bad group today I'm going to show you a primitive fishing catch and cook now we're currently in the Davis Mountains of West Texas it's mid-november and even though it's not very cold outside as you can see the days are quite a bit shorter and I've got several more miles to make up this trail I'm gonna show you my favorite on my secret fishing spot I think you're gonna like it I've got some porgy to do I'll show you parts and pieces of how to make the line how to make the hook bait and hopefully by the end of the day we get some fish out of the deal so guys quite a bit do miles to go let's get started it's got [Music] all right so even though our main targets gonna be a fish on up trail there's a few little treats that we could pick along the way this right here it's evergreen sumac the berries are just absolutely ready right now real tart not bad these bushes are after we cover them grab your hand pulls keep on going [Music] so you might be able to tell this area has suffered a flash flood here in recent months it's pretty ripped up down here let's see if I can't get a pull off this torture Willow will be off to next Park [Music] you work [Music] [Music] oh this is a Texas padrone commonly known as a naked Indian tree these are pretty hard to miss what a lot of people don't realize are that they have edible fruits so really awesome kind of chalky this year but like a dried raspberries really good cover with them really hard to pass up beautiful tree though [Music] beautiful yeah we have several options out here so tolls agave you climb up about a thousand foot at the mountains about basket grass this is Spanish dagger yucca we're gonna make our line out of the day you take a couple of these and call three we have a work on to find hooks bait and get to our fish and roll but Suns caught up and if I'm right I think I can hear it our fishing hole gets up here and 100 yards talking like this here we are welcome to the knotch we still got to make her line she'd be able to find hooks up here and hopefully as the shadows pull back and show you this place catch some supper to get on top you got to go up now we're gonna make our hook this right here is a fishhook cactus and it's called bet a lot of these little spines down here look like fish hooks this is going to be our tackle box I'm just gonna top this cactus I'm gonna take it with me the parts that I need and then it'll continue to grow really awesome cactus though [Music] go again Bobby called fishhook she already got me she works where I'm going to go ahead and make my fishing line get everything set up here a pesto I want to show you the waterfall hopefully you can hear that the background it's a really neat place in this place right here [Music] it is stunning now back behind the waterfall all time can really slick awesome water slides fallen solid rock back below really really deep water pulling fish out your line ready cuz we good try but go to bed up [Music] all right first these first the time-consuming bit I'm gonna make cordage out of this yup own take spraying it out a little bit of twisting and a lot of patience gonna do that not much Vanessa first I'll take the pointy end woke up as you look closely draw individual strands and fibers that thinner the better take these start split them down all the way to the end so we get the longest longest strands possible this can take quite a bit of time we've got the option do this around the campfire at night or be prepared and bring quarters with you break it down a little bit more strand it out a bit more with my a whip [Music] depending on the size of cordage and how pretty you want to make it you can continue on with processing or gonna skip ahead it skipping ahead we want to do is start taking individual strands off and then firing them down smaller and smaller until we have something that we can use as fishing line as it's gonna be braided three or four pieces at a time to itself which means that your single filaments are going to be best because once they braid together they're gonna be a little thicker thinner it's better take the time better quality fishing line in her fish in line typically catches a better fish [Music] [Music] [Music] let's get the head pour down a bunch of these or stack them up [Music] I started process extent of division line it's one of the reasons I like to make take the largest fishing pole I can get my hands on got a coal pile over here the stuff that I was really able to make anything out of this is our base material and about to weave together so let's go ahead and make it down and dirty real quick petition line where the Sun tells us start out with a couple of thin lines [Music] with the both lines together your ad in the middle just a little bit hold it over set off start spinning HD sets to the inside just fun that they use funders pointing finger here on the left hand would piss over that a few more times yummy kind of gets better ribbon or this and that makes this bar down here why don't whist now the one that's closest to me I'll twist flip over twist flip over twist and just keep on doing that assisting in more twists is better than dress twists and at all times some kind of keeping some tension here with my fingers so I'm actually pulling back on the rope and still after a few hundred hours you can make some really really pretty rope some real fine line and actually progress you can get it thinner or if you want to make some really thick half inch to one inch rope out of this this is how rope is made the twist flip flip flip which ran on autopilot said you've got something kind of looks like that so typically I'll make something smaller than quarter inch by 8 inch bank line but for fishing it's probably going after groove you look down here in these mountains this worked really well that's your B the next step to this as I continue on inevitably you're going to start running out of line you probably notice that keep going and it begins to thin and I'll do is find another small strand yeah take this strand right here in the middle seat it right there I thought my thumb run wing out in each direction I'm gonna incorporate it into the two flipping twist flipping twist for a moment you might make your line a little thicker after a while depending on how picky you want to be you get some really thin strands to add in there and then pick it up and then bend down if you're doing larger strands or making larger rope here you can also take if one of these sides gets a little thicker than the other you can also take one of the sides flip it over and start twisting like that to make sure that you stay constant in your braid all kinds of little tricks we're making a very stout very robust twisted front of the cordage shoes awesome to run out mom you slept someone you can talk [Music] line two this line right here tied around the hook please smoke a schmuck should work well now that's fine and for a main point people want to do is cut a bit of a chunk out of this cactus it looks out if you have a tolerance for so pick your pleasure chipper look you want I'll break that off and we'll be securing it a bowl they we're after right here a bit of a gambit RJ corns can make a lure out of them hopefully what's inside will be a worm much better baby [Music] she would have found this far it's not much it's like the pigs are probably probably coming through here and grab them now in addition to these acorns which I could make a meal out of I'm not lucky takes a little bit of processing we also found two things one was this small walnut and this is a Texas walnut they're very very small but this one's half the size it ought to be it should be much larger so not a good year for him and a snail shell and it kind of looks like a ram's horn so that can be a lure it can also be used as a bobber pretty cool little finds we'll take these over to do with them hopefully we'll find some worms and we'll get to fishing whose heart rate used to be intact wanted wine let's try some more there you go that number two we've got a worm let's try this meat out and take a look at our bait there you go that is a prime piece of bluegill bait plenty good size for the dubbing hopefully that means a fish all right he's on [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all kinds little creatures if I can go ahead and grab them you can rev it up mr. frog all right there you go Laurel Canyon broad didn't want to be around me if I didn't have good bait and I was really surviving you know I'd be a good option [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] some of you probably made that out this next part is gonna take some explaining I just lowered my line my hook and my bait back behind that large folder I did get my fish but in the kidding I got him stuck it's at this point that kind of pulled a bear grylls now in the past my younger years looking 15-20 years ago I had successfully climbed down off this very same waterfall and back up it many times so and that was the plan I hadn't had much success throughout the rest that hour it's usually a really good fishing hole my guess is that the flash floods a month before and severely impacted those fish populations first fish only fish wasn't gonna let him go I wish I could show you the detail back here it was extremely jagged it's very slippery there's a lot of room going down to the water I was able to successfully reach down and get that fish unstuck good save there as I pull him up got a few things I got to figure out toss the fish back up and over the boulder he has since expired he shouldn't go anywhere the same thing with a dog I make sure he's not gonna follow me down I did a little bit of added in here I made my attempt to climb back up this waterfall a failed attempt not spectacular that you'll notice I'm a little wetter now this is uh you know the last plan of God unfortunately advisory here what you just saw make sure before you attempt this you know make better life choices initially but if you're gonna go in with boots knife and all the gear ensure that you can blow and still swim I do this quite often more often than I'd like to admit but they're dead guys and some [Music] [Music] very possibly black version I don't know that I mentioned in November right now and that is three water what is brick they believe so later play this can't be good don't think you get one fish that's your fish and we're constantly late the fire and not get hypothermia [Music] look definitely really good fish Cardon one now normally I go ahead and use some of these small rock pools back here that's kind of live wells I put several fish in and then whatever I was ready to cook them I just batch them scale them hook them up but this one I've already just backed over there wishing scale it down here therefore our firewood is collect bunch start fire and get going [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right put a few years since I've used this it's like somebody's been here it's already been built good bunch of firewood and utilize this [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so called in on that this isn't any kind of official fire buddy it's just a lazy man's fire out here in West Texas we can get away with really not doing too much when temp the fire lays because of how dry our firewood is and if you can't get away with nothing and might as well not put the extra effort will burn the extra energy come up looks like you burned down a fairly Drive would most of stuff was gathered up from flash but there's not much to it we can put our fish straight on the coals cook them up quick there's too much more like in the same side and we'll have fresh fish my fish is just about done and for those of you that have watched this channel before you seem to cook any bluegill before a couple of other sunfish variants easy fish we scale them sometimes we put stuff inside of them whitefish pan fish a really good fish to enjoy he doesn't take long to cook them and they've got our taste testers right here okay so because I genuinely hope you learn something from this video or at least enjoyed my antics hindsight is twenty-twenty for sure you're gonna come out here and practice these things as always please make sure that you're being ethical legal you have all the permits and that you fish and hunt and trap responsibly make sure there's more out there for everybody else it's a sampling they keep their campfires make sure you put them out and if you camping here is all those good things those are you wondering if where we're at right now this is actually a scout ranch out in West Texas this is the Buffalo trail Scout Ranch for those of you wondering where I've learned my skills over the years places like this this place specifically if you like to know more check out the description we've got some link down there below this video as always guys please like subscribe comment that's what you think about it we'll have more to come custom intros we definitely have more to come sorry for the quick wrap-up but I've got four miles to hit tonight and as I mentioned earlier it's mid-november I'm still half wet got a camp fire to put out smile to be gone oh gosh take care it is always until next time [Music] [Music]
