for the work we did approximately 23 pound an hour that rate of pay was pretty cheap compared to faculty and we often created our own course content updated old courses and so on quite a few of us actually shortchanged ourselves because while we did the reading we weren't expected to and didn't feel right charging for it then they changed the system the university was losing money paying us and our feedback wasn't top-notch it wasn't going to be we only had a morning of training before teaching seminars HR gathered us in a room and told us all that we would now be paid for one hour of prep for every unique hour of seminar and our pay was dropping to 13 pound an hour I stuck my hand up and asked so if we prepped for an hour we should stop prepping and then just teach what we've got they conferred at the front of the room and hesitantly replied yes I suppose that is what we're saying the next day we had an email sent around by each are all faculty would now be required to give us sufficient teaching notes so that we would take an hour maximum to prepare for an hour seminar obviously that didn't happen as an example one of the first seminar series I taught under the new structure my guidance consisted of a brief conversation and passing in the hallway without that I doubt I would have had anything so new term new students first seminar rolls around I get through 20 minutes run out of material and form the students of the new payment ruling and say they can either grab a coffee with me or they can leave same thing happened in all of my other seminars that week it's probably worth mentioning at this point my seminars were not part of the exam material they were to help with coursework in the vacated 40 or so minutes of each seminar I did discuss coursework with the students who stuck around so I was making sure they weren't losing out after all this wasn't their fault and they shouldn't lose out after my first round of seminars I think I taught about 60% of the department students some of them found it amusing some fun a Turks some none complained directly to me about my teaching I'd have made it very clear to them who to contact and they did I got called into the office got asked to explain myself I did they told me I wasn't to do it again the next week I asked for more money to reflect the work I would be doing they said they would review it they didn't get back to me before the next round of seminars so I did the same thing this repeated for about six or seven rounds of seminars each time the students grew progressively and expectedly agitated then someone went to a national newspaper an article was published profiled a couple of different people quoted me anonymously a few times private server that I responded to and we were all emailed by h-r there would be no changes they said we were to all read a blog they had written they said we would all be switched to less secure contracts next year they said with a temp agency we were expected to prepare fully for the hour of teaching we were paid to do and they anticipated that it would take an hour to prepare for an hour they would take no questions every single one of my students that term got a two to one or higher on their course works 3.3 GPA or higher for those across the pond and I graded on a curve I won a couple of teaching awards from students not faculty and finish the term dead chuffed with how my students did I wasn't offered any teaching the next term nor were the people who had spoken to the newspaper or anyone else who had taken the same line that I had it's just unfair working conditions and it's a shame that it happens to people in these teaching positions that are so vital for students but with that being said that's all the stories we have for today so what I want to know is which of these stories is your personal favorite and why let me know in the comments below and thank you all so much for watching and listening to the storytime
