Real Magician Reacts to Hollywood Magic!!

hey welcome back team we are gonna look at some movies and tv shows that have magic in them we are both magicians okay yeah i know i've invited chris on to uh this video i've invited him to his own office thank you for that appreciate it you're welcome and he's gonna help me break down some of these scenes we're gonna tell you if it's actually magic or if it's just hollywood bs [ __ ] let's go let's have a look well that's just a finger roll oh christian bale just doing that finger roll with the oh he's doing the um the griffin roll yeah with the ring with the ring i can do that actually yeah uh this is the griffin roll i mean it's hard to do with a smaller ring you got big meaty sausage fingers yeah do you think he did it uh no so that the where the hand is it looks like it could be someone else's hair it definitely is a hand double it's definitely not chris i mean they would have emphasized it even more i think if it was really his hand they would have showed that very cleanly it's like a guy slipping through the back doing that or doing the coin roll i've seen or even playing cards they'll literally get up and they'll make it look like it's his uh okay because i thought just because the way he's lying and the hands coming out of nowhere i'm like it feels like oh the 100 i'm that i would love to see the behind the scenes of that and just this one magician being like yeah eyes closed just kidding yeah he's just on the radio he's under the sheets just another uh christian bale and procedure love this movie by the way best magic movie get out of here everybody that's a good point well maybe i'm just buying my time maybe one day i'll uh open mind get your attention ask her a week are you watching closely maybe a magic word or two and then i'll be gone so this is this is why i kill this one because he's meant to have like hooked a guy's foot like undone his his handcuffs [Applause] i mean i like that a lot it feels a lot like i mean obviously you couldn't actually do that though like not practically there's no way there's no way you could practically do that i like that a lot better because you actually get to see some sleight of hand and for a split second he does that really well that palm yeah with the ball you see his hands sort of flex like this those magicians we know he's palm in that uh but he did it really well and then uh i mean that's a good scene so it's a good blend of like something they did for real and something that is just yeah yeah it's great all right here's one from how i met your mother i cannot stand idly by while you make the biggest mistake any man can make getting married mark my words this whole thing is gonna go up in flames oh damn neil patrick harris is a magician yeah so this is that's why i'm like oh he'll be great and you can just see in his right hand how his licorice fingers are right right he's holding the thing and i'm like oh he's like so yeah this is he's doing it for real he's legit doing magic which is really cool it's great and it's just so interesting how they he would see this and probably cringe because he knows his fingers in a weird spot right but because it's a sitcom it doesn't matter it doesn't really matter it's not about the magic and this whole thing is not about like hey watch this magic trick so i mean that's that's a really good thing about magic too is like a lot of times the best magic is the unexpected when you don't know someone's a magician and then they pull something off like that those are the most incredible moments yeah that's and they do it a lot in the show and i think it's just great so neil patrick harris is like [ __ ] awesome so he really is uh here's a classic from mission impossible mission impossible really yeah tom cruise is also a magician like he has a huge interest in manchester united yes what's the matter you you've never seen this trick that was good really good that was really [ __ ] good where'd it go that's legit so that was [ __ ] planted on her but yeah so good a few things i really like about that and a few things that are a little bit hollywood i really like the initial vanish because that move this movie that is so good it's a very magicky thing to do when you're vanishing something oh it's gone uh magicians know what's up there the part that is hollywood is that there would have been an ugly sound attached to that it would not have been that silent and right they 100 muted that sound so if you play that clip again i'm down for that kind of uh yeah yeah that's i mean again they're doing it for a movie it's not you know magic for magic's sake but there's no sound here i've never seen this trick oh it's dead silent you're right yeah they they they which makes it incredibly deceptive because there still is room tone so they kept all the room tone that normal buzz you hear and they've just taken out that this what it would sound like really bad and he absolutely really well too like he's playing like he's doing the moves like a magician would like doing them better magicians will they'll run through patter like that doesn't even make sense because they're nervous and they're doing the tricks they'll be like so what we have here is a cd and a cd if you just think about what cd is the left hand or right hand cd's gone right they'll just ramble because they're kind of trying to get through the trick and he actually has to stick to lines so he's sticking to lines his character so he's got a whole bunch of other things to think about other than magic but yeah like i said there's a huge thing in vancouver i'm from our my hometown magic shop there they have like a legendary story of tom cruise dropping in wow and that's how i found out he was under magic well i want to buy everything he bought but i didn't have the money all right now you see me too we have to break this one down as we go it's pretty long like he's obviously learned how to do front pawn back bomb yep those are all legit moves so far uh was it uh dave franco he's obviously learned all these moves we know the people who worked uh on the scene i think blake voight and andre geek uh so they taught him all these moves they had to work that was a legit move too by the way he flipped and caught his mouth that's absolutely legit i know it's a legitimate but he did it yep [ __ ] 100 this guy learned so much on the scene um he was he was absolutely obsessed with card throwing as well apparently that's why i brought on chris you know and uh and yeah actually you guys recreated this scene no whose channel yeah andre's one of his most viral videos you guys go check it out they recreated this kind of take my pants off it was kind of funny so this is getting he split under his arm okay yeah so that this is all horseshoe that was this throw is horseshit yeah that's a real palm yeah that's this is absolute garbage yeah that's all no way there's no way that would ever work it's cool though yeah really cool again they're mixing it up pretty well real and fake so this is all [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] so weird it is really cool how they finally incorporated sleight of hand magic into something like this like a heist movie yeah i think that's it's never really been done successfully oh undershoot interesting good misdirection i'd buy that she's looking for someone to throw to she's like this and she has it in the throwing grip i like that puts in her hair that's a legit place to hide things i guess yeah close the back bra classic that's really smooth all that's really great hey do that myself [Music] oh she's got it behind there yeah that's some cardistry [ __ ] too so yeah yeah sticking to your finger like that that's legit my eyes are up here man that's a good good tenkai palm this has got more real magic than i thought it's got more real magic than fake magic this is completely weird that doesn't make sense how the card would have been attached to that yeah [Music] you think he's holding it now magicians would do that a lot with cards with coins and everything it's it takes you down a path where i got you and then it makes the magic so much better because you guessed wrong as red herrings to throw you off that scene is absolutely great it was genius the way they wrote it the way they the way like you said the way they melded the right amount of cgi and actual sleight of hand i think is still respectful to magicians and still tells a good story i think the way uh the way since i've been doing these i really realized that that's my favorite kind when they when they mix it when they just do straight hollywood i'm like ah you could have had a little bit man straight side hand is not that impressive exactly you got to give the right feeling to the audience riverdale yeah this is you isn't it yeah trust me princess yeah i knew this about him hit me so mad i was supposed to be that guy and they cut me so it's just my hands this lodge wins i couldn't say miss lodge wins so this is the move they made me do what now i have the name of a dealer you might want to bring in johnny goldwater he has nimble fingers that's all they wanted who would ever deal blackjack that way pretty good move though that's a hilarious way to deal blackjack someone turn over the card they're fired sir get out of my casino you have no business being there dealing blackjack like that just flipping over cards and changing them because like they wanted me to like change the card so i kept doing bottom imagine showing them a card and then giving them a different one that's it the director's like we can't see what you're doing i'm like yeah that's how you cheated cards people can't see it and he was so confused by that logic he's like show me the card and then change it i'm like okay totally not how you deal cards all right here's the last one reference go ahead and pick this pencil surprise please will the last time you showed me a magic trick it took two months for my hair to grow back yeah i know that was then and this is now behold the great wildini all right now here give me your watch all right all right boom chocolate what happened to abracadabra no no just black magic ash that's good that's real yeah it's a change bag kind of weak but real now here we go behold a bottle just as any other justice any others he's he's very like a magician exactly what a magician would say shaka khan i remember this episode oh yeah two real tricks and he really did him and he did him as good as any magician's gonna do them yeah i think he did better again you know what i mean kind of weird choices but yeah i love you know i love that line of uh like boom shakalaka and she's like well what happened to agriculture like this is black magic i think that's such a great line for i mean it's just so perfect in that situation yeah that's great i mean that's really creative uh as for the tricks i mean those are pretty hack tricks and i guess but that that's like something you could just hand to someone teaching 50 seconds like will did not that was probably the first time you ran them because it didn't matter he's like i just turned the thing and i just hit the thing okay yeah it's great yeah it's great i mean that level of uh sitcom absolutely i mean they didn't have to fake it or anything and they you know what the truth is they probably even brought a consultant a magician on set to teach will those tricks so there's probably somebody out there who we probably have met at a convention somewhere who's worked with will smith on fresh prince to teach him those two tricks if you've ever seen magic on tv or movies there's always a magician behind the scenes working at least one uh working hard at you know either training the talent or doing the hand double stuff or just consulting with the director and producers on what the magic should look like yeah you know especially for this one with the will smith one uh i was like oh yeah if you found an old box of magic where someone was into magic for a little bit that's probably two tricks that would for sure be in there oh i'd be so excited to find that right yeah yeah so you i found old boxes of magic and i had no idea what ninety percent of what i found was like what is it it's just all balls yeah exactly you know back in the day there weren't automatic tricks either like there was like you had to have a nine minute routine worked out for anything that you found in that box but those are two great tricks that's great man this is fun i like it a lot i like it a lot it's fun to know and it's fun for me because like i watch these movies whatever years ago so it's uh it's cool to look back at them now and be like all right let's break it down so that's kind of neat i I teach filmmaking and do magic as a small hobby. A student mentioned the card scene in “Now You See Me 2.” I watched it and was annoyed as an amateur magician and as a filmmaker.
