Pushing The Limits In Deep Snow

in the winter you have to go prepared if things go wrong while exploring out here it could be the last thing you ever do and in the snow things tend to go wrong this is the story till now Denny's a little late so Bruce is going to wake him up Denny has found the air horn in the past so nice try didn't even flin wow always expected it's like an episode of GTA 5 around here like at this time of the year No One nobody's really up there even if it's snow like it's only us [Music] usually all right guys we're out in Colona today we just met up with Bruce and Denny we got some brand new toy omts on the trail Destroyer ready to Shad some snow so we're going to go have some fun last summer Colona experienced some pretty intense forest fires that almost made their way into the city it was pretty crazy to see the aftermath as we drove out of town we'll see more when we get up into the trails too going to air down a little bit here for the dirt and then once we get up into the snow we'll air down a little bit more Sky's blue sun's out it's going to be a good [Music] day come down the hill and slide I think she's been crying a lot at tired it looks like the car came down the hill here and slid up onto the bank and it's stuck so Bruce is going to pull him out come [Music] forward uh let's just do one length actually okay so I'm a bit further from her so soft shackle around the wheel itself yeah you're coming down the hill and then SL onto [Music] the this couple had been stuck here since 5:00 a.m. and we're pretty relieved to get back on the road no no no no no no you're just on our way so it's okay you going to be able to drive out [Music] okay [Music] made it on the roof hopefully not in the sun roof and only because we'll be pulling this car out in the next couple weeks so don't do [Music] this the mountains around here would usually be buried in deep snow this time of year but are overly warm winter has meant there's not much the consistency is very sugary though and kind of like driving in deep sand making it easy to get stuck for a truck that weighs as much as [Music] [Music] mine [Music] yeah right here and then we'll go from trees and it'll kind of open up in like a kilometer [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] just [Applause] the key here is to float on the top layer as much as possible here I'm trying to crawl back up onto it after breaking through on an incline [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he [Music] yeah [Music] n it's snowing not say so much for blue [Music] [Music] keep her handy eh yeah this section gave us some troubles last time so there's like a crusty layer on top of this snow um and if you break through it's all sugary underneath and you instantly get stuck which is uh happened twice now I probably have the heaviest rig here so it's a little easier for me to get uh stuck in that stuff than than these guys but we're making it it's beautiful out here sun's trying to poke through snow is trying to fall who knows what we're going to get I am stuck again right after I said I just got stuck yeah oh it's deep too [Music] well I'm not sure that that packed it at all but maybe this type of snow is definitely not what the trail Destroyer excels in even air down to 9 PSI the weight of the vehicle and consistency of the snow just don't mix I mean at least it sounds and looks really cool a that a spinner yeah I think we probably got to get uh Denny to pull me back yeah or I can go over and you can winch up to me CU yeah I'm just pulling both of us into the soft yeah maybe why don't we do that and then I'll be up here well I tried to get up this hill Bruce made it up I did not make it up just dug a huge hole so uh kinetic rope didn't work so I'm going to get Bruce over here so I can winch to him up the hill and then uh yeah it's just deep and slimy and my truck's heavy yeah the definition of sugar snow if you're going out snow Wheeling you need a good winch warn winches are the deao standard in the off-road industry and mine has never let me down just pulling [Music] you [Music] yeah stop there for a yeah only wind saves me every time woo all right well that's disappointing that I'm the only one that keeps struggling oh don't worry [Music] the blue skies of the morning were long gone now replaced by clouds and fresh snowfall not that I was complaining it was beautiful out [Music] there [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] oh bird flying around at the top of the mountain there I mean we could yeah so this is the start of the Shelf road and it is zero tracks so no go that is a hard no with the Shelf Road being too dangerous in the snow to go over the mountain we started making our way around another route through the burnt trees of last year's wildfire [Music] [Music] [Music] sh [Music] sh [Music] for [Music] oh all right we're doing a lot better in the snow now uh we're making better progress not getting stuck as much snow up here is a little easier to to get through probably a little more powdery we're going to make our way around this mountain and then back down to a main forestry Road and try to get up to some windmills that we can drive right up to which should be pretty cool the snow's coming down pretty good it's making for an interesting day we've been stuck driving through these snowy ruts for like an hour just bouncing us all over the place like a pinball machine but uh you know it's better than that sugary snow we were in earlier we were just getting stuck Sun's starting to go down so hopefully we make it up to the windmills there before gets dark I knew it was too good to be true [Music] before [Music] as we started going downhill it became very clear very quickly that the snow conditions were not going to allow us to proceed we made the call to get turned around and find another route but even just turning around in these conditions can be a challenge [Applause] a that liit on revers [Music] you got it here this turnaround took about 20 [Music] minutes you made the right choice backing out D oh yeah that's a camping trip down there yeah my truck's like why you hate [Music] me [Music] what I know the answer for that at least well should we uh should we call our day and go get some dinner we go back and see if we're going to take a detour cuz that way that we went last time that I blew my transmission line is plowed we don't know how far but if it's plowed a decent ways you go over and then you can go up to this Lookout that's like pretty nice even if it's dark let's do that and then yeah and it's on the way out it's just a different way out yeah cool so well that was interesting we uh just got onto the trail that we were taking over to the windmills yeah and the snow was so deep and sugary that it was no go we were just sunk and getting stuck every two seconds and then we spent half an hour getting turned around so we're going to go up a different Trail and uh try and get up to a Lookout Point before it gets dark decision where you go down the plowed way or take the detour and a view of the city I mean I think the detour is the only any idea what condition that way is in so the detour is the only option time it went great so I don't see what could go wrong all right uh I do need to refuel this is probably a really good place to do that yeah Cap's broken cracked so I tried to pour it and fuel just started dumping everywhere dump dump this Jerry can and I'll dump the gas from this Jerry can into this Jerry can because I have the funnel for this one got to feed the beast had a thirsty Jeep too huh yeah I don't know what happened there I was trying to drive with the fuel economy in [Music] mind sounds like there is a half timeon truck stop up one of the roads near here so we turn around and go back possibly there's a vehicle stuck way up the road where we just came from unfortunately so we'll flip around and thankfully this Road's plowed cuz most Winters this would have been an absolute battle to get to this point um but yeah I got his pin we'll flip around and go find him he's on some Sid track Trail so oh he's he's where we came down the Steep bank and you go through that um campsite oh last weekend he's up that road so all right let's spin [Music] around [Music] I mean yeah you can me that way trying to find this guy that's stuck but it's uh doesn't seem like there's any tracks up here so we're just heading to the GPS coordinates well I think we'll flip around somewhere here and then maybe Sean I can grab your starlink and I'll just ask the guy to share his location all right let's uh get it somewhere where the sky's open I'm assuming it's just that other set of tracks like actual track it looked like there was only tracks up and not tracks down so we might as well just head up that way just cruise and we'll wait for that to oh wait delivered yeah it'll be intermittent we're trying to find the stuck vehicle that called for Rescue and they were not at the GPS coordinates that we were given but we think they might be up another Fork cuz we saw tire tracks going kind of Only One Direction up that way so now we're backtracking to try and get there trying to get the starlink going but there's a lot of trees here we got the starlink mounted up on the sherpe equipment rack up on the roof uh flat mounted so it's great for these types of situations where we need to get some communication going but when there's a lot of trees it doesn't work that way well so hopefully as we roll here I see it just got online here so hopefully we can get in touch with uh with the people not too far away we found the stuck pickup it's always good to be able to lend a hand when people are stuck out in the forest if you're going out in the snow it's really important to make sure you have the right equipment so that you can get yourself unstuck and home [Music] safely [Music] okay you're hooked up put it in four low and then just uh as he starts tensioning and pulling you just drive out of it slowly like you normally no gas a little bit of gas little B Gas yeah just trying to spin the wheels just uh give them a little help yeah [Music] how we just used the kinetic rope hooked it up to the front BR just pulled them straight out no [Music] problem [Music] [Applause] go go go go go go yeah go go go go keep going keep going okay up there and turn passenger and forward yeah just keep goingo there we go [Music] [Music] enough ruts for the day for sure that's totally enough ruts but that was a fun day anyway we just clicked over 200 km from
