restyling Fate: The Winx Saga because netflix needs the help

hello my sweet dubs welcome back as it says in the title of the video today i'm going to be restyling the live-action winx club because the live-action that exists fate to the wink saga is just crying for help i don't want to spend too much time critiquing them because i feel like everyone across social media has already dragged them but the bottom line is the outfits are very dull boring ill-fitted um and they make the characters look like adult women and not like teenagers the costumes don't reflect current styles whatsoever they're super dated and in general a huge disappointment considering how vibrant and fun the original winx club animation was i'm going to be honest i didn't watch fate the wink saga um at all i didn't even watch episode one because i just had no interest in it whatsoever i saw that it got overwhelmingly bad reviews the promotional pictures that came out like incited no interest for me whatsoever and i did watch the modern girls video on it and i feel like that was enough for me to get the gist of that entire show and bottom line is not for me so with that said i'm not really styling the winx club girls in the universe of fate the wink saga um modern girls did an excellent job doing that taking in all the characters and the different plot points that they decided to add in to that show i'm just gonna be doing it as if netflix approached me and was like hey mina um i've seen all your amazing videos and we finally decided to hire you and give you like a million dollars to do it and um we're just going to do a live action winx let me know what you think so this is kind of me going in and creating outfits just based on the original source material and not concerning with any new things that netflix wants to do with the show chai tea and shanspeer made really fun videos already about this where they restyles the wings club girls and i definitely recommend watching those if you haven't already i noticed that in their videos they pulled outfits that were in the price ranges of most people um which is really fun and cool so it's like if you or me wanted to create a stella look we could do that with their videos but because i'm approaching this topic as if netflix came up to me i'm assuming that netflix also has the budget for me so i'm actually going to create outfits based off of like high fashion and ethical brands i want to clarify that i would never costume design a show with only name brand clothing that just goes against my whole pro thrifting vibe this is just for fun and you may be thinking um wait a minute mina didn't you criticize emily in paris for giving emily a closet full of chanel and you said it was unrealistic and yeah okay but it's different because i was berating emily for wearing all this chanel when she's obviously working a job that cannot afford her this kind of expensive lifestyle and i still stand by that because emily in paris is a show grounded in realism we're talking about a working girl in her early 20s who moved to paris and is dealing with all kinds of normal issues like making new friends dealing with a boss who doesn't like you sleeping with your best friend's boyfriend oh wait that's uh not that relatable i mean i think you can fold in some high-end clothing if they are incorporated into a believable style jewels from euphoria has a very expensive closet but the pieces are really youthful made by rising designers and are ambiguous in origin unless you're in the industry aka not obnoxiously monogrammed emily's monogrammed chanel bags on the other hand really do take you out of the show unlike emily and paris winx club is supposed to take place in a magical realm and the characters sounds bloom are not supposed to even come from earth so i think it's safe to say that the clothing does not have to be realistic for modern human teenagers or at least that's my excuse because i do want to see what they would look like in high fashion so i've come up with two outfits for every girl the first outfit is more of like a everyday kind of look it's based on their personal style or their personal style that i would create for them if i was the costume designer and their second outfit is going to be their transformation outfit that is more based on their powers than their personal styles one of my biggest qualms with the show's costuming is that they didn't even try to create transformation outfits when that's like 75 of the fun of magical girl shows so i took it upon myself to discuss what i'd imagined them wearing if netflix tried a little harder also to note i would heavily prefer like that actual transformation outfits to be original designs it's just so important for the show to have unique standout fairy looks so the outfits that i talk about are more like inspiration like they should go on the costuming mood board kind of ordeal let's start with bloom in fate she wears a lot of leather jackets for some reason and she also wears a lot of red i think to indicate that she's a fire fairy i think it's really cheesy for them to create a wardrobe based around one color for this character because it's just not realistic for real humans it works in the world of a cartoon but it just looks kind of cheesy when we apply that into a live action it makes sense for their transformation outfits to reflect a color coordinated with their powers but for their everyday outfits let's be a little bit more creative bloom in the animated show mostly wears a basic cropped t-shirt and low-waisted jeans bloom is your girl next door lovable relatable protagonist she's definitely not as high frills as her best friend stella who apparently isn't even her best friend in fate the wink saga but we're just going to ignore that rewrite because it's unnecessary for a modern take on bloom i would style her with a very off-duty model kind of aesthetic i think candid photos of bella hadid kendall jenner and madison beer brands i would choose for bloom's aesthetic are lisa says gaw iggy jeans stingoia and fall risk i also think bloom would thrift a lot of the clothes in her closet so she wear a number of vintage banties and levi jeans as well at the beginning of the series i would style her in pretty plain clothing like cropped white t-shirts red tank tops vintage t-shirts as i just said straight like jeans and sneakers like converse high tops or new balance sneakers or doc martin boots but as the season goes on i would dress her in a little more interesting clothes um to show stella's influence and to show their growing friendship hurry up stella hold on you can't rush perfection you know also in the animated show she does have girlier and more elaborate fit so canonically it makes sense i think bloom would definitely always prioritize comfort so i would add some more knitwear into her collection like cropped cardigans sweater vests and patchwork sweaters her jeans would stay a staple but i'd pick out patterned and textured jeans like this pair from iggy jeans or this pair from myob i would add corduroy to her wardrobe as well as collared shirts to wear underneath her sweaters let's do an example outfit i started with this i think it's cropped and if it's not craft i'll be sad but this cropped cardigan top with a cute little collar from fall risk and i'm pairing it with these jeans from iggy jeans i chose the pink ones because she does seem to like pink in the animated series and then for the shoes i chose these nikes that match her top easy peasy the transformation inspo look is the set from 404 studio fall winter 2020. the green flames are obviously a reference to bloom's power but i like how they're green instead of red or orange which is more predictable for any kind of flame designs plus the green would look really good against her hair color i wanted to find her a pair of boots that were a little bit more interesting than a normal pair of over-the-knee boots because her outfit is already pretty simple but i needed to make sure that the shoes wouldn't clash with the outfit colors that she's already wearing so these black patent naked wolf boots are just perfect i love the shape of the heels so much they just bring extra pizzazz to the platform boot now on to stella in fate stella's looks are not awful they just age her a ton she looks like a teacher or an attorney in this outfit and it looks like they tried to make her more fun with the orange top and the sparkly headband but it's just not enough stella and the animated show wears strappy tops and mix matches flashy colors she's supposed to be the fashionista of the group i beg you blue help me stella how can i help you you're the fashion star it even says so on the phantom wiki page so i don't know why they decided to compromise this part of her personality and fate stella i think has the most money because she's a princess so i would expect her to look the most expensive as well [Music] hmm too expensive i'll pay for it no stella you might offend her i don't see how that's any of your business because of her sunny outgoing and kind of self-centered disposition i would imagine that she wears a lot of vibrant and flashy colors and experiments with a lot of bold and multi-textured patterns how could you bought something like that i didn't buy it someone gave it to you i designed it in the dark she would probably wear more silhouettes that are figure-hugging reminiscent of the 1990s her favorite brand would be versace and moschino and chanel if these chain belts are telling me anything i see her stylistically as being a combination of paris hilton and fran drescher i see her wearing a lot of matching sets bralette style crop tops and mini skirts or high-waisted shorts because i refuse to revive the low waist and chunky colorful jewelry because she's a light fairy i would also put her in silk satin fabric sequins and glitter let's do the example outfit i picked out this maria escotei spring summer 2011 set with pearl embellishments on the bra ask top i would pair it with a ribbed semi sheer turtleneck underneath like this versace green one ignore the pink top it's layered with we're just adding the green turtleneck to this outfit i'm adding these gucci red floral lace tights underneath the shorts red sheer over the knee socks would work just as well i wanted to add more textures and layers because stella's philosophy would definitely be more is more for her shoes these versace heels from the spring 2019 collection would be perfect i'm really trying to keep with this orange green purple color scheme that we see her wearing a lot in the show to top it all off i'll add this red heart-shaped mosquito purse to match the red and the tights and these blue marine sunglasses from the spring 2021 collection the transformation outfit i give stella would be based on this orange versace halter dress from the spring 2005 collection the orange of course pays homage to sella's original fairy outfit and the halter to stella's original everyday outfit i would give her the versace fall 2019 heels because i just love the gold embellishments that i think would shine with her light power okay next is aisha or layla according to some dubs she honestly looks like a mom i don't understand why they would give any of these girls long skirts to be honest because i feel like it just makes them look older it's just not youthful she has a more sporty look here but it's really boring i feel like everything that she's wearing i could find from h m all the pieces are just very basic there's nothing memorable about any of these designs personality wise in the original show aisha is very caring she's open-minded and she starts off the series like a bit more of a tomboy than the other girls um she's definitely the sporty one for sure come on get on who says you get to drive oh what you think i've never ridden a motorbike before [Music] the cargo skirt she wears as her everyday look reminds me of destiny's child for some reason but that's not too surprising because ayesha's design is supposedly based on beyonce for her redesign i definitely wanted to bring out the spoiliness but a little less on the y2k side because i really want to try to modernize the series as much as possible even though i do like the y2k era of fashion but we're pushing for new ideas and for aisha i really wanted to balance femininity with sportiness because even though she's considered a tomboy at least according to the fandom wiki page the way she dresses in the original animation is still pretty girly with skirts and cropped tank tops in her live action wardrobe i would include velour track suits roosh tops and skirts satin tops corset tops strappy tops cut out tops wide leg pants bike shorts track pants cargo pants bucket hats designer sneakers and platform boots the designers i see her rocking the most would be dion lee berrigan and the small australian brand called carlaidla i saw her stuff and i was like i need aisha and all of this immediately i think on the daily aisha would wear something very comfortable like princess diana with her sweatshirt and bike shorts combo or cargo pants and a romantic styled crop top okay let's do an outfit for her so the top that i picked out is this orson iris satin top it's pretty basic but i do like the baby pink the level of shine to it and the extra strap detailing that wraps around the waist i also wanted something simple on top so as to not distract from this amazing dion lee camo skirt that i picked out from the spring 2021 collection it's like camo slash cargo so just a perfect reinvention of her animated skirt plus the corset detailing down the middle is super modern um what with all the corset crates in the last couple years the shoes i picked out for her are these vintage buffalo london platform boots they would definitely look better if they match the print on her skirt but i did want to kind of mix and match and i didn't want to just put her in a head to toe dionly outfit because even though that'd be sick you know i'm trying to work that creative muscle so i also just love these boots especially the layered sole and finally to bring some more color in this outfit i'd put her in this purple francis oh suede jacket with crystal embellishments for her transformation look i imagine i usually wear something very blue and shimmery something with sequins that give the effect of light hitting water i know she's technically not like just a water fairy i think she's like amorphics fairy is what it's called um which is like this other element that only exists in the winx universe but we're just gonna go with water because i don't know what morphix would look like in the real world i don't know even though aisha doesn't really wear blue in the cartoon i saw this look from the julian mcdonald spring 2020 collection and i loved it for her i would modify the hemline though because i don't think the hemline is very youthful i would much rather it be a miniskirt that just cut straight across this is another look that i love from the collection but i would obviously have to model the outfit again to have a skirt hemline to make it more youthful and age-appropriate i would also give her a pair of over-the-knee blue patent leather boots like these dior ones to amp up the water association okay let's talk about flora the first of our white-washed girls here um she goes by the name tara in the show because i guess netflix thought we would not notice the whitewashing if she had a different name but they're wrong everyone noticed there's like a ton of essays video essays on this already so i don't want to get too much into like the whole whitewashing aspect of it i just wanted to mention it but uh regardless tara was done very dirty in the show she's wearing these shapeless silhouettes that just make her look like a rectangle um it's just very clear to me how they didn't even try with dressing a plus size actress it also bothers me how this jacket she's wearing looks like a really weird long vest at first glance because her dress is the same color as the sleeves what a mess flora in the animated show is very calm sweet and sensitive she has a very soft feminine style compared to the other girls she wears this green puffy sleeved cropped blouse and a strawberry printed pink skirt as her everyday look which i think is pretty transferable to modern trends with the strawberry dress and puff sleeve blouses being very in at least last year i wanted to match her feminine style in her redesign something that netflix did not try to do whatsoever i would make her new wardrobe have clothes like of course her signature puff sleeve blouses sheer blouses ribbon corsets anything with a statement collar detachable statement collars mini skirts and an abundance of ruffles lace and tulle her favorite designers would be riddarte and bloomerang and i think on a day-to-day basis she would wear maison cleo kristen mallison and shretsis her vibe is very frilly heavy on the floral patterns and romantic silhouettes if they were to cast a plus-sized brown latina woman um i think the style would still work really well a lot of the best like romantic style clothes i've seen on the market come from smaller brands and they tend to have size ranges that stretch further than high fashion brands so let's get to the example outfit i've noticed that people like to go the pastel route for flora which works but i wanted to step up to the challenge of giving her a romantic outfit of the same vibrancy as the animated show first i'm putting her in this lime green lace dress by the brand mr larkin and on top of the dress i'm adding this green corset by this uh corset maker rachel aaron on instagram i honestly have no idea how this would look because laying corsets is something that you kind of have to see in person to check the fit but in theory i think it looks good i'm giving her just a plain pair of white knee socks and then for her shoes i'm taking no prisoners and giving her the no letto bulla babies in the ultraviolet color way for her transformation look i was debating between a couple different options but i ultimately decided to go with this blue marine set from the spring 2021 collection i love the beaded fringe detailings i think the pastel pink color is super sweet and if you look closely the sequining creates little flower shapes i'm pairing it with these white emanuel ungaro boots that have little flower appliques with a pink center that hopefully matches the blue marine set she wears a lot of flower motifs in the show her name is flora and her power is plants so i feel like this just makes sense let's talk about the other mess misa in fate she's also whitewashed musa is supposed to be east asian inspired i guess because she's technically not from earth but she's very clearly drawn to look east asian i was probably the most hurt by misa because miso was my favorite fairy growing up and i was just so taken aback by what they did to her even whitewashing aside the costuming for her just sucked this is probably the ugliest puffer coat i've ever seen and i hate calling things ugly because i know there's probably like some people who do think it's cute and i don't mean to like on them but i just hate it plus combining it with sweater and jean shorts like you just have to wonder what the weather is like over there it's giving really bad late 2000 slash early 2010s fashion um especially with the jean shorts and knee socks combo here she's wearing a pink bomber jacket and cargo pants i guess the cargo pants are supposed to be like a reference to the cargos she wears in the show but again none of it is cute they picked the most ill-fitting clothes possible for these girls so the real miza is probably the most boyish out of all the girls and the style i've created for musa recognizes this and is also kind of east asian inspired this is because in the animated show miso wears a lot of east asian kinds of garments so i think it'd only be appropriate for her style to be kind of reflective of it i chose a style that was very japanese streetwear-esque nana inspired grunge inspired harajuku fashion to tie in her love of music of course if you all don't know what nana is it's a manga series that started in the early 2000s the plot centers around two girls both named nana one of them is in a punk rock band and the clothes the characters wear take a lot of inspo from real fashion brands like vivian westwood with that said i would put musa mainly in brands like vivian westwood jean-paul gautier myob and vintage trip nyc some of her closet staples would be leather pants and jackets strappy crop tops leg warmers and arm warmers fishnets anything plaid like pants skirts and blazers checkered patterns fur coats combat boots chunky platform shoes and tight second skin mesh tops and because she does wear asian inspired clothes in the show i would also assume she would wear shinuasuri fabrics here and there so for her example outfit i picked out this red and black hand knit tank top from the small new york designer shawna wu with this top i'd pair it with a vintage vivian westwood red tartan plot skirt so underneath the skirt she wore fishnets and loose socks if you watched my japanese schoolgirl video you know what these are i've also noticed that these socks are coming back in style just more generally so you know perfect for shoes i picked new rock platforms i'm gonna pretend it's a cold day so she has an excuse to wear this saks pots fur trimmed red coat on top which i absolutely love um and on top of all that i'm adding a bucket hat from the japanese brand perverse for a transformation look i couldn't find anything that exactly worked out with what i had envisioned for musa um musa's power is sound in music which is kind of difficult to incorporate into fashion unless you're iris van herpen but i wanted to give mises something she could easily move in so sorry iris versace did a look incorporating music motifs in their 1991 collection but i think this dress is a little too loud no pun intended valentino did a dress with music notes for their spring 2014 collection but this dress is too long i think and i also would rather pick something more colorful mosquito incorporated a couple of music inspired looks for their spring 2020 collection but yeah i think it's all too over the top as well i think what best represents what i'm looking for is this area set from the fall 2016 collection it's bright pink and shiny like the discotheque and resembles the style of 1970s glam rock stars like david bowie the music connection with this outfit is a lot more muted and is a reference to a particular genre of music but i think it ends up working yes i'm doing techno because why would i agree to do anything netflix came up to me with if they were gonna remove tecna like my first thought was to put her in a very cyberpunk-ish aesthetic i know techwear is a popular style as well these days but i just don't associate techwear with like teenage girls if you are a teenage girl more techwear go you but most techwear is like pretty monochromatic black and white and it just doesn't scream fairy to me so i decided not to go with techware i think techno would wear a lot of strappy deconstructed tops and pants the straps resemble wires which obviously goes with her whole thing she wear neon colors clothes with visible hemlines and like musa she would also go for second skin tops but of different kinds of designs ones that give off more cyborg vibes if that makes sense i also see her wearing futuristic sunglasses i've seen some people lean towards iridescent fabrics for techna but i personally find it hard to disassociate iridescent fabrics from the awful galaxy aesthetic that was going on in the early 2010s and i can say that because i had galaxy tights myself so no iridescence for her please her favorite brands would be auto linger they do official on a charlotte knolls she said and eckhouse lata let's do an example look so first i would give her this ribbed knit top by situationist it reminds me a little bit of wires running down a switchboard i would layer on top this auto linger spring 2019 shirt over it i just love how cable like the strings are i'll add these purple pants by giorgio andreaza the only photo on the store website is of someone wearing it in the orange colorway but i want to bring out the green and purple combo in tecna's og outfits so we're sticking to purple for this one and to finish the look i would give her these swear london platform boots which have the coolest looking souls ever and give me spacey astronaut vibes for a transformation look i think anything from doodoo officials 2019 collection would be just insane i love how these suits are reflective as well and something green or purple would tie in with her original design as well i would pair the dress with these biblos by blues fall 2019 boots that are giving all the cyborg okay that's all i have for today thank you so much for tuning in this was a lot of fun i was kind of nervous about this idea because it's so much different from what i usually do i don't think i've ever done like a styling video before um i do a lot more styling stuff on my tick tock but yeah nothing on youtube i guess or at least there was that wardrobe thing that i did my wardrobe tour but that's different because i was styling myself um let me know in the comments which outfit you liked the most that i designed and just do your favorite wings girls in general i'm always interested in hearing I love Mina! Her Stella look left me kinda 'uhhh' but perhaps the look, like Stella, is just ahead of the curve. Her Musa look though, I love the NANA references in her and ModernGurlz' videos on the fashion. I adore what both of them came up with the most. Also both really getting the ultra romantic fits for Flora. Dreamy cottagecore inspo is so on brand.
