Use Your Gifts To Help Others | LH Kids

howdy friends i am liz seidel and i am so excited to be with you this morning i am the kids director here at lighthouse church i have the privilege of serving families and kids and working with a ton of leaders who love your kids and love sharing jesus with your kids so i am super pumped today because we just came out of love week which was awesome there were so many opportunities so many people coming out to serve those around them if you were one of those people who contributed who were a part of love week thank you i am praying that the impact that we had during this past week just continues and continues and we get to see god's blessing just keep going and going through the hours the time that you guys put in this past week and that concluded our reseries which was super awesome as well we heard testimonies coming out of re from week one so if you didn't get a chance to read sammy's book you can still check it out it is on the lh app and will be available so make sure you read you get reconnected and our lh kids content will continue to remain available as well on the youtube channel so we got a brand new series mini series to finish out the rest of october here in lh kids and it's all about superheroes superpowers and being an individual using your unique giftings that god has given you so before we get into that before we get into worship i want to pray for you let's do that now lord god we thank you i thank you for every person watching father i thank you for their life and i thank you for the gifts that you've given them even if they don't know what they are yet i thank you for them and father i pray that you would help them figure out what they are so they can go out and use them boldly we love you and it's in jesus name we pray amen all right friends what do you say we get to a memory verse and then we count it down so we can get to worship all right ryan what's wrong all i keep hearing is find it and i just just don't know how to find the memory verse in the bible oh well don't worry about that i have my ipad with the bible at oh there's an app for that there is wow and it's right here psalm 51 10 creating me a pure heart oh god and renew a steadfast spirit within me psalm 51 10 exactly yes okay and how did you find that well once you go to the bible app and you go to the bible and then it'll send you all to the scriptures wow that is awesome okay but we have one problem for it's a brand new month oh yeah so we have a brand new memory verse and i have this can you help me find the new memory verse in this you know what yes i can yes i think the memory verse for this month is psalm 139 verse 14. okay well this is a bible so you can absolutely find it you open up the pages and right in the beginning is what's called a table of contents or it's just a list of all the books in the bible okay so you load to the book that you're looking for which is psalms right there you found it yes and then it tells you the page number so it looks like it says 369. okay so let's flip and why what is there's names of things up at the top of the page oh that's just the different books of the bible they're just letting you know which book you're in when you flip through the pages wow all right almost 369. a little too far okay so now we're here and then we need psalm 139 yep okay so so i see it it says psalm 29 and then psalm 30 okay so now i need to find psalm 139 okay oh right there yes yes okay and now how do i find the verse so then you go right there some 139 and you just scroll down the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 14 yes and that says i praise you because i am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful i know that full well yep we just found the memory murse yes good job should we with our friends should we repeat that memory verse oh together yes yes all right so it says psalm 139 14. here we go i praise you because i am fearfully and wonderfully made your works are wonderful you're as excited as i am to talk about this very big word for the rest of the month you see each of us is a custom creation like list here wow delaney remember you're supposed to call me by my superhero name i'm liz the fiery falcon okay all right well then i guess you should call me by my superhero name i'm delaney the gentle giraffe oh that's why you're so tall well you see god made us he gave us each our very own personality our likes and our dislikes everything that makes us who we are he has a good plan for each and every one of us and as we grow every day we'll find out more and more about god's purpose for our lives and that's what individuality is all about individuality is discovering who you're meant to be so you can make a difference [Music] that's right liz what do you think makes every superhero different [Music] yes they're super powers each of us has something different to bring to the world like our very own personal superpowers there's only one of you and you were created in god's image with god's help you can make the most of all the things that make you special and unique you can use the unique way god made you to make a difference in the lives of others to learn more let's get into our story for today yeah good idea today we're hearing about a girl named lydia and we can read about her in the book of acts she grew up in a small town which was known for its craftsmen and craftswomen lydia's specialty was making purple cloth which was really rare back then let's check this out the bible it's 66 books of history stories letters and poetry that fit together to form god's one big story the epic adventure of how he created us and loves us so much that he made a way to rescue us as we travel through the bible from genesis to revelation we discover people who met god and found their lives changed forever now for an amazing story inspired by the book of acts chapter 16 verses 13 through 15. lydia thiatara was a remarkable woman her city was known for its craftsmen especially those who made and sold expensive purple dye take a look i use only the finest snail shells though most successful people in business were men lydia learned the craft of purple dye and when she traveled to the roman city of philippi she set up a business selling rare expensive purple cloth please note we have lilac plum iris lavender and grape fabric laid out and over here you'll find amethyst eggplant and orchid lydia had likely been raised to believe in many false gods but in her heart she knew there was something more the jewish people believe in just one god what if they're right the city of philippi had laws against bringing any unknown religion into the city but lydia would meet outside the city gates on the riverbank with a group of women who believed in the one true god love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul love him with all your strength lydia and the other women had never heard of jesus but as they began to seek god together god sent a vision to someone else the apostle paul who was staying in the greek city of troas a dream it was so vivid i saw a man standing right here begging me he said come over to macedonia help us immediately paul and his friends set sail within a few days they reached land and traveled to philippi one of the most important cities in macedonia so we just start by finding a synagogue of jewish believers right i don't think there is a synagogue here on the sabbath a day of worship paul and his friends went down to the river hoping to find a place of prayer shall we gather at the river um excuse me hi there do you wish to join us we're praying to the one true god absolutely there by the river paul told the story of jesus and how anyone who chose to follow jesus could have a relationship with god that lasts forever but this is amazing this changes everything the lord opened lydia's heart to believe every word of paul's message i wish to be baptized at once not only was lydia baptized but she immediately shared the good news with her family and everyone who lived and worked in her home they too were baptized lydia gathered paul and his friends do you consider me a believer in the lord if you do come and stay at my house we would be honored as a successful businesswoman lydia's house was likely large and beautiful we must meet here from now on lydia did not hesitate to give everything she had to the believers in the brand new church and when paul and silas were later thrown in prison and then released they immediately returned to lydia's home to rest and prepare before they left the city you must be brave of course we will don't forget to write later paul did write a letter to lydia and others in the church of philippi and he remembered his time spent in lydia's home in the church there with great joy i thank my god every time i remember you in all my prayers for all of you i always pray with joy i'm happy because you have joined me in spreading the good news god began a good work in you and i am sure that he will carry it on until it is completed in everything she did lydia continued to use her gifts to help others lydia's story isn't one that you hear very often but she gave us such a great example of how we can use our individuality to help others she put her faith in jesus then she immediately put her faith into action when she invited paul and his friends to stay at her house remember lydia was gifted in making a type of cloth that sold for a lot of money she didn't just keep the money for herself though she took what she was good at and used it to help other people and god has given you gifts that you can use to help others too gifts can look different for everyone maybe you're talented at making something like lydia maybe you're a good listener or maybe you can help people learn new things like me i can help people get stuff from the top shelf there are lots of different ways that god gives people gifts it's all a part of your individuality but those gifts aren't just for you it's true this week remember this use your gifts to help others say that with me use your gifts to help others if i needed help i know i'd want my friends and the people around me to be willing to use their gifts to give me a hand we all need each other so i want to use my gifts to help the people around me that's a great way that i can treat others the way i want to be treated and if you feel like maybe you don't know what your gifts are don't worry just think of something you're good at or something that you like to do or maybe you have a secret superpower like us think about the ways that you're kind and generous to your friends god created each of us with individuality and gave us different ways to help other people [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay delaney since we're a little new to this whole superhero gig i think we should spend the rest of this month honing our skills oh yeah what do you say yeah okay so um uh i mean i don't even know where to start maybe we can uh walking on fire maybe or training in the gym so we can get like super strength or maybe bungee jumping so we can practice our flying skills or um um um actually yeah i i had something pretty simple in mind um i think we could just practice dodging something i mean we need to know how to how to be quick and how to how to move quickly but i'm already quick yeah uh well we gotta we gotta work on it more oh what if something's being thrown at us or we have to duck into a back alley because someone's chasing us you know yeah that's okay all right well i i guess i guess that's a good place to start okay okay good good good well today we're playing dodge the bottle [Music] okay delaney so [Music] you're right gentle giraffe fiery foul that's right we're gonna be playing dodge the bottle and here's how that goes so first we'll need to place these on our heads okay in a few moments after we place these on our heads having a little trouble oh is yours on yet yep we'll pop in my giraffe okay in a few moments [Music] in a few moments there will be a water bottle that will drop from the ceiling and we will have to dodge it very effective i'm not really sure but it sure was fun that's right i mean superheroes need to have fun right right so good it's good that we did that well this week remember use your gifts to help
