see this 100-year-old foundation wall today we are tearing it out this is the mansion my great great grandfather bought for $7,000 with the help of my friend Roman and my neighbor Justin I am fully Remodeling and restoring it up to this point we fully gutted the attic upstairs main floor and basement we then insulated removed walls and rebuilt all the floors on the main floor upon Reb building main floor walls we noticed the Center Foundation of the house was settling so this brings us to today down in the basement of the house we are starting to get some settlement going on in this Center wall particularly from right here to right there and from right there to right there so we are going to be removing this entire wall and then getting everything set up so that way we can build a brand new wall that will support these areas that are starting to settle out and this is going to be no small Tas we have to tear out all the way from that corner all the way to this back corner and then over in the side rooms we need to tear out this wall and then coming back to the main area we have this entire wall that we are going to be ripping out and not only that we have from right here over to that wall we're going to be pulling everything out so that way we can get things ready to be rebuilt so that way we can resupport and make all of this way better than it currently is build back better Justin and Roman are going to get started knocking some blocks down I need to go dump the dump truck because we're going to need to throw our blocks in here oh it is cold out today it's actually starting to snow a little bit we've been spoiled we've had 70° like the past 2 weeks and now it's like 20 thumb truck's [Music] empty [Music] and as we're breaking out blocks today and carrying things up I need to be very careful I am a week into a partial pectoral minor tear right here so so when I grab anything in here and when I hold stuff with my right hand and I would assume hitting with a sledgehammer that it's not going to feel very good so we're just going to play it easy and if something's hurting me I'm not going to do it so if you see me being a little bit of a little bit of a dog in the corner that's why we're trying to keep her body healthy let everything repair we're standing in the spot where our big black tank in the basement used to be and for whatever reason the big support being that held up the center of the floor floor where it actually ties into the foundation wall they had no blocking underneath of it so that board is literally just sitting there as much as the floor above it wanted to Sag down it could cuz this wasn't supported on anything so we just put in some temporary blocking back in there because right now this is what's actually holding up the floor joist above our head since we're ripping the stuff out in the middle that's where it sits on on the other end so we need this beam here to keep the floor from absolutely falling in on itself [Music] if you've ever carried cinder blocks around before you understand there's two different types of cinder blocks there's the ones that are like okay this is a normal cinder block then you got the other ones that are like holy cow are you kidding me this is a cinder block this thing weighs 3,000 lb well these are the ones that are a holy cow are you kidding me this thing weighs 3,000 lb I am 175 lb right on the dot when I do not have a cinder block in my hands see what I weigh with one 230 each block weighs 55 [Music] lb [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] h [Music] we're 2 hours into wall demolition we already got the dump truck this full we are going to have to dump this here soon because we are getting close to what the dump truck can tip up and actually be able to tip these bricks are heavy Roman still getting a few more out I just threw a couple pork burgers on the grill we're going to have these for lunch I'm really pleased with the progress we are making we basically have the whole back corner done plus the little stem wall that was around the side so I would call this a good halfway point so for 2 hours of work that is not too bad we are not going to be able to get this little bottom part yet until we start breaking up some of this concrete because the blocks are halfway covered with the concrete they would have build these walls first and then poured the floor so once we tear tear this out then we'll be able to tear the rest of that [Music] out [Music] it is 40° today Sal Sun helps a little bit but to keep warm I need to keep moving [Music] oh wall number one down baby wall number two baby wall number three big wall number four down how you feeling tired overworked I'm tired from Justin being tired he says he is but he's not and we now have a full dump truck possibly a little too full we'll see if this is going to dump I'm not going to lie hauling that out felt like way more block than that Justin recommended to build a uh storm shelter for my chicken house so we're trying to salvage as many blocks as we can now 2 3 4 5 6 7 37 one the most fun part is actually carrying these is it yeah Justin loves it well it's not going to get out in the truck by itself guys that's right give me the [Music] camera [Music] we've got the walls in the back of the basement out now everything that we see is encased in the concrete so we cannot get these ones out yet until we start ripping up the concrete floor as we work our way down we are now at the one behind the furnace so we cannot knock this wall out yet because the furnace is in the way so Justin's going to go get the sauce off and we're going to cut this PVC pipe this furnace is literally just sitting on these blocks then we have the flexible gas line up above so we're simply just going to slide the furnace to the middle of the room rehook up the PVC pipe make sure the gas line is not draping down we're going to hit it and then we're going to be able to take out this wall and and and what we don't need electricity no okay this is a natural gas furnace what do you think that means I wasn't thinking let's try that again whoa Bessie that's all we got hey what are you doing that was lined up perfect we could just duct taped it from there where's the duct tape I thought you had it I thought you had it I thought you had it that is not that's not duct tape not duct tape oh wait never mind Justin this is Duck tape you were hiding it yeah it was hiding on the Shelf in there say again Wasing what it was right on the Shelf in there you need to look and you knew it all the time look with your eyes the next time I don't have glasses I don't see it get out of here who would have duct taped the sewer who was duct taping the sewer Cole what me why are you guys looking at me like this you're acting like I'm the only person in the who's ever duct taped the sewer line safety first Roman since you're a properly technici HVAC technician you should know that those go on immediately and the furnace should never operate without the safety covers in place cuz it won't there is a safety switch that will not even ignite without these on that's not true unless you override it and press on was put duct tape on that that is that is very true that is very true how do you know this Roman what year did that expire Best Buy Best Buy not Best Buy May 6th 20 [Music] 20 [Music] we already dumped the dump truck once this is what we got we're just about at a full second load here we actually probably would be at a full second load if we didn't have this why are all those bricks stacked up there they're waiting for what Justin had a great idea that I I would build a the tornado shelter for the chickens cuz you know overall it's a strategic food you have eggs all the time no matter what happens like if you have armagedon or what do you call it armadon I don't know Armageddon Armageddon there you go so so you mean when you're dead and already in heaven anyway then your chickens can survive well but I don't know before I die I need to take care of my children so I want to have my chickens in the safe place and I think Justin has a point and if they if chickens have a shelter then my children and my wife are secure too as eggs so I think that should be enough for 10 chickens I would certainly hope so got more blocks there got more blocks over there Roman's got all his wood for his chicken coop over there you know when stuff hits the fan don't come to me begging for eggs actually you're welcome to come I I weaken chir just don't be CH don't be just don't be touching my chickens wait Roman that's not an actual diagram this just two chickens in a square hey you didn't let me finish the drawing it's like genesis of the story there was a male and female and then they had children and children had children long uh how do they say uh behold L and behold long and behold I'll be chicken chicken farmers of farmers I'll be selling chickens to everyone the reason why we tore out our block wall was because there are some spots where see how the wall is actually holding up the ceiling like everything is touching up there and then when we have areas like this where there is nothing actually holding up the floor so this this wall is just here to separate the rooms it's not actually holding up the floor underneath this big beam which is where the wall we just tore out used to be there are some spots where the wall was actually holding up the floor and then we had other spots like right here where the wall was not touching the floor at all so it made our floor sag this big beam was sagging and the only way that we could fix our floor issue and fix our beam issue was to tear out the wall and rebuild a brand new wall right where this one is so that's exactly what we did and that is why we now have a torn out wall and this beam that runs in the center of the house is a major support beam for the entire structure of the house literally every single wall is stacked on top of this so all the way from the center of the roof line to the upstairs walls and downstairs walls are sitting right here in the middle of the house so we want to make make sure that this wall is never going to go anywhere we're going to be doing a ton of building upstairs we're going to be adding a lot of weight so the last thing we want to do put all that much time energy money and effort into it and then we have a 100-year-old Foundation underneath of the house that decides you know what I wasn't designed for this and we're going to give out a little bit and then all of our floors would bow walls would start cracking and it would just not be good so while we have everything tore apart this isn't very fun job to do but we're just biting the bullet and we're diving into it that way we know 100% for sure that the house is going to buildt on top of an absolute rock it is not going to be going anywhere another reason that we were able to justify tearing out the walls is we want to redo all the concrete in the floors that way we can put floor drains in and we can put water mitigation systems underneath as well as new Plumbing so these extra walls that we're through here are going to be really difficult to work around when we are pouring the conrete so by getting rid of the ones that we don't need it's going to make the concrete pour easier and then also since we already have the mess of everything absolutely tore up getting to the bottom of these is just like Hey we're already right there so it's it adds an extra 2 days of work but the juice is worth the squeeze and what we're going to be getting out of it all right Roman are you ready to tear out that wall no no I'm tired hey I'm done for today all right I guess you guys heard the man we're both fired so this is all I got for today thanks for watching we'll see you in the next [Music] one
