about a week ago I started a replay of the original Paper Mario with my Nintendo switch virtual console it's amazed me how well this game still holds up the biggest thing from this game that still holds up the most for me is the boss fights they're just so imaginative fun with great backing soundtracks to boot I could replay through them forever the life High I've had playing this game got me thinking why don't I do a video where I rank every single boss from the Paper Mario series from worst to best and mini boss is included at first thought I figured it wouldn't be too hard to properly assemble a list for this video but holy Lord there are a lot of bosses in these games it's one of those things where you don't fully realize the sheer amount until you've typed out the name of just about every single one on a Google Document like myself I'd be lying if I said this wasn't fun for me though so without further Ado here's every single Paper Mario boss ranked of course don't be a stranger to hitting that subscribe button with the notifications turned on for more Nintendo related gaming content like this in the future first up on the list is actually more so a group of bosses the mini bosses from across the franchise that are just bigger slash stronger versions of regular enemies that either have the same design but just upscaled or have a different color for example the Big Chain Chomp from sticker star the big lava bubble and spiny from Color Splash and the paper Macho enemies from origami King and this boss is kind of all blend in together for me and don't really add a whole lot to the table most of them even having the same moveset as their base versions but just have a bit more attack damage and more HP with the exception of a few pairs none of these bosses really got me excited when fighting them it always felt like a chore if anything I just wanted to get them done as fast as possible the exceptions to these are the following which have the slight Edge those being the Goomba brothers from Paper Mario 64 the armored harriers from Thousand Year Door the Sumo Bros from Paper Mario the origami king and the colored Dry Bones from the Thousand Year Door yeah they're still just recolored versions of Base enemies but at least they have a bit more personality to them especially the Goomba Bros with their relationship with King Goomba the dry bones don't have any dialogue but the process you have to go through to get them I always found fun that being being having to mow through a bunch of normal dry bones to find the unique one Mega Sparkle Goomba I almost grouped in with the original group of regular enemies but just bigger but I can at least say this one has some semi-unique transformations to it as well as solid enough theme to it that it's a unique fight to that alone which I can't say for some others buzzer is a roadblock mini boss you have to fight during the events of chapter 2 in Paper Mario 64. although this is the only time you fight this guy I always liked his design yeah he's this world's version of a klepto but it's clearly not a copy and pasted version of one he's unique for sure plus he was the first boss in the game to introduce the concept of having to mash a to dodge certain attacks with the faster you mash the less damage you take I always found mashing in Mario games a fun way to test my skills fuzzypeed Falls in a similar category where he's a fuzzy species but is designed in a way to stand out more the reason I gave him the edge over buzzar is due to Mario needing to strategize more to defeat him he's a ceiling only enemy that can disable Mario's jump hammer and can hide in the dark forcing you to use what to actually damage him in hindsight the stake mini bomb was a pretty hilarious way to go about having Mario cook a steak but I was not a fan of this boss suffering from sticker star syndrome using the correct thing cards in order is one thing but knowing how much you need to hammer it before using the thing cards is straight up trial and error how would anyone know off-rip that it needs to be hit enough where it's bent over 90 degrees too much or too little and Larry won't eat it even if you use the thin cards properly it won't matter if you don't hammer it properly it was one of the only times I had to look up how to beat a boss in that game I was not a happy camper that day handicondo from origami King I feel like gave a lot of trouble to people who went into this fight completely blind the way you needed to play to deal damage to this thing was very specific and almost annoying to figure out however the soundtrack that plays during this fight is awesome the rock paper scissors battle is fun enough and it feels like this battle has a lot of stakes to it since you have to beat it in order to save Olivia the Bowser fights from Super Paper Mario pretty much stand on equal footing for me since his horns are all spiky you can't really jump on him so the standard strategy is to use Boomer to explode at Bowser's feet whenever he jumps it's still a Bowser fight though so it's decently fun nonetheless as fun as a Super Paper Mario boss fight can be that is Gus is an optional midi boss from Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door and one of the only bosses fought on rogueboard's Surface his two attacks being a spear throw or a spear charge that do three damage each it's a pretty standard fight but I just like the crow enemy design a lot it's one of the few enemy designs that's totally unique to the Paper Mario series and it's unfortunate that it hasn't made a return in any of the modern titles and sadly probably never will Lee and Chan are two of the main trainers at the toad Town dojo in Paper Mario 64. if you want to go through the dojo trials you eventually must face both of them Chan's fight is comparable to a standard Buzzy Beetle where you just gotta flip them over to new damage but he's got some personality to him and is willing to give Mario some fighting advice Lee has the edge in terms of the fight itself though due to being a dupla ghost allowingly to transform into any of Mario's partners and use their abilities turning into a fight Warrior more or less now fighting yourself having to learn the timing of guarding against your own attacks now for Mr L what what yeah I know he's on the lower side but let's keep it the fattest stack everyone the actual Mr L fight is not very impressive it's just him jumping around like Bowser did and using a super jump instead of breathing fire yeah he can heal himself but the charge of time for that is so long that it's incredibly easy to just interrupt him before he actually drinks it if I wasn't so biased to this character and theme song he probably would have been lower to be honest but Mr L is amazing and his team's amazing so the samurai bosses from date 25 50 75 and 100 were interesting enough and not very hard because let's face it they're Super Paper Mario bosses I can at least say the sammer guy designs as well as the environment you fight them in is cool I've always been a sucker for temple slash feudal Japan looking areas and games I still can't get over how Bowser's kingdom was one of those in Odyssey it's so good and it's a nice change of pace to the traditional pit of 100 trials the Paper Mario games have had it's kind of crazy this game has three different versions of that though bone chill is the chapter 7 boss in Super Paper Mario a dragon-like beast that specifies in ice related attacks not a very hard fight since you can pretty much stun unlock this guy with Luigi's high jump though I do like how the more damage you do to him the more color he loses from his face slash body I wonder if that was one of The Inspirations for the concept of enemies losing color in Paper Mario Color Splash but overall it comes down to how Luigi is the most optimal for this fight and using Luigi never gets old for me King crocus IV served as Super Paper Mario's chapter 5 main boss I liked how this fight Has Two Faces to it one where you have to use his other heads to hit the main head and where his head flies around requiring you to use these spiked flower petals against him or just jump on his head with Carrie gotta be careful with the timing too because he can use his own pedals to Shield himself it was a cool twist to find out he was never really a bad guy either he and his subjects just felt like they needed to step up after their water was being polluted for so long Shadow is the secret boss to the pit of 100 trials and flopside this boss is kind of like a scuffed dupless or Mimi where it can shape-shift into General forms of Mario Luigi Peach or Bowser but the body is always completely blacked out it's a unique concept for sure but with Shadow only turning into your available characters and how simple all the game players in this game it's not the most engaging fight in the world maybe if we saw its true form as the Final Phase it would have stuck out to me more the kamik fights from sticker star and color splash were decent enough I liked both of them equally so I couldn't really put one higher than the other kamik's never really that strong in these games it's just that he uses magic to make the fights a lot more gimmicky and a mostly positive way like when he shrinks You In Color Splash or forces you to attack him with flip-flop stickers instead of actual stickers and sticker star that one in particular was a bit tedious but at least it was pretty funny robot l-type was definitely the lesser of the two robot fights from Super Paper Mario but still decent enough it functions similarly to how Bowser's fights did in this game only brobot had a bit more variety in attack power like throwing rocket punches or doing ground pounds plus I mean come on it's a giant Luigi head how could you not have at least some fun dueling with it the under chops were arguably the most unique boss in Super Paper Mario it seems pretty obvious the style for this fight took inspiration from the mother Series games and how they traded fights which if true it's a very awesome Easter egg it wasn't necessarily that easy either because the core strategy for this fight revolved around using Piccolo putting them to sleep a pixel that you as the player kind of have to go and search for and not being hand given to you like most of the other pixels were so I really like that uh extra strategy element Francis I feel like this weirdo chameleon mostly speaks for himself the guy forces Peach into playing a dating Sim game with him that moment still goes down as one of paper Mario's most hilarious moments to me I don't care and for a nerd he's pretty slippery too there were times where that man would turn invisible instantly Flash the camera and then turn invisible again like I I can't touch you oh chunks the Scottish freak with a digestion problem was always a treat to fight never hard in the fights themselves didn't vary all too much but his fight with Bowser was definitely my favorite the way he tried to redeem himself by saving the heroes after he was defeated Bowser joining in to help too which turned the situation into a meat measuring contest it was good stuff his theme is amazing too it's almost on par with Mr L's monstar is a mini boss that Mario encounters during the events of Paper Mario 64's seventh chapter not a very challenging fight but I just love this thing's design so much it's it's legitimately one of my favorite looking ghost designs in a Mario game plus learning it was never actually a ghost but a group of star kids trying to stray away evil Intruders was a nice little twist as much as Mimi freaks me out I can't deny that she's a solid boss the way she just walks towards you looking Unstoppable using those Ruby crystals As Weapons plus that one unique fight where she didn't even turn into a spider was a nice change of pace it's so interesting too how she's one of the only major antagonists that doesn't really have a proper health bar she only takes Progressive damage if you attack her in quick enough succession to remove one of her legs oh dementio how I love your design to death the way you use magic to attack your foes whether through purple blasts cloning yourself or explosions but I cannot deny the big reason he's higher than the rest is because it felt so satisfying to whoop his cheeks every time the way he always acted like he was smarter than everyone around him annoyed me a lot as a kid and it felt good to keep making him lose a proper follow-up to this super dementia the most powerful being the Paper Mario verse has scene besides Bowser himself I really wish I could have put this boss higher because of how strong and cool looking he really is being a funny but also creepy Fusion between dementio and Luigi it's just this fight is held back heavily by the gameplay from this game this boss has very basic attack patterns and can be beaten very easily by just spamming fire breath with Bowser for example if this fight was used in another turn-based battle system Paper Mario game it could have been a lot better I feel count black on the other hand had a lot more going for him in the attack variety Department yeah the black holes the time slowdowns and shooting blasts of Shadow at you his theme and design aren't as good as super Dimensions but the gameplay felt quite a bit more engaging which gives him this slight edge here fractal and racktail I like a lot because these two are bosses that you can't just beat through jump spam like just about every other boss from Super Paper Mario there's at least some strategy to it with using those little toys to throw in its antenna on top of those two being the only fights in the game that require Mario to use the 3D flip mode to make progress in the fight it's a shame how there weren't more bosses that had you use it because I thought it was a pretty cool mechanic that they added to the game the standard bro about fight was without a doubt my favorite boss fight in Super Paper Mario definitely the most creative one too having the heroes partake in a space shooter style fight with scorpion being your main source of ammo plus there's all these cool power boosts you can get that can increase your damage and make you move faster or put a shield around you just to name a few examples it's genuinely the best way a chapter revolving around outer space could have ended the anti-guys are a very powerful group of shy guys that have appeared on several occasions throughout the Paper Mario series and the main reason I decided to give these guys their own tear and not group them with the other stronger versions of random baddies because fighting these guys is genuinely challenging which was a nice way to test the skills of players after going through a game that had been more or less a cakewalk prior to said fight I think we could all agree Paper Mario games are generally easy for the most part the Bowser Jr fights and sticker star were decent enough even though that game as a whole is very questionable it was nice to see Bowser Jr make his proper introduction into the Paper Mario verse he was never really fought in a turn-based style format before this game either unless you want to count Partners in time but that's not really technical a fair amount of strategy was named to beat him in his third fight too and make sure you're stocked up on those raccoon stickers or you'll be in for a world of hurt Kensi Koopa is an optional mini boss that can be encountered after Claire and Paper Mario 64's fifth chapter however he's no pushover so it might be more ideal to fight him after beating chapter six to be honest having 10 attack power it's most ideal to try to put him to sleep or make sure he can't attack too much he falls on his back like a regular Koopa but you need to have good eyes to pick the proper Target after he's flipped over which is his tail following the proper strats make it fairly easy but not doing so can lead to a decent challenge the big Lantern ghost is definitely an easier fight than Kent functioning similarly to fuzzy peed where he likes to hide in the dark and Mario will need to attack his Lantern to reveal him before being allowed to do damage it was nice to see these types of shy guys weren't just left in the dust in Yoshi's Island either they were always one of my favorite versions of shy guys beating this guy unlocks one of my favorite Paper Mario Partners too that being what which definitely adds some extra points for this guy Spike also known as lackalester is an interesting one because this is one of the few instances in one of the Paper Mario turn based games where you have to fight a partner before having to join their party the other being Vivian and I guess kind of Vistaril the fight's basic but I just like lack of Lester so much how he tries so hard to act tough the little green hair or wearing sunglasses instead of regular lack of two glasses if watt didn't exist he'd be my favorite partner from the original Paper Mario the regular Lord Crump fights were always fun anytime I got to interact with this character it put a smile on my face he was such an idiot but he's my idiot the first fight acts more like a tutorial for the player to learn Action commands however his second fight was a lot more special obviously we knew he was at Keyhole key the entire time and it didn't stop his epic reveal from being great and when the fight begins he's got tons of different phases to go through all involving ex-not soldiers helping him out trying to just jump through this fight would be a lot easier said than done the Goomba King has become quite an icon over the years in the Mario franchise I feel like a lot of people forget Paper Mario 64 is where he made his debut you could technically beat this fight through just jumps and hammers but it's the first fight in the game that gives you the choice to think outside the box a little specifically with the gumna tree being an attackable Target striking it at the proper time could result in King Goomba taking massive damage to make this fight a lot less stressful I just wish the Action commands were available though I never understood why you couldn't use Action commands in that game until after the prologue I always found that strange the tower power Pokey was probably the most fun I've had fighting a pokey enemy in a Mario game which isn't saying too much but it was a solid fight nonetheless the theme for it really did a great job of bringing out that feel of being in a desert the way it just kept getting bigger and bigger as the fight went on requiring Mario to eventually use the bat sticker in order to make the fight winnable nothing too outstanding but definitely not sticker star's worst Petey piranha from both sticker star and color splash function mostly the same neither required a specific thing sticker to defeat but are both at their weakest once they're dizzy the sticker star fight definitely had more Stakes because you would get Kirsty back after dealing enough damage to PD what I was not a fan of is how by this point in the game the infinite jump sticker is a thing to make certain fights an absolute Cakewalk who thought adding that sticker was a good idea like honestly it's so bad Bowser's sticker star fight has some cool faces to them coupled with a very epic climax theme for the Final Phase what I don't like is how many specific things stickers are needed for this fight and how the game gives you zero hints about what you need literally none it's just trial and error unless you're extremely lucky or look up someone else's playthrough for the fight I can respect the fight still being on the more challenging side even if you know what to do and how cool Bowser looks here but man would it kill them to give any kind of hint at least color splashed seem to mostly fix that problem Mr blizzard on the other hand was quite a trade one of the few instances where you're not forced to use a specific thing sticker to make progress in the game or else you die or get stuck you pretty much just have to follow Pokemon logic with this one it's a giant Bowser statue covered in snow that works like a Russian doll simply use Firebase attacks like the fire flower or the space heater thing sticker for maximum damage the more damage it takes the smaller the statues will get eventually revealing Mr blizzard he only throws snowballs at you but it's what he says after you're beat him that gets me apologizing for the trouble he caused and hoping he can be built again next winter and poor guy all he wanted was to not melt Morton JR is the first chapter boss and Paper Mario Color Splash call Splash definitely does have an issue with bosses requiring certain thing cards to be used but at least they give a lot more hints via dialogue or make it super obvious which one to use which stickers don't have trouble doing oh Morton's Hammer's on fire boom fire extinguisher the pedestal made things tricky at times too because the hammer needed to be used to knock them off and you can only do that if no enemies were blocking your path I remember I died to him on my first ever playthrough of this game because I didn't know where the fire extinguisher was said Iggy on their other hand was a lot more fun still having chain Chomps as part of his character he was the perfect boss to choose for a coliseum-based final dungeon for color splash's second chapter the boss theme fitting perfectly for a Coliseum level with it consisting of mostly horn instruments the jousting cars shared with him and his cronies topping it off by using a giant chain chomp against him to reveal his weakness I just wish he wasn't so easy considering what was available to you at the time for all these fights Morton was arguably harder than Iggy was but Iggy's still my boy though sir grotis the leader of the xnots was quite the Epic semi-final boss to the Thousand near nor the way this menacing Maniac had this very sinister throughout the entirety of the game being able to finally face a mono a mono felt great the backing track isn't the best in the better world and the fight itself isn't that hard and I feel like that's because they wanted to make the Shadow Queen fight feel that much more epic which I can kind of respect but at the same time it takes away from this fight standing out more not a bad fight by any means but I feel like there could have been more to it even if he wasn't the end-all be-all for this game's boss bunch hooktail gloomtail and bone tail are three dragon sibling bosses fought in Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door hooktail being the chapter one boss Gloom being a roadblock in chapter 8 and bone tail being the final trial in the pit of 100 trials these three all follow a similar attack pattern requiring about the same amount of strategy to beat so ordering them properly was a little hard for me Hotel literally can't be beaten unless you have a specific sound effect badge on gloomtail can poison you and bone tail can freeze you make you dizzy and put you to sleep obviously bone tail is the hardest but they all follow the same attacking patterns for the most part just with different side effects to Mario or his Partners they give off such menacing energy too a hotel being the Beast that terrorized pedalberg gloomtail wanting revenge for his younger sister and bone tail being considered one of the game's ultimate challenges very good stuff indeed Wendy ocupa is the chapter 4 Boston Color Splash arguably having the best theme out of all the Koopalings in this game how perfect to have Pirates chanting in the background in a chapter that was themed around pirate patodge looking for the Lost Treasure and Adventure she even does her attacks and rhythm with the music which is always something I've loved in when video games do stuff like music Madness from Donkey Kong Country Returns it's pure Bliss yeah she does require the camera thing to beat but she gives you many obvious hints as to what it needs to be saying things like take my picture and say cheese to Mario before charging up her ultimate attack the only thing that annoyed me is why she was fought after Ludwig smorg is technically the chapter 6 boss in the Thousand Year Door although not directly guarding the crystal star for that chapter like all the other major bosses did this thing is almost on par with Mimi in terms of freakiness it feels like a plague outbreak gone horribly wrong the way it consumed all the passengers truly sickening even its theme heightened to the freakiness to it it really isn't a hard boss and has the classic take out certain parts of me before being allowed to attack my main body thing going for it only thing that felt hard was trying to guard or attacks man was the timing for that awkward or what the Bowser and Cami fight as well as Cami koopa's only fighting the original we're sick I'm putting them around the same since these were the only times the player had the chance to fight this character in the whole series and both of them were unique in their own ways seeing Bowser and Kami fight together was awesome but also Scary For a Thousand Year Door standards that fight was definitely on the harder side mainly due to Cami being able to use healing moves and Status Buffs to increase her side's attack power if you didn't take her out first then you were in for it powerlift is your best friend for that fight as for Paper Mario 64s it's the only fight in the game where you get to play as twink to be the boss yeah it's not hard but that fight is such a good motivator seeing a little twink who started off as just a regular star kid growing more and more powerful with the help of Peach's wishes eventually getting strong enough to defeat Bowser's right hand it felt very inspiring in a way even if it was somewhat corny tun Koopa is quite a funny guy the way he pretends to be some ghostly figure to scare Mario away because he's clearly not keen on fighting him his design is very cool too they couldn't have made the concept of a Koopa that's also a pharaoh like any cooler his theme also fitting super well with the area he's located in requiring you to strategize around dealing damage to him as well as his chain chomp just an all-around good boss now this might be a crazy take but I think sticker star's gooper blooper fight might be my favorite iteration of a grouper blooper battle in the entire Mario series or at least top three I was never the biggest fan of sticker star's overall soundtrack and I'm very glad things improved in that department with Color Splash and for sure origami King but holy cow the music in the gooper blooper fight is incredible it follows the same Principle as the 1D fight with the fun doubled the music in this fight is constantly changing and so are gooper bloopers dance moves with it with the best part of course being the climax where a remix of the original Super Mario Brothers theme starts to play what a treat that was anytime I've listened to this fight on my own I can't help but jam out the Earth of Elemental was our introduction to Paper Mario the origami King's newest boss battle system where the bosses were technically in the middle of the Rings instead of on the outside like standard baddies are although it had a tutorial-esque style to it learning about the specific system was very fun to me because honestly I really liked how the bosses function into this game each one was a big puzzle with different gimmicks in each that could be real head scratchers at times so going through the process of figuring out how the Earth developmental had to be defeated in a similar manner to how Koopas were fought in the first two Paper Mario games was very cool to see after fright reward was also great giving Olivia an extra power boost for a Future Puzzle solving rubber band is definitely my least favorite member of the Legion of SNES narrow to fight but that doesn't mean he's not a good boss this theater obsessed villain was a very tricky fight for me to beat during my first playthrough he'll throw rubber bands out of the board that will change your pathing if you run into them living Mario to strategize around that to make sure he lands on the proper spot which in this fight's case almost always needed to be on the fold arm spot standard attacks don't work on rubber bands so you needed to pull the rubber bands out of his body to deal proper damage with the foldarps ending the fight in the most fitting way possible by Mario flicking the main body off his thumb like a kid in a classroom so funny the ice filamental might have been the hardest boss for me to figure out how to beat in the entire game at first at first too bad just had to use Firebase attacks to deal the most ideal damage as his tradition it's when it started doing that ice block attack on the Rings that's when I really started getting screwed up I literally had to take a picture of how the path originally looked on my phone when I first bought this thing I just couldn't for the life of me put the path back normally still had fun though just didn't think I would need to strategize it that much in a modern Paper Mario game at the time the water of Elemental was another one that gave me a little bit of trouble those freaking whirlpools man there would be so many of them on the field the closer we got to the end of the fight that if you didn't make the exact Right Moves you were pretty much screwed but you know what I kind of respect it in this instance you know a lot of strategy went into fighting this knowing when you had to jump on it when to use the earth power and when to use the fold arms not doing this in proper order could result in a game over plus it's a dragon dragons are awesome the last developmental of them all the fire of Elemental I mean it's it's literally Moltres do I need to say more it's Moltres the fun fact if you didn't know all developmentals are actually based on the four symbols which are four mythological creatures that appear in Chinese Consulate relations Larry Cooper was arguably the hardest of the Koopaling fights in Color Splash besides maybe Roy mainly due to how the fight required you to go through a gauntlet of regular baddies before being able to actually damage Larry and if you didn't beat them quick enough Larry would keep Perma healing himself and you'd have to start from scratch meaning you had to plan out each attack very carefully the thrill levels in this fight were very high for me too I think it's because the whole battle took place on a moving train it was very invigorating Ludwig was also great having one of the more unique fights in the game for sure with his first phrase requiring me to destroy his half-made Battleship with the only way to do that being the use of the raccoon cards to bounce the cannonballs back at him followed by his submarine phase which requires the use of the balloons to counter never would have thought Berto would be helping me defeat Ludwig one day but here we are still triggered by the fact he's fought so early though it's he's supposed to be the strongest man why junior Troopa has become one of paper Mario's biggest icons mainly because of how many times you have to fight this little rap each time is more fun than the last though Junior Troopa is always fought as a roadblock boss in between New Chapter transitions he can fly use image to put a spike on his head or all the above I oddly found his bratty personality very Charming because he reminds me a lot of Bowser Jr just way more vocal even though you were fighting the same character each time every single battle had varying strategies to them which never made fighting him dull oh he's flying and has a spike on his head hopefully he got your Spike Shield equipped or aren't afraid of using what pair carry or both I really respect his never give up attitude too no matter how many times Mario beat him he never gave up coming back each time with more energy than the last let me's Color Splash fight was quite a treat as the koopaloo spends all his time on a rubber ball like a circus clown it was only natural his main Hideout would be a circus even his fight theme having a very circusy vibe to it with the instruments being used there the way to make him vulnerable is super funny too forcing him to dance followed by popping his special ball I think he might be the only boss in the game that requires two different thin cards to beat which made him stand out for me more as a result and in a positive way at that the Magnus Von grapple fights were the best fights to go toe-to-toe with lower Crump and Paper Mario the Thousand eurodor the theme music how goofy the robots looked it was all so fun even though they were both very easy I still felt a sense of accomplishment after winning not only do both of these fights earn Mario Crystal star but being able to take out the right hand of the xnot leader at his best on top of that it really felt like Mario was making solid progress on a journey I think my favorite attack this thing used was when he would suck members of the audience into the robot and shoot it back at Mario getting the timing down on those blocks could be tricky as well because if you get one right but mess up the next it can be tough to get back into the groove of things Jean-Pierre Polner wait that's that's not right Jean-Pierre colored pencils the 12th served as the first member of the Legion of stationary Mario had to take down in the origami King also if you didn't know the reason he's named the 12th is because he's got 12 different color pencils this fight was so hilarious the way the colored pencils work as missiles falling from the sky having to close the case so they self-destruct on themselves requiring a lot of rotation to optimally damage it too they needed to be in front to damage it if it's stunned or behind it to close the lid to blow itself up the finishing blow you can do on this thing is very epic too grabbing all 12 of the colored pencils of the fold arms to just slam him into the case oh what a finish very fun first boss to the most recent title Bowser's final fight and color splash was a lot more straightforward than sticker stars but I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily you weren't forced to use specific thing cards at specific parts of the battle with zero hints to take Bowser down this time the twist of Bowser not really being the True Villain was pretty shocking too it was the black paint that actually took over Bowser's mind with the real Bowser not even knowing what's going on in real time the climax of the fight was easy but very sad too because it required sacrificing Huey to get rid of all the black paint Huey was one of the funniest Paper Mario Sidekicks giving his life for the greatest I actually almost shed a tear during my first playthrough rest in peace Hubert Roy was definitely the best fight in all color splash not only did his boss theme fit perfectly with the personality of his character but the whole gimmick around him shooting paint at you was so cool to me he repurposed his Bullet Bill Cannon into a paint cannon that shoots different colored paint at Mario if Mario shot with red for example he moves and attacks faster which means the players to input Action commands at a much higher speed to do optimal damage green makes a move slower and purple poisons him to damage him every turn for example it's a really fun way to test your input levels the washing machine is the big key to winning this though because it's the only way to clean up Roy's black pin attack I really wish Roy had his own area or chapter dedicated to him though I was not a huge fan of him being fought so close to the final battle and inside Bowser's Castle although the master is technically an optional boss in the original Paper Mario I feel like I had to put him this High solely for how difficult he is this guy does so much damage it's ridiculous if you're not prepared for his fight you will get bodied and apparently he's the only optional boss in all of Paper Mario who's not a reskin of some kind either which makes him unique in that aspect and even though he's a nice guy I'd be lying if I wasn't getting enjoyment out of fighting a toad why can't that be a thing in more modern titles I wanna I wanna beat up some toads Macho gruba is the true main boss to Paper Mario Thousand near doors third chapter initially believed to be a fun-loving manager who just loved the sport of fighting he was revealed to be a power hungry Maniac that sucked the life force out of new recruits to keep himself in good shape he literally goes Super Saiyan before you fight him by the way this guy's attack variety is insane too from backflips to speed ups that allow him to attack twice in one turn or becoming dodgy which can make Mario or his partner's attacks miss it was nice to learn he wasn't affiliated with sir rotors or the shadow coin at all either he was just on his own the whole time which felt like a nice curveball to the usual defeat insert grotus or Shadow Queen minion here the way he fights was a nice way of foreshadowing the power of this Crystal star Mario gives in Battle 2 which is of course boosting Mario's attack and defenses by a certain number of stages the Cooper brothers one of the best first bosses I've ever seen in a Mario game how can you not love these guys they're literally the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even their boss theme sounds like it could belong to a band of superheroes I just loved how involved they felt during the entire journey through chapter one the way they were shown to keep setting up traps for Mario as he got further into the Fortress was so funny they're one of the only major bosses to make a return later in the game too albeit knocked Away by Junior Troopa but it was still nice to see them again I really love these goobers hole punch the Disco Devil is one groovy office supply his theme feeling like a mixture of trying to encapsulate the feeling of desert and disco was perfect even what you have to do to fight this guy is hilarious which is have a dance party to the right tune like gooper blooper in one day hope punch is also constantly dancing to the music playing in the background which is always nice the strategy for this fight isn't too hard you know the back side is the weak point what is cool though is how the hole punch damages Mario he'll literally cut holes out of Mario's Body that decreases Mario's Max HP and Mario will need to pick up those pieces of himself throughout the battle to make things less tough I wonder how people would react if this song was ever played in an actual Club [Music] the Shifty sticker tape is so good one of the big reasons a lot of these origami King bosses are so higher because of the themes the composers for this game absolutely snapped onto battle themes it's generally the best OST in a paper Mario game to make it's the way the guitar plays here that makes it so awesome coupled with the fact that the gimmick of tape sticking the Rings together making this one of the few boss fights that practically forces the player to use the sliding mechanic was an interesting change of pace which I was never a huge fan of because turning was just way more fun but it was a good way to get your brain going and of course the tape sounded like a mobster like it's from New York it was very random but also hilarious the shadow Sirens are one of my favorite groups of baddies in all of paper their Dynamic is amazing Beldum the small and Skinny Shot Caller Maryland the dumb Powerhouse and Vivian the in-between sweetheart their theme is great their designs are great and their fight is great I love the way each of them have an elemental specialty Vivian being fire Maryland having electricity and Belden having ice which all correlates well with the colored Stripes of each of their hats learning they were never truly working to help growth the entire time was a cool twist too it reminded me a lot of how dementia went about things in Super Paper Mario just with a lot less foreshadowing plus if it wasn't for them Vivian wouldn't exist top three Paper Mario partner of all time right there huff and puff was the main boss for Paper Mario 64 6th chapter and considered one of the hardest bosses in that game but that's only if you don't know what to do the main thing that makes him annoying is that he can heal and has a charge attack that can deal a lot of burst damage as long as you're using AOE attacks when there's a lot of rough Puffs on the field you should be mostly fine I feel like for first playthroughs it'll give a lot of people trouble if they're going in blind but once you know what you're doing he's not all that I still like the fight a lot though I just wish he was a bit more involved during the events of the chapter itself Cortez the pirate king is awesome he's a lot like huff and puff where I feel like he can be pretty tricky if you don't know what to do specifically in the third phase of the fight where he has a bunch of different weapons pointed at you that can deal varying damage or even inflict Mario with the status element the text to making this easier is either using flurry to blow the enemies away or using Vivian's fire ejects though flurries blow away is much more ideal because it completely removes them from the field I don't know I think I just love Pirates as a person who got into one piece after I beat this game it's made me appreciate him more they even named him after a well-known Explorer from history Hernan Cortez I was really glad this guy ended up becoming an ally after he defeated him too he's the only chapter boss to turn over a new Leaf in this game by the way which makes me like him a lot more and just makes him more unique King Ali the final boss in Paper Mario the origami King was very creative the way Ali turns into all the different Elementals that Olivia does the origami sumo fight with Bowser and Mario working together in the Final Phase being a mix of the ring puzzle and timing Action commands to guard against giant deadly attacks from Ali with each of these phases having a different theme that all fit well as a final boss theme some say the origami king battle systems aren't fun but this to say this boss fight didn't feel like an epic finish to this game is just a lie I was on the edge of my seat the entire time the fanged Fastener stapler is the last member of the Legion of stationary that Mario faces and the one responsible for keeping the origami soldiers from unfolding themselves it almost looks like a guard dog of sorts with its Staples resembling the sharp teeth of one beating him requires you to get him to run out of ammo by either timing or blocks against his attacks or using jump attacks again in as many hits as possible even if they don't do that much damage and my God the theme for this boss it's the most metal thing I've ever heard in a Mario game and I love it if you couldn't tell by now I love when guitars are made focused in video games OST and that's probably because I play the guitar myself I challenge you to not head bang to this part of stapler song it's it's impossible not to [Music] I hope the composers for this game got paid well General guy Paper Mario 64's fourth chapter boss is so great the way he takes himself so seriously as a general when he's in charge of guarding a toy box and uses a toy shopping cart as his main weapon in battle is Peak irony I love it so much the way the fight goes is very fitting for a general of his caliber he sits in the back lines for the first couple phases forcing his soldiers to deal with Mario before he takes the stage his true Shy Guy nature of running around like a coward comes to play after you defeat him too it's just such a Charming fight thrown through dupless is definitely one of the most memorable bosses and characters in general from Paper Mario this prank loving dupla ghost is the one responsible for turning everyone in Twilight down into pigs at first glance he feels like a pushover Guardian for the crystal star but pulls one of the craziest twists in a Mario game I think I've ever seen he switches places with Mario in the middle of the battle causing Mario to lose his identity and turn into a shadow the rematch has you fighting him still using Mario's appearance as well as him using Mario's Partners as Aid you can just tunnel hit dupless to make this fight easier but to make things more interesting you you can attack the partners instead forcing dupless to cycle through everyone to give the fight more variety and added difficulty it was definitely a treat to see dupless continue to play small roles in the future of the game's story too like turning into ZIP code or helping Beldum and Maryland in the Palace of Shadow this little Gremlin never fails to make me smile man I love lava piranha this long-tongued freak is definitely my second favorite design for a piranha plant enemy behind Petey I remember when going through Mount lava lava for the first time and kept seeing those putrid piranhas talking about how the reporting Mario's location of the boss obviously I knew the boss was going to be a piranha plant but all those reports got me more and more excited to see what this boss would actually look like they did not disappoint that's for sure the first phase seems pretty simple enough but it's just the Calm before the storm a fake out defeat before it emerges from the lava again now coated in fire in the boss theme turning much more intense compared to the first phases almost laid-back tone this second phase really tests your battle preparedness too because unless you have the ice power badge equipped you are not going to be able to do jump attacks on this thing at least Sushi still has her squirt ability and the game gives you a lot of snowmen dolls to do or more damage than normal I understand the water during more but ice the Pokemon rules don't work on this thing apparently granted that's probably a good thing because if it only water worked on him the swipe would be borderline impossible Paper Mario 64's chapter 7 boss the crystal King is as cool as they come both literally and figuratively his boss theme used to be my favorite boss theme in the Paper Mario series until origami King came out same with his design too the floating eyes and the crown of an invisible body he's just so awesome to me the fight with the crystal King isn't a cakewalk either dude's got 70 HP can leave a free status on Mario and can heal himself that clone attack still messes with me too am I crazy or is there literally no way to tell which one is the real one they all look the same where is the difference even the setting you beat him in is breathtaking those northern lights in the sky atop a Snowy Mountain snow areas were never my all-time favorite tomorrow games but the Crystal Palace really stuck out for me it's very good stuff scissors the Dual blooded duelist is without question the best modern Paper Mario boss at last in my opinion the level of intensity this fight brings to the table is crazy it's scissors for crying out loud the natural enemy to the Paper Mario Universe one head from the sky game over you're able to jump over his attacks but there will be times where scissors tries to mess with their jump timing with fake out charges before actually going for the move excellent theme to it as well probably my third favorite amongst the Legion of stationary with Tate being the first and Stabler being the second it's still so impressive to me how the origami King team managed to make boss fights against office supplies so fun but it probably would have been more fitting if scissors was the last boss fight and some stapler since scissors are technically more dangerous to paper than staplers are I think raw is my favorite non-chapter boss in all of Paper Mario I think one of the big reasons I liked him so much was because from the get-go we knew this guy was strong and he was implied to be the glitzville endgame boss with each fight you went through in the glitz split getting you closer and closer to taking on the champ and getting me more excited as I did each of them and when you finally reach him you're greeted with the best theme in Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door the way the official soundtrack for this battle actually has the noises of a crown cheering was the best way to make this fight feel like an actual cage match the great guitar riffs raw doing all this trash talking and a lot of his attacking what was looking like an actual wrestler it's the best Bowser's final stand in the original Paper Mario is still my favorite Bowser boss in the set of games I guess in this sense you really can't top the original Huff the way the star Spirits are always fighting alongside you in this battle every time you need to weaken Bowser is probably my favorite part of this fight it's not like the crystal Stars they're pure hearts where they're just kind of one and gone after breaking the big bad's barrier now the start Spirits have to keep showing up because that's how strong Bowser is this time his attacks just do so much damage and can poison you the theme that plays in the second phase oh chef's kiss that's how you do a final boss game right there I know it might sound like a bit of a cop-out to put a Bowser fight so high but I think he earns it he really wants to win no matter what this fight really stands out to me compared to the other boss fights in Paper Mario because of that the Invincible tuba blubber how can you not love this big oaf if you say you don't you're lying and you know it I just love the mystery surrounding this guy's fight Mario learning he has to take on his supposed Invincible enemy whose power is said to be almost on par with Bowser himself and the fact that you would take such a fall on so early in the game was both terrifying yet invigorating only to learn the secret behind his Invincible bodies not having a heart with his heart being locked away at the bottom of a windmill and being the true boss to this chapter all along greeting us with a hilarious yet strangely epic theme upon the battle starting I feel like this theme can be played at a party in the 1920s and people would be dancing to it like no tomorrow this is another fight where if you don't know what to do and when to do it you're gonna be in trouble homie's got an attack that deals 12 damage unless you have bow in the field to make you invisible you have to use her against this move at least a couple times or the fight is straight up on winnable due to the heart being so resilient having 50 HP which is really high at the time of the story beating the heart wasn't enough though you actually have to fight tubble blubber and his heart together for phase two which he thinks is his strongest form but in actuality the two of them reuniting no longer makes him invisible so he's taken down pretty easily in both a charming and funny way even after all the bad things he did to the booze in this area of the Mushroom Kingdom I couldn't help but feel a bit bad for him after the fight was over the way he just started crying and revealed how he was a really sensitive guy trapped in a big body such a great boss and a great chapter to boot last but not least Paper Mario the Thousand Years final boss the Shadow Queen I know this might sound like another cop out to put her this high but it's pretty deserved let's be honest with ourselves here after how much of a cakewalk the Thousand Year Door was in the boss Department having a final boss be this challenging was both surprising yet very welcomed by many even just the build up to this fight was nuts the way the queen just destroys grotis like it's nothing Peach's body being successfully possessed and Mario having to actually do damage to her physical body in order to save her was so crazy to me as a kid and it's still pretty crazy to think about about as an adult the Princess Mario had been saving on and off for years is the final boss in one of his games this has been the only time a Mario game has done this and I think that's what makes it so special yeah it could be cool in theory to fight Peach again but at the same time having another Peach fight even in a non-rpg style Mario game would make it the Shadow Queen fight a lot less special in my opinion the theme for the boss being so fast paced for the majority of it adding the sense of urgency to the battle making you feel like you need to take this demon out as soon as humanly possible or the entire world and Peach will be lost forever all this really gets you dialed into the fight in the best ways possible I'd like to thank that one day intelligent systems can make another final boss as good as the Shadow Queen even if the next Paper Mario title isn't a traditional RPG because let's face it it probably won't be man this was a tough list to rank but I still had a blast doing it nonetheless let me know in the comments below who your favorite or least favorite bosses are from the Paper Mario series I'm curious to see how y'all's list would differ from mine of course if you did enjoy this video be sure to leave a like down below it helps out a ton but for now I will see you guys next
