episode hello everyone we are here at the hockenheim ring we're excited because it's not the finale here we're breaking with a tradition we've got four more races to go we're excited to be here at the hockenheim ring with wonderful weather we've got so many fans and spectators here the atmosphere is absolutely exciting and a man is absolutely psyched is calvin van der linde you seem to be in best spirits you're starting in pole position you're third in the championship but only 13 points behind liam so i guess now is the time to catch up with those points and to fight back right definitely we've been fighting a lot the last couple of weeks but um just a nice reward from our mechanics obviously they've been working so hard you know sometimes you see a p8 result but they work just as hard as for a p1 result so this is obviously nice we're in the spotlight but obviously um yeah today counts we want to get valuable points and let's see how we go and what's it like here with the atmosphere i mean so many people here so many spectators what's it like for you it's great the one nice thing is actually to turn the music down for us this time because we're so far up front the last couple of weeks had to turn it up for us but you know so anyway i'm enjoying the music i'm enjoying all the fans here nice weather so let's see all right enjoy the race best of luck and now here's your commentator thanks very much indeed verina here we are then in this penultimate weekend of the season incredible to think that we've only got eight days left in the championship with back-to-back weekends coming up to determine this year's champion and that's how it looks after this morning's qualifying session top three again for liam lawson the fifth time so another championship point on 276 and 11 points clear of marco vittman he's struggling all weekend long with the bmw and he's got success bullets to add to the car for the race as well and then kelvin van der linde on pole position for the fourth time this season moving on to 163 points he has closed the gap at the to the top of the table as farina said to just 13 points now with 25 points available for each of the remaining four races we've still got three qualifying sessions to go as well so there are still 109 championship points potentially uh available death goal there and his first season of the championship had an off in free practice one but uh glad to see he's back and up and running for this race right we can head back to the grid now and back down to varina and i'm here with the leader of the championship liam lawson liam you seem relaxed as ever but obviously now with only four races to go this is what it's all about you're the leader of the championship but only a gap of 13 points so what are you going to do to get all the way to the front i think today is going to be tough obviously they had a massive gap to us in quality um they were purple all three sectors uh half a second gap to p2 so that's going to be tough obviously to go up against plus we have the weight from essen which he doesn't have so um honestly our top three results today would be positive we need to score as many points as possible um obviously i don't want to let him get away and if there's an opportunity to fight with either the leaders i i will but um at the end of the day yeah we will do the best job we can and when we see we finish all right well best of luck thank you so much liam i want to go over to uh maxi guts who's starting in p6 and in fact he's actually not so easy because there's so many people here it's not that easy to cross but let's find maxie here he is so maxi goetz in p6 and he's fourth of the championship so here's maxie hello maxie sorry to interrupt very impolite but we're live so obviously it's all about the championship from this point you're the fourth in the championship so what are you going to do starting from uh p6 it's going to be tough race right yeah it's tough um so i just talked to danny he's my teammate in the end we have the same color on the car which is nice and of course uh he will not help but in the end if i'm faster than him of course he will not really race hard against me so in the end i need every point as you said uh like whitman is behind a bit but lawson is still again good even with the bop change and and kevin is on paul so in the end it's it's hard time for us it was again the qualifying which i missed one and a half tenths so we have to work on this but in the race let's see now where we end up for us as fans and spectators is so exciting because between the four of you it's only 20 points so really with four more races to go anything is possible what's it like for a driver knowing it's so close this season absolutely it so makes me so proud and also the team and also mercedes mg to be in the fight with the top guys in the dtm so it's super happy we had a very good season so far very consistent getting points nearly every race except one race and lousy swing so in the end we try to continue and in the end the season is over when the flag drops in the second race in norway's ring so we we fight till the end and uh today is another race and the gut feeling is good though for today's race yes i think so i'm fully motivated i tell you and also the fans will wait for a good race and i push like as much as i can i'm sure you will thank you so much maxi enjoy the race best of luck and i'm looking for one more person i don't know where he is right now because mr dtm is here there he is ben schneider he's actually uh hello bent good to see you here where's the camera here mr dtm because you were five times you can take off the mask five-time dtm champ and actually you hold the record here because i think you won here at the hockenheim 13 times so what's it like being back here yeah absolutely i'm really surprised when i hear this number 13 wins out of 43 i think in total um yeah this was always my home race so the expectation was high and i always thought okay we are good prepared but anyway 13 week 2 is a big number absolutely and this season is so super close i mean there are only 20 points difference between the four championship contenders so how how are you experiencing the dtm absolutely and if you still uh when it became a half-life through the the the thunderlind was leading by a big gap so but now in the end they are very close together again and that there you can see this championship works really well and i think we still have a few ways to go and everything is possible anything is possible but would you agree that the dtm hasn't been this exciting for a very long time absolutely and i i'm so happy to see so many brands on the grids and i think we will have some more next year and this makes uh will make dtm even more interesting for the future absolutely and we're psyched to have you here ben thank you so much pleasure being here and so happy to see the fans back on racetrack so i really did miss that yep and we did as well and we're so excited the atmosphere is fantastic and now are you ready for racing i'm ready to go and i'm really a little bit nervous right now me too all right so let's get started and here's your commentator thanks very much indeed yeah an absolute legend of touring car racing in particular the dtm five-time champion birch schneider it's very said here dominance at this uh circuit with 13 wins the next best is jamie green had six wins here at uh hockenheim so but still looking good still looking sharp great to have him on the grid and you've heard from some of our key championship contenders there max he got sixth on the grid and very interesting to hear that uh that revealing insight into the chat that he had with daniel hunkader they might have the same delivery on the car but they're not in the same team they are there with the same brand so danny hungary are saying look i want to get a good result for myself but if you if you're alongside me i'm not going to ruin your championship so interesting to hear that now here's a very talented and exciting young prospect for the future argentine who's been uh he had a bad weekend last time out at aston but generally he's been getting better and better as the season's gone on and he's had his second best qualifying session of the season so far here at hockenheim having topped one of the three practice sessions yesterday qualifying in fifth place danielle goddard fourth on the grid and that's one of his best qualifyings of the season after the heartbreak at aston where he oh so close came to a podium finish just a couple of minutes from the end of the race before atar let go and then we got our top three third place liam lawson they struggled a little bit with pace yesterday in free practice and it was all about audis and mercedes in free practice on friday but he's got that ferrari up there into third place a crucial championship point he's actually extended his championship lead over second place by one more point so 11 clear and then lucas our who he's in amongst all these championship contenders and the winner last time out at assen and of course as a result of that winning the race before you have to carry 25 kilograms of success ballast second last time out in the race at assen was liam lawson so he'll have 18 kilograms on board and marco bittman who is all the way back 13th on the grid really struggling with the car particularly yesterday not quite as bad today but still nowhere near where he wants to be marco vittman middle of the grid and with 15 kilograms of success ballast this is the driver though on pole position for the fourth time this season and he nailed it with the biggest advantage in qualifying that anybody has had so far this year over four tenths of a second clear coming at just the right time because the the car had been struggling particularly in qualifying trim over the last few weekends that red bull ring and alaska and his best grid was fifth place but he had a seventh a couple of eights and that was really putting him on the back foot but you know what he did he got points out of it he you know damage limitation was the key and now he's got a golden opportunity for another race victory the itr chairman gerhard berger many times will have driven at hockenheim on the old school version of the circuit as well which was six kilometers long where it used to go out into the forests and with these very high speed sections but it's still a great track hockey time high speed corners and uh slow speed turns and difficult challenging corners all mixed in it usually provides some really good racing the championship heading towards the climax let's find out how it all unfolds here at hockenheim the latest weekend of dtm brings us to hockenheim a small town to the west of germany only about 80 kilometers from the french border the town sits along the river ride central europe's second longest river and features some eye-catching architecture not least the neo-baroque style church built in 1909 as well as an art nouveau church which dates back to 1817. historically the town was built around the production of hops tobacco and even asparagus and even today almost half of the land in the area is still used for agriculture but just outside this quiet rural town lies a famous racetrack the hockenheim ring featuring the superfast parabolica challenging 90 degree corners with little margin for error and a hairpin that often attracts wheel-to-wheel combat this is our venue for the penultimate round of the season and this is how the team's championship is shaping up red bull af quarter on 280 points team at sports line second on 224 and mercedes amg team winward on 207 points in the races the best two drivers from each team at score points so you can score from a race a maximum of 43 championship points and that means it's still very much open even though there's a big advantage for af courser because after this race they'll still be 138 points available to the teams they've got a 56 point lead at the moment having won in terms of points scored at least uh the last four uh four of the last five races uh consecutively so hey of course we run of course liam lawson and also alex alban who still mathematically has a chance of the championship as does this man for now at least it's a long shot but still mathematically can win the championship let's see what they can do here today the drivers that may be on the fringe of the championship battle might still be uh wants to have a say in the eventual outcome so lucas our second on the grid because he started on pole position last time at at assen and that was what led him eventually to take what was a very convincing race victory so great to see the crowds here been for the last couple of rounds available to go in the paddock as well the back of the garages some of the garages have areas where you can look right into the garages and watch the teams at work uh dtm has always been about being fan friendly and getting the uh spectators involved as much as they can and it's great that we've got them back as there were plenty of south african flags here supporting the vandalinders kelvin on pole sheldon having to come from a little bit further back in his uh bmw and uh linda's mom and dad shawn and bernie are here this weekend they arrived uh this morning they're gonna stay for the norris ring as well and uh the commentary boxes for qualifying i'd shawn in the commentary box with me intently watching the monitors during that qualifying session former south african touring car champion himself twice a runner up in south african touring cars as well and with connections with bmw and he was watching as kelvin got that fastest lap which put him onto pole position a clenched fist as he watched the screen and bernie was in with uh eddie merkel who's the german language tv commentator for dtm so they're all set for a pretty stressful couple of weekends i suspect but it started in the very best sense for their elder son kelvin vanderlinder who's on pole position that grid now cleared and the run to turn one important something else worth mentioning is the amount of track limits warnings that were popping up on the screen yesterday all of them for turn one because there's a big wide runoff area there and if you go over it too often by keeping your foot in and beyond the limits of the circuit you're going to get warnings and if you ignore the warnings you're going to get penalties so that is something the drivers need to be aware of those track limits warnings were reduced in qualifying this morning but still very much something to bear in mind a minute to go then until the cars head off onto the formation at 55 minutes plus one lap should we get a safety car they can extend the race distance by upper two a maximum of two more laps if those laps are lost to a safety car but no more than that so maximum distance would be 55 minutes plus three laps it's the 13th round of the championship then chris hartley here to talk you through this first race of the weekend at hockenheim and there you can see the one minute 36.649 kelvin van der linde almost half a second clear of lucas hour in this morning's qualifying session liam lawson the championship leader daniel hunterdale on rogue two argent mining excellent job to get fifth place with maxi gotz for company on the third row of the grid as well also up there in the top ten seventh place for vance on avril nico muller having a much better qualifying than he's had of late and then ninth and tenth alex alvin and uh marvin dietz the former uh formula four champion of germany he's been uh lmp racing things like the lms and getting used to gt raising over the last few seasons still a very young driver but he's going to the top 10 marvin deans he's in the number 18 mercedes run by muka motorsports at replacing maximilian boot so he's a replacement driver which is worth noting because if he does finish in the points he will be able to score championship points he's not a guest driver guest drivers don't score points so if a guest driver whichever position they finish in everybody shuffles up one in terms of points which we had at aston last time out and the two guest drivers to take note of are the second time this season hubert houst in the number six hrt mercedes the team boss racing for the second time this season and lucas degrassi coming in for his first ever dtm race as the fourth of the average sports line audi's teammates amongst others to kelvin van der linde he's in the red yellow and green number 37 uh audi but starting towards the back of the field despite having had a pretty good free practice session yesterday i had a issue with the water pipe yesterday so i missed a lot of the first free practice session but those two drivers can't score championship points even if they get into the top ten which can affect the maths at the end of the weekend so that's the lineup for the race we've had 29 different drivers in the championship now including all the guest drivers so it's been a very very healthy first season of this new era of dtm and also worth noting that yes the top four drivers are the ones looking most likely to go for the championship although still mathematically not the only ones but also you have got four different manufacturers battling away as well with liam lawson driving a ferrari marco whitman at bmw kelvin vandalinder and audi and maximilian gots fourth in the championship a mercedes [Music] so the cars heading around the circuit it's uh pretty breeze free today it's as they get ready for the rolling start is 20 degrees so hottest it's been so far this weekend track temperature 30.7 it's just about perfect conditions for the action to get underway and the back end of the field now just getting on to the tail end of the group their abs sports line their man kelvin van der linde leading them around just coming into my view from the coventry box and see the final part of the lap so out of the moba one curve into turn 13 which caught a couple of drivers out yesterday in free practice into that gravel trap they ran wide shelton thunder linda was one argemini and then out of here this twisty turny sequence of corners at the end of the lap through 14 and 15 a little undulation in the surface and then through 16 and 17 the sud curver the final corner of the lap getting set then with kelvin van der linde on pole position ready for this first race of the weekend round 13 of the championship about to get underway and it's kelvin van der linde and lucas our on the front row ready for the rolling start red lights on they get towards the line lights go out and we go racing and it's a decent start for fun dolinda hours going with him liam lawson coming under attack from daniel he's going to go into third place running way out wide several drivers nico muller way way out wide at the rosberg audi but it's kelvin vanderlinder down into turn two that's going to hold the lead of the race from lucas our danny hunter there troll trying to get around the outside of him for a second get some good acceleration as they come through turns three and four starts under investigation we'll find out more about that bit of contact from behind with maxi gotz and liam lawson hunkader falls back archer mighty getting stuck here lawson gets the ferrari up to third archer mighty through parabolica is gonna go to fourth place then he's going to be gotts in fifth and hakadaya after a good start he's gonna be down in sixth or maybe worse when they get down to the hairpin for the first time archimonde down the inside tacks lucas hour sends him into a spin liam lawson has to go wide to avoid it all there's further contact behind how it gets going again but audrey might have afraid he's not going to be able to continue there's a lot of debris on the circuit coming out of the hairpin and drama already i'm afraid on this first half lap of the race and they see huge damage to archer's car that's going no further damage to the front left wheel others with problems as well further back but getting pole position means avoiding all of that as the safety car is deployed and that is what kelvin vandalinder has done thinking about a move there was the ferrari of alex alban uh but uh he had to back off the move on esteban knowing that the safety car was coming out well blimey incident that turned one under investigation of suspect the incident dead at the hairpin and turned six gonna come under investigation as well they yeah there you go on the screen as i say it so kelvin van der linde leading the race and that just proves how important qualifying is because you stay if you get a good start away from all of that drama which is only just behind him mighty going for the move and not quite pulling it off and it's been a dream start for maxi gots he's gone from sixth to second liam lawson despite everything has come out of this in third place it was smart wasn't it i think he saw what was coming up the inside and it just left room stayed out wide saw the incident coming and managed to get through it all so he's there in third place and phillip ellis has had a mega start as well fifth of the championship he's gone from 12th on the grid all the way up already to uh fourth position and philip is 67 points behind in the championship running in fifth place but uh as long as he stays within 84 points he can still do it to get a replay of the start 94 point still available in the championship after uh this race today right some of the replay from the helicopter van der linde and howard both made good starts here hunkader with a great start around the outside but both he and lucas always very wide maybe the rossberg audi of mueller getting a bit of contact there which sent him very very wide phillips came through it all and then charged around the outside then and turned two it was all okay but there was the contact with gotz who was almost in fact was sent into daniel hunkadaya zangadaya a victim of that and this is what triggered then our germaine to come through so parabolica he gets the inside of the two mercedes he's got the ferrari head he's already got himself up to fourth place he sees a big gap goes for it understandably up the inside of lawson but then can't slow the car down in time and into the side of lucas hour it was nothing to do with the incident really he was ahead of it and then all hell broke loose on the way out of the corner replay from a different angle and archer mighty halfway alongside lucas our he wasn't trying to get through but liam lawson's smart in all of that wasn't he just stayed way out wide okay you can't inside if you want i'm going to stay out here because i can see what's coming i think this is how it looked on board with sofia florsch carrying on the onboard cameras this weekend she was right behind lucas degrassi seemed to get off to a pretty good start and tucked to the outside line [Music] it's right behind here that house mercedes carry good speed out through turns three and four heading towards the parabolica and then let's see what happens from that point of view don't happen because everything concerting it up as a result of that that was lawson going way out wide to uh to get past it all our recovered as quickly as he could but no chance of going any further with damage to the front left suspension a lot of bodywork damage and that's why the safety car has been brought out so fanta linda leeds got second lawson third ellis 12th to fourth hunker day great start but he ends up in fifth uh marvin dietz has gone from 10th to sixth fatson abril is one of the few drivers that stayed where he started despite all of that he's seventh esteban moot has come up to eighth place in the first of the t3 motorsport lamborghinis so three places gained for him alex alban has stayed ninth timo glock he's having so far this year his worst season of nine years in dtm but he's gone up into the points for now he's gone from 15th to 10th and sophia floor she saw the onboard shot she's gone from 19th all the way up to 11th place having already picked up her first points finish of the season last time out two weeks ago at aston and a good start for dev gore as well because he's come from very last 21st up to 12th shelton fandolinder has made up some ground in 13th mike rockefeller had an engine misfire in qualifying this morning so he didn't get a competitive lapping until towards the end of the session and uh mike has made up ground to 14th place nico muller with that drama at turn one which is under investigation as uh 15th hubert 16th marco vittman has actually got back down to 17th place and there is lucas our carrying on but not with a completely healthy mercedes it has to be said city grasses 18th hawkey is 19th and hour is the last of the runners in 20th position with the safety car still out lights still on the top of the car as it uh heads out of the final turn so this now looks like it's going to become a 55 minute plus three lap race the pit window opens once the leader crosses the safety car line on lap five any time after that you can make your pit stop but we haven't got to that point as yet you can't go into the pits behind the safety car but it will not count as one of your mandatory pit stops so the team's watching i wonder if there's going to be some early starts at carnival 6 under investigation for a jump start which is hubert hout and as we know the incidents at turn one and i want to turn six both under investigation so kelvin van der linde the race leader looking to bag 25 points whatever happens if he wins the race he's going to cut the gap at the top of the championship table from 13 points down to a minimum of six that would be if liam lawson finished in second so if he wins the race he knows he's going to be at worst six points adrift of the championship leader and up to second place in the standings and it could be better still if liam wilson doesn't finish in second place [Music] so 86 points still available at the end of this race 56 points available at the end of the weekend so philly pellis is uh 67 points adrift now after qualifying fifth place he has to close the gap over the course of the weekend has to stay within 56 points to stay mathematically in with a shout out good to see argent money is okay afterwards a pretty heavy hit but unfortunately great qualifying pace does not turn into a successful race right they're all bunching up they're ready for the 2x2 restart because the safety car lights are out safety car is coming in on this lap they're heading towards the final stadium section now into turn 13 and it is going to be kelvin van der linde and alongside him for the restart which is almost like qualifying on the front row now given we're only just starting the race effectively he's maxi gotz and then liam lawson third so three of the top four in the championship are the top three in the race with marco whitman having dropped from 13th to 17th his weekend has not got going yet i'm afraid i'm doing a rain dance tonight praying for ray which is a possibility tomorrow but not definitely going to happen forecast keeps changing let's see then how we get this restart underway because kelvin van der linde leads them to the line and the out he goes the mercedes goes with him the ferrari just behind and then phillip ellis still trying to get around the outside as well thunder linda's in the lead and second place scots third and fourth side by side though philippe bell is making contact with liam lawson it's getting a bit rough and ready out there on the run down to turn two it's side by side for fifth just behind as well with danny under there trying to gain a place lawson holds off the attack of philly palace that brings daniel hunkadere and marvin dietz onto his tail everybody survives and comes through and lucas howe has gone into the pits so liam lawson riding on board with him now on the way through parabolica a bit of a gap back to the top two actually got shows his nose kevin vandalinder leading the way it's gonna be more action behind though all the way down the inside is tebow glock looking to gain positions which he does liam lawson goes out wide in that battle for third place philippe ellis still right behind him though in fourth and then the number eight mercedes the grapper and mercedes of daniel hunkadeya and with more ground gained then it's estevan moot who is up now into sixth place best result of the season so far for esteban is a fifth place finish at the nurburgring look at the action just behind her and out of the race i'm afraid for lucas out so that's it real frustration highs and lows of motorsport a win one weekend and then you're out of it straightaway the next and he was entirely blameless in all of that i would say because it wasn't even his battle but marvin dean's dropping down the order a little bit here but it's kelvin van der linde that still has his nose in front there's his younger brother sheldon he's got lucas degrassi former formula e champion trying to come around the outside of him which i think he's done all the way through turn 13. that's not side by side out of the window as they're going to turn 16 but the audi has gone through meanwhile top three come through with no change of position since we last saw them the one that's made the move is esteban moved up to sixth place now teemo glock up to seventh position coming through having good race pace and getting through the carnage using all of his experience so far marvin dinks down to eight hundred ninth that's on abram losing out on the restart down to tenth place and rocky up to eleventh just outside the points at the moment has got ahead of his teammate sophia florsch mullet's gained a bit of time and fitment too he's back to 14th place not where he wants to be but edging towards the top 10 and the points and a drive-through penalty for a jump start for hubert haute so he'll have a drive through penalty and still have to make a mandatory stop in the race as well and through the hairpin they go the race lead advantage was 0.6 seconds at the end of the previous lap through the first sector he's taken another three tenths away from maxi so throwing his lead here it's been on absolute fire so far this weekend kelvin van der linda there's a move timo glock about to lose a position to marvin deans possibly goes out wide marvin he's got his sideline for the next right-hand turn he's still got his nose in front though as timo glock they're still banging wheels as they make their way out of the turn now getting over so close to the wall marvin dietz has got the inside line he's just going to squeeze through i think teemo glock hanging on to it through turn 12 at mobile one kerber and brave stuff absolutely together and look alex holden coming into the mix now as well in the alpha terry hey of course a run ferrari trying to get alongside for the inside line eventually for turn 16. great opportunity driving for the f1 development driver and we've got cars now heading into the pits and one of them is maxi gots from second place and liam lawson and philly palace so second third and fourth all coming to the pits earliest opportunity to do so so calfine van der linde's got a big lead for now 3.7 seconds clear of daniel hunkadeya who will move up to second estimate will move up to third race between the pit crews they of course get liam lawson away well maxie gots just in front so they stay as they were the cars that were second third and fourth come out in the same order so virtual leader for now there's maxi yachts the first of the pit stoppers liam lawson right behind him you're on board with phillip ellis he's about a second or so a drift of them as they rejoin and head down in towards turn two alex albans gained another place look he's moved ahead of teemo glock you've got vance on abril in the yellow mercedes trying to come through as well and watch at the back of that group side by side the two audi's here the rossberg red and silver of number 51 nico muller trying to get alongside mike rockenfeller taking the slingshot around the outside down the inside for the next corner and through he goes so lovely move that for nico muller who's just about enough of all the bad luck he's been suffering of late the race leader mars clear has come back into my view through mobile one cover i need to turn 13 as marvin continues to breathe down the neck all the way into turn 12 over one curve of that man teemo glock had a spin there yesterday in free practice still trying to get down the inside at turn 13 there's almost contact and there we go into the pits then for the race leader kelvin vandalinder comes in there's no stress this weekend because last weekend he left the pit stop late safety car came out ruined his advantage in race one he's not gonna risk that again understandably so so yesterday uh in the uh free practice [Music] comes in alex alvin as well maybe shadowing the moves of kelvin van der linde maxi gotz comes past over the start finish line and he's still going to lead the rays here kelvin van der linda but they'll get much closer to him because he's still going to get his tires up to temperature but he's got it he's the leader virtually the first of the pit stoppers maxi got second liam lawson third phillip ellis fourth as you were much closer to them i would suspect he's gonna be vance on abroad looks like hrt had a good pit stop so the quickest practice pit stop pit stop time yesterday six and a half seconds for maxi gotz which was an excellent stop and that led to a 28 second time from in to out six and a half second stationary so you're looking that's a really good one around about 30 seconds in and out would be a good time right a replay of the start it was a frenetic start to the race and let's hear more about it from down in the pit lane with marina and i'm here with lucas our lucas you were in p4 was looking really good and then so much bad luck how would you describe the situation yeah so i was in b2 actually fighting with kelvin but to be honest i have to see the replay but one guy got pretty mad i think because i was in the middle of the corner and it was actually quite a heart hit so it was completely crazy so in other words there was nothing you could do to prevent right no no i think the other driver could do a lot for it all right thank you very much thanks very much yeah very disappointed lucas our as you can imagine we've got danielle hungadaya coming into the pits now as well more replays so that was a tag mid corner at the start of this frenetic race this is the battle has been going on for a couple of laps between marvin dietz the 2015 adac german formula four champion and teemo glock and so in daniel under their sofia floor schubert house is in but is this the drive-through penalty rather than the mandatory stop and they go out with vandaling already through got through and he's daniel hunter they're going to hold off liam lawson for a next third here liam's got to get around the outside of him puts the ferrari around the outside at turn two and gains the place but danielle gadaya has settled into effectively fourth place has gained one back ahead of this man philip ellis the german-born swiss racer who's homing in now as they head flat out through the parabolic up to a top speed of 270 kilometers as an hour down to the slowest part of the course on the brakes and you can see anger there just hogging the inside line here knowing he's on the back foot until his michelin tires get up to temperature out of the corner he gets a good run philippe ellis is underneath his rear wing there as they go nose to tail in the battle for a next fourth place you've been helped his behind because another pit stop to do he's had his drive through but he hasn't yet had his mandatory stop as philip ellis finds half a gap here goes down the inside and he's just on the back foot here for the next quarter though which is a right-hander so has to settle back in behind so keeping him at bait for now is daniel hunker there but it's really hard work philly palace is still going for this he knows he's got to catch up in terms of the championship they come through turn 12 at moba one curve still a hog in the inside line here who's daniel hunkadeya philippe is no way through here really his best bet now is going to be together a good run coming out of the final turn over the start finish line def gore is coming to the pit lane in front of the commentary box from inside the top ten so they're all going to move up one place now in this battle kelvin van der linde will move up to ninth place overall but he's the leading pit stopper he's uh a net first and by some distance as well because he's 1.6 seconds clear of maxi gots which is a bigger gap than he had certainly when he came out of the pit so he started to edge back away esteban moot is the race leader for now though still to make his pit stop of course alex albans second [Music] and then teemo glock there with nico muller for company and mike rockefeller not far behind either it's just three very experienced dcm racers here all running within a second or so of each other and then marco whitman just in the background you can see in the white and green vulcan horse bmw number 11. that's the driver's second in the championship but in great danger of losing second place in the championship to calvin founder linda today i mean had to come from 13th and then being demoted to 17th on the first lap of the race before the safety car came out but for now marco is sixth place well of course he has uh still got to make the pit stop sheldon vanderlinder seventh lucas degrassi eighth all of them yet to come in oh spinning back around onto the track nico muller so that's rather well doesn't ruin the race necessarily but it's cost him a good five or six seconds i would say getting the car gathered back up here's a replay had to go or tried to go for the move and tags the left rear corner of teemo glock's bmw as bmw's a big heavy cars he's bounced off him sent into an oversteer spin and onto the grass he went so more frustrations this year for the last two years he's been the championship runner-up but it's been a very difficult first season of gt carp racing for nico muller team ross bergman now will have a lot of work to do to get himself even into the points but hopefully not too much damage to the car it's the one positive thing and i wonder if that might not affect his pit stop strategy that incident under investigation that turned 13 incident as well between glock and muller one will say well i was in front and the other will say yeah but the door was open and i was alongside you it was my line [Music] my checks off one audi gets another for company because mike rockenfeller has picked up the position now so battling for third on the track but uh these are drivers yet to make their mandatory pit stop we're still 34 minutes and change remaining and it's plus three laps now the race all right t3 motorsport getting ready possibly for the race leader esteban mute or for sb hawkey who's in 18th place at the moment looks like esteban is staying at for now so he leads the way alex alban in second place 1.8 seconds behind [Music] miss me hulk has made her picks up wasn't she sorry it was uh her in the background of all the shots we saw so it will be esteban boots but he's not coming yet so i would say next lap the race leader is going to come in alex alban's second semoglock third but 8.2 seconds of drift so bearing in mind you need at least 28 seconds advantage to get a pit stop done esteban moot at the moment is 20.9 seconds ahead of kelvin van der linde so if there's a really good pit stop in and out station in time that'd still be 30 seconds probably and that would put him about eight seconds behind the leader so still within the points rest of unmoved because that's that was his best lap though his ties are not yet going off as rocky goes down the inside squeezes it under the brakes to get ahead of timo glock and snatches for now third place marco whitman in the background with sheldon vanderlinder and 12th time formula e race winner lucas degrassi for company rocky was being held up well he's got great race pace here mike rocking fella problem with the car in qualifying but scott through the carnage and he's looking good he's never won here might rock and fella he's got plenty of second place finishes two in 2019 2014 2017 2018 runner-up all the time on the podium on three other occasions as well he's still looking for his first win at hockenheim likes the place and you can see why down the inside of timo glock is also a fan of the harkening circuit and through he went his job really over these next two weekends is as much as he can to help his teammate kelvin van der linde uh esteban does now come in and alex alvin shadows him in so the top two come in lamborghini and ferrari one and a half seconds between them pit crews ready and that means i might rock and fella who started the lap fourth he's gonna move up to first place now still to make his stop all right alex alvin away okay of course we had a good stop is he gonna jump in position yes he is he's gonna get through ahead of esteban and by some distance it wasn't a terrible stop for t3 motorsport 8.3 seconds anything around 780 is good anything under seven is exceptional and axolotl has come out in front the vats on abroad that's all is just gonna stay in front of esteban moot he's also gonna get those tyres up to temperature as well so alex album with a good stop there that puts him just behind vancouver abroad so in around 14th place once they come through the next checkpoint lots of cars ahead of them still to make their [Music] including my rock and fella team o'clock and marco vitte middle with the top three for now sheldon founder linda will move up to fourth lucas de gracie to fifth from near the back of the grid sixth for muller and seventh for the first of the drivers that has made a pit stop which is this man kelvin van der linde on board with him now his first time at hockenheim in dtm they'll know the circuit from his days as an adac gt masters champion title which he last went in 2018 and first one in 2014 he has looked pretty untouchable since that second free practice session yesterday was the only driver into the 137s and old tires yesterday and it was the only driver into the 136s app did come here a few days ago for a test they've brought three cars lucas degrassi quite a rocking fella and kelvin van der linde so they've been putting in the work behind the scenes which has clearly paid off so far on board with liam lawson remember success ballast on the car after his podium finished last time out at assen five consecutive top threes in qualifying and he's proven that he can be competitive and win races with ballast on the car as well maxie got ahead of him a championship rival but not yet not yet his main rival in the points but again he keeps on chipping away getting the points as he said on the grids only one race this year that he hasn't finished only one race in which max scots has not scored a championship point all championship points bit wide on the way through the hairpin though there and that means the ferrari will get a little bit closer to him there's your next leader number three kelvin van der linde as we go into the final half hour of the race plus three laps rocking fella he's only 10.8 seconds clear of his teammate what will the tactic be here well he hasn't got to try and hold everybody else up like he did at assen when kelvin was trying to break clear when that safety car came out in race one in the netherlands so to a point he could run his own race for now there's alexa when he's begun to pull away now in 12th place from fatson aberlin 13th [Music] so fundal into the leading net pit stopper got second lawson third good annette fourth ellison at fifth album the next sixth avril seventh and moot in eight that's the first of the pit stoppers and they should all still be able to stay ahead of rockefeller glock whitman and sheldon van der linde [Music] certainly have lucas degrassi and nico muller as well so they'll all be the points kelvin van der linde on to the tail of nico murray for position one has made the pit stop one hasn't you can see the gap coming down all the time from 2.7 seconds on lap 12. it's now been well slashed down to seven tenths of a second so fandom in a good space here his last lap time was 139.7 but the best lap of the race has just gone to alex albert in 12th place with a 139-0 so alex flying in the ferrari see if he can get into the fight and join his teammate and help him out a little bit there he's just in the background so through the hairpin at smith scout goes liam lawson just coming out of the hairpin in the background in a moment will be alex alban so he's putting some good lap times in here currently kelvin van der linde in terms of his gap back to max scott's that has grown to two and a half seconds now and he will not want to get stuck behind nico muller for too long and also that gap from gotz to lawson is pretty minimal isn't it see that for yourselves just seven tenths of a second 46 twos for both of them through the middle sector and at the start of the lap there are even stevens as well just about a tenth between them so far so mueller now with kelvin van der linde right behind him as they come through coming out of turn 17 at sud kerber heading over the start finish line and he's not close enough to attack yet but it's turned two really where he's going to be thinking about it and definitely down at the hairpin that spits care up not being held up just yet marco whitman be careful you've got a track limits warning black and white flag going to marco bittman who's second in the race and there we've got the pit stop for teemo glock for over racing hubert habs coming in for the second time this time for his mandatory stop after the earlier drive through and then the only two of the pit lane on this lap right kelvin van der linde through parabolica closing in on nico muller the door is left to john nico doesn't fight it too hard she has great respect and through comes fandom linda and she'll have too much trouble passing the next car because that is his teammate lucas team one of his teammates for the weekend lucas degrassi there in the 37 audi so at white there is philly palace coming under attack from alex alban and the second of the ferraris so that could be a changing position as well for 11th overall but for crucial championship points certainly from philip ellis's point of view alex album what's the points as well he could still win the title mathematically in the background we'll see i reckon the ferrari will come out first yes it will so alex albert number 23 gets ahead of the 57 machine down at the hairpin we're on the exit to the hairpin effectively and philly palace drops the place and then you've got vats and avril being reeled in by esteban moot he's never shy coming forward is he if an opportunity arises he'll go for it back slovo esteban the belgian driver second youngest driver on the grid wrestling the car over the curbs and bouncing and hopping halfway across the track earlier on one thing you can never question is that about moot's commitment it's there in abundance so he comes through turn 17 sudden curve up out back across the start finish line esteban moved still trying to get on terms with vance on abroad having a good weekend here so far it's been competitive in all of the sessions just lost those few places on the restart lap quite a few drivers apart from mark a bitman have got warnings as well for track limits and one of them is at turn one kelvin van der linde so another one that has to be a little bit careful right esteban lining up a move here on the run down towards smith's care of the hairpin fansite abroad knows exactly what he's coming so he's going to try and position his mercedes right in the middle of the racetrack in fairness he leaves the door a jar that's all the invitation esteban he just about slows the lamborghini down in time gets on the gas and gets the job done well that's not really he didn't over defend there i wonder if he's sensibly thinking you know what the lamborghini's a bit quicker than me at the moment we're gonna hold each other up if we battle maybe i'll just let him through follow him and see what happens it might be a smart move that he certainly didn't fight the corner too hard so esteban gains the place and puts him up to 12th position overall and up to a net seventh here's a replay swung to the outside got into the breaking zone i thought there's a gap i'll go for it then and got this car slowed down went a bit wide of course and this was when phillip ellis lost the position to alex alban just went wide coming out of spit scarer and into the 107 the positions changed [Music] [Music] team ready with philip ellis kelvin thunder linda has already had a lucas degrassi is about to be passed by niko muller i think in the background so kelvin is now onto the tail of guess who somebody with the same surname sheldon van der linde not racing the same team or the same brand but they are brothers stan the inside goes kelvin sheldon knows he's trying to win a championship and through he goes at the hairpin now onto the tail of marco vittman now marco's got to wave him through this is for position he knows he's got a whole pit stop disadvantage side by side just behind us lucas degrassi about to lose further places and kelping van der linde trying to get out the inside of the bmw oh marco's not going to make this easy in the background maxi gotz has got ahead of lucas degrassi as well here comes kelvin van der linde there the door opens up he gets alongside the bmw the audi is the quicker of the two kelp and van der linde should be through as they come through turn 12 is through and makes it stick so there's a couple of hold your breath moments there but at the end of the day fitment was fair thunder had the line and through he came so that now he's gone from fourth to second on that lap only might rock and fell in front of him his teammate and mike's still gonna make his pit stop and he's got a beautiful clear track in front of him now exactly what he wanted to see with 22 minutes and 18 seconds remaining having cleared the bmw and now try and pull away from it i think he will do that very quickly indeed so down to 19 runners mike rockenfeller not for the first time of lakes looks like he's gonna run very long on the tyres last lap one minute 40.5 best lap one minute 40.2 so the face is still good for rocky if he had a good pit stop stop for about eight seconds in and out time should be about 30 seconds at the moment that would put him somewhere behind marvin in around 14th place uh sheldon van der linde fourth position down the inside of the volcano's bmw marco whitman gets the job done but marco coming back at him on the way out of the corner on the run up towards the right hand right turns seven tucks back in behind though and sheldon's got the job done the 21 year old ahead liam lawson ahead of lucas de gracia as well so that's gonna put him up to seventh place degrassi still gonna make his pit stop degrassi going backwards now because alex alvin keen to help out his team mate has joined him now both of the ferraris get ahead of the audi apt would have quite liked kelvin federer linda would have quite liked that audi to hold the ferraris up a little bit longer it's got daniel hungada to cope with that now as well and the grouper m mercedes just behind and they're phillip ellis struggling a little bit i think it's been caught by esteban moot rocking fella leads but you're a real race leader it's kelvin vandalinda the first of the pit stoppers [Music] still got shelton vandalinder nico muller in the mix that have yet to make their pit stops you're on board with max scots he crosses the line in sixth place onto the tail of nico muller he's got muller and sheldon vanderlinder and rocky ahead of him we've all got to make their pit stops so the two cars directly in front of matt scott's he knows he's not really fighting against but he wants to get past the because look in the mirrors he's got the championship leader looming large in the ferrari bringing his teammate with him alex alvin is flying at the moment he's going to play the team game was going to try and go for a podium finish danielle goddard could do with clearing lucas degrassi on the way into the hairpin as side by side at the front it is nico muller down the inside of marco whitman and i'm gonna just about get through second bye to the cherry tried the move thought i'm too far back started to back out off out of it but lucas degrassi kept out of the way i think perhaps conscious of the fact that he's also a guest driver this weekend not wanting to set anybody's championship hopes necessarily that's matt scott's now onto the tail of marco whitman so for now it's second versus fourth in the championship matt scott's wanting desperately to get through you can see those ferraris coming the first of which he's now alex albano because he's got a head of liam lawson i think he's probably waved him through because alex is absolutely flying at this stage of the race lucky to take as many points away from his championship rivals as he can on behalf of liam lawson this is the view on board with max scott's there the bavarian here comes alex albert who's been one of the best overtakers this season he nudges down the inside throws the ferrari through bit of contact and on the way through the final corner he makes it stick maxi gots muscle down a position here and with liam lawson back on his tail so alex has taken points away from liam but he's also taken points away from max there's no holding him back at the moment the tie driver he's on a mission here next up marco vittman he's not really going to take points away from marco because marco is not really involved in the points fight he was the move then already damaged to the front of matt scott's mercedes no damage to the side of it after the ferrari just muscled him out of the way that's my lie you want to stay alongside me you're going off the track he says he's controlled aggression wasn't it as alex alban now goes down the inside and marco vic but all the way into turn six gets the job done and liam lawson getting good traction coming out of the corner onto the tail of maxi gots now as head up towards turn seven he shouldn't be able to find a way through there though it's too tight especially on the exit so to turn eight there we'll go not really away through here either so i have to sit tight for the time being but liam lawson is uh getting very close now but he's got to weigh this up do i need to risk a move and risk damage to the car or do i go for the points yes i might be losing a place and some points to max scott's but he's not my nearest rival he's fourth in the points however you can't go on the back foot too much because he's got daniel under there behind him he's a bit quicker at the moment there we go matt scott oh i thought he's going to get down the inside then it quite happened on the way through turn 13. no chance on the way through 15 16 or 17 so i'll probably have to wait until they have been there to get through but being held up here by marco whitman no doubt about it might rock and fellow leads but he's got to make a pit stop kelvin vanderlinder is second he's the net leader the virtual leader if you will shelton vanderlinder's brother is third but he's still gonna make a pit stop nico muller is fourth still has to make a pit stop alex alvin is in fifth place which is now a net second marco whitman in sixth place holding up maxi gots he's still gonna make a pit stop max scott's his third net third and this man liam lawson is net fourth with daniel hunker there a net fifth just behind so it's for the final podium position as alex alvarez now just swings down the inside of nico muller at turn six and down the inside of the bmw of marco whitman goes max scott's liam awesome follows him through very smart move that from liam who's now free for the next week or so to concentrate on dtm he's not gonna be back in formula two until the next round final two rounds not happening to december and daniel cadet on the inside of marco vittman now as well marco really struggling with the bmw i mean that's such a good run of late to get himself up to second in the championship damage limitation today and he'll be praying for rain i suspect for tomorrow's race so liam lawson smart better driving there the opening all his bad luck came last weekend at sochi in formula two his worst weekend today it's been a winner he's been on the podium he's been on pole position in formula two in his first season and an excellent eighth of the championship in the single seaters the kiwi driver youngest in the field of dtm dtm winner first new zealander to win in dtm can you become the youngest dtm champion let's see over the next eight days we'll find out [Applause] might have something to say about that though as mike rockenfeller your race leader on the road still be out of the points if you added 30 seconds onto his time now which is about what it's going to take that to come in and out of the pits so effectively once it all settles down 25 points are on the way to kelvin van der linde alex alvin is on for 18 points for second place he's going side by side with sheldon fadolinder there that's for track position but he's already a net second because sheldon's going to go into the pits he's got the job done though really driving very quickly here from 9th on the grid isn't he philly bally's down the inside of marco vip modesto badmouth trying to get stuck in as well in the 2-3 motorsport lamborghini ellis is going to get to turn seven first the bmw of whitman still holding off just about for now though he still has to make his pit stop a warning for sophia floresch and esteban gets the job done at the next corner so liam lawson is the next fourth at the moment that would give him 12 points marco whitman currently he's not going to score any points once he's made his pit stop he's going to i think come out of this uh way out of the top 10 and then you've got max scots who is holding on to a next third of the moment and 15 points so if it stays like this by my maths liam lawson and kelvin van der linde would both be on 188 points exactly the same score because 25 points to come in the way of kelvin 12 points which stays likely to come in the way of liam for fourth that's a 13 point difference and he's 13 behind so he'll be dead level with three races to go as into the pits comes marco vittman there he is and straight to the garage so out of the race for marco vittman and a rare sight that marco retiring from the race and out of the points as well well that's a real shame for marcos just been a hugely frustrating weekend of the car just hasn't got the pace so no points and he's gonna lose almost certainly now second place in the championship standings and he lose third place as well yes he will he'll lose third place as well so as it stands if vandalinda wins second place goes to album third place goes to gotz and fourth place goes to lawson and that's still under question but if it happens like that 188 points each for lawson and van der linde 170 for goats who move up to third 165. marco bittman as esteban moot is on a good run of form here at the lamborghini trying to move on philly palace trying to get through there's confirmation on the screen my math was right for once so i'll be dead level on points lawson and van der linde [Music] but van der linde is going to pick up potentially his fourth win of the season here it couldn't have come at a better time esther bad mood is trying everything to get the lamborghini ahead they've had three wins each so far this will be the fourth defender linda on cat-back of wins even on the same points vanderlinder would effectively be the championship leader flashing the headlights then is maxi gots lighting up the tires he's mike rockenfellow who comes in to make his late pit stop now so back out he goes to see if he can uh rescue a point or two from this race sure but he's gotta give himself a chance to use those fresh tyres now try and charge through the 2013 champion so there he joins and calvin van der linde moves up to the overall lead of the race now alex alban second nico muller has gone ahead of sheldon van der linde so they're third and fourth but still to make their pit stops max scots is really the driver in third place they're all bunched up though aren't they as he come out through the hairpin and mr bamboo was trying to move but didn't quite get close enough and look at this now for effectively the final spot on the podium liam lawson is he going to take the risk here for three more championship points well if you weigh it up it's going to be a risk whatever he does but if he feels he's quicker he'll also feel he won't want to get held up by gotz with other cars like daniel goodell looming large in the mirrors particularly on gadaya actually so look at this nose to tail as they come through but if he does get through it's 15 points and it's retaining the championship lead from kelvin van der linde rather than tying for points with him because he also takes points away from max scott's who's in front of them sheldon van der linde although he danced for the pits very late core but he goes in now he's one of the last to pits nico muller stays out for now trying to recover from that earlier spin of course trying to get some points out of this what about the gap from first to second i guess the uh conversation at af course went something like liam alex is much quicker let him through i know he's going to take some points away from you but he might just be able to catch kelvin van der linde and take those 25 points away from him this does not look like a routine pit stop i'm afraid and the bad luck continues for all sheldon van der linde every time he gets in a decent position something seems to go wrong at the moment the 21 year old has just not been his season character building it was the expression that his bomb birdie used when i spoke to her earlier on well it's not the prettiest mercedes anymore but max scott's his car is still working and then he gets a bit wide and comfortable liam lawson gets close to him on the way out of the turn just about got the power down in time to max he gots as we go to the final 10 minutes of the race which is now a 55-minute plus three-lap race what's the gap from first to second 5.7 seconds two tenths quicker on the first sector with alex alvin so he's going for a race win and b to take the points away from kelvin vandalinder we'll rob him with seven points if he can find a way through so kelvin has got to stay on it here he should be okay with 5.7 seconds lead and nine minutes plus three laps to go but he can't afford to relax too much more just a little bit further away on the exit to turn 13 from max scott's this time there's the gap you can see for yourself so vanderlinder goes through the line now goes alban at 140.4 for van der linde a 140.1 for alban so he's taking three tenths out of him but that's nowhere near he needs to take half a second or so away from him if he's going to catch him before the end of the race right we'll take a break from the track action to go back to verina in the pit lane and i'm here with marco wittmann who's clearly devastated marco yet all the chances in the championship everything was going so well what happened then why did he retire well first of all we were involved in the crash at turn six where i was kind of in the sandwich and couldn't avoid the merc who was actually spun around and so we had already there quite a lot of damage then at the restart there was again this brakes throttle testing and then uh there was again like a big big shunt um and then obviously the car was heavily damaged we obviously tried to to somehow um continue in the race but at the end you know we didn't had a pace with the big damages we lost brake performance as well so at the end yeah we we kind of decided it makes no sense um it's better maybe to retire the car kind of safe tires for tomorrow but obviously a hard day as we also were lacking quite a lot of pace already in quality so yeah not the best days all right thank you very much marco thank you back to you understandably very disappointed marco whitman all the consequence really of being in that melee at the start of the race which was a consequence of being in not a very quick car in qualifying because we see somebody else with bad luck continuing on nico muller oh dear what's he going to do this year to get a result mana out of the race and into retirement no more points for nico again today so he's out of the equation for a points finish incidentally uh another retiree course that we heard from earlier on was lucas our and the fact that he has not going to pick up any points in this race and the way the points are working out for lawson and vander linde mean that at this stage of the race he's going to be 90 points adrift and there are only 84 points still available at the end of this one so that retirement looks like it's going to put mathematically lucas hour out of the equation and we'll be down to six potential winners of the championship were three races to go alex alban is going to move ahead of philip ellison into fifth place in the championship in second place he's got the gap down a bit more but only to 5.3 seconds so kelvin vanderlinder is controlling it liam lawson still with the decision to make here there's an opportunity he's going to take it but he's not going to take a big risk i don't think philippe ellis just about hanging on to sixth place at the moment from esteban moot so it's kelvin van der linden in the lead alex alvin second max scott's third liam lawson fourth academy of fifa full t6 he will dive in fry the brakes are packed completely fine [Music] apologies for the uh descriptive uh language you might picked up on there from maxi gots i think what he was saying was the breaks aren't working very well uh but in fewer words and syllables and where do you need good breaks around here that's right turn six the hairpin and where is liam lawson most likely to have a go yep that corner i'm doing a fine job for keeping him at bay now but liam lawson at the end of the lap falls away to start in the middle of the lap where the ferrari closes up to the mercedes five minutes 23 seconds to go back go past the commentary box to go over the start finish line esteban moved sixth place now ahead of philip ellis on that lap so let's drop him back a position esteban being released and only eight tenths of a second behind daniel hunkadeya so looking for his equal best result of the season so far having got a fifth and a sixth so far this year esteban moots the t3 motorsport mercedes lamborghini the lamborghini having been in the hands of his teammate last time added aston mercur bought a lotte a car that finished for the first time in dtm history on the podium first podium for t3 motorsport in their first season and the first ever lamborghini on a dtm podium right through the happen they go he goes way out wide again maxi gots confirmation nothing's changed since we last updated you on the point so tide level lawson and vandaling if you tight at the end of a championship season it's who's got the most wins if that's tied it's the most seconds if that's tied the most thirds so it might even come down to that at the end of this super tight season 188 points a piece of those two victories at the red ball ring one at the very start of the season at monza three wins for him but kelvin van der linde a win at monza a win at zolder a win at the nurburgring and maybe a win here today would be four to be tied on points but edging it on catback of race wins would be kelvin van der linde as luck we've got esteban moot closing right up to the tail of daniel hungary now this is for fifth place this battle race lead has gone through all under control for kelvin van der linde even though the gap is being reduced it's not being reduced anywhere near as quickly as you need to see by alex alvin it's going to brave effortless from knights on the grid and a fine drive again from alex absolutely mega since he came into the pits hasn't he running out wide liam lawson in the background esteban moot two pink mercedes trying to fend off two italian supercars here walla ferrari won a lamborghini max scott's has got to dig his heels in here though got to keep lawson behind him yes he's losing out to kelvin vandalinder but he's effectively closing up to the championship leader here by three points max scott so he has to keep the car ahead damage to the front door not liam lawson gets very very close and estimate goes down the inside of daniel and gains the position on the same time he's almost synchronized overtaking but lawson just backed out of it in the end they must be very close to the back of matt scott's mercedes mook though was able to get through on academia so he's up to fifth now and now i'd be getting slightly stressed out if i was liam lawson i saw what was coming in the mirrors because you've got somebody here liam lawson versus esteban that could be quite a battle as we got side by side of the first time in this race timo glock and marvin deans they're fighting over 11th place clock is there for now runs out wide though and marvin deeds oh just trying to go around the outside no muscling him out of the way he's teemo glock holding on to the police good little battle that was severe flaws just behind as well having a good run here in 13th position esme hawkey about 5.8 seconds down the road in 14th hubert out 15th devgor 16th the last of the runners just under two minutes to go the gap four point eight seconds still 139 threes four uh 139 three dead for kelvin van der linde at 139.082 for alex alban incident that you just seen between um marvin deinst and timo glock under investigation they're gonna look at it got lots to look at in this race haven't they there's the number 23 ferrari of alex albert in second place there's a huge gap back but there's not much gap between the next two max scots under real pressure now from liam lawson he's having to hug the inside line he said the brakes have gone this is where he needs the brakes is the ferrari going to be able to get through on the exit to the corner max scott gets on the throttle goes up through the gears but he's got his foot in the door here liam lawson right hand to coming up at turn seven this is for the final place of the podium and three more championship points and liam lawson has gone through through into third place just over a minute left on the clock plus three laps and the ferrari after knocking on the door for five or six laps has come through and that was his smartest move that to get him out of the corner rather than into the corner less risk involved he could see that max lap after lap have been struggling to get the power down having struggled to get the car slowed down and i think the fact that esteban mute was coming in the mirrors probably spurred him on even further so three more championship points and that now swings it back to liam lawson getting 15 points and maintaining the lead of the championship max scott's down to 12 points so now it would be 191 points for liam lawson 188 for kelp in van der linde 167 for max scott's 165 for marco whitman so with that move not only is he guaranteed silverware he's also guaranteed he just about holds the championship lead and every point counts yeah yes i know then try to stay in front the lumber behind you as a penalty the lumber behind you as a penalty so if you're five seconds uh behind him it's still okay okay he's going through the penalty uh for esteban route with the lamborghini keeping behind you gets all the screws me hawk he's got a five-second penalty for a pit stop infringement and so too her teammate esteban moved so they both got five second penalties side by side further back and down the inside getting involved now is mike rockenfeller up the inside of danielle he's on fresher times and everybody else he's up to sixth place now he's got a job to do if you can really get on with it and he's really gonna have to get on with it he could take some championship points away from max scott's is really on the back foot here having a bit of a stressful race he's really got a sunny demeanor normally max scott spar suspect he's not all smiles at the moment in that car he's really having to battle just to keep it where it is and he's got them cued up behind him and it's going to be very hard to keep mike rockefeller behind in the number nine audi with those much much fresher michelin tires on timer's run out so the 55 minutes is up the three added on laps now to count in the race 55 minutes plus three laps after the safety card kelvin van der linde has gone through so three laps to go for kelvin vandalinder to hold on to the lead rockefeller coming out i've turned 16 into 17 that sudden gets alongside esteban moot he's got a better grip better traction he's got the inside line and he's going to get through all the way into turn one and look at danny hunter there trying to follow him through as well mike rockefeller's got there esteban closes the door to stop the spaniard coming through but does run out wide on the exit to turn one at nord cover and it is mike rockefeller up now into fifth place now max scott's ahead of him max scots who if it stays like this could be third in the championship but not third of the championship if he loses another place to mike rockefeller mike rockenfeller could take valuable points away from one of his teammates big rivals of the championship here if you catch and pass him and he's got a chance with those new tires on also be thinking about the car in front it's a long shot but he'll also be thinking get past max and get past liam maybe time is running out but that's the plan so kelvin van der linde could could yet lead the championship if mike rockenfeller can get past those two cars ahead of him in the closing laps of the race daniel and kadeya now behind esteban moot trying to find a way through keeping an eye on the mirrors as well with philip ellis closing back in in the mercedes sixth seventh and eighth they are battling over rocky has gone though hasn't he how much quicker he is on those new tyres 4.3 seconds the advantage for kelvin van der linde as he rounds the final turn crosses the line two laps to go alex album putting the pressure on but running out of time 4.1 seconds the gap comes down too liam lawson will want very much matt scott's to get into a fight here with mike rockenfellow so it's a clean run to third place here [Applause] [Music] and those valuable 15 points be a fifth consecutive podium finish for liam lawson if he could nail this two wins at the red ball ring two seconds uh well sorry second and a third at aston but points for second because of the guest driver situation with marco bortolotti right max scott's mirror's full again and this time with mike rock and fella he's got fresher tires got a quicker car at this stage of the race breathing down his neck and almost pushing him down towards spitz carrier he's got no choice but to go on the inside line here max scott so swinging around the outside to try and cut back on the inside and get better traction out of the corner we might rock and fella that's exactly what he's doing now as he goes side by side on the run up towards turn seven he's done it he's nailed it mike rockefeller is through so that puts him up to fourth it puts max got down into fifth place now and so instead of getting 12 points he's going to get 10. and that means he's going to be led dead level now rather than a head off marco bittman they're going to be 165 points each but whitman's got more wins so he'll just about hold on to what would be third in the championship still dropping away though of course that's second place kelvin van der linde on course for 25 points this is what it looked like everyone matt scott i know but you have to fight for your championship now to keep my new position and break inside engineer trying to keep max carve come on i know it's not working but you just got to dig in here just get what you can out of it but he's on the back foot that's for sure there you go confirmation that if it stays like this liam lawson is going to hold on to the championship lead by three points after that move on maxi gots but look last lap of the race mike rockenfeller is almost with him and if mike rocking fella gets past him he's still getting 15 points he's going to get 12. back to the situation where van der linde and lawson are dead level on points with three races to go mike rockefeller's got to do a job for the team here his big chats he's going to come at the next corner at the hairpin liam lawson knows exactly what he's coming from the audi driver the 2013 champion will try and repeat the move that he pulled off one lap ago and max scots to the outside but he has to stop the car to cut back to the inside liam lawson kept him in the middle of the road he's gonna have to fight for his life here though because the audi is almost alongside him he is alongside him he's on the inside rocky is going to go for the move but lawson holds on to the position left lander coming up and liam lawson holds on to the place but then runs wide and mike rockefeller eventually gets through him and takes away with half a lap to go third place and three championship points and that is perfect news for his teammate kelvin van der linde who's coming into the last couple of corners now and of course to move from third to first in the championship he's about to pick up his fourth win of the season dtm 2021 continues to surprise and delight a win for kelvin van der linde second for alex alban yes kevin yes what a race keep up you guys that was cool you did a great job you did a great job p1 fantastic rocky overtook lawson so lawson is p4 now rock is p3 let's make a job man well done save fuel and tires please really good really good well how about that kelvin van der linde yeah he's off to buy mark rockenfeller a drink of his choice at the bar tonight he's done a massive favor there by stealing those two positions in the closing stages and getting past liam lawson with half a lap to go lawson really fought hard to hang on to the plays but with the fresh tars on that was a brilliant strategy by abz sportsline they absolutely got that right and mike rockenfeller from a lowly grid position he's going to come home on the podium as well he'll be delighted kelvin van der linde wins 25 points second place to alex alban third to my rocking fella and fourth to liam lawson so 188 points apiece for vanderlinder and lawson one more win for kelvin van der linde which might just prove crucial if we have a point situation where it's tied at the end of the final race of the weekend at norris ring in eight days time that was the replay lawson was not going to make life easy for rock and fella but rocky just had too much grip in the tires too much traction and ultimately too much speed [Music] what a fantastic thrilling end to the race that was he couldn't really have done any more there wasn't without contact that's for sure so once he got past he was gone no chance for liam lawson to fight back remember he got weight on the car as well so i had to dig deep but it's not a disaster fourth place and that means that's the only positive thing about that now is that instead of having 15 kilograms of success palace liam lawson's not going to have any weight on the car tomorrow kelvin van der linde will have 25 kilograms because he's just got his fourth win of the season by 5.8 seconds he takes the victory from alex alvin who had a great drive from ninth place there mike rockenfeller comes home in third liam lawson fourth max got a battling fifth esteban moot comes home in sixth position and then seventh to danielle goddard eighth of philippe ellis knights advance on abril and a point for tenth to hard fighting team o'clock at a real battle with marvin dietz for much of the race marvin though a good dtm debut comes home in 11th place sophia florsch a second best result of the season in 12th sb hawking one of her best results of the year in 13th cubit hat 14 lucas degrassi 15th dead core 16th and then we lost inca muller sheldon van linda marco whitman lucas our and argent mighty right at the start of the race so they're your top three with still 84 championship points to fight for kelvin vandalinder clenches his fists gets out of the car and well that was cool he said on the team radio at the end of the race absolutely right it was from your point of view first person should go over to congratulations mike rockenfellow i reckon um you can see that liam lawson is not best pleased with that move from mike rockenfellow there is let's say a conversation happening here liam fighting of course for every single point he can get not very happy with the contact that came with the move from my rock and fella each course will have their own point of view and i'm sure we'll get to hear more about it from both sides [Music] [Applause] [Music] but the incident not under investigation you can hear the cheer in the background i'm not trying to get the helmet off yet the first thing he's gone to do he's congratulated see with who he seems to have a brilliant relationship kelvin fender linda he's your race winner of the fourth time this season alex alban stays mathematically in the championship fight as well with that second-place finish this is fourth podium of the year the winner nurburgring third at zol the third at monza that's his second best resort a great drive he's talking about esteban mute overtaking but alex albert has been great with his overtakes in races as well this year did his very best to catch and pass kelvin vanderlinda but he was just too far behind in the end so there you go confirmation that provisionally we got a tie for the championship lead but with one more win than liam lawson it is kelvin van der linde whose name now rises back to the top of the championship table and then 165 points still for marco vittman no points scored today levelling up with him 165 but one less race win he's max scott who had a real fight out there with the car that was getting worse and worse as the race went on great respect shown between kelvin van der linde and alex album kelvin could be watching formula one next year and say i beat that guy a few times last year you know guys racing in formula one there's mike rockenfellow he's had a difficult uh second half of the season mike he started the season really well actually pointed all off the first seven races he picks up three podiums there as well on the podium again here at hook and i've talked about his record here before still looking for that first win but from such a lowly starting position after the troubling qualifying might rocket 17th right podium presentation's about to get underway as well so mike rockefeller is brought up onto third place on the podium his first podium for quite some time this season after an excellent drive from ninth on the grid alex alvin comes through paul smiles i think he's enjoying his season of dtm [Applause] he's certainly that's for sure the team's winners of course today are at sportsline who are fighting against they of course up for the team's championship and it's florian modeling up chief of motorsport at abs that comes on to the podium he'll collect the trophy for the winning team today at sportsline who's driver of course he's about to spring onto the top step of the podium because it's calvin vandalinder winner again after a difficult couple of weekends he's back where he wants to be on the top step of the podium and at the top of the championship points table [Music] so all smiles for kelvin van der linde and we now have the south african national anthem [Music] this year the south africa national anthem plays at a dtm podium ceremony it's so far been the perfect weekend for kelvin fandolinda time for the trophies now to be presented though and first up we're gonna have a dtm fan elena schaefer who is going to present the trophy for third place to mike rockenfeller next up from moto gp stefan bradle will come to present the second place trophy to alex alban two great stars of motorsport one of two wheels one of four and to present the uh winning teams trophy it is clouds ludwig a three-time dtm champion still racing in recent times in the uh dtm historic cars they're great to have players here with a birch liner here as well eight championship titles between them of course and multiple winner here at this circuit as well he presents the winners trophy to kelvin van der linde he poses for the cameras all three drivers and florian only get onto the podium now let's ludwig stay for the trophy presentation as well and kelvin vandalinder your race winner alex alberta might rock and fell in the top three now all up into the top step of the podium and that'll be the last race of the day for the champagne there's a south african national flag oh i think delighted that they made the trip from south africa and mom and dad now shawn and bernie because they've just seen their boy take another win proud parents they must be with two fantastic drivers in dtm oh well off to the laundry tonight then he's got absolutely soaked he will not care double podium sports line just the tonic they needed at just the right time three races to go and it literally couldn't be any closer in the championship but of course they got to do it all again tomorrow three more championship points available for pole position 25 more championship points available for a race victory and kelvin van der linde will have weight on the car tomorrow that is the downside of winning a race to get 25 kilograms on board for the next race in terms of the manufacturers standings great to see isn't it five manufacturers up there mercedes are well clear though with 448 points audi on 321 just ahead now of ferrari on 310. so close battle between audi and ferrari in more than one sense of the word beautiful weekend so far here at hockenheim feels like the summer always feels like a bonus when you get weather like this at the start of october 21 degrees t-shirt weather and the crowd has been treated to some thrilling racing super slo-mo mike rockenfeller riding the curbs then in the number nine at sportsline audi on his way from 17th on the grid charging through to finish in third place with a very smart strategy great driving from mike as well to manage the tyres to get him to that point but a bit of controversy on the on the move certainly from liam lawson's point of view with mike rockenfeller right we can hear from some of our podium finishers over the next few minutes that's first hand back then to varina i'm here with a man who really fought for his life coming from p17 to p3 first of all rocky congratulations if you ask us spectators us fans it was a marvelous move however just earlier we saw you talking to liam what was that all about well i i you know it's always like that in racing i mean first of all we had a really bad qualifying because i had technical issues on my engine on a sensor so i couldn't do a lab so that's why well i did a lab but with a lot of problems and that's why i was b17 and then we knew we have only one chance is to go long we knew our pace is quite good in the race well at the end of course i want to go for the podium and you know after what happened in nurburgring i said already in the interview you always see each other twice and that was a good uh time for me to show um yeah to pay back a bit what happened at nurburgring all right and your family's here so maybe they're also your lucky charm always i think every time they are here i i'm at least once on the podium i mean this year it's the first time they come but still in the past they always gave me some luck so i'm really happy obviously for my kids as well so you know what you need to bring them more often yeah exactly so okay congratulations what a brilliant move and we're going to go over here because we've got sheldon here congratulations sheldon wow what a fanta calvin i keep doing that i'm sorry your parents right you know that story yeah well congratulations what a fantastic son you've got i mean you really did a brilliant job coming all the way uh from pole to victory and now you're also leader of the championship even though you've got the same points as liam but you're the leader so how exciting is it all in front of your parents here yeah it's cool they're happy i'm happy um hopefully they got a bit of champagne as well that's what they came for all the way from south africa so i'm really proud especially my team you know they didn't leave any stone unturned in the workshop but i really worked extremely hard and you see the performance today also from mike at the end it was really fantastic fantastic and we just need to ask your parents if we may how proud of you are you i mean you've got both of your sons here in the championship but i mean obviously uh he's going for the title hopefully so how proud are you guys we are very extremely i mean this has been a dream since they started in gokart so we're extremely proud fantastic it's typical the man says you answer and then he answers well congratulations you've got fantastic sounds and we're very excited obviously how this is going to end up but let me just quickly see if we've got alex here alex is over there so obviously alex also did a brilliant job coming from p9 alex congratulations coming from p9 on to the podium so how excited are you yes uh good honestly it was a good race we had a pretty good good pace and obviously we stayed out on that first hint and had a bit of a tired advantage but we had to make a few good moves which i was i was enjoying it out there it was a lot of fun then you know this track it always brings good racing because the the slipstream the braking the big brakes you can always do some overtakes here which is which has been really good fun and uh yeah i enjoyed it a lot can we give you the nickname mr overtaker uh if you're mr overtaker it tends to be because you've qualified badly so i don't like the name but uh but yeah it
