stand over there as we walk to times square and i think hey liz liz come on our friends are here come on [Music] okay all right blind you it's apple so good are you going to share mmm you can't get a half one it's so juicy oh wow yeah it's a good apple that's right so all this month we are working through three a kid's guide to connect with jesus there are times when we may not spend as much time in our bible hearing from god or in prayer talking to god this past year we may have gotten disconnected from church and from worshiping jesus with our friends with our other believers but don't worry we are taking each week to discover steps to reconnect with jesus yep each of those steps starts with r e the first week we talked about realize and how we need to realize that jesus is the lord over our life the second week we talked about the word repent and how we need to repent and choose jesus over ourselves and the third week we focused on the word renew we learned that we can't renew ourselves but only jesus can renew our minds daily and now for this week's reword of the week delaney remain oh no no you gotta you gotta jazz it up a little bit this week's reword of the weekend that was good i was a little worried that you lost your pizza nonsense oh okay yeah never you know what makes me think of apples um oh i know teachers well no but teachers are super awesome thank you teachers apples make me think of apple trees oh so what do you say we go to central park and check out fall foliage fall what you know like trees and leaves falling and pumpkins and flowers all right hopefully all right let's go [Music] these grapes are so delicious i found them in granny garcho's fridge just thought i would help myself while she's taking a nap oh my oh i must have gotten a little tired what do we have here oh hello there lady hey what do you think you're doing with my grapes i need them to tell our bible story for today you're eating the prop well i can't do much about the ones that i already ate but i could spit the one out that's happy into my mouth no no no lane no this is all right i can i can work with this yes this is this is fine okay all right you see today we're talking about the word remain remain means to stay in place or continue to exist or just be there's a great bible verse in the book of john that talks about why we need to remain connected to jesus oh yes i know this one it's john chapter 15 verses 5 through 8. i am the vine you are the branches if you remain joined to me and i to you you will bear a lot of fruit you can't do anything without me if you don't remain joined to me you are like a branch that is thrown away and dries up branches like those are picked up they are thrown into the fire and burned if you remain joined to me and my words remain in you ask for anything you wish and it will be done for you when you bear a lot of fruit it brings glory to my father it shows that you are my disciples oh you see these are grapes which hang off of this branch which this branch is then connected to the vine that's how clusters of grapes like this one grow on a vine now because i bought these at the grocery store they've recently been cut off of the vine now what do you think will happen to these grapes eventually since they are disconnected from the vine if they aren't eaten of course [Music] what do you think lane well i think i'm gonna eat all the grapes before anything happens to them yes that's what i'm going to do but let's say i didn't eat them all before too long those grapes will have shriveled up dried out and probably looks something like a raisin don't you think gertrude oh i couldn't agree with you more the longer those grapes are disconnected from the vine the sooner they will look a little something like this you see shriveled up dried out little sad looking loop droopy loopy now in the verse you mentioned lane jesus said i am the vine you are the branches if you remain joined to me and i to you you will bear a lot of fruit you can't do anything without me jesus was trying to tell us that he is the source of all life and if we aren't connected to jesus we are very limited in what we can do just like if this branch isn't connected to the vine it's it's not going to produce any more grapes it's no longer connected to the source that that gives it life that gives it all the things it needs to grow it'll without it it'll wither up and get all droopy and shriveled just like it's raisin when we cut ourselves off from jesus maybe we aren't praying we're reading the bible with our family or maybe we don't go to our local church to worship with other believers we will stop growing fruit too like the spiritual fruit that we hear about in the bible we won't have the love the joy the peace the patience the kindness the goodness the faithfulness the gentleness and self-control instead we might feel more sadness anger fear unless we remain in jesus unless we abide in him and abide is a fancy word for resting in jesus's love we know that he loves us that he's given himself for us and that he wants us to love him too wow so jesus is like the tree and i am like a branch on the tree if a branch gets cut off it's not going to grow beautiful flowers or leaves or in my case i'm not going to grow good things in me like love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self-control if i'm not connected to jesus yep i really need to make sure i stay connected to jesus yeah me too that's why we need to remember this remain in jesus and bear fruit say that with me remain in jesus and bear fruit if we abide or rest in jesus's love we can face anything like if a friend wrongs us we can confidently respond in love or if we're waiting on our little brother and he's taking forever to get his shoes on it's easier for us to have a patient attitude and if we lose someone that we really love jesus gives us peace in our hearts that surpasses all understanding when we're connected to him you know this last year and a half has been really hard with covid and all the shutdowns maybe you're feeling like you've gotten disconnected from jesus maybe you haven't been praying or talking to god or you haven't read or listened to your bible lately or maybe it's been a while since you gathered with your friends at church to talk about god but don't worry there is still good news for you yes liz you see there might not be anything we can do to make a raisin look like a nice grape again but jesus loves you and he always welcomes us back by starting to spend more time with him he reconnects us to the vine after all he loves you and no matter what is going on around you you can always reconnect with him you can remain in jesus and bear fruit once again let's use this tip from our lead pastor pastor sammy that he uses the word fruit to help us understand how god bears fruit within us the f for fruit stands for faithful if we stay faithful to jesus and what his word says we are certainly going to grow good things the r stands for repentance surely if we keep that repentant attitude that we talked about last week and go to god regularly to ask for forgiveness he will fill us with joy and peace the you in fruit stands for understanding did you know that you are never done learning from god in order to bear fruit we have to keep growing and understanding and wisdom from god the i stands for intentional i know that is a big word but it boils down to thinking before you act like do you ever think before you say things or do you think things through before you do them remember that saying wwjd what would jesus do thinking about what he would do and doing it is a really intentional way to live that will grow love kindness and goodness within you and lastly the t is for tested we don't go looking for tests or trials tests and trials are gonna find us and through these gods stretches us and grows us it may not feel like it or seem like it when we're in the middle of something that's really hard but if we can look at hard things the way god does we will know they each had a purpose to grow more patience gentleness and self-control within us john 15 8 says when you bear a lot of fruit it brings glory to my father it shows that you are my disciples [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so really struggling with my three times table math is so hard oh i know i feel that i struggle with english and so sometimes what i do is i will put something into a song or you know kind of like our memory verse you know motions but i think with times tables yeah i'm sure that you can come up with a song huh that's a good point let me think how about this 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 and 27 isn't counting fun hey i like that you got it nice thanks that was so good friends aaron mitch just got his three times tables isn't that incredible well i know how to celebrate that yeah and celebrate that
