[Music] [Music] [Music] a whole new season of the British GT Championship kicks off this weekend at Oulton Park under gloriously sunny skies it is a monster entry in he's dripping with not only star drivers and star teams but fantastic cars as well I want to change 12 months makes from a rather wet ultimately opening rounds last year to a very hot and sunny day indeed and indeed such is the size of the entry that the traditional pit window has had to be staggered now so you have one window for the gt3 and the GTC cars and another for GT 4 we have of course one driver starting an individual race based on their qualifying efforts so who stands this will finish the second race and it really is wide open Alton Park is not the widest of circuits which in itself throws in a fair few imponderables it could well turn out to be a bruising race but come what may it is going to be full of drama that is for sure David Addison and in McEwen and GTA's David Pitt our trackside looking forward to what promises to be an absolutely gripping first round of the championship and Andy we've got some new team some new cars some new driver combinations as I say it's almost like sticking a pin in the introduced in terms of farming the winner isn't it what I love about this is is for the last few seasons we've always had a vague idea whenever we turn up with a different circuit now well this is traditional that's the marquee circuit this is usually a good BMW circuit now we have no idea in gt3 alone there is only one car on the entry list returning from previous seasons which is the RAM Racing Mercedes everybody else it is a blank canvas brand-new car are the new to the UK new to the championship new to the team we really don't know who's going to come out on top and it's similar in GT 4 indeed and having said it's a mouthwatering grid and who better to talk us through the grid itself indeed savoring the opportunity to be in and amongst the cars but Andy Jay Oh David that that checks coming your way that was absolutely gorgeous okey-dokey now then here we are I have never known sunshine like this at Oulton Park before it is absolutely fabulous if perhaps a little too hot I'm going to be roaming the grits as the cars come out and see who we can chat to but I just want to point out if you could see over my shoulder there's a dinosaur over there did you see that I mean I thought it was Alton Park it turns out we're actually racing around Jurassic Park how fun is that now we're starting off let's just head over to poll shall we and see if we can find a driver by the Mercedes because this is terrific to see a Mercedes on polar Oulton Park in the sunshine that's something a beat great let's see if Callum's available I'll just see if I can touch him on the shoulder hope for the best Callum can i grab a couple of quick words for you first and foremost first race of the British GT season you are starting on pole in the sunshine how are you feeling yeah pretty good I mean you can ask for better starts of the weekend for us I think we've looked good on race pace but we're quite hopeful you're cool as a cucumber right now I thought you'd be a little bit more energized cherry saying no he's getting nervous that's what I mean yeah trust me the nerves are there but I can't do anything about it at least 22 minutes so we left in start and hopefully have a good clean opening stint and then I'll jump in and see where I mean he knows what to do of course but presumably you've you've give him a few pointers for that first turn of you yeah I mean we've worked really hard to help whole winter covering every aspect we think we need to one of those the proof will be what happens from about 10 minutes time for hope hopefully hopefully we're prepared all right you've heard from colour McLeod his co-driver Ian loggy will start now David petard this is effectively the race that the ABS or but the lower graded driver starts these are guys that run a desk in the week and race a car at the weekends the pressure is on isn't it for them well it truly I mean this is the highest level of GT racing in the you okay so they are by no means amateurs even though they are deemed them they are when you put it down to it that only a second or two off of their pro counterparts which is an incredible feat as much as it has but some of these pro drivers they would have got three or four races under their belt already this year this is probably gonna be their first races for the answer there might be a little bit race rusty there may be a couple of mistakes that happen all the testing and mileage that they can do over the winter you can never quite simulate a race from so this is really gonna test there everything that they've worked on over the winter but yeah throw a throw set of headlights in the rearview mirror and see how they react one of the things that's we've been a discussion point in in programming quotes GT racing is user friendly cars we'll come to that in a second because there are some cars that work better perhaps in our towns than others I'm intrigued though by this dinosaur on the grid I think Andy is equally fascinated I'm having a lovely time yeah it's great fun I'm not sure that it's said it's necessarily calming the drivers nerves though shall we say are you finding that the dinosaur is helping or really throwing you a knight is helping a little bit probably selling you know you start in p2 which is a cracking result I would say how are you feeling does the car feel good are you feeling ready for it yeah no p2 line to the mega job him in the cold front yesterday are excited for p2 but Tim we've done like a testing and a lock on you tiger run so unfortunately for a second race where my father died about forgot good a good start here and decent result in the freshness and the Bentley Continental it is wide meaning tough to pass have you got plans for that first corner him tough to pass him but also we're not the strongest in the straight line here as well so it it's scooter forgot straight-line speed nobody's getting past apart yeah we're gonna struggle a little bit Tim straight line but corner wise we're getting up to scratch with it now and it is getting quicker it's just a long process so you say you're not great in straight lines but good on corners from memory Elton's got quite a few corners this should favor you shouldn't it should favor haven't care last name of this year was 2011 and so it's a bit of a shock coming back in there seeing how quick it was again kind of forgot how quick it was but and no I think once we get settled into the race and then will grow and every time within the car we're getting quicker it's awesome enjoy it thank you David I'm gonna wander again so I'll just throw back to you and see who else I can find okay thanks Andy so yes more Patrol David let's just go back to this question about user-friendly cars for the am's there are some that are easier for the amateur driver than others on them yes but I think touching what Andy said early on I would David's comment on that but there's a lot of new cars to these new common drivers so be interested yet to see you I have a handle the RAM Racing Mercedes on pole position clearly caught even though it's a continuous manufacturer to the championship that is a new car for both Callum and Ian and it's great to see that they've debuted the car on pole positions a great job by Ian in amateur qualifying Aston Martin's have a most successful brand in the championship which has relied on Pro out so that shows it's an AM friendly car buyer gets a new color me interested to see how that runs as well so yeah I must admit I'm a little bit stopped at the moment but also you've got GT for two races in one you're looking at the gt3 Bentley their number 31 it's going to be started by Rick Parfitt junior but two races because gt4 will be a very fierce fight in itself and Andy we've got some new cars new drivers new combinations in there including these omnipotent Ford Mustangs that have set tons of lights over the weekend thus far haven't they just yes they've blocked out the front row of the grid with 15 ahead of 19 the team automatic motorsport cars they've been given a little bit of extra ballast I believe since Saturday to bo-peep it's being tweaked as is often the case earlier in the season so well we'll wait and see whether they can continue that form in the races today after the grid though Andy who have you found well I've raced down to the front of the GT 4 and how cool does this look we've got two mustangs sitting on the front row at GT for this is seriously cool almost as cool as this guy I got Chad with me Chad I mean what a moment right at the front of the GT four pack and it's a double mustang special yeah you know multimatic and forward if gave us such a great platform to work for with our Mustang GT for and we're obviously new to this and in soaking it all up and see what happens here and hope for a great result I mean you guys look see really quick what's that what's the secret you know that no secret I think that we've just got a great car to work from and this truck fits our car really well also a lot of high speed stuff the Mustang has many strengths and hopefully we you know we can finish it off where we're not 100% sure how the race to play out being our first event but you know it's been a great experience so far it's been a learning experience this isn't a easy racetrack to get a hold of and learn very quickly so it's been a been a long few days for us trying to get to this point but see what happens you exceeding expectations already you know you always said expectations higher right but I think that this is exactly what we're coming to hope to do it showcase what the Mustang can do and but you know it's not over to the checkered flag Falls so we need to see how see how the thing races and how it works in traffic and one go from there Chad thank you we have to clear the grid because it's basically time to get on the race by the way Chad isn't really American he's just putting that accent on already kidding me goes back to you because it's pretty much time to get out of here and so we look forward to what promises to be an absolutely stonking first round with a British GT Championship the roots of which go all the way back to 1993 when the British racing drivers Club started what was then called the National Sports GT challenge it began at Donington Park it was a modest grin all of Porsches SRO the stefandrach our organization took it over in 2004 and how it has blossomed with gt3 and gt4 making for this mega entry one car missing because it wasn't ready in time one has been withdrawn after electrical problems that was about motorsport McLaren but even so the grid is formed and there's going to be so so much to look at and we keep making the point it's virtually wide open this because you've got so much that he's near including there the mclaren 570s GT for jordan coloured younger of Rob collards to sounds he will share with Lewis Proctor and the cars then good to go that's the onboard view from the 42 century motorsport BMW Mark Kimber will go first with Jakob Matheson as the co-driver and Andy gt4 is going to be as fierce a fight as outright for gt3rs isn't it as is often the case and quite often the fascination in these races particularly here at Oulton Park is when the two groups of car sort of fire themselves together and lapper will become a factor as we go on but yes GT for incredibly competitive the McLaren's were very quick last year the Aston Martins equally so the difference this year is that in GT for McLaren is in its second season tracing in the championship but it's a new Aston Martin in GT 4 as well so how quickly all those Aston Martin teams sort of will they hit the ground running here at this first race and will they be on on the pace with the with the McLaren's from the early stage of course it was BMW he came out on top in GT 40th century motorsport and they've got four new drivers in their GT four cars so it's all change across both classes the opposition GT for hhc motorsport defecting from Ginetta to McLaren still earlier the development of this project knitted together but it's been a very impressive started the green flag is waved there to get the formation after this rolling start underway Ron rack gives Bentley eventually gets going but was a little bit reluctant I think to do so so that's going to work just need to play catch-up a little bit as the cars then work their way down towards Old Hall corner it's a rolling start so they don't stop off the grid again the Bentley's that you'll see in the new generation introduced last year second-generation Bentley Continental GT threes but attorney was the cars go past our commentary prompts on the inside of old whole corner all three of us are drooling because this is some entry David's trying to work out which car Iran would be racing but I mean this is a course on lineup David the snow I definitely want to race to be a little bit obviously I've been racing for past year and pit food but yeah the noise the spectacle the sound those fans are out the weather's out it's gonna be a good day bracing absolutely right so down through Cascades there you can see the hhc motorsport McLaren's that run in GT for Aston Martin's in there as well there is the Jaguar f-type for major Steve McCulloch manage or the Invictus motorsport jangling this is how the grid lines up the start drivers here you will see caption is in log E and Ron Ratcliffe at the France Mercedes and thankfully respectably on the second row of the grid they'll be Sam to harm with the bar well Lamborghini lining up alongside Rick Parfitt with the JRM racing Bentley on the third row Sectary Motorsports BMW m6 Dominic Paul will go first Adam Fowler moving up a gt40 gt3 the bar were with the Lamborghini for company then the huge experience majoring Wilmot who was racing here in the mid 8:4 Mon the Ford he's got mark farmer a race winner last year alongside he but BMW an Aston Martin on the fourth row the grid on the fifth row that will be Richard near a local man lining up alongside ground Davidson's asked the Marcin 40s what alongside the team have a racing Mercedes behind them Holly Wilkinson for optimum motorsports and former champion Andrew Howard with the beach Dean dairy ice cream fat Aston Martin but then it is Michael I go to round out the gt3 part of the grid Scott Maxwell is on the GT for pole position so he will have Jay but Jay Buford rather lining up alongside him Dean MacDonald is next in the first of the two hhc motorsport MacLaren's Tom Jackson lines up alongside him then you've got Jordan Collard and Patrick kibble next on the grid mark Kimber for century motorsport with deep BMW m4 will be next then Alec to Tom Jones and James darling Academy noticed Mortimer motorsport the team's operating they asked the Martin and McLaren respectively then actor Kelvin Fletcher lining up alongside genetic g4t graduate Connor O'Brien next there's Andrew Gordon Colebrook for century lining up alongside Ben Hurst next on the grid touring car and Clio graduate ash hand his net then you've got Marc Murphy's Steve McCully will be in the ovitzes janggu and next the wrapping through the back of the grid Sam smelt moving for the BTCC it's a GT car alongside Patrick Patterson with Mike McCaul of Nick Jones and then Graham Johnson in the balfour current 570s the GT 4 car at the very back of the grid that briskly takes you through who you can anticipate to see and as they come through large corner that the first of two one-hour races at Oulton Park is about to get underway British GT for 2019 hold on to your hands this is quite an entry can see the two grids GT through three head of GT for two great races to look for and the first round of the championship East goes they storm over the line down to a little corner on the inside line the Mercedes it is a big market it will grab the advantage of running around the outside Ron Ratcliffe found a hard case third in the Lamborghini as they pour downhill for the first time but it's a good getaway then by the in Lobby from pole position rather active has a cheeky look came down Ward's cascades but Andy there was no way through no been a contact into to Aston Martin's on a bit further back as well particularly well mark former in his tier sport car making a small place and I think Phil Matier sport machine as well they're both things faintly through in the end we've seen car right behind them as well onto the brakes through the shell hairpin and good Sunday my ring Parfitt their proper position from fourth to third but most significantly despite a bit of paint betrayed and I think in both classes they are all safely through the first half a lap and David Peter this is tough of course because even though the rolling start you're on coal tars yeah I mean track scepter the Sun has been out all day so I've got you know struggle as much they have done in previous years but no clean start spoke so far by everyone a very close group formations that they're a little bit worried about the gt4 field let them know that major the guys they'll see not that rusty so far so good that is they riddle their way out of nickel Brook for the first time on board here with a number 42 mark Kim but you can see in the body of the field within that GT force grand band as they head uphill so the race leader he had long he doing his level best to get away but gate winning his route Radcliffe experienced drivers both and then up it's a third place has come one of the many champions that we've got on the grid Rick Parfitt so the British driver in third spots it comes with your musical stock of course but he's no mean race driver himself from both three come over the line the gap widening isn't between them as their Ratcliffe looks at the inside line couldn't take full advantage of that 70 had long II just in the labor track if now David is giving him a walkover yes so Ian is a classified bronze driver brian is a classified silver driver so he's gonna have technically the advantage initially of being a little bit more experienced than Ian so he's looking to really get fast in and then make a move from there not got a yellow flag be way below Ball corner that's because we've lost something I fear from the duck gt3 it is to the s yeah my farm hoes got all over the grass taste back onto the road but handing this lead baffle now getting ever more intense run Ratcliffe I get the feeling wants to be ahead he thinks he can build a lead here yeah he is one of the two silver silver driver combo to gt3 as David was alluding to the B's is that that Bentley is thirty kilos heavier than that mentally which is a traditional throw hands are lined up they don't have to serve an extra pit stop penalty with the cars are significantly cobia not really holding the ian maki machine and that was a little unnecessary out there they're both new pointing evolve handing the race lead to rick carpet safety car is being deployed Peter Daily News the Clark in the course calls for the safety car headlock he tried to spin it around and rejoin and then I mean stalled it has got stuck a bum farmer who already had one off suddenly arrives and find the road blocked me from the one but trips into the side in log he never has a lot of luck he remember a couple of years ago Spence he was destroyed at Hilltop so the safety car is going to be deployed that will bunch up everybody can come out at the end of this next lap so the boards are there everybody slows there is Ron Ratcliffe limping on so for more David he's saying give me the benefit of the doubt he may not have been a a driver error but he certainly out of the race because now he's got this suspension breakage yeah I mean there's a big hit wilt will contact is lose like it's destroyed the front left suspension of the Bentley and the rear right suspension of the Mercedes so yeah he did a good job to spin it around but I think there was just no triumph beyond then hence why he's lit marooned in the middle of the circuit fair play to the rest of the grid for avoiding him as well as they did they can see how much room there isn't now going down through the sequence of corners and his lobs so huge frustration this at least helps got Farber doesn't it katika play catch-up and stay on the lead lap safety car is deployed and Ron Ratliff has dragged it so far back and then abandoned ship really a quarter away from the pit lane yeah realizing perhaps that he was maybe doing more damage to the car by trying to bring it home he's pulled over better late than never but what a shame that how time it was they're great for menopause Bart father I think he's actually been off three times though because he popped into the middle of the gt4 Hakan that wall then went off a tall tall corner and then caught up with in Lobby stricken car as well so three of our potential front ring gt3 cars in urban starred in GT forest then played it is still rooted in the Mustang that leads the way but what he's lived up to 57 McLaren ran out of hhc motor Baldy McDonald the folks up in the second position so it was a Mustang walked out on the front row GT for before we have had some changes a position in that class the world okay so Rick Parfitt you are on board with him a second ago he is the race leader now let's try and piece together exactly what did happen going into and well first of all a hole at the start of the race we'll get to the incident in due course so from pole position aired loggy good getaway the have a belong breed Lamborghini pulls out to the outside and swaps back in again so so far so good in LA he leads everybody nicely through our whole corner mark farmer goes a little bit wired up onto the curb but actually managed to and got to track position at least at that point this is looking back from the JRM Bentley as the race gets underway down towards old Hall break hard to turn right careful through the right hamper on the cold of time working from the gt4 part of the grid this is Mark Kimber's of you Brecht our swing team cars all around and including around the outside there James Dolan Mayo Cup graduate and then they punish down towards Cascades now mark farmer part one gets involved spencer doho thankfully is avoided that was James daughter and he was bouncing off that was one incident that he had there's more to come I'm afraid and then from that angle it looks like the car wasn't for slowing no their puffs of smoke from the front right which yes suggests to me some sort of ABS issue these cars shouldn't lock up and yeah Brian was a port he's just a passenger there so a genuine mistake but that has white both cars out look for the puff of smoke right and then yeah he tries to go to the inside to avoid the rear here and but that was only ever going to be a closing gap and yeah both cars are the race and he had log he did nothing wrong didn't evening he was turning in he was the race leader he had track position and this missile appears from nowhere let's see whether we can hear more about certain the Mercedes side of this because caliber cloud in Huggies co-driver ain't gonna go to drive he did the pit lane how did he see it he's with an TJ thanks david Callum obviously not what you were hoping for just talk us through how you saw the incident I think it's fairly plain to see I mean mines a great lad but he's just made a mistake he's out brakes himself he was locked up and yeah just drove inspired to be and I said I know why very well there'll be no malice in it but this early in the season it was not okay thanks absolutely no fault audience none whatsoever no you can say absolutely none whatsoever none so from your perspective now is there a chance to be able to regroup for the next race are you gonna be able to rebuild and get out there yeah of course yeah we get the car so it will get back out on track in I mean we're incredibly fast especially over the run you say you know right well we all know that he's and he's a good lad and he's not that sort he's not deliberately taking you out but presumably you'll still go and have a little word in his show when he's in what can you say he's made a mistake he's ruined his race he's ruined our race what's it going to achieve nothing so no I want to say anything I mean he finds a good guy I'm sure he'll be able to apologize well look I appreciate you talking to us sorry to see what's happened as well okay thank you of course and these next target he's going to be Ron Ratcliffe to go get his side of the story you've heard from the prosecution with the defense Maude well Walter word instinct that calleb is putting it down to an error if I was David from up here thinking it might have been a problem with the ABS on that car but we'll hopefully get here from Ryan rafted once he's back in the pit lane and will be hugely frustrating himself now this is the reason the safety car is out because of the damage of the suspension the Mercedes needs to be lifted what they're going to do is send everybody the old way through Nick abrooke so move the escape route barriers out of the way this keeps the race flowing so sensible decision my photographer calls Peter daily to do this you're onboard with Rick par feedback in the championship because here or is one of a couple of seasons ago and means in between logging admins Radcliffe is gonna be looked at after the race but right now it is Rick pathway from south to harm and Dominic Paul first second and third yeah no great Rio Danijela a daughter watching said who is in the leading pack within GT for GT for currently is the very American multimatic Mustang Jay Buford and Chad McAfee ahead but the said pre-owned Scott Maxwell cast got natural by the wind in fact at the moment is second in the GT for a lost opposition's McLaren did they have a problem for your car on the opening lap they're still they're still looking strong despite that extra thirty kilos of powers but David that powers will have more an effect arguably here than anywhere else because it's very stop start and it's very hilly yeah that's the big people stop start yes a hot day like this as well the tires are going to overheat more so that way is going to play more a factor towards certainly many races yes of course that is the the same penalty as it happens but if reasons that the s over silver driver pairings happen to a carry in gt3 for GT for it's a 15 kilo penalty for being a silver silver driveline and an extra 14 seconds in the pit lane the gt3 cars get is just the extra dollars so could use their davidyan longest car as a flatbed truck people take the access road I'd imagine to your brain corner now on the inside a thicker Brook and hopefully you should be racing before too much longer indeed so there is the safety car that coming down towards his locks Ezra partners we've been saying that the head of the queue all of this eating into the racing time for thee he quotes and for lower graded driver what do they have to do at this point David I mean they've got to think about tire pressures and tire temperatures but there's not a lot else is they just keep circulating and keep focused yeah that's the big thing and you see I think this is yeah one of the VM century motorsport BMS working the wheel hard weaving hard to try generate load in the tires keep the heat in the tires so that when the track goes green again the car is at its optimum and they can obviously pounds hopefully and other people's decisions on Kimbo you're riding with he worked way up towards the completion for lap now and the lights go out on the safety car that's the indication that it will peel in and we'll be good to go racing which is this time then so it's going to be Rick Parfitt versus Sam too hard Omni Paul in the mighty BMW in third place Adrian will not running fourth in the similar car can't rip our feet get away probably the most experience of that leading angle in terms of gt3 machinery say for Adrian will walk over the time-life makeup at the races back on the way with green flag conditions again pathing leads there by six tenths diving down for the whole corner to harm Paul will box second third and fourth fifth is Adam valid Richard Neary is in six and they're an effort he's made on getting good room after that Ward's in the first corner knee completed the move but yeah I'm sure that we weren't potentially in the stewards office and in the GT move but anyways works for Adrian well box to say he goes back to the nineteen eighties an FF 1600 racing around here number 72 out of power Hugh I did with now see countless over the hilltop now he has just seen what's gone on the head so he Dominic Paul can lose a place he can lose another while things Adam and he is Denikin himself into the mix now this is gonna be a competitive car isn't it when he put Phil came in for the second half the race so another three or two laughs really you could have walked back to the pit lane except that Rick Parfitt he's certainly not a slow driver nor his agent will former champion Rick used experienced driver Adrian in both pop and historic GT cars so when they I'll certainly nicely placed at the moment and Sam to hard running in second place number 69 he will hand over to Johnny overlapping the McLaren to the outside of the Ford Mustang in collage corner and rides around the outside to wait on the brakes there was the hay three on the dirt beside the road there an ambitious attempted move there by Z McDonald if does not pay off he settles back in the second place that was a prime example wasn't it of how much better on the brakes the McLaren appeared to be okay to what local allegation that will seem to only have an edge now the race leader is pitted recarpet as there you can see giveaway now so said Morris is the wind of the car as they have maybe never hang on to the advantage is the next question is going to be set Morris versus potentially Phil King now he number 72 so we have gods but awful lot of shuffling going on partly because of the pit stops partly now because of quicker drivers getting on board so it's going to take a bit of unwrapping in the next lap or so but said Morris has taken over what was the leading car here in the meantime number 15 look coming after attack so that is Scott Maxwell it was now gone tucked up behind him the [Music] britons for so Morris to Keane the top two in the gt3 competition for the moment and this in GT four is still the class leader for grabs as their brothers a very very fierce fight indeed going on yeah the McLaren having a little peek of the inside there but deep McDonald I think deciding the discretion was the better part of valor there in a Punchbowl is the car that's now been taken over by step or is there years of course this is technically for position Abbott the GT forecasts have not yet stopped they will be doing so beginning to do so in the next few last but I believe that he is still the highest place to be gt3 cars and a pizza in a bit of Calcutta the third place must hang it off onto the grass unfortunately as a result tobacco Scott Maxwell he's out of a podium place I sort of alluded to this potentially the starvation was more yes there is a bit of leaning on each other the race leading GT four and again on the extra call a wheel to wheel out of the turn radius lead and Dee MacDonald will he try the outside line at lot score laughs ago he's now at the inside add into the biggest fact that the overall race leader is trying to get through they see indeed as his normal self Morris needs is in the people tripping over themselves tripping over him so Scott Maxwell turned it bounced off the Bentley and ends up in the bramble said Morris get through the traffic whew he thinks Burt's got a bargain on concentrating David or was that just symptomatic of a busy travel is a place where gt3 car can overtake again with compliance from the other car the inexperience of these Mustang drivers may not have seen that so yeah tough on their set wasn't fully alongside and that the must I didn't see it and as for this is brave stuff isn't it Dean McDonald lucky inside a ramp fair as they come up dearly and he worked for the McLaren he got through but that could have been a lot worse so great racing you GT former Scott Maxwell then has dropped a lot more wife and the consequence water back so as we've got the last of the gt3 stopped cycle through the GT for pick window will be opening shortly and look at this traffic jam now somewhere in amongst all of that for the race leader's you've got all the GT for bat markers as well lights flashing there as the gt3 field tries to car bar through the traffic sir at the moment said Morris has the advantage in gt3 but as soon as they can get through the bat markers it's going to be very different of a moment trying to find the next composition he's going to be where Phil keen still in second with the gt3 at the third of the gt3 cars got to get quite a lot way down to the only Wilkinson Brad Alice asked to pass I think but again that's going to be confirmed at the end of the next lap very busy again through druids corner here it's chop to know which side of the road to go in the edge easy for cars often the gt3 driver sort of requests that the slower traffic just sticks to the racing line at least that way they know where they're going but when the GT four cars are battling so ferociously for position as they of course perfectly title to it often just eight the room for a gt3 car to slip through the middle as well after all but they go and the century vote sport number three car very very late on the brakes there that one now being piloted by then green then in back up the three machine is making decent progress here also that is the second plate car Phil keen who is seven point three seconds behind Seb Morris and he's lapping quicker at his last lap was frankly faster that might have been said stuck in traffic it might just be that Phil Keith is a Lamborghini factory driver knows the car inside out is absolutely flowing but the st. Maurice has a cushion and we still got thirty minutes of the race to go back it's going to be fascinating now to see whether or not Phil Keith is able to close he's brought the gap down by two hundredths within the first sector so you've got two very very good British GT drivers here in cars they know well said for example with me part of the Bentley Works quadlings bar 24 hours he drives Bentley's he blocked out as well as in the British GT Championship so Tudor still keen it's gonna be between these two and Phil key has just done the best of any morning in the middle sector in the race thus far so he is absolutely flying and there you can see the gap that's got a bake up there's no traffic around for the moment GT for pit window is open however so the road is going to be patchy sometimes it'll be able to gather in the pits and it's gonna get busy because they've all poured out again yes exactly and of course it's tricky coming out of old Hall corner you can't necessarily see that pit lane exits until you're out of the turn at which point you could have a cluster of GT four cars emerging into your path set Morissette's the fastest lap briefly only to be immediately picked by Philippine who again over half a second quicker than the race leader on that lap so the gap is now in for several seconds as they go on to their 70 o'clock the race third place then technically Dee McDonald in the GT 4 car because those cars of course came quite a bit of time when the gt3 cars will dive for the pit laid the game over through the field was filthy to set Morris for the championship a couple of years ago didn't they back when Phil was facing the top mnsure and Seth Morrison Derek Parfit came out champions so they know each other well it looks as though to the Lamborghini of the factory of the two at the moment so the fastest lap of the race done by the chasing Phil Keane and said Morris is responding you're looking at the GT for pit stops all being cycled through we'll get back to GT for in a moment but as far as the overall situation is concerned as I say the lead gap coming down Phil King now the fastest lap of the race now behind and you've got Johnny Cocker he is coming under attack now for Ben green so they are 67th on the road but that's all going to improve because of the GT 4 cars getting out of the way on the pit stops there is set Morris Road to himself at the moment but David the way the Phil Keeney's going he's gonna bring the cam down and down isn't looking in the qualifying results Phil Keith is in a little bit of a league of his own at the moment he was over half second up the road from anyone around here he's had three out of four wins here in the past two years I think it is and he knows that Lamborghini even though it is the new Evo version of the Huracan he knows about the back of his hand now being a factory driver for Lamborghini well well deserved and yet what's that gap coming down taken another four Ted's out of the leader this time around so 6.3 seconds is the gap it was seven a change so Phil keen hacking away at set Morris now third is Brad Alice the fall of this Johnny Cocker fifth is their green sixth is Jack Mitchell seven thousand Charlie Adam a multiple champion we've got yet really touched on Johnny but he's there in seventh place taking over from Greg Davidson in eighth place now at mcchrystal julu ninth is Marco Sorensen in for Andrew Howard and in tenth place but dropping is the gt40 the deep abdominal as the pick window cycle through for the GT forecast now number two has got a one second stop go penalty that's mark barber at Nikki teams asked him for being one second short of the pit stop so you get the stock go penalty to make up the shortfall I did say if you get it wrong you get the penalty to go with it it's not mark farmers day is it multitudinous dramas at the very start now stop go penalty meantime Morris Turkey at six point three seconds is the character monitor and what's going on in gt4 with the pit stops having all around anything well they're still a whining is the answer pretty much taught the new century motorsport GT for BMWs heading out of the pit lane so yes Buford's just pitted from the lead of that class in fact so we probably won't know the the order in reality GT Ward for another lap or so it wasn't quite the same urgency for the GT for cars gt3 they also dived in over the course of two laps in GT for they've sort of used up more of the the pitlane windows thinking a bit longer to unravel I can tell you is that this is getting very close now for third place Premier lists and Tommy concur former champion himself of course getting themselves together Aston Martin would look to get one of their cars on the podium here in the opening round of the championship the new generation has tomorrow of course it is a new generation luckily as well it looks would you say the cars we've seen racing philosophy season become gt3 but this is the gt3 evo that's flashing its lights into a halt on corner and David Pits are not racing for and wanting a sign language for the faster than you get out the way yeah on these gt3 cars they're fun fun to have especially in the traffic little slower GT for traffic usually a lot just to grab the driver's attention to show thee I'm gonna make a move on the next corner when it's a class on class champion it's just a case of letting them know that you're in there in their mirrors and that you want to try force them into a mistake so we of course at the halfway point just over drama very early on with that incident between Ratcliffe and he'll Auggie and EJ has managed to fire on Bradley down the pit lane to try to discover exactly what happened I certainly have yes Ryan has been very bold and has prepared to step up and talk to us after what must be a heartbreaking and also very frustrating incident yeah I mean first of all I want to say a huge huge sorry to ram race in Ian and Callum I mean Ian was delighted to be on pole and you know he got a great start I was under immense pressure to get past him and well everyone in the industry knows everything just happens in a split second it was you know he hit the brakes tiny bit earlier than the previous lap I wasn't expecting it I braked where I I braked a lap before and it was either plow into the back of him or he'll go down the inside so I chose go down the inside I think Ian's panicked a little bit try to try to stop me doing it and I was just going to quickly and ended up here in him and ruining the race of the two of us really sir you're absolutely crestfallen aren't you but you've already popped in to see calaman at the very least and sort of offered your apologies and he's already spoken to us and he knows there's no malice in it no no you know I'm not the type of driver that if there's someone in my way and I want to get past them I'll hit them out of the way it's Racing's racing you got to be fair and you know this is a non-contact sport I know how much it costs these cars are worth an awful lot of money and the last thing I want to do is go bashing them around and beating them up you know I can understand the Ian and Karen are both gonna be pretty angry with me at the minute but I just want them to know that it was not purpose we're all out there to race hard and race fair and like I said in the beginning it's things can happen in a split second and [Music] interesting that David that he's stuck his hands up and said yeah my fault you were wondering whether it was an ABS issue but this McLaren customer racing program good for teams and drivers and right now looking very good indeed for h8c now on track set Morris leads the way and it's a great first int that we've done in that car by Ripoff it's he is it the fish with a DJ thank you yes Rick it was a terrific start for you from p4 to p3 very early on and then of course you benefited from the incident just in front yeah I mean all soon as we know he's very very tight and so my strategy from the beginning was to stay out of trouble and it's always slippy around turn one on the outside so I literally wanted just the slot in and I saw the hon when in slightly too hot and so I kind of capitalized on got a good run out of out of cascades and got in front of him and then set about following the other two and I was pretty happy to just sit there to be honest but you could see they were going hammer and tongs at each other and and I thought that I didn't run it really particularly get involved and sadly I think it was only a matter of time they were they were really pushing each other and it's just sad to see that happened especially on the first round because obviously Ryan's my old teammate and he's a great driver and Ian has did an amazing job in in quali yesterday and that Merc Mercedes looks amazingly fast so we've got our work cut out but I was obviously you know how happy to inherit the lead and but then I knew we had a quick race car it wasn't as quick in qualifying but we knew we had a quick race car and so JRM considering the lack of time we've had with the car done an incredible job and I put my head down and I think I came in sort of roughly with seven seconds lead so that's yeah but it was it was a heck of a first it made but of course now save despite that impressive lead is really good as because he's got Phil King breathing down his neck absolutely and sets on old truck tires as well so he didn't get a new set of tires koala tires and so phil has got new tires obviously we all know how quick fillers we saw his his his his pole lap yesterday I mean he's an amazing driver but so sir so you know the one it's one thing catching but it's also another passing so I would like to think Bentley set Morrises aboard the Bentley Phil keen in the Lamborghini and the gap which was coming down has been going up again Damien are we putting that down to traffic nor are we thinking this is more of a Bentley circuit which way is your thought process leading it was interesting to hear that Deverick saying that they didn't take new tires in the pit stop and keep did without flexing the lap times in itself so yeah I think also another good point the Frick mentioned is caching is one thing passings another you saw what happened when Jesus three cars get together something quite fisticuffs type races again looking at the long distance the reason why by Rick Seb and silky gt3 20 chances just scoring points consistently so where the keys are secured his tires now accepting the fact they got massive gap to third that's gonna be a good start to the year for those GT full of battle strangely because they're squabbling for second the two Tolman MacLaren's are letting a change see car get away Calvin pointer has been adapting to review car and learning about the uses of the McLaren be very very good indeed isn't it because he's building a gap Tolman squabbling for second group two cars rather than working together to try and catch yes exactly you always wonder if they were the other way round maybe they bear the plates or fetch more progress and it does appear rather that Lewis property' feels he is the quicker of these two at MacLaren's but one thing's for sure is the good race for McLaren in GT or is there because they're locking out the top positions at mode it's not all been and the first time he ever drove a race car so he's my little Protege so it's really cool to see him graduate to the the big boys and the gt3 League it worked really well with his teammate Dominic Paul this weekend and I think they're between the two of them they're very offensive package along with sentry they really know what they're doing as well so it's not the strongest circuit for the BM so I think their games I think this weekend is just to score points stay out of trouble but when we get to like so siltstones bar that's been really coming to the 30m sixes advantage it's a mighty car whoops he has to get past Luke Williams there who gets muscled out onto the grass so that cost him time within GT for as we've also now got to Ellis and Cocker nose to tail so this is game on for third overall as they're getting up through the GT for lead battle that really takes the pressure off Callan pointer does the cover of the timing line so now can Johnny cocker Baker boo for third place they died down although all know me card is he cared he thinks about it on the inside like that he was given racing room they see didn't work which on the coal company still bear goes one side and then the others they head towards cascades is there a gap on the inside no there is not over behind them because Ben green is almost back up with them yes and this is really struggling he's approaching the second one it seemed to be I just thrown a dummy here and there and welcome Italy start to miss a few corners slide a bit wider managed to get up inside it wasn't as far from easy yeah the gap for sure you must have thought about a chance it catches one thing overtaking is another so we don't you know if I could have gone behind him I would have dumped him under pressure but he's not going to make any mistakes so you know you're just so self a second and try your best you know p6 to p2 you'd have taken it beforehand definitely yeah so Phil keen another day another Lambo another circuit just like a USB stick you plug him in and he delivers and see what he can do from the front of the grid in the second race we'll try and get to the podium it's a very busy day a talking part with lots of sports car and single seater racing and saloons as well from the Volkswagen Racing Cup which you can see on the live stream over the course of the day but there the SRO officials rounding up as many of the drivers as possible to get the podium on the way let's have a look at some of the highlights of that race which began with the field pouring its way through Old Hall corner and perhaps against expectations everyone survived there was drama though at Britain's early on that poor old Mark farmer had this big rotation going through oval corner people scattered that ran Ratcliffe holdup he made a mistake cannon da fee and log e put both of them out of the race and within log east car with broken suspension in the end stranded on the circuit the safety car came out Rick Parvati parroted the race lead and on the restart stormed away the battles raged on behind and he was able to make good his escape gt4 was also offering up plenty of drama with number 42 the marked him to BMW in and amongst it damaged all the back of number 9 Adrian Wilmot brought the car in very nearly a change of lead within GT forbidden quite work at the time for D MacDonald his time would come however as 31 blasted back into the race and then ended up in stride with the traffic set Morris had taken over from Rick Parfitt bounced off a number 15 the Scott Maxwell said pre-owned car which would have more woes later in the race as well and after the pit stops in cheetah 3 it was a back between set Morris and Phil Keaney GT porins Tolman vs. h8 Stevens Albury McLaren there's a great battle for third overall as well Bradley Alistair see Johnny Cocker said prio bounced off the side of Michael brought hers from Sadie's and found the table area coming out of cascade he was able to rejoin albeit delayed but up towards the end of the race there was no stopping said Morris as he worked his way through the traffic and the JRM Bentley Continental GT 3 taking honors round one of the British GT Championship to the delight of the Junior M team I think now just the bath upper body has been rounded up ready for the podium with the top three gt3 at the top three GT for the GTC win [Applause] [Music] [Music] so drivers very happy drivers up on the podium at the end of what was very very entertaining opening round of the 2019 British GT Championship more racing to cook the day though we get so podium there but lots are very happy drivers fantastic victory that for a profit so the drivers assemble now and cats at the end of a range making drivers very rapid on the CV but often not that rapid getting back so we are preparing for our next race momentarily and that's an action on its way in baking hot sunshine here at Oulton Park the like to see packed crowd on hand as well for this season opener that because of its relatively early place on the calendar can sometimes be suffering at the hands of inclement weather that's not an issue we've had this action here today with the default car basis for both of them but this is 44 to couple step below the GT 5 challenge that we've already seen out racing earlier on today less experienced drivers racing
