we're taking on some of golf's most common teachings and revealing whether they're right or Robby let's get to our next statement players who use their wrists never putt well right or rubbish that's rubbish it is absolute rubbish I mean goodness gracious me the list of players have used the wrists Nicklaus player seve Bobby Locke Billy Casper one of the best of all time now you don't see it as much these days I grant you that you do not see it as much and here's why at a professional level people playing on greens as you well know that runs 11 12 13 on the stimpmeter probably not a good idea to use wrists on very fast greens at home you're not playing on greens and running 13 feet maybe 8 maybe 9 and back in the day when the greens are a bit slow all the best players used a bit of wrist so most people playing normal golf courses and I guess we Gusman learn less Augusta National will be home course good look if it is you probably need to be using some wrist now the thing with risk people give wrist a bad sort of them a bad rap as long as you hit the ball square wristy puting can definitely work now the way I like square I've got a little mark on the back of the ball there I just concentrate on hitting the back of the ball if the face would be open I'd hit inside that line if the face would be closed I'd hit outside that line whether I'm risky or not I feel as if perhaps I'm going to take a little aim stick like this and just tap it I think of a long palm of the great Arnold Palmer saw him yesterday he was wonderful for me the great Arnold Palmer he would just use his wrist now as long as you can knock that dowel straight you know that that little aims to you know that the putter face was fairly square so for resti puting it can work and a lot of people say a lot of people do better with risky putting's I've put my mark at the back of the ball and I'm going to sort of try and copy mr. Palmer the king yet a bit not need I must say if wrist is you're putting choice don't move anything else just your wrist and just try and hit on the back of the ball and it'll have you somewhere near so let's try that I mean it's it's one way to putt especially if the Greens a bit slow so let's see you try that one Sarah I've put that stripe on the back of the ball and I think like we're saying with risky putters all great players that you were talking everyone's been teaching now don't use your wrists but at home again if your greens are slow it's ok de it helps with the get it to the hole right absolutely I mean I remember Raymond Floyd saying to me there's two words you should be very careful of and off one is never you know there's always never and always perhaps shouldn't say those so very often so that was a risky stroke and they're very an a very good one yeah it's sometimes our Hill putts you'd want that they're a bit slower just just helps you get a bit more a bit more stroking through so some good putters do use their wrists a lot of good putters using
