so we are ready to write history today are you for the first time ever in the dtm history we've got seven brands and we welcome the new brand porter into the dtm family and we're super excited about this and you can really expect a very exciting race weekend and that's welcome to the nurburgring the sun is shining we've got spectators here and we're absolutely thrilled to get the race going in just a bit and uh well here's your commentator everyone thanks very much indeed varina chris hartley here in the commentary box to talk you through what will be the seventh race of this 16 round 2021 dtm season and as marina said it's a packed grid absolutely brilliant to have 23 cars on the grid in this new era for dtm because we have four guest drivers on the grid christian clean and the jp motorsport merced uh mclaren rather that was here with us at zolda two weeks ago luca stotz has come in uh he is in the top sport wrt mercedes and uh experienced uh gt racer and former blog pont champion that comes onto the grid and is impressed so far with his speed here at the nurburgring the local team as well top sport wrt but he's just outside the circuit we've got uh porsche in the mix for the first time in dtm and michel amamula the three-time porsche super cup champion with the relatively new team ssr performance who helped him to a title in the adac gt masters championship last year and we've also got a third car in the hrt mercedes lineup and it's the team boss hubert house who will be uh coming on board in the number six mercedes he is back in the dtm for the first time for 20 years and 30 years since he made his debut in the championship we've also got a couple of driver uh changes with uh devgor out for the weekend for personal reasons the number 12 team rosberg audi is going to be driven this weekend by another very experienced and successful gt racer which is the german driver christopher hass and the number 99 team abd sports line audi is driven by returning uh dtm driver marcus winkelhock who's been very much involved in the development of the electronic steering system the space drive system that's used on that car and comes back into dtm the one time grand prix started his only formula one race starts and let here famously at the nurburgring so that's your lineup seven different manufacturers for the first time in this era of dtm the first time uh since 1987. but we will now have a minute silence to respect the losses for the local floods here last month foreign [Applause] so a mark of respect for all of the people affected in these tragic floods that we had here in this part of germany in the i-4 region just about a month ago upwards of 190 people sadly losing their lives these terrible floods the record rainfall that came and devastated the area and of course all of those uh families affected by that we pay our huge respects to them and of course to all of the long-term difficulties that that has brought to local businesses already of course struggling with the pandemic restaurants hotels campsites devastated uh in the region there's been huge support from all the way across germany and from the motorsport community and from the dtm to help raise funds for the via for eiffel uh campaigns for example the uh abs sportsline team uh they've got a guest on the uh pit wall this uh weekend who and it was a bid to raise money for the campaign support groups and uh as a guest from the algar region of germany that uh bought the seat on the on the pit wall with the team for 6 000 euros all that money going to help the victims of the the floods the auction raised a total of 10 000 euros and uh partner hyla donated two and a half thousand euros the team itself donated another another thousand and a half euros across the rim as charity night lots of drivers uh involved in supporting and raising funds as well across the dtm but uh we hopefully will bring uh some joy and entertainment back to the region this first motorsport event since the disasters right as we look forward to the race then we can head back onto the grid and to verina as i mentioned this is a moment of history because we've got seven brands in the dtm one of them being porsha and michel amamula being the driver the lucky driver we're so excited to have you here unfortunately even though yesterday in the free practice it looked very promising you're a bit further in the back but what are you expecting for the race michelle yeah i'm very happy to be here with porsche the first time dtm also for me the first time in the dtm race so yeah yesterday it looked quite good but yeah we had better tires than the other ones so we knew already it will be not so easy for the qualifying uh yeah that's the real position now we have and uh yeah let's see for the race i think we can go a little bit quicker now in the race but yeah let's see how the race will go on and how excited are you and your team being here we've got spectators we've got fantastic uh weather and most of all you're part of the dtm now yeah it's very nice atmosphere here very professional and yeah i really enjoy it here and especially with the team i drive yeah we were very successful in gt masters and now we we do this and yeah it's very nice to be part of this championship all right we're happy too thank you very much michelle thank you and back to you thanks marina yeah great to have michelle amamulla with us some porsche with us as well michelle saying yesterday in the uh press conference that he very nearly became a dtm driver quite a number of years ago now we're in about 10 11 years ago he was a test driver and a reserve driver for the red bull formula one team and he almost got a drive in that didn't quite materialize he almost got into dtm but finally he has made it brought porsche with him and we can hear from somebody else now down on the grid with farina and i'm here with vinky marcos winkelhock fantastic having you here at the dtm uh you already look pretty focused i know you need to get into the car but just quickly it's your 50th race in the dtm today actually you don't look that old i'm just kidding but what's your feeling i mean obviously you're starting pretty much from the back but what are you going to do i'm i have to say i'm first of all i'm really happy to be back in dtm and i'm i'm i'm really really confident uh qualifying was not perfect but as everybody know we go with the steer by wire system still developing everything so from that point of view i'm i'm still quite happy the race is long one hour we have a lot of opportunities with pit stop strategy etc so i'm looking forward for the race and maybe you can up some places ahead knowing you you're going to push really hard thank you thank you so much off you're going to the car and back to the commentator thanks for reading it yeah marcus vince great to have him back in dtm he made his debut in dtm back in 2004 as a mercedes uh drive his last appearance in dtm uh was with team rosberg in the 2010 season he's never quite got the podium at a fourth place finished that year the couple of fourth place finishes in 2009 as i say he's the the one of the drivers but the main person that's been developing this electronic uh space drive steering system no mechanical net connection between the steering input the steering and the steering column of the car it's all done electronically with sensors and backup systems and uh marcus has said it's you know 95 like driving a standard car now but the reaction time is quicker especially at high speed he said the high speed corners that is where you really notice the difference but it just takes a little bit of adapting as a driver to get used to that but very much uh the way forward and as he said abs once didn't exist and it took you know a couple of years to get that developed to working properly and the same is going to be true of this we saw marcus wincock we've just seen marco vittman with a thumbs up to the screen as well one of the five different race winners we've had so far this season there's another of them philippe ellis who got his maiden victory at the last ring had a fabulous weekend there got a win and uh with a success ballast laden car i managed to get a fourth place finish in the second race of the weekend there so he's very much one of the key championship contenders and we'll start this race from the front row of the grid uh just to reiterate as well the top three drivers from the last race have to carry success ballast going into this one so it's much to look forward to in this latest adventure in the dtm 2021 season so we're at the nurburgring there the famous castle which is close on a thousand years old which overlooks the circuit clone to the top of that tower yesterday some spectacular views over this beautiful part of germany the nearest city is cologne which is about 65 kilometers away from the top of that castle on a clear day you can see the top of the cathedral in cologne but this place this area lives and breathes motorsport with of course the infamous and legendary nordschleife circuit just adjacent to this more modern grand prix facility a circuit to the nordschleife which is almost 13 miles long 20 almost 21 kilometers long and with huge elevation changes and 174 different bends greats have one there and this is the circuit where they all want to do well of course the launch life is still used on occasion for big events like the nurburgring 24-hour race we've got several nurburgring 24-hour race winners uh with us on the grid including the 2017 winner of that event kelvin van der linde who's going to start this race from pole position i spoke to him after he got his third pole position of the season this morning and uh he said to me i asked him about the circuit and he said i absolutely love the nurburgring he said but then again you ask a racing driver about a circuit and it kind of depends on the results they've had there he said i've happened to have had good results here so of course i love the circuit one interesting point that he did make to me though this morning calvin was that this circuit compared to zolda which has a fresher surface it's an older surface on the track here so he reckons that tyre degradation could be more of an issue at this circuit so i have to see how that affects the strategies and the the pit stops with the mandatory pit stop having to be completed by every driver to come in and i have to change all four uh wheels or four michelin tyres for the pit stop they cannot pit within a safety car window they can but it won't count as a mandatory pit stop and uh the pit window will open once the leader has crossed the safety car line on the fifth lap of the race it'll be a 55 minute plus one lap race that if there's a safety car could be extended by up to a couple of extra laps which we've had a couple of times already this season and uh the weather is set fair it's 19 degrees it's very consistent weather and temperatures actually the last couple of days hasn't changed a great deal since the first practice session yesterday we got the track temperature at around about 28 degrees as well that stayed pretty consistent it was clear blue skies this morning for qualifying there are more uh clouds in the sky they're light and white and fluffy and they don't seem to pose any threat in terms of rain unlike some of the dark clouds that we had here yesterday that might be a different story tomorrow with the ever-changeable weather unpredictable in nature as it is in this uh mountainous and hilly part of germany so there we see some of the contenders hoping to make progress from further back down the grid alex alban the formula one driver from the last couple of years now a reserve a development driver for red bull in his first season of dtm his first season of driving anything with a roof on top uh although his dad was pretty good at it his dad nigel was a uh one of the stars of the british touring car championship back in the day and also very good porsche racer uh competing in the porsche carrera cup uh in asia uh so i think they'll be although of course they all want alex to get up into back into a formula one drive which hopefully that will come true for him in the not too distant future i think nigel will probably be quite enjoying the fact that his son is uh involved in a high-profile touring car championship like this and of course still gets the chance to keep uh race fit there's his uh teammate to the left liam lawson who's second in the championship argent mining in the mercedes uh to the right vancouver labral went well in the uh first free practice session yesterday and the yellow mercedes to the left christian clean another x formula one driver uh on the grid they're only doing three races this season the jp motorsport team um but uh christian hopefully and the team might be thinking about coming back for a full season next year they've certainly done well so far and christian was another driver that went well uh yesterday from 20th on the grid though is where the porsche is going to have to come from the 10th row for michelle amamula who was second and fourth in the two free practice sessions yesterday i spoke to him after qualifying as well i said what's going on there because i thought you're going to be near the front and he was actually pretty happy with the car i said the balance of the car is good it feels really good we went quicker than yesterday it's just that everybody else went much quicker and as he alluded to on the grid with farina uh michelle muller saying that you know as a new team we get five sets of new tires that we can use over the course of a weekend once you've got done your first race in dtm which all the regulars of course have done you only get three sets of new uh slick tyres to use so obviously they're not going to be using their new tires in practice they've got to save them for the two qualifyings and the two races so yesterday uh some of the guest drivers had the advantage of being able to use a couple of sets of new tyres and nobody else really did have that benefit uh which is why or part of the reason why i think part of the reason was also the slightly better weather conditions today but part of the reason why it qualifying today they were going more than a second a lot quicker than they went in practice yesterday so this circuit 3.6 kilometers long it is the sprint version of the circuit that we're using so not the full grand prix circuit which we did use last year for the first time ever in dtm for one weekend there were back-to-back weekends here at the nurburgring in that pandemic hit season last year one of them was on the one weekend on the grand prix circuit and the other on the sprint circuit but it's back to the sprint circuit here so going through this uh first sector which is key through turns one two three and four that's the mercedes-benz arena out of here is where lots of drivers were running wide yesterday in free practice to go over the crest down the straight and they'll go into turn five the hairpin which is where they turn off the uh the regular circuit so sort of cut the corner before coming back on themselves and uh heading out to that heavy that's the first set to the second sector of the lap then runs up through the left-hander pretty much 90 degree left-hander at turn six the kumo curve into the right at turn seven the bit curve and then into the quick part of the circuit really which climbs up hill but he's very quick through the flat-out kink at hatzenbeck spogan and then into turns nine and ten the vidol she came at the top of the hill before the pretty tricky and uh very tight right-hander at the end of the lap turn 11 the coca-cola curve up so on the formation lap we are and let's go through the grid and how they're going to shape up for this seventh race of the season it's kelvin vande linda on pole position philip ellis alongside row two we've got marco vittman winner last time out at zolder so he carries 25 kilograms of success palestinian hunger day at starts fourth row three we've got lucas stoltz the guest driver and max scott and then on row four it's christopher hass and esteban moot to complete the top ten in row five alex albert and maximilian book and then on row six we've got liam lawson second in the championship and argent mighty row seven vance on april and christian clean row eight lucas hour and mike rockefeller row nine nico muller and sheldon founder linda wrote 10 marcus vince hawk and michelle amamola row 11 sb hawking timo glock and he but out on his return to dtm on his own on the 12th row of the grid here we go then 55 minutes plus what lapper racing gets underway here at the nurburgring it's round seven of dtm 2021 and it's gonna be time for the lead here because philly palace he's trying to come around the outside of the pole sitter marco fitment had a look at the inside that bmw on the grass has to back off out of it he's vandaling he gets there first and then you've got philly valley soon second and then under attack from the two mercedes of gods and hunker daya gonna drop back here two or three positions by the looks of it so they go through into the left and right turn three this still all tightening up here esteban moot in the mix as well trying to get up there great start for luka stotz he's gone into third place whitman has to concede two godzilla kadeya so he drops behind the two pick mercedes the first of which is the number eight group m led car of danielle hunkadere but everybody's safely through this very tight twisty section mickey alma muller trying to get through we got uh max book off i'm afraid uh in the mercedes so the number 18 muka motorsport mercedes on the grass spun around hopefully he'll get going again but he'll be right at the back of the pack and everybody else filtering through with calvin vandalinder leading the way liam lawson drawing alongside fellow 19 year old esteban boots liam in the largely blue red bull liberate mercedes uh ferrari you're on board with him now going alongside a drawing past him then is archer mighty in the mercedes the indian driver goes through this contact lawson goes straight on i think that he contact possibly coming from esteban mutu slowed as well christian clean trying to avoid it liam lawson continues on and tucks back in behind his teammate alex albert so a pretty dramatic first lap in the middle of the field and we're gonna have the safety card to punch them all up at the end of lap one with kelvin van der linde leading the race philip ellis second lucas dalton's third and tonka dayer in fourth gotts in fifth whitman down to sixth but still the leading bmw album seventh lawson in eighth place and it's because of max book's car which uh looks like he got going partially but then has stopped again on track he's still trying to get it going and into the pits another car that was at the back of the field and in trouble uh christopher hass so in the uh guest role this weekend replacing just for this weekend dev gore in the number 12 team rosberg audi i am afraid didn't have a good start to the race he was seventh on the grid and uh has dropped right back down the pack and he was already at the back of the pack before he came in so he comes in is this to do with contact or is it just a technical problem it doesn't look like they're gonna get him out any time soon they're inspecting the car but i'm afraid this does not look good for christopher after a really impressive performance yesterday in the free practice sessions which saw him near the top of the times so that's one of the team rosberg audi's out how's the other one doing nico muller he's made up some ground he's into the top ten nico after again a pretty good friday but not coming together for last year's championship runner-up in qualifying so hassell pits book trying to be recovered or trying to recover himself brings about the safety car that incident involving maximilian buki's being investigated by the stewards it says on the official timing screen and there unfortunately the motorsport mercedes being dragged back maxbook now in for the season having initially been brought in as a uh replacement for a couple of rounds at the start of the year for two-time champion gary paffett who was hoping to be back involved for most of this year's campaign but unfortunately having already had to miss the first two rounds with other commitments and formula e had to then miss round three because of travel restrictions from the uk and there are more tricky travel restrictions in place for the rest of the season so gary won't be with us i'm afraid for the season but max will he's a replay of the start see whitman got a good start at the bmw and then had to back off out of it as he tried to get past van der linde that was when hunkader and gotz drew alongside him vandaling defending off the challenge of philly palace a good start from esteban moot as he tried to come through uh from the fourth row of the grid from eighth on the grid in the t3 motor sport lamborghini there is where whitman has to back off out of it so hungadaya and then got straw along the side what about luka stotz because he emerged from all of this in third place in the green number seven uh mercedes run by the local team top sport wrt wasn't into turn one where he got those positions but on the twisty run through turns two three and four and that was the contact involving max boot going off the road looked like there may well be some contact from behind with lucas hour it wasn't huge contact but it was enough to tip the mercedes around but it was all constantine got really and there you can see evasive action being taken and unfortunately getting out of the car after a very short run in this race on his dtm debut is christopher hass have to do it all again that's thomas biermaier the team principal for abd sportsline whose driver calvin vander linde not only leads the race but of course leads the championship so safety car out 24-point lead in the championship now for kelvin after picking up three points for qualifying on pole position this morning so he's got 104 points liam lawson is second on 24th max scott's third on 72 marco whitman up to fourth on 68. we're getting ready for the restart just making their way for the vidal chicane or through it because it's going to be a rolling restart two by two formation safety car lights have turned out and it will be kelvin van der linde to the left of your picture versus philip ellis watch for luka stotz as well surrounded by mercedes isn't he the audi of kelvin vanderlin you've got four mercedes behind him i've got to wait till nico muller before you see another audi back in 10th place here we go then so the race distance will be extended because of that safety car we get the green flag we get the green lights we get back underway here at the nurburgring it's a pretty good restart for calvin van der linde keeping it on lucas stops versus daniel cadell behind as well philip ellis has got his nose in front but he's on the outside line here for turn one down to first gear vandalinder is through it's a tight squeeze at the back of the pack but everybody just about survives luca stops trying to come around the outside into turn two now he's got his nose in front he's got the inside line for turn three and he's gonna get second place i reckon away from philly ballista philip dives back down the inside brave stuff there from the swiss driver to get that second place back in the blue and white number 57 team win-win-run mercedes a couple of others running deep and wide including max goss and his fitment who's got back air to the two pink mercedes he's got back head have got he's got back head of daniel and gadaya and the bmw has recaptured two of the places that he lost at the start of the race so the double champion marco vittman in the bmw back up now to fourth place argentine in the mix as well trying to score his first points of the season in dtm just in front of him you got niko muller going world to will i think with alex alvin as they try and uh get positions i think he's got through as well alex has dropped back a place and they're rover bmw the yellow white and black machine trying to come through both of them trying to come through because neither sheldon van der linden or teemo glock qualified particularly well it's not been such a good restart for esteban moots he's dropped way back down the the pack been a pretty good restart though for marcus finklock he's definitely gained a few positions here's this battle between uh number 51 nico muller and number 23 the ferrari of alex alba with muller having got a head on this restart lap but now having to defend from the tie driver he draws back alongside in the ferrari he's gonna be in the outside line he's got his nose in front he's trying to follow his teammate liam lawson just ahead nico muller dives back down the inside gets back through but deep into the corner almost into the back of liam lawson liam then pulls away coming out of the corner with the red ball machine you're back on board with him now and he's trying to draw alongside daniel hunkadere and then a break mercedes has contact further back and uh a spinning car one gang out wide which is christian clean rejoining but off the road i'm afraid uh and not getting the car fired back up he's alex albert he just about gets it fired up now but there's all contacts christian clean involved in this one again hubert helped as well so there's cleaning the 15 mclaren getting back underway how to think we'll get back underway in his uh mercedes but it's all been rather dramatic here on this uh restart the first lap was pretty intense the restart lapper even more so and then even more so again on the second lap of this restart no dramas though for calvin van der linde leading by nearly three quarters of a second from philippe ellis lucas stotz in third place there's the contact sergeant mighty on alex alban and just coming out of turn two lucky he didn't get collected by anybody else particularly and then next corner christian clean involved and there he but helped and michelle amamullah making contact as well as he stood on the brakes tried to get out of the way in the porsche it was because christian clinton got way out widely because he rejoined right by esteban moods i think he probably would have had dirty tyres from going off on the escape route here's a replay there's the initial incident then you probably might see christian clinton coming back into the corner of his shot in a moment or maybe not he's alongside the on-board camera twitchy movements from lucas hour and his mercedes and then lucas i think he's going to run wide here possibly two three wheels on the curb four wheels on the curb coming under attack and a rather frenetic start to the race down to fifteenth place for lucas hour i've been lots of drivers up and down the order so far in this race and there is lucas coming out of the pits now so our in the bits hubert hout has come for an early pit stop as well now the pit window is open and there comes uh hubert who raced in the early 90s 91-92 season in dtm last time he raced in the dtm which was for opel he raced it initially for audi but for opel in 2001 didn't have a great season just got one point scoring finish and that was 20 years ago but he's the team boss of hrt who ran vats on abroad and also run the uh one of the two bright pink mercedes the one of max scott's who's up there third in the championship the number four machine same sponsor on those two mercedes but they're run by different teams one by hrt and one by grouper m the spaniard and then we've got uh nose to tail action with michelle muller trying to get back through the pack as well uh right it's been a dramatic start to the race to try and piece together some of it down with the drivers in the pit lane it's over to verina and i'm here with christopher very unfortunate for him obviously after a collision here to end the race and because of i guess it was a lot more than a flat tire what we saw so why did the race have to end what's up uh yeah i mean the race the first lap didn't went well i would say um we had quite some damage so we have quite some damage in the front and also in the rear in uh turn four and three to four this was quite hectic i haven't seen the incident right now so i can't say much about it but i had a little bit too less space i would say i had cars crashing on the right into me and those are car left to me so i couldn't let's say open the line and at the end two contacts which ended our race bad luck for your first race at least yeah let's hope for a better luck tomorrow thank you very much christopher and back to you yeah a real shame that for christopher haas who's got very happy memories of the nurburgring because he was the nurburgring 24-hour race winner back in 2012 and 2014 partnered by uh none other than marcus finkelhock we've seen michelle amamuela in the pits and while we were hearing from christopher hass in the pit lane with farina i also saw a nice move from the indian driver arjun meini uh to uh gain a place so arjun trying to push his way through into the point he's in the points at the moment running in the top ten up to eighth place after moving ahead of liam lawson in the ferrari with a nice move who's quickly recovering and max gots into the pits as well so the first of our championship contenders to come in third in the championship max scots into the pits here's a replay it was just coming out of the video she came before you get to the coca-cola curve right by the pit lane entry spins the rear tires of the river racing bmw back around lots of rubber laid down on the circuit and rejoins but a long way down the order we joining for the pit lane max scots it's coming out into clear track well clear of lucas hour he had his own troubles and a very robust start to the race for the austrian driver he's got a pretty good record here at uh the nurburgring one of the drivers that's gone well in qualifying in the past here lucas area has been on pole position three times and he was a winner here in the 2017 dtm season with mercedes but uh it's the number four mercedes that's come out well on top of these early pit stoppers max scott's through so kelvin van der linde leading he's grown the gap to two seconds now over philip ellis oh dear into the pits into the garage has come michelle ammamolla so out of the car and out of the race i'm afraid you say this is a trap of the poor she's gone well in the past he went here in the ada cgt masters championship last year on his way to the title but i'm afraid out of the race and not a good day for amma muller hopefully more to come from the porsche tomorrow some more drivers coming into the pitch including marco vittman marching mighty in liam lawson he overtook a couple of laps to go in and vancouver abril in as well the bright yellow number five hrt mercedes all right of course we've been very good at these pit stops well first in it very experienced gt team can they get him back out ahead of argent mining in comes abroad and out comes whitman who should have come out first anyway he might might have stayed ahead of the ferrari so that's important for him in terms of seeking points argentine he stayed ahead of the ferrari which he overtook in fact he's probably pulled away it's been a pretty good pit stop that i would say uh from the get speed team great job from them to get the car rebuilt after that big crash that he suffered at zolda which put him out of day two in belgium so vandalinder ellis stoltz your top three daniel hungadaya fourth nico mullet fifth after marco whitman came into the pits and sheldon van der linde should be moving up to sixth place with esteban moot seventh and then rockefeller eighth fingerhot knights it will be and then possibly sm hawkey might just creep up into the top ten now after these uh pit stops now a replay of what ah this is oh that was tight that was that's all abroad coming out of the pits and he just clipped the right rear corner of the of course a ferrari of liam lawson lawson holding his position and then comes the leader he got the top two so it's van der linde and ellie's in lucas dots will pick up the lead for now but still to make his mandatory stop go go go change all four midfields we'll be side by side with glock championship leader released we are not racing against but we'll be side by side and he holds position from philly palace he's told he's going to come out somewhere near team o'clock who had that spin a few laps to go come out just behind him in fact but don't worry kevin you're not racing against him so just getting the information there and other than glock ahead he's got a pretty clear track philip ellis comes out next so they're gonna be the top two pit stoppers and that should be max gots just behind them going into turn three as the third best place of the pit stoppers but lucas stotts it is that will pick up the lead for now and how far into the race will he be able to go before he paints his mandatory stop they're getting a pretty long second stint on this next set of tyres uh for those that are pitted early but it has generally been the way this year relatively early pit stops and then longer second stints and that's been by and large the strategy that's uh got you up onto the podium this season andrew mighty going well he's almost glued himself onto the tail of marco whitman now these drivers all having made their mandatory pit stops so they're out of the top 10 at the moment but they will be right back up there once everybody else comes in lucas best lap time he's a 128 zero he's just coming to the pits i was about to say he's pretty close to that lap time last time around so have a lost pace but he comes in daniel hunkadeya comes in as well so could stop constants come out in or around kelvin vandalinder and phillip ellis and hungary shouldn't be too far behind either so the team changed the tires only six crew allowed that's a couple of incidences this year where teams have picked up penalties and drivers have picked up penalties for having too many members in the pit lane stops gets out and he's going to be behind kelvin van der linde but he's going to be right by philippe ellis this is for a net second place ellis has got the momentum he's gonna have the inside line for the next turn he's got to make this stick for le pelles and he does uh stops gets the tires up to temperature so stops slots into a net third place as in he's third of all those that have made their pit stops he's behind calvin van der linde he's behind just philippe ellis but he has come out still in front of the number four mercedes of max scott so important that for him to at least hold station but thunder linda's definitely got a bigger than two second advantage now over phillip ellis so that pit stop period worked out well for him it's not been a great day though i'm afraid for porsche and we can perhaps find out why now down in the pit lane with varina what a big shame michael for your first race here in the dtm we can see some of the damage in front of the car what exactly happened why did you have to end the race yeah it's a shame we stopped already in the race uh i was on the inside and uh yeah i think out from the outside cars were spinning and there was a mercedes coming from the outside and towards me and then uh yeah the road was blocked and i had to drive into the mercedes and then uh yeah i broke my my front of the car and the splitter is damaged so yeah i had no no balance in the car and we couldn't even change the tire in the pit stop so yeah we have to retire bad luck thank you very much hopefully until tomorrow the car will be fixed better luck tomorrow thank you very much peter and back to you thanks verena so yes it was contact it was damaged to the bodywork and it was obviously pushed the body work over the wheel arches they couldn't change the tyre which was pretty key look at this though for a battle between the two world versus dtm races team o'clock in the bmw versus mike rockefeller the 2013 champion in the audi who's definitely had a position in this race because he uh he qualified in the second half of the field down in 16th place but he should have been in the top 10 rocky gets through now he should have been in the top ten but he had his best lap taken away for a track limits issue up at the chicane uh otherwise he would have been around about eighth or ninth on the grid i reckon so uh mike rockenfellow perhaps one to watch trying to come back up through the field he's a replay of this nice duel that we had between teemo and mike temo making that already big bmw nice and wide so the audi had to go off the road mike rockenfeller though he's pretty tenacious he came back he's done a really good job this year getting used to driving these uh new spec dtm cars mike rockenfeller so he gets through important move that so he didn't get held up throwing it all over the kerbs to try and now pull away and then we've got philip ellis pulling away from lucas stoltz so vanderlinder rather not rockefeller vandalinder that battle with esteban moot now coming in to make his pit stop a really good start initially not a very good restart lap after the safety car came in so esteban might need to pull off some of those great overtakes that he had in the race at zolda which is given in the nickname of the overtaker now the t3 motorsport lamborghini about to come back out so kelvin van der linde is sixth place on the road now i mean timo glock that he was battling with there didn't have to let him through because they were actually fighting for track position timo glock though has still got to make his pit stop uh we've lost michel amamula we lost christopher house we've heard from them both the driver we lost initially though from the race was max book who is talking to varina now unfortunately another car we lost in this race is of max book what exactly happened why did the the race end so sudden for you actually had a quite decent start uh went quite good up to turn three and was turned four i knew there were cars on the inside so i left them in space and i just saw now the replay we were three wide i guess and turned four with uh ferrari audi and me so i got the first hit then i went wide i had to come back back on track i got another hit and then into turn five i went on the outside was just driving with the others and suddenly i got hit from the rear again and then i spun around and then unfortunately i couldn't restart the car so that was over all right thank you very much okay max bad back there back to you thanks for reno nico muller in from the lead of the racer mike rockenfeller he's going to pick up the lead for now and then it should be marcus and alex albert passing me you know let's see next to you somebody getting uh updated us by spot as to where he's gonna rejoin in and around which cars so mullah making a later pit stop that others pretty good at looking after his tyres tucking back in behind to argenie so in with a chance of points he was running in the top ten beforehand mine's flashing on for philippe ellis there who's still keeping at bay the uh green number seven mercedes of lucas stoltz seventh and eighth on the road at the moment while they're sixth and seventh through the next time trap because mueller's been into the pit snap so rock and fella leads vince hawk second uh neither of them have made their pit stops alban hasn't made a pit stop yet he's going to be in third place once they come through at the end of this lap and then it should be up to fourth now kelvin van der linde the leading pit stopper teemo glock next but he has yet to come in and then you've got philip ellis who's a net second but six at the moment and then stops gotz and whitman and miney just behind so rock and fella there he is picking up the lead of the race the number nine audi followed by the number 99 audi of marcus finkelhock who had his one and only start in formula one at this circuit the nurburgring and uh is the still the only ever driver to lead a grand prix on his debut it was with the unfancied spiker team which doesn't exist at the moment went on to become jordan and then has changed names and ownership several times uh since but uh finka hawk who was a reserve driver for the team got the opportunity to race it was the european uh grand prix back in 2007 and uh because of changeable weather was anyone that came in and put wet tires on the car at the end of the warm-up lap he'd had a moment on the warm-up that put wet tires on even though the rain hadn't yet come and then sure enough on that one of the race it came and others on slicks went off the road others came in to change times but to intermediates which existed at the time in formula one and he was the only one that stayed on full wet tires and so from the back of the grid from dead last finklehawk led the grand prix the 2007 european grand prix by 30 old seconds unfortunately for him fernando alonso went off the road brought about the red flags the race was stopped and he didn't go quite so well on the restart he lost the lead he stuck with the wet tires on the drying track and then not long after the hydraulics went on the car and that was the end of his formula one career as it's only race in formula one replay of rocky pushing the limits a bit too much there and the other abs sports line audi it's lapped one two at the moment but these two have yet to make their pit stops not doing the tires any good there at all and also going not quite as wide but a bit leery through the corner and the exit to turn four that was was uh winkelhawk 1.6 seconds between them and then alex alvin who had that contact earlier on the spin he's uh ten and a half seconds adrift of the current race leader but the real race leader has just gone through your shot number three kelvin van der linde and now timo glock coming under fire for position from max scott's that will be for seventh place but teemo not really involved in the lead fight because he hasn't been in the pits yet in the bmw and we know he lost time earlier on with the spin coming out of the middle chicane before all of the front runners started to come in and make their pit stops just over half an hour remaining on the time race distance as i say extended it can be extended by up to an extra two laps so standard race distance is 55 minutes plus one lap uh but because we lost laps behind the safety car that can be increased by up to two laps which it has so it will now be a 55 minute plus three lap race as we get argent mighty versus nico muller as our next battle to keep an eye on this is for at the moment tenth place but realistically it'll be for seventh place once the top three make their pit stops and maladai on the inside nice determined and decisive move that from the two-time dtm championship runner-up nico muller the swiss driver puts the 51 car ahead argentine isn't going anywhere though he sticks with him as they make their way up towards turn 10 at the chicane shows his nose isn't quite close enough got lucas our behind in what's 12th place at the moment starting to come under a bit of pressure from liam lawson as well liam lawson drawing alongside him coming out of the veto she came that ferrari's got the inside line for the coca-cola curve and liam lawson should be through here lawson gains the place the ferrari goes through and trying to follow his example is daniel hunkadaya in the pink number eight mercedes so gots up to seventh glock down to eight fitment is ninth muller is up to tenth mighty he's down to eleventh and see we've got this squat ball between lawson and hour and hunger daya for 12th place lawson stays ahead howard might be in trouble here through turn two because daniel and gadaya coming after him now the two mercedes nose to tail allowing the ferrari just to creep clear and this could be a move from the spaniard daniel down the inside has to slow the car down enough to avoid running into the back of the ferrari does the job takes it off the list job done lucas out drops another place he was on the back foot there and he got the sense that daniel hungadaya knew this was going to be his opportunity while he was trying to recover his momentum and lucas out the austrian ends up losing two places that's on abril just behind in 15th place and you've got esteban moot in 16th at the moment sheldon van der linden 17th christian clean 18th sb hawking 19th and hubert helped the last of the runners at the moment in 20th place 28 minutes 15 seconds and three laps to go in the race climbing up hill once more into the video chicane and lawson's just edged away hasn't he gained a length or so here's a replay of this move from nico muller just flung it up the inside here fairness to arjun he gave him the room saw it coming and that was a very well executed move and just after that battle we had this move from liam lawson at the end of the lap coming into the coca-cola curve up and then at the start of the next lap a replay of daniel hungary drawing alongside and then throwing it down the inside on the way out through turn three covering off the position through turn four and demoting lucas out down to 14th place so there's your on the road leader mike rockefeller 1.8 seconds clear of marcus finkel running wide again he's pushing hard that's for sure his best lap he's a 128-3 his last lap was a 128.5 so the tyres still seem to be working okay despite the punishment he's giving them and vince lock's last lap was half a second off his best so he's maybe struggling with the tires a bit more now you can see him falling away here looks like rocky's gonna stay out and i think marcus is gonna stay out as well yes he is and you've got a bit of a gap before you get the third place car number 23 alex alvin is just coming out of the veto chicane he has got to make a big stop yes as well the driver fifth in the championship standings looking for maybe not today but this weekend his third podium of the season now we've got nico muller having got a head of teemo glock now whitman's already got ahead of him so glock starting to fall back now on fairly old michelin tires in the uh first of the rover racing bmw's been a valiant effort so far from teemo but that's been especially early on it's going to be lucky if he gets up into into the points into the top ten so muller on fresher tyres has dispatched of him he certainly pulled well clear of argent mining he only overtook him about three laps ago but the audi well clear down of the mercedes so timo glock has fallen down to 10th place now losing a couple of places on that laptop and muller and then you've got argenie what about his lap times compared to liam lawson who's now broken clear yeah lawson catching him three tenths quicker on that lap so liam lawson trying to pick up salvage a few points from this race if you can all the while knowing that the likelihood is that he's a big rival for the title calvin vanderlinder is on course for a third victory of the season at the moment but before he can catch argent mighty liam lawson is still going to have to work hard to fend off daniel underday here and the group group m mercedes which looks the quicker of the two cars at the moment so these two as it stands are battling over 12th place on the road but once pit stops happen for those front runners it's probably going to be the battle for ninth place it's the tail end of the uh the points here 30 year olds from barcelona daniel hungary pushing hard here roger mighty has called up to teemo glock just ahead as well no way through at the middle chicane and now you've got the third place car alex alban the ferrari caught by the number three audi of calvin van der linde who's the virtual leader the first of the pit stoppers and he's much quicker at the moment as you'd expect really alex is on old tires now due to pits soon i would have thought but uh he just can't get the car turned in as neatly as the audi at the moment on that much grippier much fresher michelin tyres you can see that in action here calvin trying to get up the inside trying to go around the outside you'll get better traction here coming out of turn four you can see the ferrari's a bit loose has to run to the edge of the circuit alex hasn't got to let him through and there's maybe a team job to be done here because alex alex albert's teammate of course is liam lawson who's fighting kelvin van der linde for the championship kelvin shows his nose the south african all over the curbs here this is determined stuff he's set it up but album has got inside sideline for the next turn and we'll be able to keep the ferrari ahead just about for now so until the curbs goes kelvin van der linde he's trying to be calmer in his approach he said this weekend i'm not sure who's gonna be that calm at the moment he said he was trying to cut out the swearing to verina after qualifying but i bet the air is blue at the moment as he got through though this time he's got the inside line but the ferrari's got the better line coming out of the corner he's through though alex albert holding up kelvin van der linde for half a lap also but in the end van der linde had too much speed too much grip and too much now he's not gonna be held up as uh any longer than half a lap there was he tried everything determined stuff from calvin he knows that every second every millisecond counts still got a decent buffer between him and what's his closest rival on track philip ellis once you take the pit stops into account now marco vittman being reeled in here by the pretty rapid-looking team rosberg audi of nico muller who won two of the four races at the nurburgring last year one of the grand prix layout one on the sprint layout timo glock in the background running wide through turn one really struggling with his tires now but one change further back sheldon vanderlinder is up to 16th ahead of esteban mute so he's got a head of the lamborghini and here is nico muller in the 51 team rosberg machine ninth at the moment traveling right behind the rear wing of marco whitman's bmw nika's had a second place finish at monza round two of the championship they're still looking for his first win of the campaign many would have fancied him as a key championship contender this year he's been consistently bagging the points but he's quite often had to come from difficult qualifying and come through the races [Music] caught out in one of the incidents at zolder as well with some bad luck there and struggled with the balance of the car at the las its ring so i'll be hoping for a stronger second half of the season having moved across to team rosberg who was racing against last year took renee rast to another a third dtm championship title in the background argenie is ahead of timo glock now and important cushion between himself and liam lawson who still kept daniel and gadaya at bay it's a mighty tenth place now and with at least three cars ahead of him likely to drop behind him once they make the pit stops rockefeller winkle hawk through and outbound as well who's down to fourth place look at this philippellus determined to try and find a way past the ferrari as well that was tight he had to back off out of it yeah he's going to be careful because he got luca stops just behind as well if he makes a a move and it doesn't come off here he's going to have to get off the throttle and stops will be through you see how loose the ferrari is coming out of turn four losing grip with those older tires but alex is not an easy driver to overtake just ask kelvin van der linde from alapago so philippe ellis trying to show his nose again coming out through turn five through the left-hander at turn six there's no opportunity at kumo kerva through the bit cover at turn eight he'll have to sit in line his next chance is going to be at the top of the hill going into the chicane which is where kelvin van der linde got past alex alban previously so philly palace he's got to be decisive here lucas stoltz shadowing him in the mirrors here trying to get past alex who's yet to make his pit stop he's hogging the inside line he's not making life easy here for phillip ellis who gets off the line and has to shortcut the chicane so you have to be careful here because he's gained a position stotz comes through as well he's going to argue that alex album forced him out there and i don't think he's gonna be best pleased with alex but alex is racing for position he doesn't have to wave them through he's not being blue flanked or anything i think phillips realized now he might be in trouble and the problem is once you back off you let another car through so that's very frustrating for philip ellis he's had to back off to let album back through to avoid any chance of a penalty but in doing so he's lost the place to lucas stoltz going down the start finish straight and might you know luca gets past alex without too much trouble here or does he because alex comes back at him now in the ferrari no he doesn't know but he's really fighting for everything he's worth here but eventually the mercedes he's going to come through on the way through turn four so philly palace losing a net second place there and i think the red mist will be up now now he dives down the inside of alex alban and this time he gets through with uh no worries about having to concede the position later on so this was what triggered it all off trying to come around the outside alex alban says no this is my racing line and there was no choice other than making contact but for philip ellis to go off the road one team happy about it one team as you can imagine not sappy about it and then he has to concede the position of lucas stoltz comes through and this is where luka then got past alex alban at the start of the next lap and philip julie followed suit well they're enjoying themselves there in the garage it's been a pretty entertaining race so far that's for sure now vince hawk's coming to the pits so that just leaves mike rockefeller at the head of the field who's still pretty rapid you know his last lap was only three tenths or so off his best lap of the race so rock and fella leads it's going to be an amped one-two still because one car has come in for the team but the other replaces it calvin van der linden will now move up to second on the road he's the net leader of course and uh there is marcus vince making his first pit stop of the weekend he's going to come out somewhere behind daniel hunter i think yeah just behind lawson and hungary so pretty good effort this from marcus vince just behind it side by side by side three together shield of mandalinda teemo glock luka sauer all piling into the corner together i think it is fedor linda that's got to the head of the queue got esteban moon trying to come alongside vancouver ambreel as well all battling there might not be for championship points but they're still fighting hard there goes esteban down the inside through he goes that's teemo glock at the back of the key yes it is who's got really old tires now and just has to run wide and let them through almost still liam lawson has his mirrors full of daniel hunkadeya still he will not concede the position so rock and fella leads there's the teammate number three kelvin fandor linda the championship leader who's around about 14 seconds behind it's gonna take way more than that for mike to make his pit stop so he will pick up the lead again and his advantage to luka stotz after all the battling that luca and philip had with alex albin is much increased calvin is going to be around about 4.8 seconds clear at the end of this lap he's got a nice clear track ahead of him as well so once it all settles down it should be vandaling in the lead stops in second ellis in third and then gotz in fourth place but for now mike rockefeller he's at the head of the queue having not made his pit stop alex albert hasn't made a pit stop yet either he's currently running in fifth place in the ferrari maybe changing his strategy after the incident which saw him spun around just shortly after the restart i could have much better on the brakes on the way into the right-hander at turn one so right down to first gear but liam lawson doesn't give him an inch ferrari looks pretty good good through this first sequence of corners as well through mercedes-benz arena we've got 17 minutes to go plus three laps 17 minutes plus three laps to go great tracking shot here ferrari going off the road the mercedes going off the road they've all been doing it all the way through the weekend i mean too many track limits warnings for that part of the course through turn five that's where they cut short the uh grand prix circuit and see mike rockefeller staying out you can see the undulation there nothing like the undulation you get on the nordschleife next door but it's certainly not a flat circuit this some gentle rises and climbs through the course of the 3.6 kilometers about 34 gear changes per lap and top speed of around about 260 kilometers an hour on this circuit it's not the fastest huge huge long straights apart from that kind of back straight and she does have a kink in it through turn nine right rocking fella doing a good job here but the pace is starting to fall away he's now half a second a lap slower than he was when the tires were at that at their best at a 128-8 but kelvin van der linde wasn't that much quicker 128.6 on the fresher tyres so he's going to stay out as long as he can but he will want to use the new tires to some effect later on he'll be calculating where he'll come out and there now trying to fire it around the outside into turn one of liam lawson can he do it no lawson drags the ferrari out wide and here comes the number 99 ab sports line machine of marcus winkelhock trying to get himself into position here he's got the freshest tires of these three having been only recently in the pit stops and he's setting this up nicely down the inside he goes into the right-hander and through at turn four to head of daniel and gadayah it goes marcus vince nice move that he thought about that he could see the two battling ahead and he just weighed it up gave them a bit of space and then had a run at the mint to turn four so he splits up this fight and that will be frustrating adair because he's been staring at the back of the ferrari for lap after lap after lap he's trying to go forwards he's ended up going backwards her place so good uh duel going on there sheldon van der linde catching them up in the background as well in the number 31 forever racing bmw so he's got a bit of pace here trying to get some points sergeant mighty at the front of the shop coming through in ninth place that will become eighth once rock and fella makes his pit stop i think it will anyway we'll see what the gap is now it's rock and fella pushing hard here is a look at the inside into the carolina finkelhack you don't see many overtakes there certainly not going into the corner into the braking zone but that was a big hard stare down the inside and that's the confidence that he's got in the tyres using this space drive steer by wire system as well marcus finklock and this pretty revolutionary car closing closing closing looks at the inside again the ferrari on the older tyres goes a bit wide coming out of the turn and now he finds it up the inside markers finger lock he's halfway alongside contact to liam lawrence and he's spun around vic lock goes wide shelton van der linde passes the lot of them and gains three places and that cadet has to get on the brakes as well to avoid all of that and there is argent money going a bit wide in the background coming out of turn four there is sheldon van der linde who rubs his hands together and says thank you very much indeed gained all of those places three for the price of one nicosaur esteban moot and vance of abril all gaining an advantage as well approached liam lawson the one who has dropped to the back of the group hopefully he's been able to get going again but yes he has he's in the background now just in front of teemo glock uh which means he's going to be down in 16th place i reckon liam lawson so chances of a top 10 now looking pretty slim he was fighting the car fighting the understeer and digging in but it's proven to be a difficult weekend so far for both of the ferrari drivers here here's a replay this is on board with liam then going into turn wanting c and fighting the car understeering big time there and watch to the left there's the contact finkel hop around he goes hunkerdale just comes across his bowers just misses him and he was not quite halfway alongside was he marcus finkelhock i both have their own opinion about that of course that's the reaction from marcus's team at sportsline yes no heading hands didn't work not quite and uh i'll be frustrating for liam lawson as well because because he's a championship regular and marcus winkelhock he's uh he's not he's one of the guest drivers so lucas our now versus esteban moot somebody you don't want any mirrors it's probably esteban because you know he's not going to sit there for long without having to go somewhere so lucas he's going to have to be looking left right forwards backwards to try and keep the lamborghini at bay impressive 19 year olds in the t3 motorsports lamborghini's teammate esme hawkey up to 19th place now steep learning curve for esme she said this weekend one of the circuits she's never been to before which in fantasies most of the circuits on the dtm calendar twitchy there for esteban he got on the curbs and got on the throttle hard hitting the accelerator and a time penalty of five seconds for nico muller for pushing another car so nico is gonna have five seconds slapped onto his race time at the end and that's at the moment gonna put him behind uh marco whitman is about four and a half seconds behind him so loser place he's seventh at the moment he should be promoted to six once mike rockefeller eventually comes in and makes his pit stop but the five seconds at the moment it's gonna cost him at least one position what he will not want is the safety car they'll punch up behind him five seconds could cost you a lot more places i want them to stay spread out so penalty for him we've also got a five-second penalty for esteban moot for disrespecting track limits and actually another penalty for uh nico looking at the uh messages coming up on the screen he's got five seconds for pushing another car he's got five seconds for track limits as well so ten seconds i reckon he's going to be added on to niko muller's time that could could well destroy his chances of getting any points we'll see we'll add to 10 seconds on and try and work it out as we go any more uh yes five second penalty for track limits resume hawkey as well so they're coming thick and fast i've been pretty strict on it today that's for sure drivers have had their warnings they're not obeyed them then unfortunately for them they start getting time penalties lucas our still just about fending off esteban moot the two cars you see battling over 14th and 15th positions rockingfellow goes through completes another lap van der linde and staltz philippe ellis has just gone past the commentary box window to start another lap and then alex alban i can see still about two car lengths clear of max scott's and then nico bella who's got these 10 seconds to be added on to his time and guess what uh car is under investigation for pushing another car you guessed it number 99 marcus finkelhock so marcus not a penalty yet but under investigation for the incident involving liam lawson a couple of laps ago at turn two so we've got just under ten minutes to go plus three laps once the time elapses and snukasara for now managing to keep esteban move behind like rock and fella looking at the time it takes to come in and out of the pits 30 seconds or so i reckon he still got a good chance of some points he i guess he'd come out somewhere near argenie mighty in ninth place marcus finkelhock undeterred has uh got back into the rhythm now after that incident and has got himself back onto the tail of sheldon van der linde who's the one that benefited most from that incident he gained three places so these two are battling over what at the moment is is tenth place and they probably gonna be battling for ninth or tenth or eleventh once rockefeller comes out and makes his uh pit stop and alex albert as well still to come in they're going to be pretty late stops for those two and teemo glock hasn't been in yet despite the fact he's tumbled down to 18th place now so here we go nose to tail nose to tail here max scots has got through ahead of alex alban alex he's not really involved in this fight because he's going to make a pit stop and nor is nico muller really because he's got these time penalties to be added on five seconds for disrespecting track limits at the chicane five seconds for pushing another car so 10 seconds in total which is a real killer for nico he's not having a great deal of positive fortune so far this year the swiss driver and look at this nose-to-tail battle just behind us we've got sheldon vanderlinder having to really defend here now from marcus finkelhack who thinks about the same move that he tried on liam lawson into turn two perhaps wisely thinks better of it this time it's like an angry b though isn't it all over the back of the bmw swarming around ready to sting at every corner very good on the brakes finally into the pits comes timo glock he's only got eight minutes or so to get the most from these new michelin tyres and it looks unlikely he's going to pick up any points in this race so frustrating starting [Music] not handling well moving around under breaking not a good day for team oh my rocky fella then makes his stop from the lead of the race i think he's gonna come out somewhere near marco whitman argent mighty sheldon vanderlinder tail end of the points let's see just coming out of the pits now he's going to get the tires up to temperature as well rejoins cuts in now and that's just in front of marco whitman but fitment i think he's going to be close enough to attack even though he's got his tires up to temperature so he's come back in behind alex alvin has yet to make his pit stop and almond has already lost the place on track to nico muller but niko's got his 10-second penalty so it could still be some decent points here from 16th on the grid for mike rockefeller because he's going to get past alban once he makes his pit stop and he's also going to uh be ahead of nico muller once he's 10 second penalty is added on at the end of the race all right uh we've got the 99 audi ahead of 31 bmw so marcus finklock has eventually found a way past sheldon van der linde remember the german driver on much fresher tires having pitted as one of the last to make his mandatory stop could well get some points here marcus sprinklehop without button yet to make his pit stop he's already into the top ten he could drive this for the back of the field unless he gets a penalty of course because that's under investigation that move with liam lawson on board then with kelvin van der linde he's picked back up the race lead now prop up and he's four point five seconds clear of lucas stoltz in second phillip out ellis up to third and max scott's is gonna move up to fourth place and then question marks because it will be niko muller next but what about the 10 seconds and where does that drop him down to alex albert i can see coming into the pits from the commentary box window so you'll see him coming in now as the last of the pit stop stoppers from fifth place well from sixth place on the road alex album and she continued to ride on board with the championship leader looking for his third win of the season there is alex in the pits so he's probably going to drop him out of the points now [Music] and the car the engine stops and that might be game over might have a problem here not trying to fire it up quickly and so i'm afraid it could be a very rare non-finish for alex this is a replay of him marcus finkelhock got past sheldon van der linde it's just superior grip with the fresher michelin tyres just able to dart it down the inside and then this is him on the attack now with argent mini and carrying speed around the outside did he get there got his nose in front stays there gets the inside line for turn two and through so he's gained another position on archer mighty this time with alex alban into the pitch that's going to be up to eighth place for marcus finkelhack once it sorts itself out and yes it is going to be a retirement from the driver fifth in the championship standings maybe the second time he's not finished in the points maybe the first time he hasn't finished a race this season for alex so a frustrating day as kelvin van der linde holds steady just under four and a half seconds clear of lucas stoltz guest driver so he'll finish second but philippe ellis who's third would pick up the points for second place the 18 points that you get for second because the guest drivers can get trophies and so forth but they can't get that was really good i had a lot of fun to mistake sorry we're having a lot of fun too you will come out in front of drive through penalty for marcus sorry guys i was having a lot of fun it was a stupid mistake he said and it was because of this move on liam lawson which uh rather ruined liam's race i'm afraid so not intentional it's just a half move which didn't quite come off and uh marcus regrettably has to serve the drive through penalty is anybody too surprised about that really uh but goodness me sure good pace didn't he and had he not got the penalty could have been points plenty of points as well for the car from the very back of the grid so drive-through penalty costs him dear and it means that argentine he now moves back up to eighth place he's three minutes and three laps away from getting his first points in dtm and what an historic moment that would be because it'll be the first time an indian driver has ever scored championship points in dtm it's been coming i'm not surprised i thought they would come earlier he looked for all the world like he was going to be up there at last its ring but it never quite worked out for arjun but he's driven superbly again this weekend still got a fight on his hands though with daniel hunter there just behind him and uh still lots of battles down the order liam lawson's still not giving up he's in 15th he's trying to catch the group ahead esteban mute never gives up and here we go down the inside into the coca-cola cover esteban mutt with another terrific move through he goes on lucas hour or does he because inside line coming up for the lamborghini but the nose in front for the mercedes of lucas hour is not gonna be best pleased about that still side by side lucas howard comes back at him gets his nose back in front and then covers off the line on the way into turn one under braking esteban now tries to find a in the armor coming out of the turn but lucas our holds the line esteban's tried and tried and tried but cannot find a way through has to close the door in time to stop that's on abral coming through has another look now at the inside here through the left hander at turn three that's not happening so he has to tuck back in behind the mercedes of lucas out through turn four and look how much the ferrari of liam lawson is able to catch up while they're all holding each other up if you can get these three places it'll push him to 11th place but still just outside the points still worth trying that you never know one championship point at the end of the season could make a massive difference so he's got to keep pushing liam lawson again another one that's not going to be giving up here and lucas ours got his hands full for the last part of this race he's had his hands full for a while now with his bad mood as i said it's the one drive you don't really want any mirrors because you know trouble's coming you know ain't going to be an easy ride to the flag if that lamborghini is in your mirrors switch back to his original livery having had the special art livery at his home weekend at zolda which is a very impressive design but uh do like the standard delivery on that car as well it really stands out right you've got number nine mike rockenfeller trying to uh get a good really good result here he's got ahead of max scott's hasn't he so it's fourth place now for him replay of it all bunching up the start of the race that incident that sent max spook into a spin lucas hour involved which is why he dropped down the order a bit as well i think our ever came under any real investigation for that one so to the final minute of the race three laps to go at the end of this one what's now 55 minute plus three lap racer mike rockenfeller terrific drive from 16th on the grid having got past max scott's up into fourth place now max got his fifth nico muller who you can see there in the number 51 team rossberg and he's sixth on the road but add ten seconds to his time and that is going to put him back behind marco vittman and sheldon van der linde i reckon so he'll be it'll be uh whitman up to six sheldon vanderlinder good drive as well from a lowly grid position will be up to seventh and nico at the moment which slots into eighth place but it all depends what happens with those gaps as uh the last few laps unfold so three laps to go the time has elapsed extra couple of laps because of the safety car and kelvin van der linde just keeping lucas starts at bay now the gap's not growing it's not shrinking it's staying at around about 4.4 seconds so calvin he's already the only driver to win more than once this season he's about to have three times the number of wins of anybody else now if he could just hold it together which doesn't seem to be a problem for calvin he's loves this place he's loving this championship and as i said a few times now he has followed his career up until dtm will know he certainly knows how to drive these types of cars and how to win races and came into this championship as one of the key contenders for the title and wanted to be in dtm for a while as his teammate mike rockefeller in fourth how far behind philly palace is eat the answer is seven and a half seconds probably a bridge too far but it's just that the personal best first sector his last lap uh was a bit slower than philly bellis because he was overtaking but uh mike rocking fell a fourth get the points for third as well because lucas stoltz is second as a guest driver kelvin van der linde through he's just batted off the pace a bit now that was a relatively slow lap last time around 129 hopefully he's just bringing the car home because he lost a couple of tents on that lap to uh lucas for the first time in a while but i suspect he's just trying to win at the easiest possible canter now look after the car out of turn one comes philly palace in third place then it'll be mike rockenfeller he's probably trying to invade now to close that gap and then max scott's followed by niko muller but nico with the 10 second penalty twaddle to his time which at the moment demotes him two places behind marco vitterman and sheldon van der linde daniel hunkadeya ninth argeni 10th and 4.4 seconds clear of lucas hour and 11th so he's on course for his championship point here which will mean not just a huge about for argent but also for team getspeed another new team in dtm but a great moment for them to get a point as well especially after all the work putting the car back together after the unfortunate accident at zolda uh two races ago [Music] so there is your race leader kelvin van der linde making his way up into turns uh nine and ten the video she came followed by lucas stotz there is philippe ellis who was uh second on the grid good start though i wasn't at the beginning of the race from lucas starts to get set up there and then the decisive moment really in that battle for second place was when philip got stuck behind on old tyres at the time alex alban and got past it but had to cut the chicane to do so had to give the place back up and that's where stops got through and philip hasn't had the pace to be able to hang on to luca ever since great moment for luca as well going to be on the podium in his first attempt at dtm so to the top uh top sport wrt team and their local track here it's been another good result for philip ellis he's really impressed this season the former audi tt cup champion one of the five different race winners that we've had this season been a pole sitter as well and he's driven another strong drive here but kelvin van der linde just seeing through these final stages of the race now bringing the car home he's definitely backed off the pace but doesn't look like there's anything to worry about with the car i'm a pretty early pit stop for calvin as well so he's going to nurse the tires to some extent but he's quite happy to give away two or three tenths to lucas dots gaps down to 3.9 seconds but that's still a pretty comfortable advantage with just a lap and a bit to go now kelvin there coming into the chicane just at the end of sector two over the white line to complete that sector you saw luka stotts in the background and then phillip ellis a long long way back twelve and a half seconds back from the leader now in third place still a pretty tight battle for eleventh between lucas our esther band moot and fancil abril esteban still can't find a way through only three tenths of a second behind liam lawson still 14th clean 15th hawkeye 16th finkel danny's 17th place now after the drive-through penalty hacked 18th clock in 19th place as on to the last lap of the race goes calvin van der linde he's on course for another perfect day already got three points for qualifying on pole and 25 more points coming his way now no points coming the way of liam lawson so he's going to more than double his championship lead over liam lawson in fact liam might lose second place in the championship here max gotz is in third place in the standings and only eight points behind liam lawson he's going to finish fifth it looks like but he'll pick up points for fourth which will mean 12 points so i think max scott's is going to be moving up to second place in the championship and marco vittman's going to take some points away from liam lawson as well and philippe ellis who already moved up to fifth place in the championship after picking up two points for qualifying this morning he's also very much in the hunt in this championship but this is the driver to beat approaching the halfway distance in the 2021 season we'll be at the halfway mark after tomorrow who knows what tomorrow is going to bring but saturday at the nurburgring has been all about calvin van der linde he said we weren't quite on the pace yesterday in practice but he's on the pace today it's going to be a third win of the season for kelvin van der linde and he extends his championship lead in the dtm he takes the victory boys thank you lucas stopped second balanced amazing race a win again congratulations save fuel and collect pickup very very good calvin great job great job man it was a superb drive thoughtless today again from calvin van der linde his brother's had a pretty good uh drive through the field as well sheldon van der linde down from 18th on the grid he's going to pick up some good points so it's kelvin van der linde lucas dalton philippe alex your top three super performance from mike rockenfeller as well who really made the tires work and the strategy of pitting late work to progress from 16th up to fourth place max scott's again picking up some good solid points in fifth position marco bittman is promoted up to sixth place up to seventh place sheldon van der linde from 18th on the grid that's a really good drive as well and then after the 10 second penalty nico muller is demoted from sixth down to eighth so eighth place for muller ninth place for daniel huncader in a race which probably promised a bit more than that but it wasn't quite to be and then arjun meini has crossed the line in 10th place and is a points finisher in the dtm well done arjun well done team get speed 10th place and a very well deserved point for argeni 11th place lucas hour 12 months on april 13th liam lawson got uh ahead of esteban moose who dropped down the order of this on that last lap something happened there but esteban 14th christian clean 15th uh marcus finkelhock it all went well until the moment with liam lawson but showed that there's plenty of speed in that car 16th 17th especially hawkeye 18th hubert hampton has returned to dtm team o'clock with another frustrating race 19th as the last of the finishes with alban amma muller hass and buch all as non-finishers but kelvin van der linde at the top of the pile once again and he'll now move on to 129 points in the championship he's been in the points in every single race so far this season worst result of eighth which was last time out at zolda every other race he's been in the top four and he's won three of them and he's been on the podium four times and that is how you build a championship title campaign another proud moment in an ever-growing list of proud moments for the fandu linda brothers for the family and for south africa they've got two real stars here and a nice moment there between the two brothers thumbs up both be happy with the way that went i reckon but it's uh calvin van der linde who wins and nobody had an answer to him today he just had the edge over everybody controlled things at the end of the race even pulled back away on that last lap to win by 4.7 seconds huge congratulations though as well to lucas stoltz on his debut in the dtm second place finish for him and the top support wrt team will be very proud of their achievements philip ellis coming home in third another strong drive for philip that's actually only second podium of the year but what's got that win at the last ring and he keeps banging the points rock and fella nice drive up to fourth place gots in fifth whitman sixth vandalinder seventh muller eighth hungarian ninth and argeni in a terrific 10th place finish having threatened to get into the points pretty much every weekend so far this season he's eventually done it and i think there'll be plenty more points coming his way the rest of the season he's looked good here at the nurburgring so there's the rest of the runners and riders and some non-finishers unfortunately in what was a pretty lively race here particularly on the starts and restarts all sorts going on and some great battles as well we had drivers getting frustrated with other drivers kelvin van der linde dealing with um he needed to get past pretty robustly and fighting all the way as he always does to a third victory in the dtm it's not a bad record this is he's had seven dtm races he's won three of them and he's been on the podium four times so more than half his races in dtm he's been on the podium and almost half the races he's won kelvin van der linde he said to verina after qualifying this morning i'm going to be a bit calmer today some of my friends were telling me off for swearing too much on the scene radio so i'm going to try and be polite which he was in fairness and there's a nice moment calvin on the right sheldon on the left the older brother takes the win but uh superb performance from the younger brother sheldon van der linde to fight his way through and well done luka stotz as well second place is dtf always this easy he says no no it's not but today he worked well as a team quickly and superb second place finish strong drive as you say uh lucas daltz former black pond champion endurance champion knows all about gt cars and has simply transferred that here to get used to new tyres of course uh some of the uh drivers that run in other categories like adhd gt masters where they use different tyre compounds and tire brands using the michelin tires here but uh he certainly got there got the hang of it got the grip of it very quickly indeed it's time to get the helmet off yet kelvin vandalinder probably needs it from protection from the ab team jumping all over him now in celebration i know something special is building here this season long way to go not yet at the halfway distance but as kelvin himself said being the leader at halfway stage in the championship doesn't mean anything it's got to be the end of the championship but that if you told him at that at the start of the season that's a very nice picture for calvin is that 129 points max scott does indeed move up to second place on 84 now so that's a very healthy uh 40 uh seven point lead in the championship now he's got max got into second then liam lawson uh with no points today that's no point from two of the last three races with some misfortune again for the kiwi down to third place in the standings there the rest of uh the results it's all looking very good for calvin van der linde better be well aware that motorsport can turn on you pretty quickly enjoy the highs while you can keep working hard and never take anything for granted but everything so far has gone pretty much according to plan van der linde with a win another victory uh for audi in what was the 87th dtm race here at the nurburgring it's only hockenheim that's ever hosted more dtm races than this circuit it's a popular venue and as i said at the start of the show kelvin van der linde told me that he loves this place but he loves it probably because he always goes pretty well here generally goes pretty well here i think he probably loves it even a bit more after the end of today well done to kelvin vandalinder to the ab sports line team and hopefully bringing a bit of positivity to this part of the world which has suffered so much in the last few weeks with those terrible floods the economy the local economy and businesses all need motorsport they all need the nurburgring they need dtm so the crowd here hopefully in some very small way helping to contribute back to the start of the rebuild so onto the podium in third place philly palace making his first ever visit onto the podium well done to luka stoltz team ab sports line of the winning team and it's going to be vaulted cold that comes up as the team representative to pick up their team winning trophy so another victory for the average sports line team who already came into this weekend leading red bull alpha terry af courser in the teams championship there is volte cole and uh he is the man that donated that six thousand euros to be on the outsports line pit lane so very well done walter contributing to the recovery fund for the local flood victims but kelvin van der linde up on to the top step again he is your winner of round seven of the 2021 dtm extends his championship lead days don't get much better than this more to do tomorrow but for now he can celebrate and he can join the national anthem of south africa [Music] we're getting used to it the south african national anthem playing here at the dtm and again a uh very special thank you to volta colb there who uh the team are very generously allowed to present uh collect the uh teams winning trophy there on the right of your picture he's the one that donated 6 000 pounds in an auction to be on the pit wall to be part of the team uh with that money all going towards the flood victims here in the i-4 region so great work by the team and thank you walter and thank you to all of the people that have helped to support and raise funds for those in need at this time a great moment for volta as he gets onto the podium himself as well alongside team leader kelvin van der linde good day all round for our sports line great drive from rocking up to fourth as well we'll get points for third they'll extend their lead in the drivers and teams championship and had a pretty lively run from marcus finkelhock as well up until that fortunate collision with liam lawson which liam will not be best pleased about hopefully a better day to come for liam tomorrow but for now it is champagne time you've got no chance volta the three are pros next year they've done this a few times before sofalter at least he put his coat on i suppose good foresight he probably got advised make sure you wear your coat perhaps taking umbrellas to the podium because you're going to get wet but a great moment he'll never forget this and a great cause as i say to out raise money for those victims of the eiffel floods so calvin van der linde with the biggest smile in the pit lane celebrations plenty of work still to be done though in terms of uh media we'll hear from him uh very soon i'm sure there's volte cop can't really see what's happening anymore because he's got champagne all over his spectacles he's absolutely drenched but now he last gets a taste of the champagne what stays in his mouth anyway so nice touch that from the team and terrific effort super slo-mo of our top three drivers and we can start to hear from our podium finishers now because we've got verina reit down with them in the pit lane and i'm here with phillip ellis who's got a smile on his face i hope a little bit a little bit i know obviously coming from p2 he lost one one place but still p3 is pretty good you're collecting valuable points and uh what's your feeling uh yeah yeah pretty good um i think a bit unhappy as i say coming from p2 dropping back to p3 but uh then again it's p2 for points thankfully so it wasn't too bad um you know tried everything at both starts to get kelvin but i figured he's experienced enough you know so it would have been a hard pass to to pull off i tried it anyway and that's about the the chance they had and after that you know we didn't have the pace of the audio unfortunately today but uh we'll fight again tomorrow i bet you will and how tough is it out there in the new book ring how challenging is it it's very tough especially the tie deck is very big um so especially the last probably 10 laps i really struggled a lot on the ties i was actually afraid that rocky would still catch me since he stopped quite late so it was it wasn't a dif it wasn't an easy one um but yeah i think we have some some points we can improve for tomorrow and then we go again absolutely all right philip thank you so much thank you and i'm gonna try to grab one of the others in just a bit but for the moment back to you thanks marina a nice drive from uh philly palace who's right actually we were concentrating on following kelvin vandalinder home at the end of the race but having been seven and a half seconds behind with a couple of laps to go mike rockenfeller was just over half a second behind philippe ellis at the end of that race so he very nearly made it onto the podium so terrific effort from rocking fellow maybe pity one lap earlier it might just have worked out for him but still he'll be very pleased about that let's hear from another of our podium finishers though back to varina let's hear from a funny man because i may quote you he said the ice cream is better than the trophy almost i know you're getting uh used to the winds but i'm a bit envious of the ice cream to be honest where did you get that from so quickly yeah andrea organized it for me i was talking to her on the radio on the way into the into the box and i said andrea organized me on ice cream it's so hot in the car and this is better than the champagne have to say we need this every race absolutely and then one for us too okay but congratulations i mean kelvin you're just unbeatable it's your third win of the season you're a half time champion if you uh if you wish and i mean it's just going so well for you so i guess it's just going to continue like that oh it's not that easy i don't know what to say really i waited my whole life for for this dtm moment you know every year knocking on the door of aorti please take me please take me and you know the wish never really came true until this year and i'm just honestly enjoying every moment of this and right now i can't really it's not been realized already really yet i think i'll only really realize that in cape town in the year when i'm sitting on the beach and maybe having another ice cream then i'll uh maybe enjoy it a bit more but right now just enjoying it and living the dream i bet you are thank you so much enjoy your ice cream too and see you later back to you wouldn't be surprised if there's an ice cream sponsor on the side of the cart the next round uh it's gonna cost him a fortune in ice creams at this rate if he keeps on winning the way he is but kelvin van der linde cooling down i mean he looks like he's just stepped off an armchair he's so fit isn't he i mean you and i have been in that car or most of us anyway would have been on the floor lying down eating about 14 ice creams just to try and recover he looks like he's just been maybe for a mild stroll uh after what was a very you know pretty punishing race for him it's pretty relentless around this sprint circuit don't get much respite and uh as i say it's it's not the hottest day in the world uh 28 degrees track temperature and 19 degrees air temperature it's just nice outside but you've got around about 20 degrees to the ambient temperature when you're looking at the inside of a car so it's around about 39 40 degrees in that cockpit hard work indeed so super slo-mo's of our top three from the first race of the weekend here at the nurburgring philip ellis with his second podium of the season luca stops with his first podium on his dtm debut as the guest driver great drive by him as well after a very good start to the race but your winner once again extending his championship lead calvin van der linde from me in the commentary box it's goodbye from chris hartley and back to varina to round out the show what is spectacular first race here at the nurburgring we're really looking forward to tomorrow because we we saw so much action here today and i'm sure tomorrow is going to top that even more so make sure not to miss it tomorrow and hear the highlights for now enjoy and see you tomorrow bye [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you
