hey everybody hope you're all doing well my name is steven and this is the story time channel today we have some malicious compliance stories and our first story of the day is by that chick vic the coffee machine okay hope you don't mind which one so this one happened just a few days ago in my own home and my partner's ability to do malicious compliance in real life cracks me up so i wanted to share this one for christmas i got my partner a keurig he's an avid coffee drinker and before this he had a tassimo but for personal reasons we live in my mother's crowded house and the tassimo while brand new when opened came pretty much broken but it's all he had access to and it's all we could afford the thing can't run without making a ton of noise but i know my house too well and can honestly tell you no one takes care of anything everyone uses my stuff and constantly breaks it or wrecks it in some way and are woefully unapologetic about it i'm just used to it but when i spent all this money on the keurig i wanted it to be just for my partner since my mother said no one else drinks coffee in the house she wasn't really wrong they for the most part drink barely anything caffeinated however recently since the keurig is left in the kitchen we've both come to realize that they had intentions of using the keurig without our permission not that we would normally mind but in the last two weeks alone about three things of mine have been broken we weren't taking that risk and moved it down to my room it has produced no smell and was making no fuss but while out the other day i received a text questioning where the coffee machine went i know she's not clueless because she's talked to me about the keurig before when she was considering buying him one for christmas she just tried to play dumb so i wouldn't know she wanted it upstairs for them to use it when i told her it was downstairs for convenience she went off it all boiled down to it can't be downstairs in your room because i said so and to make it look like it wasn't about using the machine she even threw in some stuff about moving out if we wanted to live like we had our own apartment and whatnot i was livid my partner however determined that he wasn't going to go let them use whatever keurig pods they bought and didn't want to tell us they had so my partner brought his old tassimo back upstairs the look on my mom and her fiance's face was priceless they looked so annoyed and wouldn't even speak to us nor say a word they won't dare ask why the keurig isn't upstairs it's been about two days since then and my mother still shoots us daggers whenever my partner makes coffee and to think this all relates to just one big problem of not being able to communicate if you found yourself an op situation would you just go ahead and try and break the tension and just flat out admit that you know they know that they want to use the keurig and they want to know where it is so they can keep using it and the intention that maybe you can iron something out and everybody can use it all happily or would you let them just kind of deal with the consequences of not being open about their communication and have them just kind of constantly silently smolder around you guys let me know in the comments down below our next story is by totally legit s-talk marinara sauce copy and paste it from my post and today i freaked up that was taken down i feel like it can belong here enjoy below greetings fellow freaker uppers my freak up today is relatively minor but i feel this story is worth telling i write this as my wife finishes eating a little context for you all i have a habit of entertaining the local taco bell drive-through with outrageous sauce requests i want enough sauce to make a slip and slide enough to drown my sorrows one gallon of diablo please and my favorite i'm plotting to overthrow the government of moldavia and need enough sauce to feed an army oftentimes i get a chuckle and an extra couple sauce packets it's good fun and helps break up the monotony of drive-through i've been there and i get it that's at taco bell today my wife and i decided to eat somewhere else sonic the people at sonic don't freak around we parked at a menu when ordered two foot long meals chili if anyone cares and an order of mozzarella sticks the girl taking our order asks the question i was waiting for would you like marinara or ranch with that my heart skips a beat as my moment comes with the straightest voice i could muster marinara enough to fill a bathtub with a person in it the girl on the other end has no reaction my day is ruined but my wife gets a chuckle we wait for a guy named james to bring us our food out he comes with the tray two bags our dogs and our drinks first he hands me the drinks next is the first bag here are the onion rings fries and mozzarella sticks and all is well so far he follows it up with the foot longs at this point we have our entire order except we don't james has one more bag with the greatest poker face on the planet he passes me a roughly five pound bag and says and here is your marinara i take the bag casually as if it was exactly what i was expecting he walks back a completely normal exchange of money for goods has occurred my wife and i have been dying between bites for once my outlandish request has been granted now what do we do with all this marinara all i know is somebody is going to go to that sonic and really hope that they have some marinara and find nothing but true disappointment as they find out that one person that came by recently took the rest of it all 50 plus containers of marinara this next story is by holy beck's batman too sick to practice too sick to play this was my junior year of high school approximately 12 to 13 years ago i was on the softball team and the head coach was kind of a hot head slash jerk i had already played for him my sophomore year so i'd seen his blowups first hand but wasn't on the receiving end of one until the first week of junior year i was feeling pretty terrible at school all day so my mother came to pick me up a little early during softball the coach was furious he didn't believe that i wasn't feeling well yelled that if i was too sick to practice then i was too sick to play and to turn in my uniform once i was feeling better assuming i'd be back the next day i imagine well i was out with meningitis for five days the most horribly sick i've ever been when i returned i turned in my clean and neatly folded uniform apologized for being too sick to practice and asked if i could go to the library to study the coach was stunned and tried to talk me out of it but i reminded him that i was merely maliciously complying with his request to turn in my uniform there was no talking me out of it i was a pretty stubborn teenager it actually ended up working out for me in the long run to avoid any backlash and allow me to remain maliciously compliant the coach worked out a deal with my ap world history teacher i would go to her room instead of softball for the rest of the semester and she would email him confirming i was there so he could count me present for the day i was struggling in ap world history so going twice a day helped me keep my grade at a passing level while still receiving the required pe credit for softball i think the ap test but pass the class and i never played softball for that school again if i was op i would love to get a doctor's note turn in that uniform as well as a copy of that doctor's note that literally says that they had meningitis on it just to really really drive it into this jerk they can't be like that they can't say those things to kids and they should take kids a little bit more seriously when they say they don't feel well this next story is by moss manon malicious compliance towards the police without even knowing i did it back in the late 80s i had a car that a friend of mine used to borrow while i was at work one day he got the bright idea of buying an air compressor horn that played la cucaracha when you press the power button where i live it's illegal to have those kind of horns you can only have two tones that play simultaneously like the original horns that came with the car when bought new well like i said it was the 80s and i of course had a two-tone compressor air horn already fitted much louder than the originals and much cooler one day when i got off work i drove my car to the place where we all used to hang out and parked it along with the cars of all my friends after some time sitting there with our windows open side by side chatting about all and nothing a police car showed up the officer went out of the car and came straight to me and told me to follow him to the police station small town what have i done now i thought i just came here straight from work but i did as i was told and followed him when we arrived at the police station the officer told me to open the hood i did what he asked and he pointed at my two-tone compressor horn and told me that it was illegal and he would confiscate it and that i would be fined for driving a car with an illegal horn i knew this was bs but what could i do he was mad as freak and all red in his face he even made me unmount the horn to give it to him only a screwdriver needed so no big deal i asked him what made him come directly to me in the crowd of cars that i was in and he told me that i was a terrible driver when he was driving his private car to get on shift i had passed him and played that awful horn while i did it i replied at that that that must have been a mistake as i just came off of work so it must have been my friend who borrowed my car it didn't matter who was the driver that horn had to go when i would be fined the fine would be sent to me in the mail something was clearly wrong here i just lost my perfectly legal compressor air horn and was to be fined for it i asked my friend what he had done to pee that officer off and just then he confessed that he mounted the la cucuracha horn on my car without my knowledge and had used it while driving i was mad at him as i was being fined for something he had done when it suddenly dawned on me that thing was still on my car and the police took the wrong one the legal one we unmounted my friend's horn and i went back to the police station and talked to a supervisor i explained to him that i thought the officer behaved badly i also told him about my air horn and that it was legal and couldn't understand why the officer had confiscated it and would fine me for having it nothing really came out of it the officer had to give me my horn back and i got no fine needless to say but he was pretty red in his face when he handed my horn back to me he knew that he took the wrong one but now i most likely had removed it oh my friends got a good laugh when i told them the story well i mean if you're going to accuse someone of a crime and you're going to pin them on it maybe make sure that you collect the proper evidence that officer in all accounts just completely failed at their job even though it wasn't op's fault op was still technically liable because it was their car and their mistake ended up letting op just go completely free while kind of embarrassing themselves in the process our next story is by sandy peterson beat and switch for a tech demo so back in the day when i worked for midsize co which was wholly owned by giant company there was a big tech fest in barcelona and giant company was going to be there just a few days before the fest they realized they needed someone from midsize code to demonstrate our soon to be released game but it was less than a week away so my producer came to me i was the product's design lead and said we really need you to go to barcelona but because of the short notice we can't order you to go i looked at him he said giant company guy that i liked says if you go you can either a fly first class or b take your wife well the thought of scoring major karma with my wife who speaks spanish fluently was the deal maker and i said you bet and immediately phoned my wife with the exciting news just two days before we were due to fly to spain some bean counter at giant company decided the deal they'd offered me was too good so they decided to walk back on the offer it wasn't written down after all my producer came to me and said i couldn't take my wife when i went so i replied okay then i won't go my producer grinned and went back to the bean counter who was amazed that i'd walked it back he thought for sure i'd want the trip to spain right now he had no one to demo the midsize co-product no one at giant company could do it and no one else at midsize co would do it after hearing how they tried to screw me the bean counter caved immediately and me and wifey got our trip to barcelona i sat in a big white room talking about tech specs to nerds all weekend and wife got to see the city i did manage to go out to dinner with her in the evenings squidding paella and tapas for the win i am told that since they had to book my wife's ticket the day we flew it cost giant company an extra 1 000 peanuts for them but still of course the source of the problem is that the bean counter had a false perspective it's not a trip to spain for me it's a trip to a big white room full of other nerds for the weekend if i can't even score wife points it was absolutely not worth the trip i feel like a lot of people would do the exact same thing as op did you're not really getting a trip to spain to take in the sights and enjoy the scenery all that time you have to go there spend a weekend there talking to some other suits and whatnot and then you gotta come right back with just a little bit of extra time at night if you're able to go with your closest loved one and allow them to have a great experience sure of course but if it's just you and you have to be cooped up with all the other nerds as op described them and then come right back that's not very motivating so i totally get opie and our final story of the day is by mr therapist make it hotter i worked at a starbucks when i was younger and a young woman ordered a drink extra hot she made the biggest scene about how it should be hot how it is never hot enough normal drink temperature was 165 degrees fahrenheit we could only serve something up to 180 fahrenheit occasionally we would heat to 190 fahrenheit milk quality degrades above 175 i made the drink to 180 and put it on the bar she was nowhere in sight and had gone with her date into chapters by the time she came back the drink was at about 160 and she complained about it not being hot enough and that i needed to do it again so i made another one at 190 put it on the bar and again she was off with her date in chapters and she let it cool down on the bar i checked that one and it was at 175 when she came back she gave me an earful about how i'm not even trying and why can't i make a drink hot enough again she went back to chapters but i could still see her so i made a drink at 195 which is basically disgusting milk and way too hot i put it on the bar and called it out realizing that she was relatively close she picked it up quickly this time and took a sip a freak that is way too hot her and the boyfriend just took it and left next day i got called into the boss's office customer complained that the drink was too hot said it ruined her date boss asked how hot i served it and i told her because i don't lie i told her that i had made escalating temperatures and remade it several times i got written up for that and was told that it would prevent me from being rehired what i was supposed to do was continue remaking it over and over at 180 fahrenheit until the customer gave up i guess if it doesn't lose starbucks any money just play the long game with the customer until they finally give up i guess i don't know get a complaint in that it wasn't hot enough and then you explained that you made it every time at the regulated temperature and of course nothing ever comes out of it i don't blame opie for what they did wrong but they did technically do wrong i'm also kind of curious what happened to that lady's tongue considering it probably didn't cool off that much when they took a sip probably a pretty good scalding but with
