[Music] [Music] a massive grid of gt4 machinery awaits the signal to fire engines for round number eight of the pirelli gt4 america championship season here at iconic road america this 14 turn four mile circuit has for decades proven to be a favorite among teams drivers and spectators alike with its fearsome combination of speed and technicality hello everyone my name is ryan marine we've got calvin fish joining me in the booth amanda music will be patrolling the pit lane for us getting ready for the second of two races this weekend for pirelli gt4 america and it figures to be a fantastic show as it was yesterday calvin race one was a barn burner it was spectacular certainly billy oberlin put on a bit of a clinic there at the end in the bimwell bmw bmw so strong here at road america but for those final podium positions it went right down to the warren expect more of the same today just look at that great field of cars and standing amongst it is amanda busek well a couple updates on the grid we had a gt america race just prior to this one and a couple of cars were involved in an incident from oil being on the track it took out two of the ren tech entries the 89 mercedes as well as the 39 they do have the number 79 it's their first week and they will race here again this weekend gray newell was also involved in that his aston martin will be on the track it's a separate chassis so they are good to go but i like to point out this cars their first weekend racing adam adelson and elliott's gear elliott is in the car right now the 120 was also involved in that gt a gt america uh kind of spin down but uh elliot said that only cosmetic issues this is a race car we are good to go and then one other thing i'm going to pan that camera up to the skies there's going to be another battle that we're going to have here today guys the teams are looking at their wet tires just in case but a lot of drama to kick off this race but i think it'll be a good one oh boy we've been dodging rain showers it seems like since we first arrived at the circuit on friday calvin and it's definitely had its fair share of impact this race 60 minutes there is a pit stop in a driver change but no planned tire change per the regulations however if we get some rain that could throw everything up into the air yeah certainly could and uh with the format on race 2 is effectively the higher graded driver so the pros are starting this race so conditions are perfect right now if we should see some rain i'll be down at the amps to try and deal with it and bring the car home it's a fantastic circuit and let's get a high-speed tour of it with john halen and right motorsports this is the porsche track preview [Music] hi this is jan helen with the porsche track preview here at road america coming on to the front straightaway getting ready to start a lap here at road america long straight away and a long ways from the start finish line into turn one always makes for a lot of good action at the at the start of the race sixth gear 162 mile an hour down the fourth gear really fast turn one using all of that exit curb really fun corner and then into turn three laid on the brakes down the second gear and then getting ready to set up for a really good exit onto that long back straightaway into turn five getting ready to go under the bridge here and this straightaway is all about setting up for a late deep breaking into five lots of um good overtaking opportunities here hard on the brakes at the 200 sign sixth gear all the way down the first sharp left hander and then up the hill into turn six very short tap on the brake here car gets really light on the uh on the exit of the corner and then into turn seven just a short lift back to power and then flat out down the hill into turn eight breaking right at the 200 down the second gear using a little bit of that curve at the apex and then ready to enter the carousel long sweeper right fourth gear really fast really fun here in this porsche gt3r with all that downforce and then exiting the carousel setting up to uh to enter the kink kink is uh one of those famous corners here in america really fast fifth gear 137 miles an hour at the apex and then down into canada corner braking's going to be right at the 300 again a good place to uh to make some moves hitting that apex curb and then again using all of that curve on the exit and then setting up for billy mitchell super front corner blind on the entry and then using all that curb on the exit late on the brakes for turn 14 making sure we set up for a good exit and then on to the front straightaway and that was a lap here at road america nearly 40 cars set to go here for the second race of the weekend they're all gt4 cars but we do have three different classes competing within parallel gt4 america broken down by driver experience level pro-am silver and am and calvin as we saw yesterday because these cars are all the same there's no difference between a pro-am gt4 car and an amg t4 car for instance they start to play with one another and it makes things interesting and a bit confusing for all involved it does certainly from a championship perspective try and uh keep your thoughts on the big pitch of who you're fighting against but raises the races they won that overall win and i actually saw matt travis last night they had the first uh race this year the championship leaders in the uh prime category he and jason hartney said yeah it's disappointing to finish off the podium but we were going for it felt we had a p2 result potentially there and jason got out shuffled at the end but he said i want overall win so that's the mentality from one of the championship leaders they start deep in the field today we'll talk more about the nola sport team a little bit later but 12th starting spot for jason hart you see the starting positions flashing up onto the screen the front row features the rapid greg leofouge on pole and yesterday's race winner bill auberlin will start alongside he and james walker picked up the overall win and bill auberlin really starred in the second stint of that race he did i mean he fought his work at the front and then just took off he's in a different zip code by the end of the race certainly so uh he's had so much success here over the years uh won another gt4 race in a different championship earlier in august so it's been a happy hunting ground for bill and he's going to try and get that lead and try and stretch it and give james walker his uh teammate as much work uh at least a man works and let me put it that way to to do with uh once he gets behind the wheel but lefouge on the pole by 4 10. that's a significant margin in this form of competition that car is well hooked up this weekend and his teammate sean quinlan swept both the gt america rounds this weekend earlier that will be a car to keep an eye on the bright orange car starting on pole amanda also highlighted the premier racing car making its first start in pirelli gt4 america we've seen adam edelson so far this season racing in the single driver gt america powered by aws championship but now this weekend branching out into the sprint x format as well and his co-driver eliot skier will start this race elliott is a guy who had a lot of promise and looked poised to have a big breakthrough in his career about a half a decade ago and has entered into a dry period since then but this might be that second chance he's been waiting for he showed his pace right away this weekend he has and i remember him bursting on the scene pat long one of the porsche factory pilots was a big kind of mentor to him at that stage of his career and he has disappeared a little bit that could happen young drivers if the financial support isn't there you kind of disappear off the radar and then it's tough to get back into this paddock but certainly putting that car on the top three rows of the grid is a really a testimony to the skill and speed of that young man let's talk about the nova score angle to this it's been jason hart and matt travis's year to date it seems like they're consistently running at the front but here at road america the going hasn't been so easy for that team problems it seems like with the uh with the porsche maybe not quite being up to pace compared to the bmws in particular really you look at the front of this grid and it's the front engine cars that have really come to the fore with the bmw the aston also in the mix and mercedes too but it's the bmws in particular calvin that appear to have a pretty big edge especially on these long straightaways and there's several of them at this track yeah you have three big acceleration runs here one coming off this final corner as we get ready for the launch up over the start finish line down into turn one then the moraine sweep down turn five and also through the kettle bottoms into turn 12 canada corner so the bmw's definitely the mark to beat porsche a bit on the back foot but that doesn't stop some of them certainly hoping for at least a podium run here this morning just a great mixture of machinery throughout this gt4 field but it is a pair of bmw m4 gt4s that lead the field to the green the pole sitter in the orange machine gregory leofoosh from stephen cameron racing bill oberlin will start alongside then the kenton cook driven b sport racing aston martin and the rentec motorsports mercedes of guy cosmo in row number two field under the control of leah foose now waiting for the green flag and it flies we are racing in road yesterday where america had some abs issues with that b sport aston martin he gets to the inside of auburn as they get down towards that break zone dream start for kenton cook he's on the attack early trying to slide into the second spot to the inside of bill auberlin it's side by side further back kitten cook though has grabbed that spot at least for the moment single file for the first three or four cars but further back look at this big scrap at the back half of the top 10. yeah really fighting out there through turn three you see a lot of dust kicking up that's some oil drives from some incidents earlier in this weekend and one of the cars that was involved was the 39 car and uh guy cosmo should have been starting from the second row of the grid we do not see that car in action as the leaders hit down into that brake zone for turn five look at this move to the inside here that's jason hart on the attack the points leader in pro-am didn't have a great qualifying effort starting outside the top ten but an early mover here in the opening lap of this race chad mccombie piloting the pf racing pink ford mustang that you see at the back of that shot he's had a nice start to the race as well chasing down skier but like i say as i say that he goes off the track and now comes under attack yeah he does a little bit of a rough ride there is the exit he turns seven certainly these tires are not quite into their sweet spot yet but they should be getting loaded up here through this long duration carousel right hand turner and as you come out of here you're heading down to the king kyle marcelli is giving chase in the blue mercedes just behind the chad mccombie driven mustang pretty much single file through the carousel now into the kick for the first time one of the fastest most treacherous corners anywhere in north american motorsport yeah certainly keeps you on your toes throughout the course of this race certainly as the tires start to degrade a little bit over the course of the 60 minute event mandatory pit stop no tire change during that so you've got to certainly manage that for these starting drivers jason hart in the 47 cayman for nola sport trying to go the long way around kyle marcel he can't get it done in canada corner now slots back in line continuing to pursue looking to gain as many spots as possible to protect that championship lead but the battle up at the front of the pack is heating up kent and cook showing the muscle of the aston martin platform right on the rear wing of sean quinlan out of turn 14. yeah but watch this down this straight away the fuse stretches the gap there a little bit and it gives billy oberlin the run on kenton cook gets to his flank trying to get back over on him to try and uh take that line away as they enter turn one really high speed here brush of the brakes on the feather the throttle and planted there join up over the uh track limits there a little bit the straight-line speed of the m4 has been nearly irresistible throughout the weekend whether in probably gt4 america or within the gt4 class of gt america powered by aws that helps propel bill auberlin up to the second spot kitten cook was close on the exit to turn three but you can see the difference there in top line speed between the two marks yeah and watch that third bmw fourth in orion right now coming off a p2 finish yesterday john capestro de bets the auto technique bmw has been very strong here this weekend as well and they've been great all weekend long had a great stint from his co-driver tom capizzi yesterday that set him up to get that good finish one day ago there is jcd behind the wheel of the pro-am class number 52 bmw look at ken and cook there really flies and roll some speed there through the apex of turn seven auburn a little bit of protection mode also trying to uh distract our leader greg leofooze as he turns into the uh turn eight apex if there is an arrogability around this track for the bmw it seems to be here in the second sector which puts a bit more emphasis on the handling versus the raw speed and that's where kitten cook is able to close in but then the gap stretches out in this section here through the king who kettle bottoms into the run to canada corner yeah it's a real chess match for kenton here i believe with the straightaway speed of these bmws and it's not made any easier by jcd being right on his rear bumper right now and filling those mirrors getting a report from amanda that the ccr racing bmw cole carollo tim barber driving that machine they have made an unscheduled pit stop here in the early stages so problems there from a contender in race one yesterday here's an internet scene battle between a couple of porsches jerome blinkemon in the back black swan racing porsche the 54 car out in front and he's got spencer pompelli giving chase how cool is that to the best sports car drivers in the world literally battling out deep inside the top ten that's how competitive this class in this championship is holding on to the tenth spot and it's pompey behind but pompeli falling into the clutches of nick velante in one of those beamers just behind galante on the attack back up front we go and we see that kitten cook has dropped the third spot now so it's bmw one two three oh he's just getting shuffled back but i think if he had clean air and wasn't fighting these bmws he may be the fastest car on the racetrack but very difficult with the dynamic of this circuit with these long stretches and with that aston martin really good handling car good braking car but does not quite have the straightaway speed to compete and we talk about how good jerome blakemolen is and spencer papelli is but it's elliott's skier in the top-placed porsche that gives you an idea of just how talented that youngster is just waiting on the opportunity he gets one this weekend and he's delivering with a top five run in the early stages well that's a great point there that he is ahead of two of the most established sports car drivers in the gt field here this weekend and uh this young man eliot ski has just done a tremendous job there the ecm leading chad mccombie coming down into that turn eight brake zone we talked about the big brake zones down into term one down into five and twelve but this is a legit passing opportunity too you can sneak it down the inside there let's turn eight at the end of hurry downs leads you into this corner here nine and ten is how it's listed we call it the carousel long duration you gotta be super patient and a lot of camber that you have to deal with that drops away from the apex jason hart they're eating up that curve on the outside to really roll a big radius through the kink the car really working well but no the sport always seems to have a good handling car for their drivers all throughout this field the different classes intermixing and there is the amp leaders that oldest point porsche i believe uh thomas merrill driving that car and russell walker right there actually giving chase so it's the 619 leading 46 merrell in the 619 walker in the 46 sonoma score running second in that pairing there's that battle right there on screen for the m class lead and they're running high up the order too this is right in the middle of this pack we've seen the strength of some of these am entries at various times with strong runs inside the overall top ten from time to time the fact that jason toby grahovic right now who led this race yesterday before we got around him and then some kind of uh differential or transmission issue that created the dnf which really hurts them in their championship standings but that's just how competitive the field is here elliot skier leading this train of cars he runs in the fifth spot overall the top five all are pro and class cars behind him though is chad mccombie in the silver class ford mustang from pf racing haven't seen them in the championship much this year great to have them back chad of course a name if you're familiar with stock car racing you drove for the petties for a long time in the nascar cup series plenty of success in the lower nascar levels including arca as well but in recent years his transition to sports car racing mx-5s uh in a couple of different championships and then has got tied in with multimatic which helped to develop this mustang and it seems like whenever he gets plugged in it's just plug and play it is and he and stephen mclaren in fact won a championship together back in i think it was 2014 so he is really quick does a really solid job great mentor for james pesc at the same time james driving the blue aston that took a peek to the inside of the bmw that you saw on the screen down that's the heart of racing team the other chassis that this team runs in gt america earlier today had some issues and some contact that led to dropping fluid on the track ultimately that brought out a yellow for several cars spinning in that fluid but this is one of those teams that is fortunate enough to have dedicated chassis for each of the two championships he competes in you heard amanda's report earlier red tech not quite so fortunate they lost two cars in the crash earlier this morning in the gt america race and it's a double whammy because now they can't participate here in this race look at colin mullin aboard there we talk about young drivers returning to the scene here colin mullin coming off a sprint x silver championship with gerard andretti last year i haven't seen him much early in the season but he's back and very much in the thick of things you talk about the talent here you've got ian james former champion andrew davis multiple champion over the years and young colin mullin all fighting out there deep in the pack everywhere you look there's a name that you'll recognize that has a championship sitting somewhere on the cv christian shim shack just behind the murillo racing orange mercedes amg gt4 also a very accomplished driver in his own right he and kitty murillo have proven to be a potent pairing one here yesterday with uh kenny and that's their fourth win on the year so they're extending their silver class championship lead at the same time late on the break there free and james trying to find his way around nick valante will turn that car over to james clay the team principal there with bimmerworld this is just outside the top ten overall as they run tyler maxson just made the pass on galante and tyler's a great story too he and harry godsack are teaming up for st racing this weekend first time they've been together in this car that's the car normally driven by ryan eversley and joe rubow but they had a rouble had a conflict so they couldn't run this weekend gave the opportunity for gotsacker to come back and for maxin to step into gt cars after beginning his career racing primarily touring cars yeah a very impressive young man won the tcr class last year and we expected some fireworks from that pairing this weekend unfortunately gotsacker got hit early in the run yesterday on the opening lab and retired the car so trying to bounce back here with a solid run ten minutes gone by keep in mind we do have that mandatory pit stop with driver change no tire changes though that will be coming up right around the halfway point in the race keep an eye on the action on the track but while we do so it's here from amanda well guys you're talking about that 35 car of the conquest west entry i was talking to colin mullin it's in the car right now but i was talking to makai stevens earlier this weekend they are planning to race the rest of the season but for them to even get these seats it was actually a shootout between six drivers they were the best of six to get these seats for this team just speaking with mikaya a little more it was a childhood dream of his to be a race car driver and finally let out the word when he was 22 years old said he googled how to be a race car driver and decided to go to the skip barber school but here he is living out his dream right there uh on a podium for the moment in that silver class but what a story guys it's a great story conquest racing a team with a huge pedigree in sports car racing as well as open wheel racing eric batchelor the team principal former indy car driver in his own right oh boy at the front of the field it's uh all of a sudden greg leopough's coming under attack bill auberlin right there on the back bumper let's keep an eye on bill race winner yesterday yeah greg was there a little bit defensive there down into the brake zone for turn three took the middle of the road there as bill tries to widen that arc and get that exit speed and john capestro de bets hanging right with them kenton cook in the shadows of those bmws trying to hang tough here very defensive from leo fouge there guarding the inside line that will compromise the exit we'll see if bill auberlin can take advantage sean capestro duvets like you say watching waiting trying to see if those two up ahead will open up a chance for him to try and pounce and kitten cook's not going anywhere either in the b sport racing aston yeah this is where the aston martin is really quick there look at his speed rolling through there has nowhere to go without he's going to run over the top of jcd auburn looks to the inside late on the breaks abs kicking in side by side for third further back hitting cook has to back out of it not a lot of room there on corner exit that was tight just a whisk between those could two cars otherwise the 52 machine could have got turned there great driving by canton really good driving all around these are four season pros at the front of this field adam adelson will be taking over the alien sphere driven car that was in the back of that shot running in fifth but it's a four-way fight for the lead top four in pro-am all running right together here coming into canada corner well one concern for these bmws not quite as warm as it was yesterday but we're sneaking up into the ambient mid 80 range so that is a concern for the bmw you can get those cars too hard to that safety mode with the engine and kick back the timing a little bit and lose power so you think for billy aubrey who wants to get that fresh air that clean air on the front end of that bmw appears on that subject it does sound like that was the issue for tim barber and cole carollo we mentioned they pitted earlier i got another bmw that made an unscheduled pit stop just a moment ago with john miller pitting his car that he shares with chandler hull amanda reporting a misfire is the problem on that machine so we'll keep an eye on that as the battles continue to rage all around this 14-turn track well this is a good one nick gallante really hung on to a strong quality run here yesterday but this is the leaders here look at that auburn all over the exit curbing there trying to find a way around greg lefouge and does that give john capestro dubetz a chance to pounce he's right there in the tire tracks kitten cook trying to keep pace as well with the three leading bmws in his aston martin he and brian putt the team principal there with b sport racing got their first ever win together going back to the last round of the championship at vir and they are hungry for more jcd the third car in this bmw train right now could have the fastest car but i wonder how much auburn's lap times being compromised by greg's defensive maneuvers here we see it coming down into term one leaf totally entitled to take that narrow entry there auburn tries to roll speed around the outside and just runs out of room a little bit up and over the uh exit curbing there dust is kicking up able to keep it pointed straight however here comes kitten cook again taking a peek at the bottom of her redowns into turn number eights now into the carousel they go once again kitten cook has some speed in these tight corners calvin but not enough power to do anything with it it seems yeah look at that really able to keep it tight on the road there this is going to be a bit of an issue here oh that was lucky just enough timing there i'm not sure if that was uh chandler hull possibly i think that is the whole cooler car that we've chronicled having boost issues looks like able to pull that car off the track real shame for them but does not impede the progress of the top four which continue latched together like a freight train so leo foose can get a little bit of a gap does he have more pace if he's not under pressure a lot of question marks out there in terms of the face of the three bmws who in fact is the fastest of the three right now maybe kent and cook with the clean air could be the fastest of all of these four cars over in terms of the overall lap time and the thing is all of this gets turned on its head in the next 10 20 minutes when the pit window starts to open up and these drivers give way to the ams in the pro am pairing john capestro dubenz pushing bill auberlin along [Laughter] trying to use the theory uh eight tires are faster than four and trying to close in on the race leader greg leafous back down to amanda well someone counting those down those minutes to the driver change as a teammate of kenton cook and brian you got the win in virginia when you find success like that how does that motivate you for more yeah it was really exciting for us you know we we put the program together last year and we had we had some great results ken's been a phenomenal co-driver coach the team's been really great and finally getting a win um it just ratcheted everything up for us it was that sense that hey everything we've been putting in is is getting us to where we want to get to this weekend we've had we've had a good weekend uh the bmw's the bop uh it gives them a lot of uh you know trap speed they're quick so it's hard to pass but kenton's getting everything out of the car that he possibly can we're hanging in so uh hopefully the three cars ahead of us somebody makes a mistake we get an opportunity to move up a little bit when he passes over to me i just got to try to keep the wheels under it and and keep us moving but uh yeah it's exciting and we're having a ball good luck thank you for chatting with brian you saw it on the screen there ian james finally able to find his way around nick gallante that is for 11th over or sorry 13th overall 11th in pro am this is the fight for third here with kenton cook still trying to chase down john capestro dubetz hasn't been able to do anything with him just yet one other drive i'd like to give a call to tom dyer quietly running inside the top ten with an eighth place overall result thus far seventh in class that's for the carbon team he'll be turning that car over to mark siegel but doing a great job in the audi right there coming through the picture yeah no real surprise that team has really been one of the dominant teams in gt4 competition here in north america over the last two or three seasons so uh steve dinan who runs the operation great engineer and tom dyer is one of those drivers who slipped through the net a little bit has had some opportunity but boy is he quick ian james has mentioned made that pass on nick gallante now andrew davis able to follow him through here comes colin mullin the silver mercedes trying to make his way around two he'll have to go the long way through turn 14 tucks back in line trying to get the big jump out of the final corner look at that shim shack there coming off a win yesterday can't believe he's having to fight this hard this deep in the pack takes a peek to the outside of the fellow mercedes runner colin mullen conquest racing versus marilla racing down the front straight away great run out of turn 14 for christian shim shack side by side up ahead as nick galante uses that horsepower of the bmw to power right around the outside of andrew davis who's now forced to go back to work yeah that's frustrating you you work someone over for two or three laps you finally get the track position and he just blows by you again that's tight that's really going to hurt andrew davis in terms of his exit speed here comes shimshack he's cleared mullen now he's got a big run he's in the slipstream as well two cars in front of him punching a giant hole in the air to propel that orange mercedes through the gap colin mullin keeping a close eye out of his windshield too this right now is down for 14th 15th 16th and 17th in the overall order here comes davis around the outside wow what a battle this is rubbing fenders there on the climb up to turn six shim shack knew where to go without going to get ugly if he's tries to force us the issue there wisely backs out of it but it's still side to side davis to the flank of galante late on the breaks there for the fast right-hander that's turn number seven and he's able to get through now here comes moen looking to pounce as does shimshack now trying to fight his way pascalante davis needs to absolutely nail this carousel turn and through the kink otherwise he's going to be vulnerable again when they get to the cattle bottoms and that big run down towards canada corner just over 20 minutes into this hour-long race davis does have a bit of breathing room and galante's got his mirrors full of a very hungry christian shim shack pokes the nose out briefly thinks about making the move into the king then falls back in line didn't appear to get a great run through and now he's vulnerable for colin mullin to come on the charge yeah mullen's having a great run here really feisty good to see but that was a great job by andrew davis in terms of executing those corners and mullet finally gets that pass done again and gets a rose shim shack colin mullin just wrapped up the first week of his sophomore year at the ohio state university taking the weekend off to come up here to road america right in his natural environment had his hands full there as he dropped a wheel at the apex yeah billy mitchell bend that's a tough one he just you'd all on the road and a little bit more and just kind of hook the car there take another look at it this was i think that drag race earlier are we back to live pictures here hard to say i think this is a live shot is shim shank going defensive here he's got a porsche taking a peek to his outside look at the ground davis has already been able to put between himself and galante since making that pass and he needs to as well we know how strong the bmw is about to be coming down the marine sweep on the run to turn five that's what makes me think that kenneth cook here fourth car in line right now could do to these bmws if he could just get the track position get to the twisty part of this circuit and make hay with it i think he's got the quickest race car potentially but just can't do anything with he's got a roadblock right in front of him this is the top four once again still leah foose he has not succumbed to the pressure from bill auberlin just yet kitten cook trying to find some weakness in this bmw freight train up ahead give him credit he's been about the only one who's been able to keep up with these leading bmws throughout the course of the weekend they'll be this loud but one more than that pit window will open but expect these pros to stay in the car as long as they possibly can try and extend this run to really get the maximum speed out of the their run here today and give their partners a little bit less work to do just a beautiful section of this racetrack you're going through the woods here with trees on either side then into heavy breaking for canada corner lots of runoff to use here that wasn't always the case calvin no it wasn't and uh they'll use all of it a little bit more it really i mean there's track limits in place here if you get too crazy and kind of in a different zip code they will beat you on it but uh it kind of kind of pleases itself if you get too far out there you're really not going any quicker anyway so but i just love the fact you use the racetrack and that little bit more just trying to find the grip find the radius through the turn let's give a call to thomas merrill that's the am leader there in the 619 porsche and he is giving yesterday silver class winner christian shimshack everything he can handle he is he's really quick he's been doing a ton of racing like oh look at this side by side with the leaders auburn gets to the flank leah foosh had a little bit of understand there through the middle of the corner nearly gets into the side of overland watch this that could open up the door for jcd to slide it down the inside there he goes gianca pestra dubats with the red nosed bmw takes a peek to the inside of bill auberlin can't get the job done somehow they come out of turn three all pointed in the right direction it's still greg leofooge at the head of this freight train what a battle this is just great racecraft there by bill oberlin trying to fight for the lead recognizing that the 52 machine was downright inside but giving him enough room but still rolling speed through turn three to maintain p2 now we'll talk about how good the pros are in forever gt for america that he's well on display here kenton cook taking a peek to the outside for third place that big fall short he has to tuck back in behind the auto technic car john capestro dubetz able to hold him off once again we talk about managing these tires and giving something for your co-driver to work with this battle is being fierce you'd have to think these drivers are really a bit using up the grip and those pirelli piece arrows that's a great point again no tire changes during the pit stop window the only thing you can do is the driver change possibly you can do a tire pressure adjustment here's some contact further back in the field and around goes the seven yeah that was um jason alexandris [Music] i think that's right and gibbons with the spin i believe looks like everyone's able to continue on from that well as i say that we go full course yellow and this comes at an interesting time here with the pit window being where it is so calvin this rule works where effectively the pit window gets moved back to begin just after the restart correct it does it gets shifted so it's still a 10 minute window swill i think what they do they go back to green then the pit window opens so you got 10 minutes from that point but what it's done it's really erased a lot of the gaps that have been created at the front end of this field and bring a lot more players into the mix it should shake things up quite a bit once we do restart so yes pits are closed as you said until the green flag comes out one flying lap but then they open back up again and then the 10-minute pit window will commence so unfortunately for the seven car i think that was gibbons who started that machine spun around the nolah sport entry and stuck in the kitty litter that is leaving the pits right there the ccr team tfb machine cole carollo tim barber the drivers we've talked about them having some issues that might have been heat related early on we're well down the order unfortunately just in the time to knock on down another lap i'm not sure they stayed on the lead left with their drama so far today cost you a lot of time 40 seconds essentially down pit lane the speed limit there compared to green flag racing well i'll say i don't mind a chance to catch my breath that's a wild one oh it was frantic and that's what probably gt4 america has had as its calling card it seems like this sprint x format since its inception has produced some wild racing and the thing that's so interesting and compelling i think is when we we do have those driver changes the whole complexion of the race changes with it it really does when you look at someone like the championship leaders in the pro-am class jason hart sitting seventh overall six in class matt travis really has a ton of speed so when he gets back in i really think that car potentially could move further forward particularly as they're all packed up together so you expect majority of their leaders to try and use this 10 minute pit stop window to keep their pros in the cars extend the gap one more time but for nola sport they have the option of bringing in jason art in pretty quickly if they choose to do that and the reason is his co-driver matt travis although he's the yam in an am lineup oftentimes has the pace of of some of the pros and that adds to the flexibility same can be said for the silver class cars where both drivers are rated identically and so in theory there shouldn't be much performance delta between the two yeah exactly so mccombie turning over to pesc uh max and currently in the second position in the silver class aboard the 28 st racing bmw harry gotsack is gonna take his turn behind the wheel today so he'll have speed it is interesting looking at where the silver cars are placed and although you might say all the way back 17th overall fourth in class for marilla racing this isn't looking like a good day well the cars running ahead of them in class are not full season cars right we've got pf racing making a their first appearance of the season as the leader uh the st racing pairing the car is full-time but maxson and gotsacker are not and in third is the brand new car from conquest west and colin mullin and makai stevens so effectively it's nothing lost for marilla racing even if they should finish behind those three yeah that's right so a lot of permutations going on right now i think i misspoke when i said it was jason alexandris that's not the case so my apologies there i think ty clark would have been the one to start that car same team running two mclaren 570s gt4s this weekend uh we do expect to go green this time by and then the pit window will open up the subsequent lap and indeed there's the confirmation we're waiting for lights off on the safety car and greg leafouge who has withstood all of the pressure bill auberlin can throw his way and that's maybe something we should ruminate on for a moment bill auberlin is not easily denied no if you can keep bill overland behind you for uh 25 minutes you're doing a great job league of luge may be not a name that's a household name in the same way that bill operlinsey is but seems like whatever he gets plugged into he's always right there at the pointy end and he and sean quinlan have proven to be a great pairing in this sprint x format over the last several seasons championship a couple of years ago he's already on it is leo fouge making the run out of turn 14 coming to the restart here auberlin though able to keep pace and looks like he's gaining gaining gaining down the front straightaway mike did a nice job there he got the jump i think auburn was trying to set him up and team up now he's picking up that big draft he's been in this position before almost the cut and pace trying to go to the flank here got to watch though of that steven cameron racing car does not have the grip to really get it turned so you gotta be factoring that in when you're on the outside going through that high speed corner look at kent and cook look to the outside of jcd down into turn three he's been there before can't make it stick this time drops back in line if we try and stay in that slipstream it stays leofoosh auberlin jcd and then kenton cook and elliott skier right there he's not going anywhere either no this is great for him he's really caught up this lead pack right now and uh further in the background you see the nola sport entry cars jason hart there is the seventh car in line we saw tom dyer under attack briefly from jerome leakable and i saw that black swan porsche pop out but had to stay in line so it's still outing in front of porsche in that fight in the overall order leaf picked up where he left off in terms of maintaining the gap at the front feeling the pressure this ski on and off through turn seven that opens up the door here chad mccombie took a peek to the inside it was covered off by elliott skier masterfully the 2015 porsche gt3 cup usa champion in its top class has done some other racing since then in touring cars and in gt cars but it's been a dry spell in recent years as we've talked about getting this opportunity with premier racing and what a ride he's giving that porsche fifth car in line great job by mckenna cook controls a big speed through the carousel that aston martin is absolutely hooked up puts it right on that white line and just keeps it there trying to use every bit of quartering performance of that aston to his advantage that's where the aston seems strong relative to the bmw's leahfuge has been able to lay out a gap this is about as much of a cushion as he's had all race long expect these top four to stay out on the racetrack will we see anyone hit the pit lane here pit window is open as you can see do we see the 47 car peel in early here he comes along with mccombie interesting so pf racing making the call nola sport making the call a few other takers as well looks like conquest is among them there are some late calls there uh smooth racing i think we saw kevin conway at the last minute electing to staying out pit lane about to become a busy place but it's still busy at the front of this field leah foose with the biggest lead he's had all race long and it's only six tenths of a second it is and uh that's important what they need they need this to stay green if there was a yellow right now in the middle of this pit stop window it would really backfire on these leaders they're staying out they're in the danger zone right now as we call it when other leaders have made their pit stop and you're staying out trying to make hay with a quick race car and a quick driver behind the wheel bill auberlin has been hunting much of this race but he's becoming the hunted here comes john capestro dubetz it looked like he had a run out of turn number three what will that manifest itself into coming down into the breaking zone of turn five meanwhile that's how long it takes to trundle down the pit lane here at road america a lengthy pit lane it is and the driver change underway jason hart giving way to matt travis yeah we're seeing some pretty uh good lap times cool corolla was uh got behind the wheel of the 22 car despite their problems a nice pit stop there just a tenth underneath the minimum 91 seconds is the minimum stop time you've got a one-second joker to work with if you didn't use it yesterday up front it's a bmw one two three leaf who's looking as comfortable as he has all day long as we get towards his pit stop would imagine he'll stay out there a little bit longer we got about a three to four lap window from when the uh pit stop window opened initially to work with probably three would be safe no more than that looks like oberlin was able to parry that thrust from john cabestro dubets holds on to the second spot but the fight's not over yet bill auberlin doing everything he can to keep the auto technic run bmw behind him and kenton cook still lying in weight waiting for his chance to pounce in the aston martin a lot of pressure on these cool drivers now getting ready to get strapped in oh look at kenan there he is just working over john capestro the bets in every way possible but just cannot find the door open for him elegant skier making the call to pit lane premier racing calling him in i think that is the tyler matson driven st racing bmw that also made the right hand turn into the pits you're right and there is the ccr team tfv car that's had all those issues leaving the pits and doing so right in front of the leaders so they'll have to contend with perhaps an ailing car certainly one that's not part of the lead battle perhaps here before this pit window comes to its conclusion you just know that auburn would love to wrestle this lead away from greg here at these last lap or two i think they've probably got a lab and a half before they're going to hit pit lane if they want to maximize the time here leaf auberlin john capenstro to bets kenton cook the top four it's a bit of a drop back then to dyer who runs now in the fifth spot for carbon it's been a nice quali quality run a bit on the quiet side for them but doing everything right to stay in contention harry godsacker climbing aboard the nct racing bmw after a solid opening stint from maxson in his first weekend at least in race trim behind the wheel of a gt4 machine yeah really nice run from him on that tcr championship with copeland motorsports and harry godzilla could jump behind the wheel he knows that team while st racing change about the top four it's been this close seemingly from the drop of the green even a restart couldn't change too much as far as how these cars are running but to my eye at least the stephen cameron racing car the race leader looks a little bit happier in terms of car balance greg lionfish was able to save something there that could be crucial when sean quinlan takes over yes for sure so the seven cars in sean gibbons out sam erwin now behind the wheel i think they made an announcement that pippa mann may be joining them for the eight-hour indie so it'd be great to see her in that sro competition it would be awesome to see i know she's got some experience running on that road course in uh some endurance club level racing in the past as we go full course yellow once again and this happens in the middle of the window i'm gonna rely on you cal how does this affect wow they gotta come in they can come in uh the pits stay open but it really uh would hurt them in terms of the cars slowing down i think there's a car hit the king potentially [Music] just down on the right of the screen that's i think the random vandals racing car paul sparta and al carter the drivers of that bmw they had a rough outing at nashville this is actually going to work out well for these leaders though because the other cars have already pitted they're probably going to have to overslow now with that caution there through the kink and come to a reduced pace so the time loss for these leaders will not be so extreme well this is a crucial time to get this done right and even though there's no tire change still executing on the driver change is an art form knowing when to release the car at the appropriate time to not run afoul of the minimum pit lane delta is crucial that comes down to execution from the team side is sean quinlan already a race winner today in gt america competition getting installed behind the wheel of his bmw 91 seconds is the minimum stop time i think these leaders could have had one more lap out there but that yellow flying right there it was a good call by all of those teams to uh come on in even if they were intending to do anyway and now the key is going to be executing should be no drama getting the driver change done in the time available but just as when you release the car how tight do you call it in terms of the data you got available now it goes to 119. it's released there goes james walker jr slightly behind so they should stay in the same order it looks like the steven cameron racing bmw followed by the bimwell car then the auto technique car and carbon right behind in fifth so i think they're the big winners in this because uh several of those that were running in front of them pitted earlier as you said this full course yellow has caused them to arrest their speed and that has allowed them to jump up a couple of positions also tim pappas actually even in front of that car that's black swan racing they also are going to be beneficiaries of the timing of that yellow yeah really nice start for them they're a tenth underneath the minimum i do not believe they used the joker yesterday so they should be fine all of those leaders within half a second to a second and a half of the minimum stop time so good execution there no change in the order now a lot of pressure on the less experienced drivers in these pro-am lineups they take over and when we do restart it's up to them to try and maintain what the pros were able to get at the start of this race we'll see who will crack under the pressure who will thrive with it [Music] i think that 52 cars a good shot at this win here today very very likely he's at good space quinlan as we said already swept the gt america races here this weekend james walker jr really quick and qualifying for yesterday's race did a good opening stint to turn it over to bill auberlin to uh claim their victory first overall win i believe won the class before i think that's right i haven't found anything to prove me wrong just yet so we'll go with that until told otherwise look at that the smooch racing toyota is another one to keep an eye on i think it was maybe 11th in line there uh kevin conway started that car it'll be john jezree to finish and he's had some really good performances this season qualified inside the top five overall at previous rounds and has run up towards the front that has emerged as the class of the amp class to this point of the season yeah we're trying to get clarification on that timing and scoring is showing as jesus starting the race and conway now in but we'll we'll get clarification on that but there's certainly been the team to beat in the m class just a really great performance with that toyota supra i'm waiting to see just how this all shakes out the motorsport usa car currently listed in the pits at the top of the scoring pylon i think that will shuffle down as we continue to circulate under the yellow conditions there is the safety crew at work addressing the issue for the random vandals bmw i was saying earlier they did not have a good weekend at nashville in gt america competition really no fault of their own they were hit and hit in an incident in the first race and couldn't race in the second one and we're so eager to put that behind them and have a good run back in really their natural environment this is where they've been racing most of the season but paul sparta wanted to do the street race didn't quite go according to plan but it's one of those new teams that's burst onto the season this year and they've got a nice mix of taking their racing seriously but also enjoying themselves along the way yeah it's a good team great to see some new energy in the paddock and uh they've been very much in the heat of the battle on many occasions so far this season 17 minutes left seems like we still have at least another laps worth of recovery to do before we can go back to green this is like you say the perfect scenario on day two of the weekend for the pro-am lineups that stayed out as long as they did maximizing their pros time in the car minimizing the less experienced drivers time in the car but assuming we do restart it's still going to come down to these ams that to settle the race and in a way that's really fitting i think because they are the ones that are there to support the series they're the ones footing the bill in many cases for these efforts and this is this is what they're here to do they're here to race and uh now it's up to them i think the timing of that yellow on that particular lap was crucial it happened towards the end of the lead lap if you're with me where the leaders were they're kind of coming down towards canada corner so they could duck into the pits pretty quickly if that had gone yellow early in the lab brian that could have really slowed that whole pack down the teams that had already pitted they would have been able to take advantage we could have a really shuffled line up here well here's one thing i am confused about because the motorsport usa car the 111 that's shown in the lead with ty clark driving is considerably ahead of the safety car they were in the pits there just a few moments ago and i'm not quite sure what the timing of that was but timing and scoring is showing them nearing canada corner right now and assuming that is the case and they can then come around and catch the tail of the field they'll basically have a full lap in hand on everybody else yeah we'll have to get some clarification on that i don't see any way that can be legitimate i'm puzzled as to how that worked out too but that's the situation as it stands at the moment we'll do our best to stay on top of that story meanwhile let's get an update from the pits and amanda well one team taking a look at this restart is the pairing of elon stodd and thomas merrill the toyota did get out in front of them the the ty clark and todd clark still yet to pit here but when you look at the weekend that you guys have had so far you finished second yesterday on the podium how's this opening weekend going for your team it's great for us we uh we've never done the sprint x with elaine before so and cameron racing as well so everyone's done a good job of just learning uh it's been a it's been a fun weekend to figure out where we're strong where we're weak where we can be better we've making the car better each a little better each session and that's the best it's been all all weekend long in that race so we were able to race well i was talking to your teammate prior to the race and he was pacing very stoic-like and he said it's worse being on this side what's your opinion 100 i'd much rather be behind the wheel and when we're behind the wheel we can control the outcome from here we can't do anything but worry about it thank you thomas he's kind of used to being out of control i suppose not not in firm control the car because he works as an instructor for the skip arbor racing school among other racing schools the usamg academy is another one and his uh his family has a long history of racing especially with porsches his parents both of them were pca club racers so a natural fit for him behind the wheel of a cayman here at road america this new program as amanda mentioned alongside ellen stadt for stephen cameron racing which has the race leader at least we think overall unless this is the race leader which we're still trying to figure out about he's still making his way around to catch the end of this field and we're hearing word that the officials believe he may be the uh leader right now and uh they're gonna wave the rest of the field around and then keep this one one car one-on-one car behind the safety car so that's gonna take us a while to do that but i'm not sure how that could possibly happen i mean he is one of the later cars to pit and do that pit stop i'm not sure how he could have possibly shuffled his way to the front i i would hate to speculate i guess it was involved in that incident remember so true deep in the pack and the leaders really you know were able to execute a normal race it doesn't like they were compromised too much yes it went full course yellow there for about three or four corners but that wouldn't have allowed this big overlap for someone coming from deep in the well race control has all the data they can sift through all that i'm sure that's exactly what they're doing plenty of time to do it while the cleanup continues for the random vandals bmw that brought out this yellow and as it stands it is todd clark who leads and basically has a lap in hand over the rest of the field and time starting to tick down quickly i think you're right it is going to be a time-consuming process if they are going to do this full field wave around to basically bring everyone back onto the same lap takes you about four minutes yeah at least under pace car speed it certainly does it maybe they'll go a little bit faster than that on the wave around but you got to communicate that with everybody to alleviate any of the confusion that might ensue you're not going to go full trot all the way around the track but uh does this look like the wave around is taking place i think so yeah they're going to get this done but then they gotta catch up and then complete the next lap it's gonna be less than five minutes to go the thing it does do though is it puts todd clark in the overall lead of this race and if we do get a restart then he is well in control of the am class it does appear to be kevin conway now back in 11th overall who is second in the class so we'll have 10 cars in between himself and that mclaren and it's probably an unenviable place to be if you're todd clark restarting this race with the top nine in pro-am restarting right behind you fighting for their class positions gotta go all the way back now it's harry gottsacker who leads in the silver class they were able to take advantage of when that yellow came out to grab the top spot in the pit stop shuffles they have one car the matt travis jason hart car in between them and second place kenny murillo in the murillo racing car the christian shim shack started chad mccombie makai stevens bryson mood the rest of the top five in silva yeah so the 72 camarillo they're the championship leaders still got a strong run going you know he's going to want to put the pressure on gotzek here when we have a little bit of time left on the board to go racing hopefully let's see if they can get their fifth win of the season so this will have everyone scratching their heads bit lame because i can't quite figure out how this has happened that makes two of us you're one of the late piss stoppers as well so we we checked on the pit stop uh information as well wasn't a brilliant pit stop about 95 seconds or so so it wasn't like they gained a ton of time there to leapfrog them around some cars so we'll figure it out well race control will figure it out if nothing else they're the ones with all the information and they know exactly what they're doing what they're looking for so they say that tom clark figured this out then uh i'm willing to believe it and maybe we can get more on this story from todd's co-driver ty clark well i think they're all still trying to figure it out as well i think ty is just as surprised as we are but based on the the the dropping of the yellows maybe that's how this all worked out is what they're assuming but being in this number one spot as you get back to the restart how cool is that for your team to experience sorry excuse me how unique is that for your team to experience it's pretty special you know we're uh we're really learning this track and learning the cars and so you know being up there is cool to see so your dad took over the wheel was there any information that you relate to him as you guys did the driver change i just told him hey you know keep it keep it on track keep driving fast and let's see what we can do well with a pack of gt4 cars behind him i'm sure he's gonna have to keep that one on track guys exactly so it's going to be a tough position to be in for this restart we're looking at just a couple of laps maximum of green flag running and a lot of desperate drivers looking to make some spots up here in a short amount of time and are basically going into this cold no one in these cars has done a green flag lap yet i suppose though those getting the wave around here they get a chance to at least feel things out a little bit something approximating green flag speed yeah and for quinlan he's trying to hustle around here and catch up to that one one one so there's a bit more time on the board but i don't think they're going to go green this time by because there's so many cars spread around the race circuit a safety car and uh the 111 car is just going through canada corner now so they'll probably get to them by the time we get to the start finish line but it's going to be another lap there they are so i think that leaves us with less than three minutes left i thought it was gonna burn about eight minutes to get this done as usual you're spot on that's why i leave all the complicated math to you know about that i think i'm just one bit more of a risk taker when it comes to that if we say that now we're going green oh boy here we go green flag waves and they got the word out to todd clark and he got a nice jump that's your overall leader an am class car from motorsport usa out in front sean quinlan james walker jr tom capizzi brian putt the rest of the top five they're all in pro am fighting for their own class positions well we got a bit of a gift there with a nice healthy lead going up into turn one let's see if he can handle the pressure now and bring it home exactly that great restart as well for quinlan he's got the advantage of having raced already today brian putt looking racing in the b sport racing aston martin right on the tail of yesterday's winner james walker jr yeah this is going to be a fascinating battle here to see who could dig deep and try and bring home this win here this this morning quinlan starting to reel in todd clark now the question becomes how much does todd want to fight this out of class car that does not affect their position within the am class this is then second third and fourth throw fifth into the mix as well in pro am running right behind still single file for now with james walker junior tom capizzi right there looks like a piece he's made the pass on walker that is for second in pro-am and kitten cook now trying to attack walker as well now aboard the 15 car so he's starting to put the pressure on looking for big things here this afternoon but quinlan has caught this leader really quickly we know that bmw's got great straightaway speed he's got a bit of time to work with i thought it was going to be tight with one less lap to go but fortunately for him there's a bit more time on the board to see if he can get to the front well there aren't any mclarens racing in the top class so we haven't had much time to really analyze them but if i remember right last year that mclaren was a rocket ship in a straight line at this track uh in the sprint competition i remember michael cooper being very very fast so that might negate some of the bmw advantage that we've seen tim pappas not going anywhere he's creeping into the picture as well running fifth in pro-am sixth overall in that porsche here comes quintlet it's like in one lap to make up that deficit and he's right there now it's going to be the horsepower stakes up this front straight away ryan yeah less than five minutes to go here comes quitlin stalking the overall late race winner the am class car todd clark part of the dad and lad lineup father and son behind the wheel of that mclaren racing across the start finish line one more time mclaren looks pretty strong on the straightaways cal it does it's holding its own certainly and looking at the time on the clock as quinlan takes it really deep into the brake zone that was a brave move i'm not sure needed to do it just yet but he said i'm going to the front early i've got to do it in case we get a yellow or something and todd clark saw him come and give him credit for opening up the wheel giving him that space to make the move to the inside so move sean quinlan to the overall lead todd clark slots in in second but is still the am class leader but the closest pro-am challengers they need to make their way past that mclaren to battle for their class win well looking at the clock as they cross the stripers about four minutes 40 so if you split that for two laps to the finish that'd be a two minute 20 lap that's kind of about the fastest lap of the race so fast gonna be very tight on the clock right now we've got one more lap to go after this one or two i think only one more so maybe 11 and a half for quinlan to bring it home now big lock up there into five for todd clark but he's able to get it blowed up anyway now it's time to pee capizzi taking his shot at that mclaren watching the race leader get away out of out of the windshield trying to find a way past it needs to do so urgently he's going to work the outside through hurry downs while brian putt shoves it up the inside he takes james walker junior's spot away look at capizzi makes that move i really felt of these runners here at the finish he could be the man to beat but he's now got brian put all over his tail massive about the game showing great speed and handling through the carousel brian putt has dedicated himself to his racing in the three-month break since the last race doing a lot of carting cutting out some things from his diet to try and trim down is motivated after getting his first ever pirelli gt for america win the last time out at vir aggressive move around walker james walker jr dropping back his spot but here comes brian putt he's been able to clear the mclaren already now walker moving to the inside of the mclaren as well really nice job by james walker jr and now he's got papas right on his tail as well looking for a way through the black swan racing porsche cayman has to back out on the outside move through billy mitchell bend now re-doubles the efforts taking a peek to the inside through 14. again not a class position and clark still has plenty of gap between himself and his next closest pursuer within the am class that's kevin conway back in ninth overall no real pressure there so he shouldn't fight too hard the white flag flies it wrote america sean quinlan out in front and in control yeah you could see it there looking at the clock probably within about five to ten seconds about being quite all that but this is now the final lap certainly for tom capizzi he's now cleared brian pat a little bit he's got to focus forward here but a lot of work to do quinlan's doing an excellent job he's been in this position many times now has the experience the head on his shoulder to deal with this pressure up front sean quinlan the 54 year old from palo alto california 2019 pirelli gt for america sprint x pro am champion alongside greg leofooz who had the excellent opening stint and qualified that car on pole for the race today out in front by a healthy margin tom capizzi slotting in in second brian putt trying to run him down the battle though is the one behind them with james walker jr trying to hold off the am class car of ty clark and todd clark and just behind him is c is tim pappas rather for black swan quinlan healthy gap just focus forward hit his marks i'm sure stephen cameron and greg leafous will be on the haunted him on the radio just talking shaun through this final lap here's the move not for class position but pappas is up another spot that'll give him a chance then to challenge james walker jr in the fight for fourth in pro-am dropping back siegel now coming under attack kevin conway coming up through the field behind him you'll find the silver class leader harry gotsacker in the starry night livery bmw for st racing and it was side by side for position as matt travis tries to rebound further back at the field for nola sport and morillo making a big charge here at the end as well so he's in the thick of the action lost to play for still as they head down towards that breaks over canada corner still plenty of positions up for grabs here comes conway or out the outside can't get the spot and that's going to leave him vulnerable he'll drop back a couple of positions through canada but out in front sean quinlan greg leaves and stephen cameron racing survive the craziness and will drive to victory lane at america's national park of speed sean quinlan in the bmw now uh he wasn't intimidated by the situation in front of him just got his head down good restart i think everyone was surprised when a safety car peeled off that late in the lab with the pack just chasing down the mclaren and suddenly we are back to racing and you just gotta get your head in gear quickly should be a good day for the stephen cameron racing team from a points perspective after the struggles from travis and hart they finish all the way back in 15th ninth in pro-am not the kind of weekend we come to expect from them but it did seem like the porsche maybe was on the back foot a little bit here at this particular race track and those things tend to even out over the course of a season down to victory lane and amanda well if you thought he was happy after the gta race take out the excitement now even turned his windshield wipers on getting out of the car but sean you see a checkered flag here today when you double up in both classes how meaningful is that for you oh that's it's a great feeling it's great feeling and today it was mainly greg who did most the work on this race and i just had to hold it off but uh yeah that was a lot of fun a lot of fun a little confused with the restart there but we got to figure it out and a lot of fun greg when you look at the first half of this race and and being able to help your teammate get this win what was key in your drive i think it really was just trying to stay up front the guys behind were pushing really hard um it definitely was a battle and i think you know being just being able to uh to keep that position was was key to to win today congratulations guys thank you greg brings up a good point i think lost in all the craziness at the end was just how good his defensive drive from pole was withstanding all the pressure that bill auberlin threw his way yeah when you look at bill's performance yesterday he looked like he's in a class of his arm well suddenly he realized he had other people in his class here today and namely greg leofoo's not really set up that win for stephen cameron racing great job and certainly the timing of that yellow through the cat amongst the pigeons in terms of the strategy the mclaren look like i had a good day there they get the class win and they'll be extremely happy back down to amanda now well they were just posing with their number ones for for the team photo but uh tyler i was talking to you a little bit off camera and you said you learned so much this weekend what will be the biggest point of the weekend that you'll take with you uh honestly just the knowledge that i learned about this car this thing's very different from anything i've driven before and just every session learning more and more and more as i can and we were able to put it all together today so yeah harry i'm sure it was very interesting there at the at the back half of that race with all those restarts what did you do to to stay calm inside that car really just kept my head down you know there was a lot of chaos going on especially with that restart towards the end right there it was a lot of good fun you know i can't thank the guys at st racing enough our bmw m4 was really fast today we had bad luck yesterday but we were able to make it up today congratulations on a stellar opening weekend here thank you great to see those two showing all of their potential max and a two-time touring car champion in a couple of different classes over the last two seasons harry gotzeker a champion himself in pirelli gt4 america's sprint x west pro am back in 2019 finished second in the silver championship for the team one year ago racked up four wins in that campaign and you can see just how talented those two are when paired together one more victory lane interview and we'll go to amanda for just that well todd we were talking to your son uh after that change and i think they were just as confused of like wait we're in the number one overall and i have a what the first question for you is that what was going through your mind on that restart with the entire field behind you so i was going down the back straight and the pace car lights went off and i'm looking at my mirrors there's nobody we get the canada corner and i can see him just coming like a japanese bullet train and i'm like go go go and we came up over the crest and the pace car came off and i could just see hey bud how are you i can just see him coming and boy wow that was an experience to have the whole field behind us so a lot of fun well the father the father-son duo gets it done and ty when you tell this story weeks later what will be the leading memory of this day wow right now it's pretty cool being being interviewed and being with my dad you know it's fun this is a cool historic track and it's a really fun track so you know it's just cool overall feeling congratulations when you first went thank you very much nothing quite like the father-son combo lot of happy faces down there and they'll be telling this story for a long time to come that is awesome that is awesome they are so stoked and pumped up with that result just a great day for that team well a wild race started like this greg leopouche on the pole for stephen cameron racing he kept that car out in front but it was a fierce fight kenton cook very aggressive to get the b sport racing aston martin up to second for a time before the bmw horsepower showed what it could do this was what it looked like at the start coming into turn five for the first time yeah everyone kind of keeps their nose clean but it was frantic all day long great battle here for that lead greg leaf who's a great opening stint and there we see an off and on there for the pf racing mustang of chad mccombie keeps it together this was the battle for the lead ultimately late in the going sean quinlan around clark gets the lead late that's right after that final restart that came as a surprise to all involved but it set up a wild finish how about brian putt getting cook's co-driver able to go on the attack gets pie james walker junior made his way past the mclaren as well but at the front of the field it was steven cameron racing greg leofooz and sean quinlan taking home a hard earned victory here at road america in race two of the weekend for pirelli gt4 america [Music] [Music] you
