of nuzlockes here on youtube but one of my favorite ones that i've reacted to was salty dk dan's friend lock and he just came out with season two of that so i wanted to give my professional nuzlocking insight into this extremely quirky um little nuzlocke project it's really unique i really really like it i'm a big fan so let's over analyze this um clearly meant for comedy uh piece of gameplay and resource for you how to get better at your nuzlockes it's not meant to say that any content creators are bad or horrible or anything like that it's just meant as something for you to learn how to be a better nose locker so let's get into it salty dk dan friendlock season two let's go today i'm going to be doing a randomized nuzlocke of pokemon black with a twist every single pokemon that i catch throughout this run will be represented and controlled by one of my friends this i love this format two of the pokemon friend lock before we get started if you haven't yet seen season one or just stumbling onto this series for the first time this new play through will contain some minor spoilers so go watch season one it's really good full story it is highly suggested that you check out season one first here are the rules of this run standard nuzlocke procedure we got permadeath and we can only catch one pokemon per route for the sake of variety we won't be catching two of the same pokemon evolution line we'll simply skip duplicates until we find a new species with that being said here is the interesting part every pokemon i catch becomes the avatar of one person in my friend group chosen at random when they're in my party they are in full control of their pokemon's actions and are allowed to talk with me live on discord stuff like what moves their avatar can learn what moves they use during battle and if they evolve or not is totally up to them meanwhile i would take on the role of the trainer i would traverse the overworld be in charge of items and have the primary say on who is in the party and when they'd be used like i said though this is a nuzlocke so if one of my friends dies they die in real life no i'm just kidding they're just kicked from the discord last but certainly not least the starters and wild pokemon in this run are randomized okay yep or get some of the worst luck of all time yep uh interesting rule set i think the main thing to note here and salty told me this when i told him i'd be reacting to this um the the full party wipe not being a full wipe is interesting usually the reason i do full party wipe equals a reset is because i think um it's it's just higher stakes and you can't just like willy nilly try out like strats and then try again like there's a lot more stakes attached to each battle i feel like it's a little bit more interesting also usually if your full team of pokemon wipes on on a if you're doing a hard nails like you're probably you've probably lost anyway so you'd probably reset anyway if you're like three more months in the box who cares i i think one thing to note here and salty told me this when i talked to him like if you play nuzlocke's at a high level often sacrificing your pokemon is the correct move because it resets tempo in your favor if you like playing on set mode right you can bring a new pokemon back in for free without it getting attacked it's way better then it'll often get you out of really sticky situations basically right but in this playthrough i think they're focused on preserving every single every single member and not ever sacrificing anything so we'll take that into account as we react to it hell yeah my dick hurts [Laughter] dude they made like a whole pokemon episode title sequence this is so high effort the production value was actually insane the reason i was really looking forward to reviewing this because i actually listen okay it's actually kind of hard to make me laugh i have a pretty specific sense of humor but um selfie decay dance videos very often tickle it when i talk to him he described it as 2am discord humor and i think that describes it perfectly okay starter selection yeah worthless not gonna lie yep true hotbip maybe maybe something there okay yeah he's crossing fingers really good really good really good last one all right okay these three stars are all awful personally i would go with hop ip here because at least jump left later is probably good if if it's if it's no level if it's level up moves at center level it moves it then abra isn't even going to have a move to use so you kind of are forced to pick exactly hotpip which might also have splash i don't know if any of these guys have attacking moves i think you might have to pick eagley buff because it has pound i really don't know okay no all right this also doesn't have any attacking moves nice um i i guess we're gonna struggle in this first fight huh yeah abra definitely goes into struggle first 100 so yeah uh eagley both loses this oh yeah yeah okay actually i was super wrong right because you buff yourself up and you charm this and then the struggle deals less damage that you does to yourself because in gen 5 struggle always deals like 25 of your health or whatever here we go crossing fingers okay that's pretty good so yeah ghost types are actually pretty interesting um in nuzlax they provide a lot of immunities particularly the normal fighting type and fighting type moves which are super super super widespread in these randomizers because everything learns like normal type moves um and they're like normal level move sets so ghost types are actually really really good in randomizers this is a fantastic encounter yeah all right here we go what is it [Music] um so love honey from a game play sorry i have to just shift around real quick there's um from a gameplay perspective um very good very good pokemon lopanim great it's normal type uh pretty fast it's actually very threatening early on here because it might carry frustration um can give it a return later on obviously um and uh sorry as i said i mean normal types are like usually pretty fine only having one weakness is really nice and randomizers because you don't have to worry about like encountering like a random four times weakness um and um god i want a lot of pennies that's so terrible okay he's not getting very lucky with these encounters so far burmese terrible the lamp is still pretty good [Music] that's actually terrible in randomizers everything has its level of learn set right and you might know that um pokemon that evolve via stone evolutions are usually balanced in the way where the pre-evolution like vulpix in this case learns a lot of good moves before it evolves but after it evolves it doesn't learn any good moves anymore so usually stone evolution they have like one good move at like level 50 or something and that's kind of it which is why specifically in a randomizer an encounter like this like a nine tails or like a ludicolo or like any any stone evolution is pretty bad actually usually it depends on the starting learn set some of them can be okay or in liking when you have tms it can be fine too but at this stage i mean this is still a stat ball right but if it doesn't have the moves to support it's just not as good if it wasn't clear by now the friend lock is recorded live on twitch and the chat would not shut up about the burme that i refused to take back at the dream yard apparently according to a lot of people gift pokemon do not count as a new encounter in a given route for a nuzlocke meaning that alongside catching that's cringe though like that's we recognize that that's cringe right here's my take on this okay as a professional as well here's why i think that's cringe sometimes it's kind of hard to define what a gift encounter is or not it's but mainly it's just a weird exception because you can actually rule nuzlocke encounters incredibly consistency because people always will come and ask me young what is this an encounter what do i how do i handle this encounter and there's one really easy way to handle every encounter ruling ever in any nuzlocke ever if you go into your pokemon you go into the stat screen and you look at the received at or caught at screen right and you say what route it says or what area says it says route 1 it says in little root town whatever it says right that is where you got it that's where you got that encounter if that was your first encounter in that area then it is legitimate and if not it's not you can just never have two pokemon with the same thing in their stat screen in that that answers every single encounter question you will ever have about nuzlockes with eggs to keep that consistently if they had you can just hatch them on a route where you haven't had an encounter yet and that's your encounter for that route however i know for a fact that none of my friends would have wanted to control but seriously i could use the extra cannon fodder i guess so i made a compromise if twitch chat really wanted burme so bad then they can be burped the way it works is very simple the moves that it uses during battles are determined by whatever moves i see getting spammed the most on live twitch chat okay some are just saying kill you guys know that's not a move right yeah that's not a move guys i see people saying run you understand this is charon right a trainer battle yeah twitch chat is great at this yeah it's oh it's actually going to die here okay i was going to use potions it's fine it's fine okay definitely worth noting here for this run if you're playing your nuzlockes with items always make sure number one step always make sure you always have healing items this is the number one thing you always want to do because healing items are god damn broken and once you actually start using them effectively in your nuzlockes and once you actually like start to realize how good they are you will very very quickly realize why so many people play without items because they're so so op okay all right i'll take this it's not bad flower baby yo cherum uh sham's pretty terrible now that's a good ass encounter electric types are pretty good very fast does a good amount of damage good ability that's a primo encounter boys hell yeah we'll be your friend chad sorry youtube comments what do you think skunktank a good encounter or a bad encounter write your answers down below right now make sure to show your work to see if you didn't just guess skunk tank is a pretty good encounter poison dark is actually a fantastic typing it's only got one weakness not a very common weakness at all um pretty good stats pretty good move pool dark types are insane just because of typing like the stats or whatever but just the typing makes this a really really good encounter absolutely god-awful encounter it's so bad [Music] oh my god it's got a bunch of sand [Laughter] this is such a good this is such a great character but it's okay i'm sorry i dropped my sauerkraut oh come on you know what that's not bad at all whimsicott's a pretty good pokemon uh better than cherum for sure i would just swap it out right away okay that's really good um if you evolve this god it's so fast it does so much damage this is a really really good encounter a deliberate what that's so bad oh dude these encounters are so terrible hey fun fact about delibird by the way did you know that delhi bird's bag is actually part of its body it's pretty crazy right it's where he stores his pee and his [ __ ] flare is a sassy piss goblin you spent 50 dollars to say that okay guys 50 dollars means that it's so basic yeah i'm going to spark yeah i bet you will you will piss goblins okay chat let's make a bet when do you think the first pokemon is actually gonna die because they're kind of just rolling through right now probably on clay right i don't think i think they really have a lot for clay there's no water type so far and the grass types are really mid i'm gonna say nothing's gonna die until clay keep you in all right actually do we see a death here swagger confusion maybe oh my god another child it's like a little egg does anyone remember the shirley temperature yep yep that's dead that's dead [Music] that's dead i mean they're fine here a lot of honey just kills this it also got paralyzed um on the static which is nice but yeah um pretty pretty obvious thing there um if you're confused especially by swagger you have to be aware of that oh kill it slay it girl they just keep using volt switch they don't need otherwise yeah i guess um la penny will do pretty well on this fight you also have scum tank it's probably fine you got high special defense nine tails for this too should be okay you have dig on this that's actually pretty good uh yeah she looks like a bee big [ __ ] big [ __ ] big crit does have the rocky helmet equipped though nice full restore usage good good love to see it love to see it but that just puts you back in a crit range that's not going to achieve anything here if anything happens i love y'all okay nice dodge the crit dodge the crit nice nice question was was there a better play there i could see us the thing is this probably 38k is everything on the team so i guess using a floater store probably achieves the same thing as just staying in what you could do is if you're playing with rocky helmet here just spam potions and let him kill itself on rocky helmet very easy rocky album is actually a really broken item especially if you're playing with healing arms that's actually an insane combo you base basically as long as you have infinite healing items you can kill any pokemon that's using contact moves on you right and if it doesn't have a crit kill on you [Music] well it's it's a cloud i'll take it uh i mean like this [ __ ] sucks too dude all these encounters are so bad they're getting [ __ ] clowned on by the game it is a dragon type it does have a lot of resistances i will say it just doesn't learn any [ __ ] good moves it does like no damage that's the problem thank you with like a phenomenal typing like this is actually so good but it gets no [ __ ] good moves smells like millennials over here reminds me the time i went to coachella whoa what are you doing here old man i'm here to see music from 1975. also i have to take a sh no that's a band bro the 1975. uh you know what that makes more sense i still have to take a sh what's your name stranger names pete peterson uh you know pete pays way too much alimony looking normal whoa that's pretty good that's finally something fast that does a lot of damage fighting types are like decent okay then now we're we're starting to actually heat up we're starting to heat up all right all right magna zone steel type best type in the game for nuzlocke still pretty pretty [ __ ] good pretty good keep this out of the way of earthquakes and you're you got a pretty [ __ ] good pokemon use your magna zone it's really good box that [ __ ] jigglypuff already jesus christ jinx is all right it's not great what's your name again i'm coach cosmic how you doing oh my god i am sauerkraut do you think that this works i can't i do love sauerkraut oh coach i want him to stay on the that's what all my friends stay on the team for sure pretty good yeah honestly no cap like it's it's going pretty well um having only one death up to this point and the randomizer without having caught like a legendary or something pretty great this fight is usually pretty difficult why are we going in with five mons there's three grass types which are all good and a flying type to avoid a ground type moves also good law punting in general just good i think um excadrill will tear through these guys really easily uh only five to avoid losing too many mods when they wipe because they continue after i guess that kind of makes sense right if you don't have a lot of pokemon grinded up you just bring the ones that are not grinded up and if you those then all wipe then you have another shot to grind up a whole new team and try again i guess that kind of makes sense though it's stacking up its attacks but super high leveled warmer damn just energy ball here yeah that's what i like to see i think this kills oh it doesn't the level difference really coming in strong there rockslide punch also very scary there this could be really bad oh this is real yeah i don't really know how you get out of this there's no pivot here you basically i guess you can heal until rockslide miss i think that's the only thing you can do please god please oh no yeah also if you alternate protect and healing there you can actually pp stall it as well that would be another way to get around this whatever did you teach rock smash or something to this jump kick okay you have to hit this if you miss this you wipe okay nice yeah that kills no it doesn't what oh my god oh my god you're slower now i don't know if he heals here or not i don't think so i think he just goes for the kill i think you wipe here even if he goes even if he heals you wipe here yeah you know i i don't see them getting out of this alive whatsoever another huge reason actually to bring six pokemon here if you're playing with items just switching to a different pokemon healing up the pokemon that's actually doing damage in the back and then bringing it back out is insanely insanely big um that's definitely something to consider here right because this is currently the most damage you can do against this extra drill so you can switch into something else right um have him take a hit then heal up the law honey as you sacrifice it and you bring the law opponent back in and you do some more damage oh please please please please is he out of bulldoze he's dead right yeah yeah okay gabby you should be able to tank one rockslide flinch is really scary though let's do a magical leaf i don't know if he'll heal again but we could try a magical leaf he shouldn't heal again it's always just two healing items yeah you're just dead crit didn't matter there i i so so with with the chair i'm actually being faster like far-fetched out of all the team members here has the least value what you definitely could have done is um if you know that a bulldoze is coming right which you might not know because the ai is weird in this game if you're not playing a romhack you can switch the farfetch into a bulldoze for free right heal up the cherum also heal the confusion by that chance right and then actually i think you should be able to bring cherun back in because exercise could intuit ko it right so they wipe right yeah oh god prankster elite seed it should have been me if you have protect on sauerkraut now you would actually win i think that we may be yours i'll splash okay sauerkraut i'm i'm crossing my fingers here okay no shot you're faster like you just no rock slide though i guess you win that's insane and with the power of lark's bleach scene that's actually kind of crazy i would think that even that level of ai goes for a rock slide kill if he sees it was he out of peepee the the prankster leech seed before dying was a really good move uh oh yeah there's also another pokemon i was gonna say that earlier like you just lose right yeah you're just dead i did love sauerkraut a lot that's really sad okay let's do some theater crafting here right there's a pretty good team you can bring here i doubt nine tails has access to a fire move right now so maybe not that i don't know if you can evolve darumaka yet hitmonlee may be able to one shot if it gets high jump kick it may be able to one shot the exit drill so you could probably send it out during switch mode the plan now catch one more pokemon on the route to the top left if we can and hope to play that it's a water type you know they say in capitalism there's winners and losers pete can you please [Laughter] hi there stranger hello [Music] over here this is not going to help them defeat clay so as you can see our team is a little bit smaller uh and that is because uh well it's really bad these are the only four potentially useful people take six pokemon uh you know that's a great idea let's take a look at our options shall we let's take a look at the options for pokemon that i can pick shall we because there's just so many great options so we got uh bug rock weak to ground uh ghost fire weak to ground oh that's a bug rocket above normal not weak to ground buddies bug rock is not weak to ground it's weak to rock though okay but like why not just bring one anyway so you have it as death fodder so you can at least heal someone else up while they're being killed a lot of people have been pointing out hey hannah is weak to like everything in this gym and you'd be right we're using hannah as a human shield or i guess a pokemon shield well yeah so why not bring more pokemon shields right oh it's also sturdy on dwell yeah you 100 bring that that is like the best sack fodder pokemon you could possibly bring because it's always going to tank a hit and then you can heal oh yes holy [ __ ] there we go good choice there good choice by the way you should just kill this right what grass smooth do you have giga drain with the tumors or the penises okay what do you want energy ball even better nice i'll do what i uh what i say when i'm conceiving uh give him the energy balls okay all right this is it you're gonna do it mikey here's a question derek are you guys looking up because i'm gonna be flying into this fool i think brick brick might have killed anyway so maybe then i should take the risk but that's definitely alphas oh my god that's a pretty that's actually a decent encounter i think no idea the problem with cling clang it's a good pokemon and it's a steel type it's good defensively too pretty good with healing items problem is like it gets like no coverage it gets like a steel move and that's it do not use memento i'm begging you you should probably get rid of that as soon as possible i know i'm i don't know why do you is there any tms that you can learn quick fun fact memento is actually a really good move in nuzlux um for like if there's a specific battle that you might be struggling with a really easy way to cheese sometimes is you can lead with a memento pokemon you memento to drop the other pokemon stats and then you bring in something that wants to set up like dragon dances or something and you can just set up for free because the ai will never switch if their stats are lowered and just like dropping with their attack and special attack to minus two minus two and getting a free switch in on another one of your pokemon right without having to take a hit is really really really big you just set up and sweep them it's actually like pretty good yup what no you're dead you're dead gotta be aware of those pursuits man if you're fighting a dark type gotta be that they requires a lot of foresight if you don't know that a trainer has a dark type and they just come out on your ghost type you're just sometimes not much you can do about it okay here we go oh okay it is you know what this is actually decent uh water ground types are really good and they need both of those on their team right now oh that's terrible that is so terrible oh this is it's like it's like in season one he hadn't illumized that he that he just brought into the elite four just to like suicide into the elite four that was a really good bit oh we're gonna beat him up good we're gonna beat him up good let me do it let me do it this one and i got beef all right gerber go for it you have beef with everything yeah i haven't seen this much conflict since the time i was an extra on lawn order svu what does that even mean oh i stood behind iced tea here we go please be something good come on that is pretty terrible spaghetti hello hello i am so i haven't used a tang growth in a really long time it's okay um it's pretty bulky you can't you usually don't get regenerator if you get a regenerator and like a rom hangout that's pretty insane why were we worried about this jim i don't yeah this gym is easy or this makes no sense he has no options flash kills slash kills there it is very nice okay so hit a little snag at this point we found ourselves fighting against a conkleder normally this would be a fairly easy matchup but we soon discovered that its entire move set was super effective against our entire party oh wait so what is what is this guy's move so that he has a oh i guess like you brought like four months that are weak to rock okay let's talk about team composition a little bit real quick why is there a deli bird on this team team composition um in in nuzlocke's team building um there's a lot to consider but i think just seeing when you have like four weaknesses to something and no resistances to something that's like a very basic thing that you can like very check for like pretty quickly and like should be able to to figure or like to to remedy pretty quickly this is the type of situation um where like yeah of course there's an optimal way to play it out and you could probably do pretty well but um it essentially in the end it just comes down to like being you have to be a little bit more prepared when you come into fights like this especially victory road like that's the one place where like vanilla games people are going to have like pretty good coverage and stuff like that so you probably want to before you enter victory or just check like your team composition real quick hey you're probably dead to that right pretty sure you're dead [Music] damn dude look at that oh well oh this is worse than the time i interrogated alex mace is is is that famous actor al pacino oh my god wow that's right it's famous actor al pacino also adam sandler is here too if you want me to give you further context or explain why this is happening i won't get over it what space what's my name that's right kid i'm al pacino what the [ __ ] after i became a champion oh that's a lot of damage oh that's that's spicy this is pretty dangerous if someone dies here it still counts these are just okay quick comment on double battles generally in double battles i almost never see myself attacking one pokemon each if i don't have a kill like if if if neither of them kill because like he didn't really advance the game state here at all he didn't really give himself a kill for next year unless he double targets i guess right generally focusing down one pokemon is it's usually good um just focusing in on one pokemon is usually better getting getting a kill right means that you're only taking one attack right so getting a kill on double bows is like really good yeah you see right here this is a really good example if he had doubled attack doubled into the neato king here the nidoking would not like i guess he's slower anyway so it doesn't really matter here um it actually sets up a kill for next turn this is fine too but in principle i think you guys know what i'm talking about right you're gonna try earthquake if colin's okay with that i mean it's up to you okay yeah i guess i'll take the earthquake hit actually a decent play here i would say well the thing is potentially seismitoad is taking three hits this turn that's a little spooky i probably wouldn't earthquake here i think yeah seismitoad there's a pretty good chance it dies here oh yeah this is energy ball okay you were just dead no matter what i'm gonna need to rethink my strategy for the elite four because colin was going to be on that team okay what are you gonna do i would probably get the cricket tune the [ __ ] out of there because it's about to take a flying move from honcho you are slower than the haunted crow so wait what happened capitalism has to win cricket tune kind of popping off right now okay it's slower than everyone on the field i'm not sure how that happened but you're dead right yep i haven't seen this much death since i served in the cold war in the cold war well-played [Laughter] with that admittedly painful event out of the way we began planning for the elite four this is our final destination once we get serious and really go for it there is no going back this would be the strongest gauntlet of trainers we have ever faced so of course when coach koz figured out that was going to be the case she wanted to go for it alone i guess yeah no okay fair i can see it i can see it go for it i think luxury could handle like two trainers here on ironically like i think you can do caitlyn and chantal okay so that's not good oh my god that's a lot of yeah okay never mind luxury just [ __ ] gets gets absolutely owned here never mind i didn't say anything luxor gets toasted here oh my god it has no chance in this elite four i think you're just dead right after being minus two focus [Music] unlucky okay let's do a quick team building exercise i guess steel types are really insane in this elite four i would bring both of them um and then you're super weak to marshall so let's find a something that can deal with the fighting types would probably want to bring altaria for that uh that's kind of it for options i would just bring probably darmanitan for damage and then crustal i guess is good you definitely want to bring skuntank 100 for um for caitlyn and for sean tall and then bring hitmonlee for grimsley you just kind of get super cla so i would yeah so altaria hitmont uh hitmonlee skuntank the two steel types and then you need something to deal with marshall probably tango roth teach it like maybe toxic and get some healing items or some [ __ ] i don't really know that seems like the best possible team to me here uh that's pretty close to what they built actually yeah only darmanitan over magnazone um i was actually pretty close uh it's arguable both are good i think magnus zone is definitely better slow volt switch is insane it's so good um and i think playing clan can learn it too so having two like two slow volt switchers is kind of incredible thank you all right wait what about our health items oh [ __ ] forgot to buy potions oh my god i salty no dude this was free with healing items just see how many potions we have on us it's gonna be like five i know i didn't use any of them while grinding okay okay no he's fine he's fine he's fine okay he's fine we're fine he's fine he's fine that is actually so many yeah he's super fun if fate it treats us right steel types with slow volt switch well i would bring the team that they had in the elite four except i would bring magnazone instead of the dead hitmonlee and that would be it get jay in here hey jay
